Rainbow fire ch 2
It was a cool autumn afternoon in ponyville. The leaves were beginning to change color and their beauty were enjoyed by Rainbow and fire who were on their way to twilights so rainbow can check out the latest daring doo book
or at least thats what the cyan mare wanted him to believe. Today was a special day as it was fire bolts first birthday in ponyville and since it was his first birthday with rainbow dash she wanted to make sure that it was one he'd always remember.
rainbow decided to start the day by taking fire to clouds dale to eat at her favorite restaurant where they enjoyed a nice breakfast together.
afterwards rainbow took fire to see the wonder-bolts since he's never been and had always wanted to go. fire watched in amazement at the stunts the ponies had performed. He saw the wonder bolts do tricks that he had never seen before and a few he would dare not try.
Then the two raced each other from noon to evening. Both of them had exhausted them selves and Fire was ready to call it a day but the mare had other plans.
As they trotted to twilights giving there wings much needed rest the white pegasus let out a soft yawn to which rainbow dash giggled.
"Tired already fire"
he turned to rainbow and gave her a smile.
"Yes i guess you can say that" he let out another yawn before continuing. "I could really use a nap right about now."
"Dont fall asleep on me now i still have a few more things for us to do."
"Oh rainbow you dont have to trouble yourself any further you've done so much already"
"Its no trouble... i just want your first birthday in ponyville to be the most awesome."
He stopped and put a hoof on her shoulder causing her to stop as well
"And it is.... especially since its with you"
He leaned forward giving her a kiss causing her to blush.
"Jeez you sure like to get all mushy"
The stallion smirked "yeah but i only do it for you my little dashie" he said teasing her.
Rainbow looked around praying that no pony heard that then decided to change the subject.
"So what did you think of the wonder-bolts "
"They were amazing ! ! far better than i expected.... when i was little i always wanted to see them but i never got the chance."
She looked at him confused "really i always figured most parents have taken their children to see them at least once."
Fire frowned looking down at the road as he trotted "mine didn't"
Wanting talk about something else he decided to ask her a question "so rainbow why are we going to twilights again?"
"To check out the new daring doo book remember.... i said that like three times today" she said giving him a bit of an annoyed look.
"Oh im sorry.... my memory is a little weak when im tired" a moment later he realized something "well since your going to check out a book maybe i can find the book i need for my report."
"Yeah she should have it.... So anyway hows school going" the mare asked.
"Its good not swamped in home work just yet."
"You said you're studying to be a veterinarian." He nodded "yes i always loved helping sick animals it would be my dream to do it professionally"
They trotted a little further until finally reaching twilights home. Rainbow went up to the door and knocked. There was no response. She knocked again but still nothing.
" i guess she isnt home maybe we should-" but before he could finish he was interrupted by rainbow who had opened the door. The two stared at blackness inside.
"Nah she's probably upstairs studying cmon lets go". Fire stood there in place refusing to go in. "It sure is dark in there i-i cant see anything."
Rainbow face hoofed "you're not seriously scared of the dark are you?."
"Oh uh no of coarse not" rainbow sighed and walked in with fire who stayed very close to her as he entered the dark library.she could feel the stallion beside her shake.
"Calm down you're gonna be fine."
"I know Im just a little cold"
Suddenly the lights turned on revealing the other five ponies and spike "SURPRISE!" they yelled in unison.
The White stallion covered his head with his hoof but lowered it when he realized he wasn't in any danger he looked around the room and could see that his friends had thrown him a surprise party.
"Is this for me?" Pinkie suddenly appeared just inches away from his face "Well duh silly it is your birthday and rainbow told me you never had a surprise party before so i was super duper excited to give your first one"
"Actually i never had any kind of party on my birthday.
Pinkie looked confused "never not even once"
"No" pinkie pie frowned. The white pegasus turned his head and noticed a giant cake on the other side of the room and trotted over to it. "Wow did you make this your self"
Pinkie shook her head "no i got help from the cakes and apple jack." Taking a closer look he noticed that the cakes colors were red, orange and white. And smiled. "Hey those are the colors of my coat and mane."
"That was apple jacks idea" said pinkie the orange mare smiled "sure was but it was pinkies idea tah make it so big." She wasnt kidding as the cake stood a foot taller than every-pony in the room.
Tears began welling up in his eyes. "Thanks Girls."
"you are most welcome darling."answered rarity.
"Oh oh presents" pinkie ran to retrieve her gift while twilight walked over handing hers to fire. Spike looked at rainbow dash with a sly smile on his face.
"Hey dash i bet i can guess the gifts your all about to give to fire."
"No you can't" she said rolling her eyes.
"Sure i can its easy" "whats that suppose to mean" spike sighed "well no offense but when it comes to gifts you guys can be a bit predictable its basically the same thing each time."
"It is not!" Rainbow protested "Ten bits says other wise."
"You're on" replied the mare. Fire was unwrapping twilights present when spike leaned closer to rainbow and quietly said "she got him a book or something educational." Fires eyes widened with excitement when he finished unwrapping the present. everyone else rolled their eyes when they saw twilight give some pony yet again a book.
"I know how much you love astronomy so i got you starfield's guide to the universe" fire bolt looked at the cover and smiled "wow this actually a hard book to find" twilight nodded. "believe me i know."
thank you twilight i love it". As rarity trotted over with her gift spike whispered into rainbows ear again.
"She either got him a suite or something that goes with one" fire removed a fadora and a black suite with a red tie from a big bag. Spike face palmed "well turns out she got him both".
Rainbow sighed "lucky guess."
"Thank you rarity out of the ten suits you made me this is my favorite"
"Your quite welcome dear i know you'll look just dashing"
Everyone gave what spike had expected
Apple jack gave him something apple related, fluttershy something animal related like well an animal a pet blue jay to be precise and so on.
Spike looked up at rainbow giving her a know it all look "looks like you owe me ten bits" "not so fast you never guessed what i got him" rainbow said with confidence. spike thought for a moment "wait the wonder bolts are performing in clouds dale this week you took him to see that didn't you" rainbow sighed "never thought id lose a bet to a child" "well theres a first time for everything"
Twilight over heard their conversation and gave spike an angry look as she trotted over to him."spike are you gambling!!!!
"Uh.... no"
"Spike!!! What did i tell about gambling!!!" "You told me not to do it"
Twilight continued to give him an angry look "give it back spike"
"Ah come on i won this time "
"now spike." "Fine" spike said then gave rainbow her money back."
After the opening of presents the ponies
Went to play party games such as pin the tail on the pony, charades and pony version of twister. After the ponies and spike managed to untangle them selves from each other. Twilight spoke up wanting to introduce something that
The six had not done before.
"Alright every-pony i got something interesting for us to do". Twilight said dangling a pocket watch in front of her friends
"0h oh are you going to time how fast we can eat all the cup cakes in-" apple jack put a hoof to pinkies mouth allowing twilight to continue.
"Actually i thought it be fun if we did some hypnotism .... So who wants to go first" rainbow looked over to fire and elbowed him to go forward "why don't you go"
"Oh i-i don't know what if i do something embarrassing" rainbow dash rubbed at his shoulder "cmon it'll be fun"
Twilight nodded in agreement "yeah and don't worry were not going to make fun of you"
Fire bolt sighed and stepped forward in front of twilight "ok if you say so, lets do it" twilight began to dangle the watch in front of him. "Are you ready" she said. Fire nodded. Twilight slowly swung the object his eyes following its every move. Back and forth back and forth. His eyes got heavier after a minute Until finally he was out.
"So girls what should we do" asked twilight. A soft voice answered her. "Um maybe we can make him act like a puppy if thats okay." "Sure fluttershy"
The lavender mare turned to face fire
"When i tap my hoof you will become a puppy"
she tapped her hoof twice and his eyes opened. Letting out a bark he ran over to fluttershy and licked her cheeks causing Fluttershy to giggle and rub at his mane. As she did so fire rolled on his back and the yellow mare began to rub at his chest "my you sure are playful."
Spike shook his head "This is so wrong"
Apple jack picked up a stick and began to whistle "here boy" waving it around fire followed the sticks every move with his eyes. Apple jack tossed it and he ran after it catching it in mid air. He ran back to apple jack dropping the stick at her hooves. The orange mare rubbed behind his ears causing him to wag his tail.
The girls giggled while spike thought about how weird his friends really were. Twilight tapped her hoof causing the pegasus to stop. An idea popped in rarities mind "twilight instead of making him act like something is it possible to make him relive something from his past"
"Sure what did you have in mind" rarity thought for a moment "how about when he had his first crush"
"Um i don't know rarity that seems awfully private" rarity turned to look at fluttershy "oh its nothing he would be embarrassed about besides we tell each other about the colts we like all the time."
Everyone seemed to agree but fluttershy still didn't feel Comfortable. to her it felt like reading someones diary without their permission. But before she could complain again she was interrupted By the tapping of twilights hoof his eyes opened again and he slowly made his way to the center of the room his legs were shaking nervously Along the way.
Fire stopped and it looked like he was trying to get some ponies attention. "Um hi cloudy" he gulped " i know we've only known each other for a little but i really like you and i think you're very sweet and kind and " he began to blush and i was wondering if you wanted to go with me to the hearths warming dance." Then a giant grin formed on his face "really you will ..... Sure i can pick you up at 7 ..... Ok ill see you then"
fire walked away beaming with joy "im the luckiest little colt" he said to himself. The girls awwed even fluttershy who still didn't approve.
Twilght tapped her hoof and he sat down with his eyes closed. "Well girls i think thats enough lets bring him back."
"Wait twilight not yet" shouted rainbow dash. "What is it rainbow."
"i was thinking can you take him back to like his 8th birthday or something."
"I guess so but why" rainbow gave a sad sigh "I'm beginning to think that he's spent a lot of his birthdays as a kid alone and i just want to see if thats the case."
Fluttershy gave the blue mare an angry look "so ask him when hes awake not like this " "he doesn't like to talk about his childhood fire always changes the subject when were about to..... I just want to understand him better" fluttershy nodded "ok i understand but let this be the last time". Rainbow nodded back. "It is".
Twilight looked at fire and began "you're 8 years old and its your birthday. After twilight tapped her hoof his eyes opened and started looking around like he was trying to find some-pony. "Mom im home... Mommy are you here". He then runs over to twilights sofa when something catches his eye "oh there you are .... Are you asleep?" He gently shakes twilights couch "i know you said never to bother you but i need to tell you something" he starts to shake the sofa a little harder. The look on the his face becoming more scared."mommy are you ok....mommy.... P-Please wake up. He continued shaking the coach then lowered his head onto a pillow giving a sigh of relief.
