Chapter 9 (otherwise the damn chapter you've all been wanting me to make!)
3rd Person POV
Celestia sighed once more as she sat in her throne reading various reports from the investigation on her nephews disappearance. She may not wholly approve of Blueblood's actions yet he was family and she felt she needed to help him in anyway she could. Even with all his various crimes she couldn't find it in her to punish the arrogant prince.
Looking over another report saying the guards hit a dead end she thought back on the one pony that could have had something to do with Blueblood's disappearance. In fact she knew exactly who was to blame. Setting Dawn, or as he goes by now, Rising Dusk. Just thinking of the stallion who was once a colt she taught filled her with anger and grief but most of all, guilt. For she knew that what he had become was all her fault.
The solar princess was broken from her musing when the throne rooms doors opened to permit in her sister and the Element's along with Twilight's parent, Gleaming and Cadence. All of them looked downcast but Twilight also had this look of curiosity to her that for some reason made Celestia nervous.
"How goes the search for our, 'nephew' sister?" Asked Luna though her tone suggested she didn't really care for the stallion. It was true that she didn't consider him family and was actually glad he was gone though she would never say that out loud for it may be taken as her reverting back to her evil counterpart and may result in another 1,000 years on the moon.
"Nothing yet sister but I'm sure something will come up eventually. Now why are all of you here? It can't be just to check up on the status of finding Blueblood?" Asked Celestia curiously since she knew very few cared for her nephew.
Night Light then stepped forward nervously casting a glance at Twilight before looking up to her.
"I'm sorry Princess but Twilight has been asking questions and you are the only one fit to answer her." He said with a bow of his head already knowing he had messed up. A simple slip of the tongue and now everything they had hid from Twilight was going to be revealed whether they like it or not.
"Oh and what questions may you have for me my faithful student?" Asked Celestia to Twilight with her motherly smile after casting a a quick glare to Night Light.
"What did my father mean when he said you 'stunted my brother's growth?'" Said Twilight seriously. After the encounter with Rising Dusk she had heard her father mumbling about something and heard him say that particular phrase. She tried to ask him what he meant but said Celestia was the one to ask and that is why they were all here.
Celestia for her part was very uncomfortable and everyone could see the smile on her face was now forced but even then it was developing into a frown. She could have tried to lie but then Applejack would have ratted her out, and telling partial truth's would not satisfy Twilight and she would dig deeper into the matter for her thirst for knowledge would not let her rest until she had a sufficient answer.
So with a sigh of resignation she decided to tell the whole truth. She only hoped the lavender mare could forgive her afterwards.
"Yes Twilight it is true that I stunted you brother growth immensely, but not without reason!" She added at the end hearing and seeing the shocked expressions on the faces of those present save for Twilight's parents, Gleaming and Cadence who looked stoic for the most part.
"B-but why would you do that!? You were his teacher! Why would you want to stunt him!?" Demanded Twilight as she couldn't believe her teacher would do something so unlike her.
"Because he was a threat Twilight." Said Celestia coldly with a large frown now marring her face.
Twilight was quiet for a moment before she frowned herself and returned her teachers gaze with her own.
"Explain."
Looking conflicted for a moment Celestia finally lets out a sigh of defeat and looks down at the floor as she was unable to look her student in the eye knowing what her gaze would most likely become once she told her the reasoning for her actions.
"When I first saw your brother when he was four I saw that he held an immense amount of magical power much like yourself. So naturally I took him on as my student. At first it was amazing, he had so much potential! He took in knowledge like a sponge and was even able to improve upon pre-existing spells making them better than ever. A true prodigy rarely seen. I was happy to have such an amazing student, that was until I found out his true talent." Said Celestia nostalgically at first before running off into a saddened tone.
"What do you mean his true talent? In fact what is his talent?" Asked Twilight as she was wondering what could her brothers talent be as he had never told her before. Also if he was such a great student why did she try to hold him back from reaching his true potential. By the way Celestia spoke of him Twilight was sure that her teacher thought very highly of her brother.
"His talent.... was dark magic." Said Celestia without emotion as she saw the shock on the faces of those across the room who didn't already know beforehand.
"L-like Sombra?" Asked Twilight hesitantly. From what she remembered of her brother he was nothing like Sombra. Though at the moment there were definitely a few similarities yet she refused to think that her brother would ever become that monster. So she was relieved when Celestia shook her head in a negative.
