Chapter Nine: Scattering
Previous ChapterNext ChapterA scream came from barrack 9 as Sebastian watched the orange explosion engulf the two Pegasi he had come to love so much. His scream wasn't alone. It was followed by the cries of other children who had seen the same. Their two little angels were dead. One of the woman in barrack 9 clamped her hand around Sebastian’s mouth.
“Shhhhhh…” She hissed, even though tears were streaming down her face. Explosion and cries from the other side of the camp could be heard. Sebastian uttered another muffled scream. He had seen enough death for one life time.
“Shhhhhhh…” The woman hissed again. It was much softer this time. Sebastian turned to her and buried his face in her bony chest. The woman held him close.

Derpy’s eyes fluttered open. She looked around. Everything was a blur. There was a storm. A big storm. There was mail flying everywhere. A pink and yellow pony was crying for help. What was her name? Then there was a forest, pain, dogs, screams, more pain. Tearing, ripping, endless pain. Then there was the pink and yellow pony again. Then a human. Then more. The soft voice of an angel echoed in Derpy’s head. BANG! The explosion. She remembered now. The explosion. The agonizing pain made since now. Derpy looked at her wings. The feathers were crisped. Her port wing was bent in a way wings don’t bend. The fur that had just grown back a few short days ago was torn off again. Derpy sank her head back into the ground and let out a cry. It hurt so bad. She didn’t dare look at the rest of her body.

Fluttershy opened her eyes. There was something not right about the way the world looked when she opened them. Why in the name of Celestia would trees be growing from the sky? The sky was on the ground. Discord? It had to be. Then the pain came. No matter how many times Discord had caused chaos, there was never this level of pain with it. Fluttershy struggled. Something had caught her hoof. A tree. She struggled some more. The tree let her go. The ground came racing up fast. Now that Fluttershy was thinking about it, the tree wasn't so bad. She yelped as other branches swatted at her face. They slapped her torn body and open wounds. She tried to extend her wings, only to find out the majority of them was charcoal. Another scream came out of her mouth. The thud of her hitting the ground silenced her. Fluttershy groaned and as she stumbled her way to her feet.
Derpy! Sebastian!
More pain shot through the Pegasi’s body. She had to find them. They could be anywhere. Oh sweet Celestia she hoped that they weren’t dead. They couldn’t be, right? Fluttershy tried in vain to lie to herself as she stumbled through the forest. She was guided by the screams and shouts of people from the camp, and the flashes of light from the explosions.
“I’m coming!” Fluttershy called weakly. It was all she could do.

Barrack 9 was in panic when they realized it was on fire. Anyone who had been inside ran out of there fast. In fact, anyone who had been in any barrack ran away. This was their chance. It may be their last. This could be the day they would finally escape this hell. This could be the day they would be free.