"She'll be fine her hearts beating normal." He looked to his left and picked up a small object in his hooves."stupid pills" he quickly looked around and hid the object in the closet. As he made his way back to the sofa something startled fire causing him to stumble. He got up and began to back away slowly his ears lowered and eyes wide with fear. "Hi dad hows-.... He backed away again his body trembling "whats wrong".... I-i didn't mean to it was an accident.... Im not calling you liar.... I-i do respect you"
he kept backing up until he was against the wall then curled up into a ball on the ground covering his head with his hooves. He let out a little whimper with his body twitching every few seconds
The girls had tears in their eyes as they watched him But they didn't understand why he was twitching, twilight gasped when she realized why. "He's.... He's beating fire" twilight's heart sank, rainbow was about run over to comfort him but stopped when she saw
The stallion get back up to his hooves. He looked up and started to panic. "No.... no not that please anything but that. don't put In there i cant see anything down there P-Please don't put me in the dark.... i'm scared of the dark."
The stallion began to sob "mom please wake up.... Mom" rainbow quickly flew over to twilight "make this stop i cant stand to see him like this." Twilight nodded and tapped her hoof the stallion closed his eyes and stood still. Twilight was so chocked up she almost couldn't speak. W-When i tap my hoof again you will awaken."At the sound fire opened his eyes and looked up at twilight. A frown forming on his face.
"Aww sorry twilight i don't think it worked hah uh maybe it'll work on spike." twilight lowered her head "no it worked" the Pegasus smiled "really so what did you have me do" instead of answering she just stood there her head still lowered. fire got a better look at twilight and noticed she had been crying. "Twilight whats wrong."
"Nothing im ok" "you don't look ok and why are you avoiding eye contact with me did i do something" twilight knew she should tell him what happened but couldn't she Felt terrible for making him relive something so painful. Fire turned to his friends and could see a look of shock and sadness on their faces. pinkies hair had straightened he knew that was a bad sign.
He shook as he looked back to twilight "i i didn't hurt you did i. Im really sorry if i did." Twilight was about to speak but was interrupted when rainbow dash flew between her and the stallion she hugged him harder than she ever had before.
"No you didn't ..... you did nothing wrong." Fire returned her hug. "Look i know you're afraid of the dark and im sorry for giving you a hard time about it." Fire let go and looked at her to see a tear roll down her cheek. Since he had known her this was the first time he had seen her cry.
"Hey its ok You didn't upset me. So please don't cry. He hugged her again but fire couldn't help but feel a little confused why was she acting like this? And why were her friends so upset?
"Girls what happened when i was- before he could finish he was cut off by a sudden group hug that came right out of nowhere. "We care about you fire and will always be here if you need us" answered the lavender unicorn. Fire felt completely lost. "Um thank you twilight but what happ-".
"Boy im hungry anyone want cake" pinkie said cutting off fire. Everyone nodded and followed pinkie. If he didn't know any better it was as if they didnt want to tell him what happened. To tired to care he decided to get some cake and worry about it tomorrow.
The next morning spike was walking through ponyville after just completing an errand for twilight and waved at the ponies that greeted him humming a happy tune to himself. Not looking where he was going he bumped into something. Looking up he saw it was somepony. "Hey fire whats up"
"Hello spike Nothing much just out on a little walk what are you up to."
"Just finishing some errands" then spike realized something about him was a little off and was giving spike a serious look "did you have fun last night spike" the dragon nodded "yes, and i loved the cake pinkies best work yet" fire nodded
"Yes it was marvelous indeed and i loved the the party games speaking of which what did you think of the hypnotism."
Spike gulped knowing full well what fire was getting at. " You Now that i think about it nopony ever told me what happened while i was out." He leaned in closer hopping spike would give him an answer.
"I ugh ..... Im coming rarity sorry fire i need to-" "spike i didn't hear anything"
"Well ugh thats because shes really far and dragons have better hearing than ponies." "Spike a week ago when we were at the park i called your name like 3 times and you didn't even turn your head."
"Well there was music playing and- "i was right behind you" "well ugh i ugh"
Spike was screwed and he knew it.
And just like that spike made a break for it unfortunately for him fire had quick reflexes he lifted a hoof and pined his tail to the ground and was running in place.
"Spike im sorry but i cant let you go not until you tell me what happened during my hypnosis." Seeing that he could not break free spike stopped running and sat down in defeat.
"Ok fine ill tell you" the purple dragon sighed and continued "alright well the first thing we did was we made you act like a puppy"
"That doesn't seem so bad"
"You ran up to fluttershy and licked her face then you rolled on your back and she rubbed at your chest"
"Wait what" "then you played fetch with apple jack and after you returned the stick she rubbed behined your ears causing you to wag your tail"
"Spike thats really weird" "i know right"
"Ok well what happened after that"
"Then rarity thought it would be a good idea to make you relive something from your past." Fire looked a little nervous "like what"
"We made you relive your first crush where we saw you ask a filly named cloudy out." Fire bolts cheeks turned red "spike thats really private". "Yeah i know are you mad"
"Im embarrassed but what else?"
Spike took a deep breath to calm him self then sighed "then we saw you relive your eighth birth day" shocked he let go of spikes tale and sat down on his haunches his ears flopping down. "You guys saw that" spike nodded fire let out a sigh "well that explains why everyone looked so sad last night especially rainbow i really wish none of you saw that"
Spike lowered his head in shame "im really sorry for what we did we had no right to violate your privacy like that."
"Its not that spike im worried your all going to treat me different i don't want ponies to feel sorry for me it makes me feel like im not normal."
Spike gave fire a warm hug "i promise i wont treat you any different and besides your better than normal."
Fire smiled and hugged the dragon back "thanks spike"
Fire let go and looked at the road ahead
"well i better talk to rainbow i can tell she is still upset about all this."
Spike thought for a moment "do you think its always a good idea to talk things out regardless of what the problem might be". "Fire was surprised by his words "of course spike if something is bothering you or some-pony else its always good to talk to them and try to work things out its never good to leave problems unresolved"
"Yeah i suppose, well anyway i better get back to the library ill see you later" spike waved good bye as he ran off. The Pegasus smiled as he waved back at the baby dragon before taking off towards rainbows house, on the way he kept thinking about what he said to spike and the more he thought about it he realized he could not leave things the way they were with his parents and knew he would have to face them
Fire landed at rainbows doorstep and knocked three times moments later she opened the door looking a little disappointed. "You know you don't have to knock i gave you a key"
"I know but i dont feel comfortable just walking in on you ill save it for emergencies."
"Well come in me and pinkie mostly pinkie baked some cookies" fire gave a confused look he noticed he's been confused a lot lately. "Rainbow you don't bake well aside from your hoof."
Rainbow gave him an annoyed look "haha very funny well i just thought id cheer you up" she flew over to the kitchen and grabbed a glass of lemonade. "Thirsty?"
He looked at her suspiciously "Why are you trying to cheer me up i feel fine?"
"I know, what i meant to say was that i just feel like doing something nice for you thats all nothing wrong with that is there?"
Fire took a seat and had a bite of one of the cookies that were on the table. "No there isnt .....but i know your doing this because you feel bad for me" the mare shook her head "i have no idea what your talking about."
"dash we need to talk" he let out a sigh and motioned for her to sit down next to him.
"Spike told me everything that happened when i was hypnotized" "he did?"
"Yeah .....look im sorry for not telling you and i know its not healthy to keep something like this to myself and since im your colt-friend i should have told you about my child hood instead of keeping this pain bottled up inside"
Rainbow looked up at him rubbing her hoof against his back comfortingly.
"don't feel bad I understand it must be really hard for you to talk about what those monsters did to you".
"Just remembering it is painful" fire added. rainbow began to feel tears well up in her eyes "what a sick bastard, what kind of pony would punch his eight year old son like that"
"He never punched me" he said shaking his head Rainbow feared the worst "what do you mean." "He would always use something usually it was a stick sometimes he would make go pick a stick off a tree and i had to make sure it wasn't to small otherwise he would hit me harder with it."
Tears rolled down rainbow dashes cheek "thats just torture what would cause him to do something like that." "My father was an alcoholic and also remember when i was a kid i couldn't control my fire power and i would get into a lot of trouble." "My mom was just as bad all though she never hit me she would always ignore me and when she didnt she would say how worthless i
Was or how ugly i was to look at.
As the mare wiped her eyes he couldn't help but feel a little guilty for upsetting her" rainbow please don't cry this was over ten years ago so you don't have feel bad im fine"
She sniffles "no your not fine it all makes sense like why your always scared to meet new ponies always afraid they'll reject you and also why your afraid of the dark ." Fire knew she had point.
"Its not fair to only blame my parents for why im like this When i was young kids use to pick on me and call me names
Saying i was a freak and that my only talent was destroying things adults saw me as a threat and would keep me away from their children."
"was there any-pony who cared about you"
Fire bolt smiled "Yeah remember my aunt and uncle they were very good to me they were the closest i had parents."
"Oh yeah i remember we visited them a a few months ago" fire nodded " yes they always knew how to cheer me up when I was down, they would give me presents even when it wasn't my birth day and were there to comfort me when my heart was broken i love them so much and one day they allowed me to live with them."
Rainbow scratched her head "and your parents were ok with this" "my parents didn't care they were glad i was gone."
Fire let out a sad sigh "but i knew i couldn't stay with them forever the older i got the more dangerous i became
So one day when i was 13 i left my home to live in the desert where i couldn't hurt anypony..... And also where no pony could hurt me."
She looked at him surprised "I knew you lived their for a while but 13?" "Yeah and i had to take care of myself as well and educate my self sometimes when i would visit my aunt and uncle they would help me with my math and would also convince me to stay but i turned them down each time i knew it for the best".
Rainbow sighed and put her arm around him pulling him close to her "I'm just glad things are better for you now."
He gave her a warm smile then took her free hoof and held it in his "Me too"
Suddenly his smile began to disappear "rainbow i know your not gonna like this but I've been thinking"
"about what"
He closed his eyes and gently breathed in."After spike told me what happened He asked me if its aways a good idea to talk things out with someone no matter what the problem might be and i told him that it was and that its never good to leave a problem unresolved"
"Yeah so what are you saying"
He breathed in once more trying his best calm his nerves. "On the way to your house i began thinking about what i said to spike and the more i thought about it the more i realized that the problem i have with my parents is something i cant just leave alone i have to face them."
The cyan mare pulled away from fire trying her best not to yell at him
"Are you crazy after what they did to you." She narrowed her eyes at him causing fire to be a little scared of her. "Im sorry but i cant let you do this im not going to let them hurt you again".
"Rainbow i appreciate your concern but im not a little colt anymore i can take care of myself"
She crossed her arms her anger growing by the second. "What do you hope to accomplish anyway i mean whats the point your mom is a druggy and your dad is a drunkard is anything your going to say to them matter."
