5 Days since last moonrise:
The initial panic of Princess Luna’s departure has subsided. Princess Celestia has refused to make any public appearances despite public demands. The atmosphere feels different at night, and none of these differences were felt before Luna’s return: they’re entirely new to me. It is as though the absence of the moon has changed something within all of us, and I can’t quite figure out what it is. Everything feels unbalanced for some reason.
I, the Observer, feel that Luna has locked the moon away under the Earth for the same reason that she became Nightmare Moon and attempted to permanently set the sun 1000 years ago. However, this time, she must have decided that if there was no way to get the ponies of Equestria to appreciate the night, then there would be no night at all. Celestia is still able to raise and lower the sun, but no matter what she seems to try, she has no access to the moon. Only Luna seems to have the ability to move it, and she's vanished.
12 Weeks since last moonrise:
Princess Twilight Sparkle & friends have given up the search for Princess Luna. Though Princess Sparkle was able to find traces of Luna’s magical signature, the signals were faint, and constantly changing directions, and seem to have the same proximity to her no matter where she went. Her only hypothesis is that Luna has dematerialized from her Pony form, or has hidden her essence in the moon. I, personally, couldn’t argue against her.
6 months since last moonrise:
This year’s generation of foals has brought up unnatural results: all of the colts born were either premature or sickly, while all of the female births have been healthy—every single one of them. There have been no reports of any diseases or complications for any of the female births.
8 months since last moonrise:
Celestia has made her first public appearance in over half a year. In her well attended address to the world, she confirmed Luna’s motivations. Unlike last time, she didn’t blame herself in full for Luna’s depressive episodes that she experienced since her return.
She literally told the world that she was disappointed and ashamed of her little ponies for their xenophobia and unwillingness to become the subjects that she wanted them to be. She pointed to the Elements of Harmony, and told the world that they were the only ones standing between Luna and what she was driven to do. I, the Observer, am pleased with her honestly and bluntness. The ponies of Equestria have needed this sort of scolding for centuries.
This year’s heat season was one of the most violent in world history. It seems that the effects of the moonlight on the land amplify serenity and reasoning, among Luna’s personal qualities when she was with us and not being driven mad with loneliness. It seems that the lack of moonlight has caused more heat-rapes than the past 100 years combined.
While heat-rapes will happen perhaps a dozen times a year, there were almost a million in total this year. Stallions refuse to go into the streets in the daylight. Mares marauded in streets in packs like zombies. Many stallions were killed in mares’ anger from dissatisfaction as the stallions’ stamina.
1 year since last moonrise:
Most of the males born from this generation are dead.
Of the 5,456,911 colts that were conceived, 55,053 survived past 2 months of age. Less than 5,000 lived to see 2 years of age.
4 years since last moonrise:
The mare to stallion ratio is now 19:10. Stallions are mysteriously dying during the nights, falling asleep to never awaken. There’s something about the loss of the moon that’s doing this. Families of the surviving colts born are marrying them off for enormous dowries, a practice that went out of date 2000 years ago.
10 years since last moonrise:
The mare to stallion ratio is now 7:3 and rising rapidly. Male prostitution is now the most lucrative business in the world.
The first of those born after Luna’s departure are getting their cutie marks. Most of the colts get them after they’re first raped. The Royal guard, an institution that refuses to allow for gender mixing among its ranks, has officially switched to all female guards because there aren’t enough fit stallions to fill the posts. Stallions and colts are dying every day. Riots are running in the streets of the cities. Stallions are being snatched from houses and being sold into slavery.
20 years since last moonrise:
Princess Celestia has written her first edict from direct royal power in 600 years that all unmarried male citizens of Equestria arr now the property of the crown. Every male born thence-forth was to be taken from his parents and treated for the newly recognized male-moon syndrome. The death rate of being a male with treatment is now 75%. The death rate without treatment in the past five years has been 100%.
20 years, 5 months since last moonrise:
Every unmarried stallion has been relocated to an enormous building recently constructed in Canterlot. Herds with less than 20 mares to a stallion have been declared annulled by the courts. The rationing of sex has begun.
21 years since last moonrise:
Princess Celestia’s edict has been her last public appearance. Ghostly weeping can be heard from the castle at night. We cannot survive like this for much longer. The world is changing so rapidly; yet there is just a tiny glimmer of hope: Princess Sparkle has begun searching through the forbidden archives of Canterlot- something that only Celestia and Luna were able to do. Princess Cadence has gone into mourning for the late Shining Armor, who succumbed to the male-moon disease, dying young at 250 years of age despite the best treatment in known science.
There’s fear in the streets. Every creature in Equestria wears black cloaks when they are outside. They can’t see what I see: Twilight the Brilliant, as she will be called for the actions that she will perform, is ¾ the way to contacting Princess Luna. She spends weeks at a time without sleep. Even the Element of Loyalty is unable to keep up with her. Spike the Dragon has been sighted purchasing highly unstable and specialized equipment from Gryphon scientists off Twilight’s stipend.
25 years since last moonrise:
The mare to stallion ratio is about 3,000 to 1. Twilight Sparkle claims that she has auditory contact with Princess Luna. The ponies of Equestria are too ashamed to apologize to her for their hatred of the night. Twilight is attempting to prove to Luna the results of the moon’s absence.
There has been a break-out at the Masculine Protection Agency. 200 Stallions have escaped, and are assumed to be in a suicide pact.
After 26 years without the Moon, Her Royal Majesty, Princess Luna has finally returned. The future of Pony society is unknown.