"Not exactly Twilight. While Sombra gained his power through unorthodox means you brother's use of dark magic was all natural and therefore wouldn't corrupt his mind as what happened to Sombra. Yet the possibility of him becoming that tyrant was still present. I found out his talent for dark magic by complete accident when he unintentionally used a shadow spell with ease. I knew then and there with his potential and use of dark magic he could become even worse then King Sombra. So I decided to take precautions to ensure that didn't happen." Spoke Celestia in complete monotone. Yet she grimaced once she saw the angry look on Twilight's face as well as the disappointed look her sister was giving her.
"So you decided to hinder him instead of support him like a teacher should do? Now how do my parents and apparently my brother and former foal-sitter know of this?" Asked Twilight as she tried to keep her anger in check. She wanted to believe that he mentor was trying to do the right thing with her brother but she couldn't help but think that maybe Celestai was the reason for why her brother was the way he was now. He didn't even go by his birth name anymore!
"Cause she told us Twily." Said Gleaming speaking up for the first time and drawing the attention away from Celestia and unto herself.
"Yes dear you see Celestia told us the threat Setting Dawn, I mean Rising Dusk may present in the future and thought it best to tell us of her intentions. Naturally we agreed and supported her. Yet after that we could never look at him the same way as we could not believe such a threat could be our son." Spoke Night Light with his wife, Cadence and Gleaming nodding. This answer only served to make Twilight even angrier so Celestia stepped in to try and alleviate the situation.
"But then I saw you Twilight! Your potential was on par with your brother only your talent was for light magic, not dark. So I took you on as a student as well knowing that you could in the worst case scenario be a deterrent should your brother ever become the monster Sombra had become. It went well at first as I focused teaching you instead of him and thought his progress would slow. Yet when he showed that he had completed what I was planning to be your final test I knew that no matter what I did he would get stronger even if he had to on his own. Therefore I disowned him as my student hoping that the complete loss of the knowledge I possessed would stop his progress cold. However it seems it did little if any to slow him down given how powerful he has now become." Said Celestia with a little pride in her voice when speaking of Twilight only to turn sour at the end. She looked up hoping to see a look of understanding from Twilight only to be heartbroken when she saw nothing but a look of complete disgust and disbelief on her students face which was mirrored by the other elements as well as her own sister.
"So let me get this straight," began Twilight slowly but with anger clearly evident in her voice, "you saw my brother as evil just cause he had a talent in dark magic, told my parents and foal-sitter who then began to neglect him due to the new knowledge, took me on just so you could use me to fight my brother if the time ever came while also leaving him to fend for himself, and then cast him out when he started to learn on his own!? Well news flash Celestia the only reason he completed that final test was to gain your attention! I know because I saw the nights when he worked endlessly on it speaking of how it would 'let you see he was a good student as well.' And now because of you and those ponies I can't believe are my parents I've lost my brother!" Screamed Twilight in near tears as she galloped out of the room.
All of the other element's stayed just long enough to cast some hateful glares before leaving. Applejack shook her head in disappointment before she walked off to find Twilight. Rarity huffed while holding her nose up high, Rainbow Dash made a rude gesture before flying off, Pinkie had her hair straight and blew a mean raspberry and Fluttershy gave a brief look of 'the Stare' before going off with the others.
Only Luna was left and she had the most disappointed look on her face as she gazed at her sister as the solar princess tried to fight back tears that were threatening to spill. Yet when Luna spoke she could not hold them back anymore.
"She is right sister what thou did was truly a despicable act. Instead of preventing another monster from being made you may have in fact turned an innocent colt into the very thing you feared he could become. And thou called Nightmare Moon heartless." She said sadly while she turned and walked away but not before casting a hard glare at the rest of the Sparkle family and her 'niece' as she walked by.
Celestia for her part was quietly crying knowing her sister was right. Whatever evil that may or may not come from Rising Dusk was her fault. She made him this way just as she drove Luna to become Nightmare Moon with her neglect. Quickly enough though she wiped away her tears and looked at the remaining ponies who still looked unaffected by what was spoken but it could easily be seen they were to saddened by what had been said.
"Aunty, what do we do about Dusk now? I don't think we can count on Twilight and her friends helping us at the moment." Said Cadence while chocking a little when she said Twilight's name. Truly seeing Twilight so hurt and angry especially at her was a real emotional blow.
*sigh*" I'm afraid we must remove him before he becomes a threat. I have already hired some ponies to deal with him. If all goes according to plan there will be one less threat to Equestria. I only hope Twilight can forgive me in time." She spoke sadly but with conviction.
"You and us both Princess." Said Gleaming with the others nodding in agreement.
Yet none of them realized the maid standing by the still open throne room doors who had heard everything. Her eyes turned completely blue for a second before she began to walk off.
"I must inform King Dusk of this at once." She said before flicking out her forked orange tongue for a moment as she made her way towards her current quarters to get a message out to her King.