"Its been so many years we don't know if there still like that maybe they changed maybe and i know this is unlikely but what if they regret what happened and they want me back."
Rainbow started to calm herself a little "are you sure that not just wishful thinking"
He shrugged "maybe it is but i need to know for sure but whether they changed or not they have to know that what they did was wrong and that i deserved better and that no child should feel unloved."
"Personally i think you should report your father he should be in jail for what he did". Replied rainbow. "I don't want to report him and besides i think it's to late their is a statue of limitations on this sort of thing."
"I know you think this crazy dash but i need to talk to them, even if they don't care about what i have to say i got to at least try I need to get this off my chest."
Rainbow dash knew there was no point in arguing any further his mind was made up and there was no changing it
"Fine but im not letting you do this alone
Ill be there if you need me" fire smiled "thanks rainbow this means a lot to me"
Rainbow sighed and rubbed her hooves together nervously "im sorry if im being a little over protective its just that i care about you and i want you to be safe Because i you know" "its because you love me" he said giving her a dreamy smile.
"Yeah i do" she said smiling back fire leaned in and gave her a kiss on the cheek. "I love you too"
rainbow looked at fire giving him a smirk
"Oh and by the way some-pony would have to be on drugs to think your ugly
Your actually really handsome" fire shook his head and reached out to grab another cookie. "Nah I'm what they call man-pretty" Rainbow rolled her eyes at him. "Your so weird"
Fire nodded in agreement as he was chewing on more cookies "hmm hm got any milk?" He said with his mouth full.
Later that evening the two were on their way to his parents house as rainbow dash flew alongside fire she noticed that he hadn't said much of anything since they left her house. When she looked at him she could see that he was very nervous. Maybe even scared. "Hey are you alright"
Fire put on a fake smile "yeah sure"
After flying for a few minutes He pointed at a house to rainbows left "thats it right there"
The two landed at the door step with rainbow dash waiting patiently on fire to make a move. He stood their staring at the door bell his heart beating so hard it felt as if it were to leap out of chest. He slowly lifts his hoof to ring the bell and shook as he did so.
He stopped when he felt a hoof gently rub his back. "You know you don't have to do this right now we can come back when your ready"
He narrowed his eyes and gave rainbow a determined look "no its now or never" he rang the door bell and waited
Moments later the door opened revealing a light gray stallion with a black mane."hello how can i " he froze as he looked at the white pony in front of him "fire is....is that you"
"Hi dad" he said sadly refusing to look at him directly while rainbow stared right at him with a look of hate in her eyes
"Im glad your here fire ..... i never thought id see you again p-please come in"
As fire trotted inside he noticed that his father seemed different and did he just say he was glad that fire had shown up. Fire and rainbow dash followed him to the living room and sat on the couch
His father sat on the sofa across from them there was a brief moment of silence before his father spoke "So how are you doing how have you been all these years." "Fine just fine"
"Its really is good to see you again and who may i ask is this young lady"
"Oh this is rainbow dash shes my mare friend" his father smiled and put his hoof out for her to shake "its nice to meet you my name is blue dawn" rainbow dash glared at him refusing to shake his hoof
"Hi" she said with a bit of an attitude. He thought about asking her what was wrong but decided against it he didnt want to make her worse.
"Dad you seem different" he paused and and got a better look at his surroundings "also this place looks really nice i can tell you've put in a lot of work into this room.
Blue dawn smiled at his sons observation "ever since my heart attack a year ago a lot of things have changed...... First off i quit drinking it was why i had my heart attack in the first place that and my stress..... Your mother was really worried about me i didn't think she cared about me anymore but she did it caused her to stop taking those pills and after i left the hospital she did what she could to help me recover." He sighed then continued
"i was so moved by her kindess that she became part of the reason why i quit drinking we grew closer to each other and i loved her more than i ever did before. Then i began thinking about how i treated you" he lowered his head feeling both shame and guilt hit him all at once.
"Dad what you did was wrong and-"
Your right i was terrible and you deserved better you deserved a loving and caring father. I should have been a pony that you could look up to one who you could love and knew loved you back and it breaks my heart every day knowing you never had that father and for that i am truly truly sorry.... i don't expect you to forgive me i just want you Know. And i intend to make it up to you.... that is if you'll let me.
Fire tried to hold back his tears but it was no use "yeah i guess i-"
Before he could finish the front door opened interrupting fire, a mare with a dark blue mane and light blue coat walked in holding a bag of groceries.
"Hi honey im sorry but there weren't any walnuts perhaps-" her groceries fell to the floor when she saw him. She felt tears sting her eyes as she slowly trotted over to her son she felt like something knocked the air right out of her..... she stood there for a moment and said the first thing that came to mind. "I-I really missed you. she leaned in to hug him but fire backed away quickly . It hurt her so much to see him do that but she couldn't blame him.
"Hi mom" fire could see that what he did upset her and felt guilty for doing so "look Im sorry im just not ready for that yet" she gave him a sad smile "its ok i understand" fire looked at her and wondered "mom did you really miss me" she wiped her eyes and nodded "yes i did .... how have you been and is there anything i could get you" "I've been good and its ok i don't need anything thank you" his mom turned to see the cyan pegasus next to him "hello and who might you be?."
Rainbow glared at her "my name is rainbow dash im a good friend of your son" She said giving her a cold look causing fires mother to take a step back.
"its nice to meet you my name is cloud shine oh and by the way i was about to make dinner i would love it if you and rainbow dash joined us". Fire smiled and knew that she was being sincere.
"Yes we would love to join you" rainbow dash was starting to get increasingly agitated "fire can i speak to you in private."
"Um ok sure .....please excuse us." They walked into the kitchen and closed the door behind them. "What is it dash" he said giving her a concerned look. "look i know this means a lot to you and i know they seem nice but-" "but you don't trust them." Rainbow lowered her head "no i don't..... i mean they seem a little too nice its like they are putting on act"
The white stallion took a moment to think about what she said "i can see why your suspicious i mean seeing them act like this is kinda strange for me ....but i know there not faking I've seen them do that so id be able to tell and besides what would they gain."
"Yeah i hope your right but dont let your guard down i don't want you to get hurt."
"I wont let myself be hurt and ill feel better knowing that your here." Rainbow dash smiled "Like i said ill always be here if you need me."
Fire opened the kitchen door slightly and could see his parents talking "we better get back out there we don't want be rude."
As the couple walked back into the living room his parents ended the conversation and looked over at the two
With excited expressions. " Fire Me and your mother have been talking and we came up with a wonderful idea"
"Like what" fire answered "well i thought that we could spend some quality time together and do all the things you wanted to do with me and your mother when you were younger like we could go fishing what do you say."
Fire thought for second and began to like the idea it would allow them to get to know him better and make new memories and his relationship with his parents would improve for the better.
"Sure but only if rainbow dash is allowed to come." His mom nodded in agreement "well of course she can i would love to get to know her better speaking of which how did you two meet."
Fire went on to tell them about not only how they met but also a little about rainbow dash and why he liked her. He also told them about himself and his dreams of becoming a veterinarian.
Later they had dinner in the dinning room and to fires surprise it was absolutely delicious he never knew his mom could cook like this or at all for that matter. Later that night they continued to converse and even shared a few laughs. Fire was happy and relieved that his parents had accepted him and that everything turned out ok. Rainbow dash however was still skeptical and wasn't about to let her guard down.
After having finished her fruit salad rainbow let out a small yawn "well we should probably get going." Fire looked at the clock over on wall in front of him
"Yes im afraid we should and thank you for dinner it was amazing."
"Your welcome" she replied "hey mom i was wondering if you could teach me how to cook .....if you don't mind that is." "Of course i don't mind plus it would be nice have someone to cook with"
"Thats good .... let me help you clear the table" fire got up and grabbed a few plates and balanced them On one hoof then he trotted over to the kitchen sink. His mom did the same and followed after. Leaving rainbow and fires father by themselves As they began washing the dishes He could sense that something was bothering her when he turned to look at her he noticed a tear roll down her cheek. "Mom whats the matter"
"Don't call me mom ! ! " fire flinched at her sudden out burst "i dont deserve to be called that...... There were So many times when you needed me and i wasn't there. I remember this one night when you were six you came to me saying you had a bad dream you looked scared and i told you to stop acting like baby when i should have comforted you.
"That was a along time ago i already forgot about it" fire lied hopping she'd feel better. "But i still remember and i feel terrible.... i- I'm sorry .....for everything." A Part of him wanted to forgive her he wished he could just go up to his mom and give her a big hug and say that he loved her but fire couldn't bring himself to do so.
"But your here for me now and thats what matters i cant tell you how happy you and dad made me tonight it meant so much." Cloud shine wiped her eyes and Smiled sadly at her son "I'm glad .....i love you"
"I know" uh common fire say you love her back she needs to hear it from you.... don't be such a jerk". Fire thought scolding himself.
Meanwhile rainbow dash was waiting patiently in the dinning room for her colt friend to finish up "so rainbow your on the weather team you know i use
to-" she cut him off and moved closer her face only inches away from his
"you may have fire buying this good parent act but i don't so let me make something perfectly clear.... If you say or do anything i don't like if you hurt fire in any way ill make sure you'll live to regret it and that goes for cloud shine too.....do you understand !"
The stallion before her shook nervously then spoke after she backed away from him. "Yes i understand but i promise that you have nothing to worry about i just want to spend time with my son."
"That better be true for your sake" moments later the kitchen door opened and fire was ready to take rainbow home. "Well ill see you later and about the fishing trip how about this saturday." "Sounds good" his father replied.
They trotted with rainbow and fire to the front door to say their goodbyes and waved as they flew off into the night. On the way to rainbows home fire was relatively quiet. "Hey why the long face i thought you had a good time" rainbow dash said after she noticed he hadn't said anything since they left.
" Oh i did Its just when i was in the kitchen with my mom she was feeling guilty about how she wasn't there for me she apologized but i couldn't forgive her she said she loved me but i couldn't say it back my parents were so nice and i can see that they care but i still cant let it go because I'm still hurt by what they did." Fire sighed "why cant i just let it go i feel so rotten."
"Your not rotten you've been through a lot and despite that your still willing to give them a second chance which is something i don't think they deserve."
"Dash i know you dont like them but try to be nice.... Please." "Fine ill try." Rainbow dash said reluctantly
Minutes later they arrived at rainbow"s home landing on her door step. "Well i better get going dash thanks for coming with me."
"Wait don't you want to stay over" the white pegasus shook his head "sorry id love to but i have things i need to do at home maybe next time." Rainbow trotted closer to him"hey no problem." She leaned in giving fire a kiss on the lips with her arm around his neck pulling him closer. They held the kiss for a few seconds before pulling away.
"GoodBye dash ill see you later."
