//-------------------------------------------------------// Not Exactly Your Mother -by Harmonic Brush- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Derpy's little secret //-------------------------------------------------------// Derpy's little secret Dr.Whooves had some daleks to fight, so as natural, he decided to leave. "Bye honey, bye Amethyst, bye Dinky," Dr.Whooves said as he entered the TARDIS. "Bye dad," Dinky and Amethyst Star said in unison. "Bye dear," Derpy added handing him a muffin. "It's pear.." "YUCK!" He yelled throwing the muffin to the ground. The 3 girls laughed as Dr.Whooves entered the TARDIS. As Amethyst Star was showing Dinky new spells in hopes of her actually learning them, she couldn't help but notice that Dinky wasn't paying attention. "Dinks, what's on your mind?" The purple unicorn asked the younger lavender unicorn. "Oh. I'm just wondering why I'm a unicorn and you're a unicorn," She blatantly answered, "I mean, mom's a pegasus and dad's an earth pony, so why are you and me unicorns?" "Oh. You'll find out soon Dinky." Amethyst Star replied wrapping her hoof around her sister. "What do you mean?" Dinky questioned. "Never mind Dinks, never mind. Now back to learning!" The older unicorn dodged from answering while removing her hoof. "Hey Liza." Dinky said catching up to her friend, Liza Doolots. "Hi. Sorry, gotta go!" She replied, darting away from Dinky. "Where's my bits sis?" Liza asked Amethyst. "Here. Now remember, keep the secret." Amethyst replied giving her the bag of gold coins before taking off. Dinky headed to the rainbow magic friendship castle library alone. After what her sister told her earlier this morning, she needed to just relax. And with Liza just darting away from her, she knew something was up. She decided to visit the princess for a little bit of learning and some answers. As she walked into the library, she was met by Princess Twilight Sparkle. Naturally, she bowed. "Dinky, you know you don't need to do that." Twilight said ushering the filly up and guiding her towards the library. "Sorry Princess." She replied. "Now, this lesson is about genealogy. Genealogy is the study of heritage and family." Twilight said levitating a scroll off of a pile of scrolls. "Um, about that. Twilight, is it possible for the daughter of a pegasus and an earth pony to be a unicorn?" Dinky asked the princess. "Well yes. It's very scarce, but possible. Now, here is a scroll." the alicorn answered putting a scroll in front of the unicorn. "What do I do with it?" The lavender filly asked. "Take it home. Study it." She replied. Dinky, before taking off, snuck a book through her magic grasp. Dinky, while walking back from the library, who was holding a scroll in her telekinesis grasp, was pondering about what the princess had said. Was it really possible that Dinky could have a different mom or dad? Or was it that she and Amethyst were rare ponies? Was it just that? And if so, why did Liza just run off like that without any explanation? She lost her train of thought when she faced her house. As natural, she entered right at the same time that Luna's moon rose brining forth night. "Dinky you're back!" Derpy called out, only to have her daughter run straight past her and into her room, making sure to lock the door. "Good night mom!" Dinky called out through her closed door. Dinky closed the lights, but didn't go to bed. She opened her curtain and when that didn't provide enough light, light gamboge magic let off from her horn brightening up the room. "That should do the trick." She whispered to herself. Dinky heard the sound of hoofs padding across the ground and up the stairs. This, Dinky knew, was her mom. She heard another set of hooves walk passed her room, down the hall and through a door before the sound faded out. This, Dinky also knew, was her sister Amethyst Star. Dinky sat at her desk and opened the scroll. This one was a scroll about Rainbow Dash's family. Rainbow Dash is the daughter of Rainbow Blaze and Firefly. After that she just got bored. She opened the book she took back at the library. This was a book about Daring Do, the latest book. It was entitled 'Daring Do and the Ring of Destiny'. After about 15 minutes of reading, Dinky still couldn't sleep. She still thought 'Is it possible that I have different parents?'. Dinky decided that she would ask her mom Derpy this question the next morning. But when the thought caught up to her, she felt like her courage was breaking down. When the thought of her having different parents filled her mind, she felt bare and alone, almost like nopony would be there for her when she needed it the most. And what if it was true that Dinky had different parents? Would she go to live with them? Would Amethyst come with her, or would she stay with Derpy? Would Dinky live with her real parents? She slowly calmed herself down and let out a long yawn. She shrugged her thoughts off, and fluttered her eyes shut due to exhaustion, resulting in her falling asleep. Dinky found herself walking in the streets of Ponyville while many mares shouted and surrounded her. "I'm her mom!" Yelled Lyra directly into the crowd of mares surrounding Dinky. "No, I'm her mom!" Junebug replied defensively. "I'm her mom!" Daisy yelled into the group of yelling mares. "NO! I AM!" all the mares replied "It's gotta be me! I have a purple coat!" Rainbowshine screeched into the crowd. "NO! IT'S ME!" Every other mare replied. "Dinky, wake up!" Yelled the princess of the night. "Princess Luna?" Dinky questioned. "Wake up!" Princess Luna replied as ripples lifted her away. Dinky shot up breathing heavily from the bad dream she had just dreamt of. After her breaths slowed down, she realized it was morning. After getting out of bed, her hooves trotted across