I chewed on some raisins.
I hate raisins. Why do I keep eating them? I guess 'cause I can't really find anything else to eat. Anything I had eaten recently, even apples, just don't taste right. I'm not sure if it's the food or if it's me, Applejack. Our, and by that I mean Sweet Apple Acres, apples trees ain't ever had a whole crop of rotten ones. It has to be me. I just can't think of why.
Maybe I'm comin' down with a virus. One of them viruses that makes everything taste funny. If that's the case, then I better go check in with Granny Smith. She's real good with seeing if your coming down with a fever.
I spent a few minutes deciding whether or not a I should go now or wait. I decide to go now, in case it gets worse. The cold, that is. I drop the bag of raisins carelessly. I head towards the worn down building that is where I live. Proudly. The place has been infested with ants so many times that we just gave up eventually. We consider them part of the family now.
"Granny?" I call. "I think I'm sick. Could you come see?" With a loud crash and a clatter of hooves, she's here in a jiffy.
"Where does it hurt? Do ya need some disinfectant or pain killers? How 'bout both?"
She wrinkles her nose and says slowly, "You ain't been messing around with some stallion, have ya'?"
What... then a wave of comprehension came across me. "No! Granny, I ain't! My taste buds just are off a bit, that's all..."
Granny seems to let me off the hook, since her next question is, "In what way?"
I didn't want to tell her about the apples; it might offend her. They're her crops after all. "They've Just been," is my lousy answer. She then checks my temperature, forces me to taste several unknown foods and describe them, and finally pulls my hair to test my reflexes. Throughout this she records down stuff on a piece of parchment.
She looks at it and after doing what I can only guess is math for several minutes, she mumbers "Yes, yes," and "Just what I thought" vaguely.
"What?" I say promptly.
"A.J., I know shock when I see it." I look confused and say,
"Shock? What in the hay do you mean by shock?"
Granny responses, "Heck if I know." She then laughs and walks away. Now I'm more confused than before. I search the past week for a reason as to why I might be in shock. I can't find anything. Then it hits me-- something did happen in the past week that put me into shock. I had tried to forget about it, and it had worked.
I only remembered just now.
Twilight Sparkle, the princess and fellow citizen of Ponyville, had died. How she was killed was put together my none other than her dear friend, Rainbow Dash.
Poor Rainbow didn't mean to. She was just trying to pull off a prank and get a few laughs. But that backfired. What she had meant to do was fry her hair, but instead of it turning coal gray after a burn it would of turned orange. It was a thick substance and only wore out three days later.
I know how is happened because I was there. Getting a book on painting for my sister. Rainbow was perched atop a window above Twilight. The moment I touched the book to pick it up, Rainbow dropped the orangish grayish jelly ball. But it missed Twilight and hit the ground.
The orange dust started spreadin'... we couldn't breathe. I picked up my sis and ran. I'm guessin' that Rainbow flew the moment her plan backfired, oblivious to how much damage it would cause. The last thing I ever heard Twilight do was cough and gasp for breathe.
The library is still probably full of the stuff, so we haven't been able to retrieve Twins orange stained body. I only had some orange patches on my hair. Twilight was probably unrecognizable.
Rainbow is in hiding. Guards are probably after her. There be been protests all round town, saying we should kill her in revenge for killing our beloved princess. I ain't seen any of my friends since that day... I haven't even left home. I doubted things were ever gonna be the same.
But I accepted that.
Two months later, Rainbow Dash was found by the police and hung in the town square for every pony to see. Pinkie ran off, and was never seen again. Most likely it was that she committed suicide. Rarity wouldn't eat for long periods of time, and eventually stopped entirely. She only lasted about a week. Fluttershy started working as a full time prostitute and died of an infection she contracted from a customer. Applejack was the last one still alive. She was good at handling things like this, even though she was sad, she never did anything extreme. She married and had two happy children after she moved away from Ponyville and to Appleloosa. She died at old age of natural causes. And when she got a glimpse of her next life, she was horrified.
She was going to be Twilight Sparkle, and have to relive how she died--- but this time as the person dying. Once she was transferred to her new life she wouldn't be able to remember anything before that, and couldn't stop the disaster of the prank gone wrong. Her life was going to be a living hell, and there was nothing she could do to stop it.