"Bye" rainbow watched fire take off into the night and went inside when she could no longer see him. After she shut the door behind her she let out a sigh " i may not trust them fire but i do hope they've changed"
Saturday came and at about 6am a loud
Knocking was heard at rainbows door the cyan pegasus got up and trotted to answer it with her eyes half open and the urge to kill in her mind.
"Dude its like 6am" fire looked at his watch "well actually its more like 6:15 it took you a while to get the door" recognizing the voice she looked up and fully opened her eyes "fire.... just.... why"
"Well i did say we'd leave early" "i thought you meant like ten" fire chuckled "thats too late ....fishing takes a while so its good to be there early."
Rainbow gave him a confused look "we dont even eat fish why are we doing this in the first place." "Oh i would never hurt them its just fun to catch them and look at all the different types of fish we can find." Rainbow rolled her eyes "sounds like a great way to spend a saturday" "i know right" he said enthusiastically not getting her sarcasm.
Later they met blue dawn at the lake and he looked excited to spend the day with the two. Things went pretty well for fire. He had caught a dozen fish and also got to learn a few things about his father the two joked and laughed and by sundown they called it a day and went to his parents house where fire, rainbow and his mom cooked for several hours. fire liked how patient she was with him since he was still learning and in the end made some good tasting treats with his mother.fire had an awesome day which he would remember for a while.
Rainbow on the other hand did not have such a great time. The whole time she was fishing she had managed to catch only the most aggressive ones and sometimes getting smacked in the face when she would try to throw them back in the water. Cooking was just as problematic for her since she burned her hooves several times and also managed to burn a cake some how of course fire was there to encourage her and offer her some band aides
All though she didnt have much fun she couldn't help but smile from time to time because she was happy to see fire have such a good time with his parents and rainbow was actually beginning to like them they seemed like nice ponies with good intentions who really cared about their son and also were nice to her even though she wasn't and as result began to act kinder to them.
After cooking with cloud shine they all had dinner together and ate the deserts they had made. "Well i have to say you three out did yourselves the desert was amazing" complimented blue dawn.
"Thanks" answered cloud shine and fire bolt in unison except for rainbow who sat their silent. They talked a little more and fire suggested they should go camping in the woods. All but one agreed. cloud shine had to visit a relative that weekend and couldn't come. at 11:30 fire looked at the clock and mentioned he needed some shut eye fire and rainbow thanked them for a wonderful day and trotted to the door to leave.
fire stopped and turned back giving them a smile a tear rolling down his cheek "mom ....dad....." "Yes what is it" replied his mother "i forgive you" he ran up to them and gave his parents a hug.
His mom looked down at him smiling "we love you" fire looked up "and i love you both." Rainbow started to get misty eyed she realized this was happening a lot lately. She trotted over and waited for them to finish. She looked over at blue dawn and sighed. "Im sorry for threatening you that one day i guess i had you all wrong." Blue dawn waved his hoof dismissively "its ok i understand fire is lucky to have some-pony like you who cares about him". Fire eyes widened "you did what". Rainbow dash grinned sheepishly.
On the way to rainbows house fire flew close to her side smiling. Today had gone perfect for him but felt bad that rainbow didn't enjoy herself he wanted do something to cheer her up she deserved it especially after being nice to them and apologizing to his father.
"Hey rainbow im sorry you didnt enjoy yourself today so tell you what tomorrow will do what ever you want." "Really, awesome" rainbow thought for a second giving him a mischievous grin "i got a few things in mind"
Fire gulped "like what" "well i can go for some pranking ive been meaning to get pinkie back" "um ok sure whatever you want." Fire scratched his head "listen im not doing anything tomorrow if you want i can stay over." "Great we can listen to some records and fall asleep on the couch." Rainbow said fire nodded at her "sounds like plan i guess your just as tired as i am" "pretty much"
Later the two did just that they sat on the couch and listened to sapphire shores for about an hour. rainbows eyes
Got heavy until finally sleep claimed her
She fell to the side resting her head on fires chest. Fire put an arm around her and rested his head on top of hers "good night dash." His eyes began to close slowly than drifted off to sleep.
The following week was a bit hectic for fire to say the least having not only alot of home work but a test to study for as well. He didn't get to see rainbow or his friends very much and rainbow was busy with her weather work.
They were both relieved when the weekend finally came and both were looking forward to the camping trip with blue dawn. It was a beautiful saturday and Fire was at his house packing food and other supplies until he heard a knock at the door.
"Come in" "hey fire are you ready" he heard a female voice say. "Oh hey rainbow im almost done." Blue dawn trotted inside and went over to fire "need any help" "no im fine thanks though" after he put a flash light into his back pack he zipped it up and put it on his back "okay ready"
"So fire do you know where were going" asked rainbow dash. "Yes theres a nice spot in the woods that i know about where theres a large water fall and a pond surrounding it. We can set up camp next to it and we'll have clean water to drink." Rainbow nodded "sounds great"
The hike through the woods lasted about 3 hours before they found the spot they were looking for and since they were carrying a lot of things in their back packs they had to trot there instead. Finally when they arrived Rainbow dash looked around and took in a deep breath then exhaled. Fire trotted over to her "well isn't it beautiful. Rainbow smiled "yeah its pretty cool so can you help me set up the tent." The white pegasus nodded "sure thing." After the three set up the tents they set out to look for some food.
They picked all sorts of berries and put them into their saddle bags they also took a few pictures at some of the scenery. After several hours The sun began to set blue looked up and noticed it was getting late. "Well thats enough for now we should probably head back and get a fire going." Rainbow yawned "yeah plus im bushed" she said while she leaned her head against fires shoulder *crack*
Fires head popped up "hey guys did you hear that" "hear what" rainbow asked shutting her eye lids *crack* *growl* her eyes shot open then quickly turned to look behind her. "Uh guys" the two stallions turned their heads and gasped when they saw what approached them.
a large pack of wolves with glowing red eyes began to surround them. Going in circles preparing for the attack. "Fire cant you do something."asked rainbow dash feeling a bit intimidated. "I cant talk to them They're not normal its not just their eyes something about them is very disturbing . Rainbow gulped "i was afraid you'd say that."
Just as they were about to fly away one of the creatures suddenly leapt at fire swiping a claw at him. Right before it could rip into his flesh Rainbow dash punched the beast straight in the mouth sending it flying into a tree. At this the wolves all charged at once. Leaping into the air towards the pegasi.
"Come on we can take them" yelled rainbow dash fire nodded and jumped forward into the air knocking out a few that charged him. While rainbow dash took out a few of her own . His dad managed to keep a few away but had some trouble catching his breath.
After knocking out another fire noticed he couldn't see his father. "Dad where are you" "aghh" looking in the distance fire could see his father get dragged off into a cave by an angry wolf. "Dad im coming." The white stallion flew as fast he could towards the cave hoping to save him in time. Fire stopped at the entrance for a brief moment staring at the darkness in front of him.
"Ahhh!!!" Hearing his father scream again he galloped inside "dad where are you." At the end of the cave he could see a pair of red eyes stare back at him. The beast caught side of fire and charged in his direction. Fire managed to block his attack pushing it off to the side.
The creature disappeared from view then jumped at fire from behind catching the pegasus off guard. As the wolf wrestled him to the ground the beast raised his paw to swipe at his chest but got the stallions forearm instead when he blocked it.
The pegausus narrowed his eyes at the beast "your going to pay for all this !!!!"
Fire pushed him off then bucked him in the face when he jumped at him again sending the creature flying into the cave wall knocking it unconscious.
He picked him self up and began to search for him again. A few feet away he could hear something moan and followed the sound with his ears. "Dad im coming" when he got closer to the sound he could see a pony lying on the ground not moving. Because of the darkness it was hard to see the condition he was in. Fire trotted to his father side and gently shook him with is hoof "dad p-please wake up" he shook him harder tears were welling up in fires eyes.
" F-Fire your ok" fire picked him up and placed him on his back slowly to avoid hurting him. "Hold on im taking you to the hospital but i need to find rainbow first."
As he trotted out of the cave he saw rainbow dash fly over to him "hey fire their gone where did -" rainbow gasped when she saw blue dawn on her colt friends back and bleeding from his side fighting to stay conscious.
"Is he going to be ok" rainbow asked " i-i don't know We need to get him to the doctor immediately" without wasting anymore time they took off in the direction of ponyville hospital.
As he sat there in the waiting
Room with rainbow dash it felt like the longest three hours of his life not knowing if his father would make it. He felt sick to his stomach from all the worry that consumed his thoughts. Rainbow dash put an arm around fire to calm him when she saw how agitated he was. Fire smiled briefly at this and closed his eyes as he felt her warmth.
"Excuse me is the fire bolt and.....rainbow dash." The two looked up at a doctor in front of them who was holding a clip board in his right hoof. "Yeah thats us" answered rainbow dash.
"Hello I'm doctor heart strum." He said as he put out a hoof for fire to shake. Fire looked at him concerned "is he going to be ok"
"he'll be fine however he has suffered some internal injuries although its not life threatening he"ll need to have some surgery done and we'll also need to keep him here for few months before he recovers fully he should wake up by tomorrow you can come see him then if you'd like.
A wave of relief came over rainbow dash "Thanks doc" "yes thank you" said the white pony.
"No problem just let know if you need anything" the two watched as the doctor trotted away
"Come on fire lets go home." Fire nodded and followed after her. He spent the night at her house since she didn't want him to be alone after what happened.
As fire lay in bed the events from earlier kept replaying in his mind and his guilt weighed heavily on him. No matter how much he tried he couldn't fall asleep so he decide to go outside to relax.
As Rainbow slept she reached a hoof over to fires side of the bed but woke up when she felt nothing. She then got up to search the house for him. When rainbow was in the living room she turned to the window on her left to see a white pony outside on cloud looking up at the sky.
It was a beautiful night thousands of stars filled the sky and a full moon Was out casting its light on the clouds below. The sight before him calmed him a bit but tears still filled his eyes.
"Hey whats the matter you cant sleep" rainbow asked after she landed on the cloud he was on fire nodded "Was it because you had a nightmare" fire shook his head. "No i just feel bad about what happened if it wasn't for me my father wouldn't be in such terrible condition ....this is all my fault.
"What are talking about how is this your fault" fire wiped his eyes then continued. "It was my idea to go camping and i choose the spot for us.
"Fire its not fair to blame your self you didn't know and you would never put any-pony in danger on purpose." The stallion let out a sigh "deep down i know you're right but i cant help thinking that things would of been different if i only suggested something else."
"Bad things can happen anywhere at anytime trust me on this and besides the important thing is that were alive and your dad will recover and he wouldn't want you to blame yourself."
"Yeah i guess" Fire looked down at his hooves "you can go to bed if you want ill be ok" rainbow shook her head " i want to stay here just to be sure plus i don't mind staying up with you its such a nice night."