the cold, hardwood floor. She opened her door and walked into the kitchen, met by Amethyst Star and Derpy. Feeling a wave of courage wash over her, Dinky approached her mom. "Mom," Dinky said getting a muffin from her mom. "Dinky?" Derpy replied. "I want to know who my real parents are." Dinky questioned while crying and looking down at the ground. "What do you mean?" The pegasus mare said lowering herself to face the crying unicorn filly. "I mean, I want to know if you are my real mom or if somepony else is my real mom. I need to know!" She cried out. "But-" the cross-eyed mare said before being cut off by the older unicorn. "Mom, it's time you tell her." Amethyst Star said while she got up and galloped away. "You really wanna know?" Derpy questioned facing the unicorn filly. "I wanna know." Dinky answered while wiping her tears off her face. "Ok, sit down." As requested, Dinky sat down on the kitchen chairs. Derpy pulled up a chair and sat beside her. "You..are adopted." the cross-eyed pegasus mare said while letting out a sigh. "What?" The filly replied while tears formed into her eyes. "You are adopted." Derpy repeated. "So who is my real mom?" Dinky asked. "Carrot Top is your mom and Written Script is your dad." She answered. After thinking about it for a little, Dinky decided on something. "Tell me about it." She said completely facing her adopted mother. "What do you wanna know?" She replied. "Tell me all of it, from the very beginning, when you first adopted me." Dinky clarified. "Ok. Here goes nothing.." Derpy trailed off while she flashbacked. In the Ponyville adoption centre, there was multiple babies crying, one of which was a lavendar unicorn who was making the most noise. She was being dragged away from her parents, who were also crying, but certaintly not as much. There was also a light blue unicorn with purple hair who had the same parents "Amethyst, you take care of Dinky and Liza." Written Script said to a filly Amethyst Star. "I will daddy, don't worry." Amethyst Star replied as she tried to be brave, but was clearly holding back tears. "Dinky, Liza, I am so sorry." Carrot Top whispered to the crying foals as she was bawling her eyes. "WAAAAAH!" cried baby Liza Doolots. "Mumma Mumma Mumma!" baby Dinky cried out. Carrot Top walked away, tears rolling down her cheeks as Written Script comforted her, even though he was crying just as much as her, they both knew this was for the better, since they didn't believe they were ready to be parents. "You sure you're ok with this Carrot?" Derpy asked the earth pony mare, who only nodded in response. "MUMMA!" Dinky cried out one last time. Carrot Top simply nodded, backing away. She and Written Script hugged Amethyst Star one last time. As they departured, 3 simple words escaped from Carrot Top's mouth. "I'm so sorry..." She said in a hushed manner, then quickly exiting the adoption centre. "There." Derpy said. "...Tell me more." Dinky asked, in a demanding fashion. "Ok. How about...your 4th birthday party?" the grey pegasus mare asked. Dinky nodded her head. Derpy, seeing the action, flash-backed and retold while facing downwards. "Hey Derpy." Written Script said approaching the mailmare. "Hi Written. Hi Carrot." She replied waving her hoof. "Is it hard managing with 3 kids, a job that takes up most of your time, and a husband that is almost never there?" The orange mare asked. Derpy nodded before speaking. "I try to manage. Liza found another mother, and I haven't told Dinky she was adopted yet. Let her enjoy it while she can. Of course, Liza and Amethyst know, but they are keeping the secret." The 3 ponies turned their attention to the party, specifically the unicorn filly who was turning 4. She was having a blast. She was dancing to the music with her friends and her older sister Amethyst Star. "While anyway, we got her this really nice present. Just don't tell her that if was from us. We got her a decoy present that is smaller and less meaningful." The grey unicorn said getting out the huge gift box with a teddy bear and a small one with a few bits in it. "Thanks." Derpy said taking the presents and putting them near the others. "We're gonna go." Carrot said grabbing Written's hoof. "Where ya goin'?" Derpy asked the couple. "Home." They answered in perfect unison before stepping out. When Derpy finished telling the story, she looked up to face Dinky. The filly was on the verge of tears. Dinky simply wiped her eyes and felt a mixture of braveness and sadness. "Go on." the lavender filly said bravely, obviously trying to hide her sadness. "I don't think that's necessary." replied a new voice that sounded masculine. "I agree with him." a mare added. "Carrot Top! Written Script!" Derpy shouted in shock as well as going to open the door for them. With the click of a lock, the two ponies walked into the house towards the kitchen. After opening the door, they sat near Dinky, who had tears rolling down her cheeks, but not tears of sadness, tears of joy and happiness. Without warning, Dinky flung her arms around her real parents, crying into their fur. "Mom? Dad?" Dinky asked. "It's us." Carrot Top said, also crying. "So, I guess I'm coming to live with you?" Dinky asked, "With Amethyst and Liza?" Written and Carrot nodded. "I'll pick up my things later." Dinky said facing Derpy. Dinky hugged her adopted mother before trotting out the door with Carrot Top and Written Script. Before fully exiting, Derpy said a few more words. "Dinky," She said. "Yes?" Dinky replied. "I'm not exactly your mother." Author's Note Dedicated to Crystal Note, my best friend, and even though it might suck, I still had this idea in my head, and I needed to write it. I got this idea after re-watching a few episodes of MLP. Just something I thought I should write.
