The cold spring rain fell softly over the small town, it drizzled on the roads and trees, and tapped upon the roof of the small cottage on the towns edge.
The yellow pegasus sat staring out her window holding little bunny. Usually the little animal brought the pegasus joy, but today she was feeling no joy. She stared sadly out at the dark rainy world beyond her cottage.
The Mare sighed.
“Whats wrong with you Fluttershy…” She whispered quietly to herself and closed her eyes letting her thoughts drift where they may. Her head quickly became filled with cyan and rainbows. The one she longed to be with on this cold rainy day danced among her daydreams.
A light blush fell over her cheeks as she pictured the two of them, snuggled together by the window. Rainbow’s hooves holding her tight.
“NO!” She thought.
Her eyes shot open and she shook her head to rid herself of her naughty thoughts. “I-I mustn't think of her that way….S-shes my friend.”
Fluttershy sighed again taking one last look out at the rain. She let her little bunny hop from her lap the rose herself from her little spot at the window and began her daily chores. All the while as she fed her animal friends her mind still drifted to the rainbow mare. She did her best to shake the thoughts away and put them out of her mind. But everypony knows you can only run from your thoughts for so long.
As the dreary day drew into evening, Fluttershy with her work finished and nothing left to occupy her time was left with no other choice but to face the feelings she'd been hiding from.She plopped down on her couch and curled up in a little ball.
“She would never have feelings for me..She probably doesn't even like mares…” Fluttershy groaned quietly and and rolled on her belly, burying her face in the couch.
Outside the light drizzle had turned into a full on thunderstorm. Fluttershy being the timid mare she is she jumped slightly at each boom. She was less startled and more surprised by the next sound she heard, a frantic knock at her front door.
“Who could that be?” She mumbled quietly as she slid off the couch and trotted toward the door.
Another knock.
“Fluttershy! Open up!” a weary and familiar sounding voice yelled through the door.
“Rainbow Dash?” Fluttershy asked herself as she opened the door, and sure enough there stood a dripping wet, bruised and beaten Rainbow Dash.
Fluttershy gasped “R-Rainbow happened to you?! Quick come inside.” She stepped to the side and ushered her friend inside.
Dash took a few shaky steps inside, she was covered head to hoof in bumps, bruises, and cuts.Her right wing hung limply to one side as if it were broken.
“I was uh flying and I kinda flew into a storm cloud...it was all downhill after that…” Her voice sounded pained.
“O-oh my goodness uh wait right here” Fluttershy darted off to the bathroom and ran back carrying a towel and began to carefully dry the dripping rainbow. Dash winced slightly whenever Fluttershy dried a sore spot, especially when she got to her limp wing.
“T-thanks Fluttershy….” Rainbow reached a hoof back to her wing “I-I don't think its broken….or I really hope its not…”
“Here” Fluttershy led Rainbow by the hoof over to her couch and sat her down, “lemme see your wing.”
Fluttershy gently placed her hooves on Dash’s injured wing causing
her to wince once more. Feeling up and down the wing being as gentle as possible.
“Is it broken?” Dash asked worriedly
“I-I don't think so...lemme just….” Fluttershy gripped the wing in both hooves.
“Wait, w-what are yo-AH!” Dash cried out in pain as Fluttershy twisted and shoved the wing in different direction. Turning and pushing it in towards her side all the while mumbling quiet sorrys. Only stopping when she heard a little. “pop!”
“Stop!” Dash screamed and shoved Fluttershy away from her causing her to fall back onto the floor with a little thud.
“What did you just ah do?!” Dash reached her hoof back to her wing.
“I-I just put it back in place….i-it was dislocated….sorry…” Fluttershy, still on the floor, hid behind her hooves shuttering slightly.
Rainbow looked down at her scared friend with a look of anger that soon melted into regret “T-thank you Fluttershy…I'm sorry I yelled, I-I didn't mean it.” She held out a hoof to help her off the floor.
Fluttershy peaked between her hooves and after a moment of consideration of her friends apology reached up and took the hoof pulling herself back up on the couch.