Fire wrapped his arms around the cyan pegasus giving her a warm embrace "i love you dash." " i love you too"
Rainbow chuckled "now you're making me act all mushy" "what can i say im contagious." The two rested against each other till dawn enjoying the beauty of lunas night.
Rainbow fire ch 2
It was a cool autumn afternoon in ponyville. The leaves were beginning to change color and their beauty were enjoyed by Rainbow and fire who were on their way to twilights so rainbow can check out the latest daring doo book
or at least thats what the cyan mare wanted him to believe. Today was a special day as it was fire bolts first birthday in ponyville and since it was his first birthday with rainbow dash she wanted to make sure that it was one he'd always remember.
rainbow decided to start the day by taking fire to clouds dale to eat at her favorite restaurant where they enjoyed a nice breakfast together.
afterwards rainbow took fire to see the wonder-bolts since he's never been and had always wanted to go. fire watched in amazement at the stunts the ponies had performed. He saw the wonder bolts do tricks that he had never seen before and a few he would dare not try.
Then the two raced each other from noon to evening. Both of them had exhausted them selves and Fire was ready to call it a day but the mare had other plans.
As they trotted to twilights giving there wings much needed rest the white pegasus let out a soft yawn to which rainbow dash giggled.
"Tired already fire"
he turned to rainbow and gave her a smile.
"Yes i guess you can say that" he let out another yawn before continuing. "I could really use a nap right about now."
"Dont fall asleep on me now i still have a few more things for us to do."
"Oh rainbow you dont have to trouble yourself any further you've done so much already"
"Its no trouble... i just want your first birthday in ponyville to be the most awesome."
He stopped and put a hoof on her shoulder causing her to stop as well
"And it is.... especially since its with you"
He leaned forward giving her a kiss causing her to blush.
"Jeez you sure like to get all mushy"
The stallion smirked "yeah but i only do it for you my little dashie" he said teasing her.
Rainbow looked around praying that no pony heard that then decided to change the subject.
"So what did you think of the wonder-bolts "
"They were amazing ! ! far better than i expected.... when i was little i always wanted to see them but i never got the chance."
She looked at him confused "really i always figured most parents have taken their children to see them at least once."
Fire frowned looking down at the road as he trotted "mine didn't"
Wanting talk about something else he decided to ask her a question "so rainbow why are we going to twilights again?"
"To check out the new daring doo book remember.... i said that like three times today" she said giving him a bit of an annoyed look.
"Oh im sorry.... my memory is a little weak when im tired" a moment later he realized something "well since your going to check out a book maybe i can find the book i need for my report."
"Yeah she should have it.... So anyway hows school going" the mare asked.
"Its good not swamped in home work just yet."
"You said you're studying to be a veterinarian." He nodded "yes i always loved helping sick animals it would be my dream to do it professionally"
They trotted a little further until finally reaching twilights home. Rainbow went up to the door and knocked. There was no response. She knocked again but still nothing.
" i guess she isnt home maybe we should-" but before he could finish he was interrupted by rainbow who had opened the door. The two stared at blackness inside.
"Nah she's probably upstairs studying cmon lets go". Fire stood there in place refusing to go in. "It sure is dark in there i-i cant see anything."
Rainbow face hoofed "you're not seriously scared of the dark are you?."
"Oh uh no of coarse not" rainbow sighed and walked in with fire who stayed very close to her as he entered the dark library.she could feel the stallion beside her shake.
"Calm down you're gonna be fine."
"I know Im just a little cold"
Suddenly the lights turned on revealing the other five ponies and spike "SURPRISE!" they yelled in unison.
The White stallion covered his head with his hoof but lowered it when he realized he wasn't in any danger he looked around the room and could see that his friends had thrown him a surprise party.
"Is this for me?" Pinkie suddenly appeared just inches away from his face "Well duh silly it is your birthday and rainbow told me you never had a surprise party before so i was super duper excited to give your first one"
"Actually i never had any kind of party on my birthday.
Pinkie looked confused "never not even once"
"No" pinkie pie frowned. The white pegasus turned his head and noticed a giant cake on the other side of the room and trotted over to it. "Wow did you make this your self"
Pinkie shook her head "no i got help from the cakes and apple jack." Taking a closer look he noticed that the cakes colors were red, orange and white. And smiled. "Hey those are the colors of my coat and mane."
"That was apple jacks idea" said pinkie the orange mare smiled "sure was but it was pinkies idea tah make it so big." She wasnt kidding as the cake stood a foot taller than every-pony in the room.
Tears began welling up in his eyes. "Thanks Girls."
"you are most welcome darling."answered rarity.
"Oh oh presents" pinkie ran to retrieve her gift while twilight walked over handing hers to fire. Spike looked at rainbow dash with a sly smile on his face.
"Hey dash i bet i can guess the gifts your all about to give to fire."
"No you can't" she said rolling her eyes.
"Sure i can its easy" "whats that suppose to mean" spike sighed "well no offense but when it comes to gifts you guys can be a bit predictable its basically the same thing each time."
"It is not!" Rainbow protested "Ten bits says other wise."
"You're on" replied the mare. Fire was unwrapping twilights present when spike leaned closer to rainbow and quietly said "she got him a book or something educational." Fires eyes widened with excitement when he finished unwrapping the present. everyone else rolled their eyes when they saw twilight give some pony yet again a book.
"I know how much you love astronomy so i got you starfield's guide to the universe" fire bolt looked at the cover and smiled "wow this actually a hard book to find" twilight nodded. "believe me i know."
thank you twilight i love it". As rarity trotted over with her gift spike whispered into rainbows ear again.
"She either got him a suite or something that goes with one" fire removed a fadora and a black suite with a red tie from a big bag. Spike face palmed "well turns out she got him both".
Rainbow sighed "lucky guess."
"Thank you rarity out of the ten suits you made me this is my favorite"
"Your quite welcome dear i know you'll look just dashing"
Everyone gave what spike had expected
Apple jack gave him something apple related, fluttershy something animal related like well an animal a pet blue jay to be precise and so on.
Spike looked up at rainbow giving her a know it all look "looks like you owe me ten bits" "not so fast you never guessed what i got him" rainbow said with confidence. spike thought for a moment "wait the wonder bolts are performing in clouds dale this week you took him to see that didn't you" rainbow sighed "never thought id lose a bet to a child" "well theres a first time for everything"
Twilight over heard their conversation and gave spike an angry look as she trotted over to him."spike are you gambling!!!!
"Uh.... no"
"Spike!!! What did i tell about gambling!!!" "You told me not to do it"
Twilight continued to give him an angry look "give it back spike"
"Ah come on i won this time "
"now spike." "Fine" spike said then gave rainbow her money back."
After the opening of presents the ponies
Went to play party games such as pin the tail on the pony, charades and pony version of twister. After the ponies and spike managed to untangle them selves from each other. Twilight spoke up wanting to introduce something that
The six had not done before.
"Alright every-pony i got something interesting for us to do". Twilight said dangling a pocket watch in front of her friends
"0h oh are you going to time how fast we can eat all the cup cakes in-" apple jack put a hoof to pinkies mouth allowing twilight to continue.
"Actually i thought it be fun if we did some hypnotism .... So who wants to go first" rainbow looked over to fire and elbowed him to go forward "why don't you go"
"Oh i-i don't know what if i do something embarrassing" rainbow dash rubbed at his shoulder "cmon it'll be fun"
Twilight nodded in agreement "yeah and don't worry were not going to make fun of you"
Fire bolt sighed and stepped forward in front of twilight "ok if you say so, lets do it" twilight began to dangle the watch in front of him. "Are you ready" she said. Fire nodded. Twilight slowly swung the object his eyes following its every move. Back and forth back and forth. His eyes got heavier after a minute Until finally he was out.
"So girls what should we do" asked twilight. A soft voice answered her. "Um maybe we can make him act like a puppy if thats okay." "Sure fluttershy"
The lavender mare turned to face fire
"When i tap my hoof you will become a puppy"
she tapped her hoof twice and his eyes opened. Letting out a bark he ran over to fluttershy and licked her cheeks causing Fluttershy to giggle and rub at his mane. As she did so fire rolled on his back and the yellow mare began to rub at his chest "my you sure are playful."
Spike shook his head "This is so wrong"
Apple jack picked up a stick and began to whistle "here boy" waving it around fire followed the sticks every move with his eyes. Apple jack tossed it and he ran after it catching it in mid air. He ran back to apple jack dropping the stick at her hooves. The orange mare rubbed behind his ears causing him to wag his tail.
The girls giggled while spike thought about how weird his friends really were. Twilight tapped her hoof causing the pegasus to stop. An idea popped in rarities mind "twilight instead of making him act like something is it possible to make him relive something from his past"
"Sure what did you have in mind" rarity thought for a moment "how about when he had his first crush"
"Um i don't know rarity that seems awfully private" rarity turned to look at fluttershy "oh its nothing he would be embarrassed about besides we tell each other about the colts we like all the time."
Everyone seemed to agree but fluttershy still didn't feel Comfortable. to her it felt like reading someones diary without their permission. But before she could complain again she was interrupted By the tapping of twilights hoof his eyes opened again and he slowly made his way to the center of the room his legs were shaking nervously Along the way.
Fire stopped and it looked like he was trying to get some ponies attention. "Um hi cloudy" he gulped " i know we've only known each other for a little but i really like you and i think you're very sweet and kind and " he began to blush and i was wondering if you wanted to go with me to the hearths warming dance." Then a giant grin formed on his face "really you will ..... Sure i can pick you up at 7 ..... Ok ill see you then"
fire walked away beaming with joy "im the luckiest little colt" he said to himself. The girls awwed even fluttershy who still didn't approve.
Twilght tapped her hoof and he sat down with his eyes closed. "Well girls i think thats enough lets bring him back."
"Wait twilight not yet" shouted rainbow dash. "What is it rainbow."
"i was thinking can you take him back to like his 8th birthday or something."
"I guess so but why" rainbow gave a sad sigh "I'm beginning to think that he's spent a lot of his birthdays as a kid alone and i just want to see if thats the case."
Fluttershy gave the blue mare an angry look "so ask him when hes awake not like this " "he doesn't like to talk about his childhood fire always changes the subject when were about to..... I just want to understand him better" fluttershy nodded "ok i understand but let this be the last time". Rainbow nodded back. "It is".
Twilight looked at fire and began "you're 8 years old and its your birthday. After twilight tapped her hoof his eyes opened and started looking around like he was trying to find some-pony. "Mom im home... Mommy are you here". He then runs over to twilights sofa when something catches his eye "oh there you are .... Are you asleep?" He gently shakes twilights couch "i know you said never to bother you but i need to tell you something" he starts to shake the sofa a little harder. The look on the his face becoming more scared."mommy are you ok....mommy.... P-Please wake up. He continued shaking the coach then lowered his head onto a pillow giving a sigh of relief.
