The blue umbrella never leaves her side. I always see it on a day when the sun shines brightly, or even on days where the rain falls. The umbrella always manages to cover that beautiful mane and that perfect face. Her eyes were like needlepoints, puncturing my heart every time I see her. Her smile is full of grace and whenever she smiles at me, I feel like I’m being watched by an angel. Oh wait, I am. Her coat is as white as snow while her lush purple locks sway in the wind and bounce with each movement. She’s a real rarity. She’s the angel that I met the first day I arrived here at Ponyville. I was just a small dragon then and I was told that it’s just a crush that’ll go away in time. After four years, I’m beginning to doubt that. Every time she speaks to me I feel my heart pound and every morning when I see her open her window, I feel truly awake. I think that this isn’t just a crush. This is true love.
I like to watch her waltz around, humming the same song. The blue umbrella was always in her proximity. When she’s not around, I like to sketch her in my notebooks. I’ve never been able to capture her beauty on paper, but I’ve tried. I like to imagine us together intimately. If I could only tell her how I feel, but I can’t. She’ll hate me forever and I can’t do that. She has a little sister named Sweetie Belle who’s about my age, but I don’t like her much. I only use her to get closer to the angel with the blue umbrella. When I’m in their home, I sneak away and watch her twirl around with her various materials. She never sees me, but I like to hide behind her blue umbrella because it smells just like her. Whenever she turns around I like to stare at her perfect flank. Sometimes I’m put in a trance. I’ll attempt to look away but those beautiful diamonds enrapture me for hours. It makes me feel tingly inside. When it starts getting dark, I climb up on top of the neighbor’s house and watch her put away her umbrella for the next day. She stretches and wears something to cover her eyes after exiting the shower. To be able to see her bed, I have to move to the left exactly six steps. The average time it takes for her to fall asleep is fifteen minutes and twelve seconds. She’s just as much of an angel asleep as she is awake. Never once have I seen her snore.
When the clock strikes midnight I leave to go home so I can get up early enough to see her wake up. When I wake in the morning I skip breakfast so that I don’t miss my angel’s awakening. She always awakens around eight thirty, but I’m usually there by eight. I sit directly under her room and wait for her to open her windows. Sometimes I feel water on my head when my angel waters her plants. When it rains she doesn’t open her window, so I go home and try to draw her again until noon. Every day at noon my angel takes a long stroll rain or shine right before lunch. She always has that blue umbrella while she walks.
She always takes the same path every day, so I found a nice path where I can watch my angel without her knowing I’m there. I’m forced to walk through a junkyard full of broken glassware and sharp rocks, but I endure it for my angel. I silently make my sacrifice every day just so I can watch her. By now I’ve grown used to the pain, but it leaves scars. The walk usually lasts thirty to forty-five minutes round trip, after which I follow her to her favorite lunchtime cafe.
She likes to order two daffodil sandwiches and one hot dandelion tea. Sometimes, usually when she’s in a good mood, she orders a small plate of brownies. On extremely rare occasions she goes to Bucky Rogers’s restaurant, the best foreign food place in town. My angel always sits directly under the chandelier with the other Elements, usually for a birthday lunch or some other occasion that doesn’t really matter to me. On these special days she likes to wear her her mane up in a ponytail and wear an incredibly beautiful diamond necklace, along with a pretty robins egg blue dress. Next to her, the blue umbrella rests.
After lunch I go home and finish some chores that Twilight gives me and rush back to the Carousel Boutique. This is usually the time she gets her inspiration to make her majestic dresses, each one completely different than the last. Always more beautiful than the previous and infinitely more creative. She likes to hum the Winter Wrap up song the most and sometimes she even hums the song that I taught her a few summers ago. When she does I feel my heart explode. I like to think that we stole our new lives through blood and vain. My blood and vain causes her more happiness in an indirect way. My darkness sheds light so that I can illuminate her day. I love watching her wake each morning with a smile on her face.
Any time I see her frown or cry I always think that something inside me died that day. On a night where I don’t feel well I like to bleed myself while I lie in my bed, a picture of my angel in one claw and one of her dresses in the other. Blood freely flows from my wrists as I hum the song I taught her.
I haven’t felt well for weeks as I see my angel with another stallion now. He seems to make her happy, so I can’t complain. She laughs more and more and always has a smile on her face, but I can’t feel happy anymore. She left her blue umbrella outside her trashcan one morning, so I took it. I hadn’t realized it’s been seven months already. My angel is getting married. I’ve been invited to it, but I know it’ll kill me to attend. I have to go far from here with this blue umbrella in tow to remind me of her when I’m gone.
The blue umbrella never leaves my side. It always covers me on a day when the sun shines brightly, or even on days where the rain falls. My angel. My Rarity. As I walk endlessly, all that’s left are the scars and memories left from this blue umbrella.