“Do you want me to wrap your wing? It’ll keep it from moving around” Fluttershy offered.
“Sure, that uh sounds nice.” Rainbow smiled a little as Fluttershy went to get a roll of bandages.
“Ill be gentle this time…” Fluttershy sat and very gently wrapped the injured wing tightly to Rainbow’s side. “Hows that feel?’ She patted Rainbow’s wrapped wing.“Better?’
“Yeah, it feels a lot better…...S-sorry I yelled at you, I wasn't sure what you were doing.” Dash looked her wing over.
“I never meant to hurt you, I just wanted to help.” Fluttershy smiled at her friend.
“I know, thanks again Flutters” Rainbow laid back on the couch and sighed.
“Do you need anything else? Aspirin, food, anything?” Fluttershy asked and started to get up.
“I think i’m okay.” Rainbow smiled at Fluttershy.
Fluttershy sat back down. “U-um how did you get hurt again?”
“Oh well I was flying home and and this storm made it so dark and hazy I couldn't see my hoof in front of face...and I uh I heh heh kinda flew right into the top of a tree…” Dash scratched the back of her head with her hoof awkwardly.
“Oh my, you must have been scared not knowing what you were flying into.”
Rainbow held up her hoof and smirked.
“I never get scared.” She boasted.
“Well I know I would have been scared.” Fluttershy said right as a boom of thunder made her jump a bit. “I wish I was as brave as you Dashie.” She smiled at her friend.
Dash laughed a little. “When did you start calling me Dashie?”
“Oh d-do you not want me to call you Dashie?” Fluttershy asked turning her head the the side a it and brushing her mane from her face.
“No no its fine, Flutters.” Dash grinned
“I like it when you call me that.” Fluttershy blushed only a tad and looked out into the now darkening storming night, Rainbow stretched her hooves and yawned next to her.
“Mind if I sleep here tonight Shy?” Rainbow asked, still stretching.
“Oh not at all Rainbow.” She smiled and Rainbow swung her hind legs up on the couch almost kicking Fluttershy and laid back.
“Thanks” She smiled and closed her eyes.
Fluttershy giggled “You're welcome to sleep in my bed if you want. I don't mind”
“No... I can't kick you out of your own bed...” Dash protested half heartedly.
“I really don't mind sleeping on the couch Dash, my bed would feel a lot nicer on your little wing” Fluttershy smiled
“Hmm….” Dash thought for a moment “We could both just share your bed.”
“Oh uh umm…” Fluttershy looked down away from dash and tried to hide her redding checks “A-are you s-sure dash? Id be fine on the couch.”
Rainbow cocked her head and gave Fluttershy a weird look “Why are you blushing?”
“Um uh n-no reason…” Fluttershy looked around the room nervously “I-Ill be in my room” Fluttershy ran off to her room and slammed the door. Her mind raced worriedly “Oh my Celestia! what do I do!? What do I do?!”
“Fluttershy?” Rainbow’s voice sent Fluttershy off the floor.
“Eep! I-I umm i'm fine rainbow!” She squeaked
“Fluttershy what's going on with you? Lemme in” Rainbow pushed against the door and easily shoved her way in. Fluttershy ran over to her bed, quickly crawling under and hiding amongst the covers.
“Come on Flutters what’s going on?” Dash sat on the edge of
Fluttershy’s bed. “Please just tell me.”
“N-no! I don’t wanna!” Fluttershy pulled the covers tightly around herself.
“Fluttershy! why can't you just tell me what's wrong?” Dash groaned and tried to pull the covers from Fluttershy, but in turn pulling Fluttershy right to her.
Fluttershy lifted her head out of the tangle of sheets, her messy pink mane fell over and covered most of her face. She stared up into her friends eyes,The eyes of the pony she longed to be with, who she thought about night and day was staring at her, holding her just inches away.This was more than she could bear. Fluttershy began to tremble and shake, soon after she began to sob burying her face in the soft fur of Rainbow’s chest. The truth would soon come out.