"She'll be fine her hearts beating normal." He looked to his left and picked up a small object in his hooves."stupid pills" he quickly looked around and hid the object in the closet. As he made his way back to the sofa something startled fire causing him to stumble. He got up and began to back away slowly his ears lowered and eyes wide with fear. "Hi dad hows-.... He backed away again his body trembling "whats wrong".... I-i didn't mean to it was an accident.... Im not calling you liar.... I-i do respect you"
he kept backing up until he was against the wall then curled up into a ball on the ground covering his head with his hooves. He let out a little whimper with his body twitching every few seconds
The girls had tears in their eyes as they watched him But they didn't understand why he was twitching, twilight gasped when she realized why. "He's.... He's beating fire" twilight's heart sank, rainbow was about run over to comfort him but stopped when she saw
The stallion get back up to his hooves. He looked up and started to panic. "No.... no not that please anything but that. don't put In there i cant see anything down there P-Please don't put me in the dark.... i'm scared of the dark."
The stallion began to sob "mom please wake up.... Mom" rainbow quickly flew over to twilight "make this stop i cant stand to see him like this." Twilight nodded and tapped her hoof the stallion closed his eyes and stood still. Twilight was so chocked up she almost couldn't speak. W-When i tap my hoof again you will awaken."At the sound fire opened his eyes and looked up at twilight. A frown forming on his face.
"Aww sorry twilight i don't think it worked hah uh maybe it'll work on spike." twilight lowered her head "no it worked" the Pegasus smiled "really so what did you have me do" instead of answering she just stood there her head still lowered. fire got a better look at twilight and noticed she had been crying. "Twilight whats wrong."
"Nothing im ok" "you don't look ok and why are you avoiding eye contact with me did i do something" twilight knew she should tell him what happened but couldn't she Felt terrible for making him relive something so painful. Fire turned to his friends and could see a look of shock and sadness on their faces. pinkies hair had straightened he knew that was a bad sign.
He shook as he looked back to twilight "i i didn't hurt you did i. Im really sorry if i did." Twilight was about to speak but was interrupted when rainbow dash flew between her and the stallion she hugged him harder than she ever had before.
"No you didn't ..... you did nothing wrong." Fire returned her hug. "Look i know you're afraid of the dark and im sorry for giving you a hard time about it." Fire let go and looked at her to see a tear roll down her cheek. Since he had known her this was the first time he had seen her cry.
"Hey its ok You didn't upset me. So please don't cry. He hugged her again but fire couldn't help but feel a little confused why was she acting like this? And why were her friends so upset?
"Girls what happened when i was- before he could finish he was cut off by a sudden group hug that came right out of nowhere. "We care about you fire and will always be here if you need us" answered the lavender unicorn. Fire felt completely lost. "Um thank you twilight but what happ-".
"Boy im hungry anyone want cake" pinkie said cutting off fire. Everyone nodded and followed pinkie. If he didn't know any better it was as if they didnt want to tell him what happened. To tired to care he decided to get some cake and worry about it tomorrow.
The next morning spike was walking through ponyville after just completing an errand for twilight and waved at the ponies that greeted him humming a happy tune to himself. Not looking where he was going he bumped into something. Looking up he saw it was somepony. "Hey fire whats up"
"Hello spike Nothing much just out on a little walk what are you up to."
"Just finishing some errands" then spike realized something about him was a little off and was giving spike a serious look "did you have fun last night spike" the dragon nodded "yes, and i loved the cake pinkies best work yet" fire nodded
"Yes it was marvelous indeed and i loved the the party games speaking of which what did you think of the hypnotism."
Spike gulped knowing full well what fire was getting at. " You Now that i think about it nopony ever told me what happened while i was out." He leaned in closer hopping spike would give him an answer.
"I ugh ..... Im coming rarity sorry fire i need to-" "spike i didn't hear anything"
"Well ugh thats because shes really far and dragons have better hearing than ponies." "Spike a week ago when we were at the park i called your name like 3 times and you didn't even turn your head."
"Well there was music playing and- "i was right behind you" "well ugh i ugh"
Spike was screwed and he knew it.
And just like that spike made a break for it unfortunately for him fire had quick reflexes he lifted a hoof and pined his tail to the ground and was running in place.
"Spike im sorry but i cant let you go not until you tell me what happened during my hypnosis." Seeing that he could not break free spike stopped running and sat down in defeat.
"Ok fine ill tell you" the purple dragon sighed and continued "alright well the first thing we did was we made you act like a puppy"
"That doesn't seem so bad"
"You ran up to fluttershy and licked her face then you rolled on your back and she rubbed at your chest"
"Wait what" "then you played fetch with apple jack and after you returned the stick she rubbed behined your ears causing you to wag your tail"
"Spike thats really weird" "i know right"
"Ok well what happened after that"
"Then rarity thought it would be a good idea to make you relive something from your past." Fire looked a little nervous "like what"
"We made you relive your first crush where we saw you ask a filly named cloudy out." Fire bolts cheeks turned red "spike thats really private". "Yeah i know are you mad"
"Im embarrassed but what else?"
Spike took a deep breath to calm him self then sighed "then we saw you relive your eighth birth day" shocked he let go of spikes tale and sat down on his haunches his ears flopping down. "You guys saw that" spike nodded fire let out a sigh "well that explains why everyone looked so sad last night especially rainbow i really wish none of you saw that"
Spike lowered his head in shame "im really sorry for what we did we had no right to violate your privacy like that."
"Its not that spike im worried your all going to treat me different i don't want ponies to feel sorry for me it makes me feel like im not normal."
Spike gave fire a warm hug "i promise i wont treat you any different and besides your better than normal."
Fire smiled and hugged the dragon back "thanks spike"
Fire let go and looked at the road ahead
"well i better talk to rainbow i can tell she is still upset about all this."
Spike thought for a moment "do you think its always a good idea to talk things out regardless of what the problem might be". "Fire was surprised by his words "of course spike if something is bothering you or some-pony else its always good to talk to them and try to work things out its never good to leave problems unresolved"
"Yeah i suppose, well anyway i better get back to the library ill see you later" spike waved good bye as he ran off. The Pegasus smiled as he waved back at the baby dragon before taking off towards rainbows house, on the way he kept thinking about what he said to spike and the more he thought about it he realized he could not leave things the way they were with his parents and knew he would have to face them
Fire landed at rainbows doorstep and knocked three times moments later she opened the door looking a little disappointed. "You know you don't have to knock i gave you a key"
"I know but i dont feel comfortable just walking in on you ill save it for emergencies."
"Well come in me and pinkie mostly pinkie baked some cookies" fire gave a confused look he noticed he's been confused a lot lately. "Rainbow you don't bake well aside from your hoof."
Rainbow gave him an annoyed look "haha very funny well i just thought id cheer you up" she flew over to the kitchen and grabbed a glass of lemonade. "Thirsty?"
He looked at her suspiciously "Why are you trying to cheer me up i feel fine?"
"I know, what i meant to say was that i just feel like doing something nice for you thats all nothing wrong with that is there?"
Fire took a seat and had a bite of one of the cookies that were on the table. "No there isnt .....but i know your doing this because you feel bad for me" the mare shook her head "i have no idea what your talking about."
"dash we need to talk" he let out a sigh and motioned for her to sit down next to him.
"Spike told me everything that happened when i was hypnotized" "he did?"
"Yeah .....look im sorry for not telling you and i know its not healthy to keep something like this to myself and since im your colt-friend i should have told you about my child hood instead of keeping this pain bottled up inside"
Rainbow looked up at him rubbing her hoof against his back comfortingly.
"don't feel bad I understand it must be really hard for you to talk about what those monsters did to you".
"Just remembering it is painful" fire added. rainbow began to feel tears well up in her eyes "what a sick bastard, what kind of pony would punch his eight year old son like that"
"He never punched me" he said shaking his head Rainbow feared the worst "what do you mean." "He would always use something usually it was a stick sometimes he would make go pick a stick off a tree and i had to make sure it wasn't to small otherwise he would hit me harder with it."
Tears rolled down rainbow dashes cheek "thats just torture what would cause him to do something like that." "My father was an alcoholic and also remember when i was a kid i couldn't control my fire power and i would get into a lot of trouble." "My mom was just as bad all though she never hit me she would always ignore me and when she didnt she would say how worthless i

Fire bolt smiled "Yeah remember my aunt and uncle they were very good to me they were the closest i had parents."
"Oh yeah i remember we visited them a a few months ago" fire nodded " yes they always knew how to cheer me up when I was down, they would give me presents even when it wasn't my birth day and were there to comfort me when my heart was broken i love them so much and one day they allowed me to live with them."
Rainbow scratched her head "and your parents were ok with this" "my parents didn't care they were glad i was gone."
Fire let out a sad sigh "but i knew i couldn't stay with them forever the older i got the more dangerous i became
So one day when i was 13 i left my home to live in the desert where i couldn't hurt anypony..... And also where no pony could hurt me."
She looked at him surprised "I knew you lived their for a while but 13?" "Yeah and i had to take care of myself as well and educate my self sometimes when i would visit my aunt and uncle they would help me with my math and would also convince me to stay but i turned them down each time i knew it for the best".
Rainbow sighed and put her arm around him pulling him close to her "I'm just glad things are better for you now."
He gave her a warm smile then took her free hoof and held it in his "Me too"
Suddenly his smile began to disappear "rainbow i know your not gonna like this but I've been thinking"
"about what"
He closed his eyes and gently breathed in."After spike told me what happened He asked me if its aways a good idea to talk things out with someone no matter what the problem might be and i told him that it was and that its never good to leave a problem unresolved"
"Yeah so what are you saying"
He breathed in once more trying his best calm his nerves. "On the way to your house i began thinking about what i said to spike and the more i thought about it the more i realized that the problem i have with my parents is something i cant just leave alone i have to face them."
The cyan mare pulled away from fire trying her best not to yell at him
"Are you crazy after what they did to you." She narrowed her eyes at him causing fire to be a little scared of her. "Im sorry but i cant let you do this im not going to let them hurt you again".
"Rainbow i appreciate your concern but im not a little colt anymore i can take care of myself"
She crossed her arms her anger growing by the second. "What do you hope to accomplish anyway i mean whats the point your mom is a druggy and your dad is a drunkard is anything your going to say to them matter."
"Its been so many years we don't know if there still like that maybe they changed maybe and i know this is unlikely but what if they regret what happened and they want me back."
Rainbow started to calm herself a little "are you sure that not just wishful thinking"
He shrugged "maybe it is but i need to know for sure but whether they changed or not they have to know that what they did was wrong and that i deserved better and that no child should feel unloved."
