~ Prologue ~
Here I am lying in this musty old coffin again, hiding away from Celestia’s sun. Just a single encounter with those rays of ultraviolet could leave me as a pile of ash. My wings are enveloped around me, providing me with a small amount of comfort. This damn curse has left me with nothing more to live with. It drives me to seek people out for the crimson nectar that runs throughout their veins. For as long as I can remember my heart could not beat. There is a void that is growing in my heart every passing day...
I met her in a small playground about nine years ago. She is my best and only friend, the only person I have ever confided in. Her short mane holds every radiant color in the rainbow. She is the most amazing mare that I have ever met. I don’t deserve her and I never will...

A naive young mare lies at my feet with two small puncture wounds with faint drops of blood around the wounds. Guilt had started well up inside of me at the thought of what I had done to her. Even though I had bitten her the worst she would suffer is a minuscule headache, mild nausea, and a feeling that she had forgotten something. I flee after the mare’s wounds had stated to seal at an unimaginable rate.
I kept on running till I reached a solitary playground on the outskirts of town. The Moon’s ivory light broke through the clouds, revealing a beautiful young Pegasus sitting on a swing. Her rainbow streaked hair almost seemed to be glowing in the moonlight. When I saw her my eternally still heart seemed to have skipped a beat, this new feeling was so immensely surprising that I couldn’t help but let out a strained yelp.
She turned to meet my pumpkin colored eyes with her magenta orbs. Her sleek cerulean fur stood in contrast to my dull black as night fur.
“My name is Rainbow Dash,” She says with the slightest ghost of a smile. “Who are you?”
“Um... M-my name is... M-Midnight Fang.” I state with slow anxiety and a bit of a stutter.
“Where are you from Midnight?” Asks the small blue Pegasus in an inquisitive tone. “You seem like you are new around here?”
“I’m f-from the North Equestrian forest” I mumble just loud enough for the mare to hear. “I came to Cloudsdale just a few nights ago.”
“Oh, what’s it like up there?” She inquires in an unusually inquisitive mood. “It has to be like a huge obstacle course when you fly in the forest!”
“It’s actually kind of like an obstacle course when you fly up there,” I say with a light chuckle “When I first started flying I always used to hit the trees over and over.”
“Wow, that’s some real skill you got there” She said with her voice dripping with sarcasm.
“Like you could do so much better...” I retort with indignation in my voice.
“You know what, I’ll prove it. I bet you I can beat you to that rain cloud up there!” She challenges with a huge grin.
“Your on!” I proclaim with a competitive feeling taking over.
We became airborne and charged through the night sky straight for the blackened cloud that we had recognized solely as the finish line. I pushed my black feathered wings to limit as I attempted to overtake the blue filly who was far superior in speed. She is roughly ten inches ahead of me, her rainbow tinted lightning bolt was visible from her flank.
“Your gonna lose, Midnight!”
She flew through the cloud sending the pieces of fluffy vapor in every possible direction. I flew through the finish line seconds after her. I was truly enjoying myself, something that has always been a rarity. Ever since my birth everypony seemed to just want to avoid me. For the first time, somepony had ever acknowledged me...

Dear Journal,
Today, I met a mare named Rainbow Dash. She was different, when I saw her today I didn’t think just of sating my thirst. Instead I had fun. We had an amazing race where we pulverized a storm cloud. It was strange when we met my heart actually felt like it was beating. I think I’m going to stay here in cloudsdale for a while. I just hope my curse doesn’t effect the length of my stay like it usually does. I think I am going to like it here.. The clouds here are comfy and not nearly as chilly as the ones up north. I see a cloud where I can hide my coffin so the sun wont break through the cracks.
