It was a dark and dreary night in Ponyville...
No, no, that's not how I want to start. It's so...cliché, but it is dark and rainy out. Hello there, my name is Artisan Scribe. I'm a writer, a singer, an artist, and currently out of inspiration. I have a home in the cozy little town of Ponyville, seemingly the place where all my ideas come from. It seems like every other day one crisis or another happens in this little town. Whether it be an attack from a grumpy Ursa Minor, or Ponyville becoming the temporary chaos capital of the world. Well, it's nice to see the town quiet again. Who knows, maybe tomorrow a giant tatzlwurm will try to eat everypony alive. Ever since Princess Twilight got her new castle, things have been....calm, and not much has really happened here. So, I'm in a block. A really big block.
I sat at my candlelit desk and tossed yet another crumpled piece of paper aside with my magic. It had been about two weeks into my inspiration block, and I seriously needed a kickstart. I don't mean the inspiration that that mare Rarity had a few months ago. My muse had left me and I was in a slump. I figured that some professional advice would help. I scheduled an appointment and spoke with Dr. Wolf (my personal hero) yesterday, and his advice actually helped quite a bit. I'm due for another visit to his office next week. So after that, I waited. I waited, and waited, and waited some more. Nothing. I was starting to wonder if my muse would ever come back to me.
I groaned as I crumpled up another piece of paper and tossed it over my shoulder. I sighed and laid my head in my arms. The pile of crumpled paper on the floor was becoming increasingly large. I turned my head to the window and saw that it wasn't raining too hard. Maybe a walk would help me gather my thoughts. I grabbed my umbrella from the holder by the front door and headed out.
I always liked the rain; especially at night. It was so peaceful to listen to; so calming. Everypony was most likely asleep or getting ready for bed, so the town was quiet. I sighed with content as I trotted along the dirt road. I looked up at the sky. Princess Luna's bright moon still shone brightly through the clouds. Even through the cloudy sky, Luna's night was still as beautiful as I remembered it. I was so captivated in the sky that I hadn't paid attention to where I was walking.
I came to a halt at the edge of the Everfree forest. I laughed to myself. How did I manage to get here all the way from Ponyville? I sighed sadly as I felt the rain begin to pick up. I still hadn't gotten an idea for anything. As I turned to leave, I suddenly heard a small noise behind me.
"Hello?" I called out.
No one answered me, so I shrugged it off as one of the mysterious creatures of the Everfree and began my trek back home. Suddenly, I heard the noise again. It sounded like a soft squeak, or a whimper. I looked around for anything that could be making the noise. A small animal perhaps?
"Hello?" I called out again. "I-is anypony there?"
I illuminated my horn and looked around, but before I could take one step forward, I heard the noise again. I looked down at my raised right hoof and saw a tiny creature huddled up in a ball. The creature had a pony's body. Funny, I don't remember ponies being that small. Not even foals. I kneeled down to the tiny pony and I could see that it was shivering quite badly. From its body structure, I figured that it was female. She had a violet mane and a sopping wet pink coat. I couldn't leave the poor thing out here in this weather. I quickly nestled the shivering pony into my jacket pocket and made a beeline for my house.
I galloped as fast as I could through the pouring rain; almost slipping a few times. I finally made it home and I burst through the front door, being extra careful as to not hurt the tiny pony. I quickly laid her next to the candle on my desk and lit it with a match. I then dried off the little mare with a hankie and covered her with another as a makeshift blanket. I sat by the pony and watched her shivering slowly begin to subside. All I could hear from her was the soft chattering of her little teeth and the few whimpers that passed her lips. I could see something moving underneath the blanket -- er, hankie. Wings? Was it a tiny pegasus? I carefully lifted the hankie blanket (let's just go with that) and I did see wings, but they were transparent.
Then I remembered. There was a migration of breezies not too long ago. Fluttershy saved a group of them that got separated from the others and helped them get back home. I looked at the tiny pony's head and there were indeed two antennae protruding from there. I couldn't believe this. I had a real life breezie in my house. All of a sudden, I felt bad for the poor thing. She had been left behind by accident. I didn't know much of anything about breezies (except for the fact that they're so darn cute!), so I didn't know how long it would be before the portal to their homeworld opened again. But one question remained on my mind. What was this little breezie doing all alone at the edge of the Everfree forest on a night like this?
Suddenly, the little breezie began to stir. She looked up at me and opened her eyes. Her eyes were not breezie eyes if ever saw them. Sure, she had the typical breezie eyelashes, but her eyes were almost...insect like. They were a bright green and I couldn't stop staring. She looked at me; I looked at her. Neither of us said a word.
"Uh...hi...?" I croaked, breaking the silence.