"Personally i think you should report your father he should be in jail for what he did". Replied rainbow. "I don't want to report him and besides i think it's to late their is a statue of limitations on this sort of thing."
"I know you think this crazy dash but i need to talk to them, even if they don't care about what i have to say i got to at least try I need to get this off my chest."
Rainbow dash knew there was no point in arguing any further his mind was made up and there was no changing it
"Fine but im not letting you do this alone
Ill be there if you need me" fire smiled "thanks rainbow this means a lot to me"
Rainbow sighed and rubbed her hooves together nervously "im sorry if im being a little over protective its just that i care about you and i want you to be safe Because i you know" "its because you love me" he said giving her a dreamy smile.
"Yeah i do" she said smiling back fire leaned in and gave her a kiss on the cheek. "I love you too"
rainbow looked at fire giving him a smirk
"Oh and by the way some-pony would have to be on drugs to think your ugly
Your actually really handsome" fire shook his head and reached out to grab another cookie. "Nah I'm what they call man-pretty" Rainbow rolled her eyes at him. "Your so weird"
Fire nodded in agreement as he was chewing on more cookies "hmm hm got any milk?" He said with his mouth full.
Later that evening the two were on their way to his parents house as rainbow dash flew alongside fire she noticed that he hadn't said much of anything since they left her house. When she looked at him she could see that he was very nervous. Maybe even scared. "Hey are you alright"
Fire put on a fake smile "yeah sure"
After flying for a few minutes He pointed at a house to rainbows left "thats it right there"
The two landed at the door step with rainbow dash waiting patiently on fire to make a move. He stood their staring at the door bell his heart beating so hard it felt as if it were to leap out of chest. He slowly lifts his hoof to ring the bell and shook as he did so.
He stopped when he felt a hoof gently rub his back. "You know you don't have to do this right now we can come back when your ready"
He narrowed his eyes and gave rainbow a determined look "no its now or never" he rang the door bell and waited
Moments later the door opened revealing a light gray stallion with a black mane."hello how can i " he froze as he looked at the white pony in front of him "fire is....is that you"
"Hi dad" he said sadly refusing to look at him directly while rainbow stared right at him with a look of hate in her eyes
"Im glad your here fire ..... i never thought id see you again p-please come in"
As fire trotted inside he noticed that his father seemed different and did he just say he was glad that fire had shown up. Fire and rainbow dash followed him to the living room and sat on the couch
His father sat on the sofa across from them there was a brief moment of silence before his father spoke "So how are you doing how have you been all these years." "Fine just fine"
"Its really is good to see you again and who may i ask is this young lady"
"Oh this is rainbow dash shes my mare friend" his father smiled and put his hoof out for her to shake "its nice to meet you my name is blue dawn" rainbow dash glared at him refusing to shake his hoof
"Hi" she said with a bit of an attitude. He thought about asking her what was wrong but decided against it he didnt want to make her worse.
"Dad you seem different" he paused and and got a better look at his surroundings "also this place looks really nice i can tell you've put in a lot of work into this room.
Blue dawn smiled at his sons observation "ever since my heart attack a year ago a lot of things have changed...... First off i quit drinking it was why i had my heart attack in the first place that and my stress..... Your mother was really worried about me i didn't think she cared about me anymore but she did it caused her to stop taking those pills and after i left the hospital she did what she could to help me recover." He sighed then continued
"i was so moved by her kindess that she became part of the reason why i quit drinking we grew closer to each other and i loved her more than i ever did before. Then i began thinking about how i treated you" he lowered his head feeling both shame and guilt hit him all at once.
"Dad what you did was wrong and-"
Your right i was terrible and you deserved better you deserved a loving and caring father. I should have been a pony that you could look up to one who you could love and knew loved you back and it breaks my heart every day knowing you never had that father and for that i am truly truly sorry.... i don't expect you to forgive me i just want you Know. And i intend to make it up to you.... that is if you'll let me.
Fire tried to hold back his tears but it was no use "yeah i guess i-"
Before he could finish the front door opened interrupting fire, a mare with a dark blue mane and light blue coat walked in holding a bag of groceries.
"Hi honey im sorry but there weren't any walnuts perhaps-" her groceries fell to the floor when she saw him. She felt tears sting her eyes as she slowly trotted over to her son she felt like something knocked the air right out of her..... she stood there for a moment and said the first thing that came to mind. "I-I really missed you. she leaned in to hug him but fire backed away quickly . It hurt her so much to see him do that but she couldn't blame him.
"Hi mom" fire could see that what he did upset her and felt guilty for doing so "look Im sorry im just not ready for that yet" she gave him a sad smile "its ok i understand" fire looked at her and wondered "mom did you really miss me" she wiped her eyes and nodded "yes i did .... how have you been and is there anything i could get you" "I've been good and its ok i don't need anything thank you" his mom turned to see the cyan pegasus next to him "hello and who might you be?."
Rainbow glared at her "my name is rainbow dash im a good friend of your son" She said giving her a cold look causing fires mother to take a step back.
"its nice to meet you my name is cloud shine oh and by the way i was about to make dinner i would love it if you and rainbow dash joined us". Fire smiled and knew that she was being sincere.
"Yes we would love to join you" rainbow dash was starting to get increasingly agitated "fire can i speak to you in private."
"Um ok sure .....please excuse us." They walked into the kitchen and closed the door behind them. "What is it dash" he said giving her a concerned look. "look i know this means a lot to you and i know they seem nice but-" "but you don't trust them." Rainbow lowered her head "no i don't..... i mean they seem a little too nice its like they are putting on act"
The white stallion took a moment to think about what she said "i can see why your suspicious i mean seeing them act like this is kinda strange for me ....but i know there not faking I've seen them do that so id be able to tell and besides what would they gain."
"Yeah i hope your right but dont let your guard down i don't want you to get hurt."
"I wont let myself be hurt and ill feel better knowing that your here." Rainbow dash smiled "Like i said ill always be here if you need me."
Fire opened the kitchen door slightly and could see his parents talking "we better get back out there we don't want be rude."
As the couple walked back into the living room his parents ended the conversation and looked over at the two
With excited expressions. " Fire Me and your mother have been talking and we came up with a wonderful idea"
"Like what" fire answered "well i thought that we could spend some quality time together and do all the things you wanted to do with me and your mother when you were younger like we could go fishing what do you say."
Fire thought for second and began to like the idea it would allow them to get to know him better and make new memories and his relationship with his parents would improve for the better.
"Sure but only if rainbow dash is allowed to come." His mom nodded in agreement "well of course she can i would love to get to know her better speaking of which how did you two meet."
Fire went on to tell them about not only how they met but also a little about rainbow dash and why he liked her. He also told them about himself and his dreams of becoming a veterinarian.
Later they had dinner in the dinning room and to fires surprise it was absolutely delicious he never knew his mom could cook like this or at all for that matter. Later that night they continued to converse and even shared a few laughs. Fire was happy and relieved that his parents had accepted him and that everything turned out ok. Rainbow dash however was still skeptical and wasn't about to let her guard down.
After having finished her fruit salad rainbow let out a small yawn "well we should probably get going." Fire looked at the clock over on wall in front of him
"Yes im afraid we should and thank you for dinner it was amazing."
"Your welcome" she replied "hey mom i was wondering if you could teach me how to cook .....if you don't mind that is." "Of course i don't mind plus it would be nice have someone to cook with"
"Thats good .... let me help you clear the table" fire got up and grabbed a few plates and balanced them On one hoof then he trotted over to the kitchen sink. His mom did the same and followed after. Leaving rainbow and fires father by themselves As they began washing the dishes He could sense that something was bothering her when he turned to look at her he noticed a tear roll down her cheek. "Mom whats the matter"
"Don't call me mom ! ! " fire flinched at her sudden out burst "i dont deserve to be called that...... There were So many times when you needed me and i wasn't there. I remember this one night when you were six you came to me saying you had a bad dream you looked scared and i told you to stop acting like baby when i should have comforted you.
"That was a along time ago i already forgot about it" fire lied hopping she'd feel better. "But i still remember and i feel terrible.... i- I'm sorry .....for everything." A Part of him wanted to forgive her he wished he could just go up to his mom and give her a big hug and say that he loved her but fire couldn't bring himself to do so.
"But your here for me now and thats what matters i cant tell you how happy you and dad made me tonight it meant so much." Cloud shine wiped her eyes and Smiled sadly at her son "I'm glad .....i love you"
"I know" uh common fire say you love her back she needs to hear it from you.... don't be such a jerk". Fire thought scolding himself.
Meanwhile rainbow dash was waiting patiently in the dinning room for her colt friend to finish up "so rainbow your on the weather team you know i use
to-" she cut him off and moved closer her face only inches away from his
"you may have fire buying this good parent act but i don't so let me make something perfectly clear.... If you say or do anything i don't like if you hurt fire in any way ill make sure you'll live to regret it and that goes for cloud shine too.....do you understand !"
The stallion before her shook nervously then spoke after she backed away from him. "Yes i understand but i promise that you have nothing to worry about i just want to spend time with my son."
"That better be true for your sake" moments later the kitchen door opened and fire was ready to take rainbow home. "Well ill see you later and about the fishing trip how about this saturday." "Sounds good" his father replied.
They trotted with rainbow and fire to the front door to say their goodbyes and waved as they flew off into the night. On the way to rainbows home fire was relatively quiet. "Hey why the long face i thought you had a good time" rainbow dash said after she noticed he hadn't said anything since they left.
" Oh i did Its just when i was in the kitchen with my mom she was feeling guilty about how she wasn't there for me she apologized but i couldn't forgive her she said she loved me but i couldn't say it back my parents were so nice and i can see that they care but i still cant let it go because I'm still hurt by what they did." Fire sighed "why cant i just let it go i feel so rotten."
"Your not rotten you've been through a lot and despite that your still willing to give them a second chance which is something i don't think they deserve."
"Dash i know you dont like them but try to be nice.... Please." "Fine ill try." Rainbow dash said reluctantly
Minutes later they arrived at rainbow"s home landing on her door step. "Well i better get going dash thanks for coming with me."
"Wait don't you want to stay over" the white pegasus shook his head "sorry id love to but i have things i need to do at home maybe next time." Rainbow trotted closer to him"hey no problem." She leaned in giving fire a kiss on the lips with her arm around his neck pulling him closer. They held the kiss for a few seconds before pulling away.
"GoodBye dash ill see you later."
"Bye" rainbow watched fire take off into the night and went inside when she could no longer see him. After she shut the door behind her she let out a sigh " i may not trust them fire but i do hope they've changed"
Saturday came and at about 6am a loud
Knocking was heard at rainbows door the cyan pegasus got up and trotted to answer it with her eyes half open and the urge to kill in her mind.