The little breezie (I think...) shrunk away from me.
"Don't worry, I won't hurt you." I assured her.
She inched closer to me, her eyes never leaving mine. She mumbled something quietly in a seemingly foreign language, and made a soft...cooing buzz noise. Almost sounding like a chirp.
"I-I'm sorry," I whispered. "I don't speak...breezie..?"
I spoke with uncertainty, and a bit of confusion.
"Can you speak my language?" I asked quietly.
"I can." the little breezie spoke with her traditional breezie accent.
I was relieved. Had she not been able to speak the pony language, I would've never been able to get her what she needed.
"Hey, you're a breezie right?" I asked.
The little pony shook her head.
"No?" I looked at her with confusion. " If you're not a breezie, then, what are you?"
"I am a breeziesprite." she replied. "Half breezie, half parasprite."
My eyes went wide. She was a breezie, but she was also a parasprite? A hybrid? I remembered the time that the parasprites infested Ponyville and ate everything; I mean everything in sight. I was slightly scared. Was this little...breeziesprite going to eat me out of house and home? Was there going to be another infestation? Should I feed her? The questions raced through my head, before the soft voice of the breeziesprite snapped me out of my thoughts.
"Are you okay miss?" she asked.
"Oh, yes. I'm fine." I replied, smiling nervously. "Do you happen to have a name, or a home?"
The breeziesprite shook her head sadly. The poor thing! She was homeless and she didn't even have a name. I saw a tiny tear roll down her cheek and that made my heart sink. I couldn't abandon her, I just couldn't. I felt a tear run down my cheek as well. I suddenly felt a soft touch on my cheek. I looked up and saw the little breeziesprite wiping the tear away from my eye . I smiled at her and she smiled at me. I had to admit, she was really cute. I looked at her wings, and they were, in fact parasprite wings. I held out my hoof to her and she sat on it.
"How would you like to stay with me tonight?" I asked her with a smile.
"Menkyulen! Thank you so much!" she replied happily.
"Now, how about I get us something to eat. I'm a little hungry myself." I said as I set her on the desk. "You stay here; I'll be right back."
I trotted off to the kitchen to prepare a snack for the both of us. I came back levitating a plate of cookies and a carton of grape juice in my violet aura. I sat the plate down and sat at my desk. The little breeziesprite was hovering over a piece of paper and I watched as she dipped her little hooves in the inkwell and twiddled them over the paper. I couldn't help but to giggle a bit. It was so cute. The breeziesprite turned to me with a smile.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
"It is a gift to say thank you." the breeziesprite replied.
I looked at the paper the breeziesprite was doodling on. It was a picture of a heart and two stick pony figures inside it. One of them had a line on its forehead, presumably a unicorn. The other pony was quite small and had wings and antennae on its head. I chuckled sweetly. This picture was really adorable.
"This is so cute." I said, and as I looked at the picture closer an idea came to my head. "I think I have an idea for a name for you. How does Scribble sound?"
"Scribble?" the little breeziesprite asked. "I like that."
"Well Scribble, I think we're gonna get along great." I said, scratching her head softly.
I levitated a cookie to my mouth and bit into it. Chocolate chip, my favorite. Scribble looked down at the cookie and licked her little lips. Then, out of the blue, she devoured the entire cookie, just like that. My eyes went wide when she went through two more of the large cookies with extreme ease and speed. She was right about being part parasprite. She had the appetite of one that was for sure. I giggled as I gently wiped her tiny crumb covered mouth with another hankie.
After we finished our snack, I went upstairs to my room to get ready for bed and Scribble followed me. She flew into my room after me and I began looking around my room for something I could use as a bed for Scribble. I opened the drawer on my nightstand and found another matchbox. Perfect! I opened the matchbox and poured all the matches out. I then found my old fillyhood dollhouse and found a pillow, blanket and a few small pieces of soft cloth to fit the bottom of the matchbox. I fixed up the matchbox bed for Scribble and she happily climbed into it, snuggling into the blankets.
"This bed is perfect!" she said, with an adorable yawn. "Thank you so much miss..."
"I'm Artisan, Artisan Scribe." I replied, snuggling under my covers.
"Thank you Artisan, and goodnight."
With that, she fell fast asleep.
"Goodnight Scribble." I whispered and turned over in my bed, closing my eyes.
I opened one eye and looked at the picture hanging on the wall that Scribble had drawn for me. I smiled and closed the eye back as I sighed with content. The rain outside had stopped and Luna's moon shone on me through the window. I couldn't wait to see Dr. Wolf again. I knew he'd be surprised to see a breeziesprite, but I knew deep in my heart that this was no ordinary breeziesprite. She was so much more. She was Scribble, my muse.