"Dude its like 6am" fire looked at his watch "well actually its more like 6:15 it took you a while to get the door" recognizing the voice she looked up and fully opened her eyes "fire.... just.... why"
"Well i did say we'd leave early" "i thought you meant like ten" fire chuckled "thats too late ....fishing takes a while so its good to be there early."
Rainbow gave him a confused look "we dont even eat fish why are we doing this in the first place." "Oh i would never hurt them its just fun to catch them and look at all the different types of fish we can find." Rainbow rolled her eyes "sounds like a great way to spend a saturday" "i know right" he said enthusiastically not getting her sarcasm.
Later they met blue dawn at the lake and he looked excited to spend the day with the two. Things went pretty well for fire. He had caught a dozen fish and also got to learn a few things about his father the two joked and laughed and by sundown they called it a day and went to his parents house where fire, rainbow and his mom cooked for several hours. fire liked how patient she was with him since he was still learning and in the end made some good tasting treats with his mother.fire had an awesome day which he would remember for a while.
Rainbow on the other hand did not have such a great time. The whole time she was fishing she had managed to catch only the most aggressive ones and sometimes getting smacked in the face when she would try to throw them back in the water. Cooking was just as problematic for her since she burned her hooves several times and also managed to burn a cake some how of course fire was there to encourage her and offer her some band aides
All though she didnt have much fun she couldn't help but smile from time to time because she was happy to see fire have such a good time with his parents and rainbow was actually beginning to like them they seemed like nice ponies with good intentions who really cared about their son and also were nice to her even though she wasn't and as result began to act kinder to them.
After cooking with cloud shine they all had dinner together and ate the deserts they had made. "Well i have to say you three out did yourselves the desert was amazing" complimented blue dawn.
"Thanks" answered cloud shine and fire bolt in unison except for rainbow who sat their silent. They talked a little more and fire suggested they should go camping in the woods. All but one agreed. cloud shine had to visit a relative that weekend and couldn't come. at 11:30 fire looked at the clock and mentioned he needed some shut eye fire and rainbow thanked them for a wonderful day and trotted to the door to leave.
fire stopped and turned back giving them a smile a tear rolling down his cheek "mom ....dad....." "Yes what is it" replied his mother "i forgive you" he ran up to them and gave his parents a hug.
His mom looked down at him smiling "we love you" fire looked up "and i love you both." Rainbow started to get misty eyed she realized this was happening a lot lately. She trotted over and waited for them to finish. She looked over at blue dawn and sighed. "Im sorry for threatening you that one day i guess i had you all wrong." Blue dawn waved his hoof dismissively "its ok i understand fire is lucky to have some-pony like you who cares about him". Fire eyes widened "you did what". Rainbow dash grinned sheepishly.
On the way to rainbows house fire flew close to her side smiling. Today had gone perfect for him but felt bad that rainbow didn't enjoy herself he wanted do something to cheer her up she deserved it especially after being nice to them and apologizing to his father.
"Hey rainbow im sorry you didnt enjoy yourself today so tell you what tomorrow will do what ever you want." "Really, awesome" rainbow thought for a second giving him a mischievous grin "i got a few things in mind"
Fire gulped "like what" "well i can go for some pranking ive been meaning to get pinkie back" "um ok sure whatever you want." Fire scratched his head "listen im not doing anything tomorrow if you want i can stay over." "Great we can listen to some records and fall asleep on the couch." Rainbow said fire nodded at her "sounds like plan i guess your just as tired as i am" "pretty much"
Later the two did just that they sat on the couch and listened to sapphire shores for about an hour. rainbows eyes
Got heavy until finally sleep claimed her
She fell to the side resting her head on fires chest. Fire put an arm around her and rested his head on top of hers "good night dash." His eyes began to close slowly than drifted off to sleep.
The following week was a bit hectic for fire to say the least having not only alot of home work but a test to study for as well. He didn't get to see rainbow or his friends very much and rainbow was busy with her weather work.
They were both relieved when the weekend finally came and both were looking forward to the camping trip with blue dawn. It was a beautiful saturday and Fire was at his house packing food and other supplies until he heard a knock at the door.
"Come in" "hey fire are you ready" he heard a female voice say. "Oh hey rainbow im almost done." Blue dawn trotted inside and went over to fire "need any help" "no im fine thanks though" after he put a flash light into his back pack he zipped it up and put it on his back "okay ready"
"So fire do you know where were going" asked rainbow dash. "Yes theres a nice spot in the woods that i know about where theres a large water fall and a pond surrounding it. We can set up camp next to it and we'll have clean water to drink." Rainbow nodded "sounds great"
The hike through the woods lasted about 3 hours before they found the spot they were looking for and since they were carrying a lot of things in their back packs they had to trot there instead. Finally when they arrived Rainbow dash looked around and took in a deep breath then exhaled. Fire trotted over to her "well isn't it beautiful. Rainbow smiled "yeah its pretty cool so can you help me set up the tent." The white pegasus nodded "sure thing." After the three set up the tents they set out to look for some food.
They picked all sorts of berries and put them into their saddle bags they also took a few pictures at some of the scenery. After several hours The sun began to set blue looked up and noticed it was getting late. "Well thats enough for now we should probably head back and get a fire going." Rainbow yawned "yeah plus im bushed" she said while she leaned her head against fires shoulder *crack*
Fires head popped up "hey guys did you hear that" "hear what" rainbow asked shutting her eye lids *crack* *growl* her eyes shot open then quickly turned to look behind her. "Uh guys" the two stallions turned their heads and gasped when they saw what approached them.
a large pack of wolves with glowing red eyes began to surround them. Going in circles preparing for the attack. "Fire cant you do something."asked rainbow dash feeling a bit intimidated. "I cant talk to them They're not normal its not just their eyes something about them is very disturbing . Rainbow gulped "i was afraid you'd say that."
Just as they were about to fly away one of the creatures suddenly leapt at fire swiping a claw at him. Right before it could rip into his flesh Rainbow dash punched the beast straight in the mouth sending it flying into a tree. At this the wolves all charged at once. Leaping into the air towards the pegasi.
"Come on we can take them" yelled rainbow dash fire nodded and jumped forward into the air knocking out a few that charged him. While rainbow dash took out a few of her own . His dad managed to keep a few away but had some trouble catching his breath.
After knocking out another fire noticed he couldn't see his father. "Dad where are you" "aghh" looking in the distance fire could see his father get dragged off into a cave by an angry wolf. "Dad im coming." The white stallion flew as fast he could towards the cave hoping to save him in time. Fire stopped at the entrance for a brief moment staring at the darkness in front of him.
"Ahhh!!!" Hearing his father scream again he galloped inside "dad where are you." At the end of the cave he could see a pair of red eyes stare back at him. The beast caught side of fire and charged in his direction. Fire managed to block his attack pushing it off to the side.
The creature disappeared from view then jumped at fire from behind catching the pegasus off guard. As the wolf wrestled him to the ground the beast raised his paw to swipe at his chest but got the stallions forearm instead when he blocked it.
The pegausus narrowed his eyes at the beast "your going to pay for all this !!!!"
Fire pushed him off then bucked him in the face when he jumped at him again sending the creature flying into the cave wall knocking it unconscious.
He picked him self up and began to search for him again. A few feet away he could hear something moan and followed the sound with his ears. "Dad im coming" when he got closer to the sound he could see a pony lying on the ground not moving. Because of the darkness it was hard to see the condition he was in. Fire trotted to his father side and gently shook him with is hoof "dad p-please wake up" he shook him harder tears were welling up in fires eyes.
" F-Fire your ok" fire picked him up and placed him on his back slowly to avoid hurting him. "Hold on im taking you to the hospital but i need to find rainbow first."
As he trotted out of the cave he saw rainbow dash fly over to him "hey fire their gone where did -" rainbow gasped when she saw blue dawn on her colt friends back and bleeding from his side fighting to stay conscious.
"Is he going to be ok" rainbow asked " i-i don't know We need to get him to the doctor immediately" without wasting anymore time they took off in the direction of ponyville hospital.
As he sat there in the waiting
Room with rainbow dash it felt like the longest three hours of his life not knowing if his father would make it. He felt sick to his stomach from all the worry that consumed his thoughts. Rainbow dash put an arm around fire to calm him when she saw how agitated he was. Fire smiled briefly at this and closed his eyes as he felt her warmth.
"Excuse me is the fire bolt and.....rainbow dash." The two looked up at a doctor in front of them who was holding a clip board in his right hoof. "Yeah thats us" answered rainbow dash.
"Hello I'm doctor heart strum." He said as he put out a hoof for fire to shake. Fire looked at him concerned "is he going to be ok"
"he'll be fine however he has suffered some internal injuries although its not life threatening he"ll need to have some surgery done and we'll also need to keep him here for few months before he recovers fully he should wake up by tomorrow you can come see him then if you'd like.
A wave of relief came over rainbow dash "Thanks doc" "yes thank you" said the white pony.
"No problem just let know if you need anything" the two watched as the doctor trotted away
"Come on fire lets go home." Fire nodded and followed after her. He spent the night at her house since she didn't want him to be alone after what happened.
As fire lay in bed the events from earlier kept replaying in his mind and his guilt weighed heavily on him. No matter how much he tried he couldn't fall asleep so he decide to go outside to relax.
As Rainbow slept she reached a hoof over to fires side of the bed but woke up when she felt nothing. She then got up to search the house for him. When rainbow was in the living room she turned to the window on her left to see a white pony outside on cloud looking up at the sky.
It was a beautiful night thousands of stars filled the sky and a full moon Was out casting its light on the clouds below. The sight before him calmed him a bit but tears still filled his eyes.
"Hey whats the matter you cant sleep" rainbow asked after she landed on the cloud he was on fire nodded "Was it because you had a nightmare" fire shook his head. "No i just feel bad about what happened if it wasn't for me my father wouldn't be in such terrible condition ....this is all my fault.
"What are talking about how is this your fault" fire wiped his eyes then continued. "It was my idea to go camping and i choose the spot for us.
"Fire its not fair to blame your self you didn't know and you would never put any-pony in danger on purpose." The stallion let out a sigh "deep down i know you're right but i cant help thinking that things would of been different if i only suggested something else."
"Bad things can happen anywhere at anytime trust me on this and besides the important thing is that were alive and your dad will recover and he wouldn't want you to blame yourself."
"Yeah i guess" Fire looked down at his hooves "you can go to bed if you want ill be ok" rainbow shook her head " i want to stay here just to be sure plus i don't mind staying up with you its such a nice night."
Fire wrapped his arms around the cyan pegasus giving her a warm embrace "i love you dash." " i love you too"
Rainbow chuckled "now you're making me act all mushy" "what can i say im contagious." The two rested against each other till dawn enjoying the beauty of lunas night.
