Chapter 1:: A spell gone wrong'

It was just a normal day in Ponyville; everyone was playing or working and the fillies were outside enjoying what the day had to offer.

We turn your attention to the Golden Oak Library inside we find Twilight making a magical potion. A loud yawn came from the upstairs library slightly surprising the young mare. It had come from Spike who was looking at Twilight as she was mixing together some potions.

Spike spoke first, "what are you up to Twi?"

Twilight replied monotonically, "it's a potion that turns any animal into a different one."

"Wow that is amazing!" Spike said enthusiastically.

"I know right, and if you need a more accurate effect you need to add in a part of DNA like hair or a scale so you can turn into that animal."

"So what are you going to test it on then?"

"I was going to try it on Rainbow Dash, but I still need to work on the potion a little bit more and i’m not even sure where she is."

"I'll go find her." said Spike.

"Oh, Spike that would be very kind of you." Twilight responded.

"Okay I'll be right back."

"Thank you Spike," said Twilight as Spike left the library.

As Spike walked through the busy streets of Ponyville he was greeted with a welcomed surprise, Rarity. Rarity wore a wonderful dress; it was black contrasting and accentuating her alabaster fur, it had sequins adding an extra sparkle to her already luminous glow; Spike did everything he could to not fawn on her on the spot. She was always so beautiful, in his eyes, with her well groomed mane and her graceful coat that sparkled in the sun, the dress had a section at the end cut off showing her cutie mark. The only thoughts that ran through Spike's head were ones about what he would do to her if she loved him. He violently shook his head and snapped out of his daydream banishing the thoughts and kept going before they got the better of him.

Later Spike stumbled upon Dash; she was high up in a tree taking a nap.
Before he could think about it he yelled, "HEY DASH!"

Dash, startled, woke up and fell out of the tree rather gracefully her plot pointing straight in the air and her mane covering her face. Dash shot Spike an irritated glare and yelled, "SPIKE WHAT IN THE HAY ARE YOU DOING!" She flapped her wings once to lift off the ground getting right into Spike's face; that coincidentally had a slight blush on his face.

Timidly and trepidatiously Spike spoke, "Oh sorry it's just Twilight needs you test out this potion for her..."

"Why would I do that?"

Quickly recovering the tiny drake grew an equally tiny smile and said, "oh so you don't want to do it then?"

"No." Dash deadpanned.

"Well I guess I'll go back and tell Twilight that you were too much of a chicken."

He had struck her pride and without knowing she answered, "Too chicken, well we will see about that." Spike could only smile at how easy it was to manipulate the mare.

"C'mon Spike get on, like this we will be there in a second." Rainbow said proudly putting on airs for the tiny lizard, just to show him who's boss.

"Are you sure Rainbow, I don't think it's safe to fly to her, I mean I don-"

Dash grabbed him by the neck, threw him on her back, and then flew as fast as she could. Spike barely held on to her as they flew to the library. Spike braced himself for the worst as the approached at a breakneck speed. With Dash's hard attempt to show Spike his folly they, inevitably, crashed into the library. Dash went straight into the towers of books Twilight was using as reference material, which caused them to fall all over the library floor, and one of the many books fell into the potion. Instantaneously with Dash's crash, Spike flew into the air and fell straight into the potion. As soon as he fell in a big BOOOM rocked the whole library

"WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU DASH?" Twilight sneered.

"It was just a mistake geez." Rainbow moaned cracking her back from the impact.

"You have knocked down all of my books, now Spike has to put them back." At her statement quickly realized two things; one, she didn't see Spike anywhere and two; her potion was most likely ruined.

"Wait where is Spike," Dash asked first.

A voice came out of the pile of books that had fallen over where the potion had been, "awwwwwwww," groaned Spike.

"There he is," said Twilight rushing over to lumpy piles of books. "Hey are you okay Spike?" She asked with worry in her tone.

"I think so." Spike replied.

But what came out of the pile of books was a stallion; not just any stallion, but by the looks of it he was an Alicorn. As both ponies stared at the stallion with a green mane and purple fur, Spike grew unsettled underneath their pensive look. He nervously asked "What are you guys staring at?"

Both of them were speechless, and gave no answer so he went over to the broken bookcase.

"Well I think I'll get started with this mess." He said quickly looking over the books and planning how to arrange them alphabetically and by the dewy decimal system, blissfully unaware of the mare continuous stare. ”oh, look at these books. Dash you really did a number on the place. I mean it'll take me at le-" he paused attempting and failing to pick up one book. He peered down to see that his hand had become a hoof. "What is this," he said looking back up and down his own body, he could see that he had changed, "oh my god, I'm a stallion." Both ponies were still speechless. "Oh my god Twilight I am a stallion with wings and a horn." He began to hyperventilate while he poked his horn.

"But how could this be," said Twilight snapping out of her amazement. Looking around her room for whatever culprit turned her dragon into this hunk of a stallion she suddenly realized the answer, "It was my potion."

"Well do you have the cure?" Dash asked. She merely looked at the stallion that was once Spike.

"Yeah," said Twilight as Dash stood up from the pile of books. "Oh no," said Twilight as saw the cure had spilled all over the floor.

Spike started to freak out as he saw more of his new body. "Now what," he yelled with panic, "I don't want to be a stallion!"

"Can't you make more?" said Dash dusting herself off.

"No I can't, I ran out of the special flower I need to make it!"

"Can't you find some more?" Spike asked as he looked over his new wings.

"It's an extremely rare plant Spike. That was a present from Princess Luna herself!"

"So I am stuck as a stallion!" He wailed the repercussion came at him one after another. 'No more dragon flame, goodbye scales, my piano career!!' He spiraled deeper and deeper into his little hole.

"Don't worry, Spike. I'm sure she has some more we can use, I just have to ask her." Twilight stated nonchalantly.

"AWWW," said Spike as his eyes rolled upwards, "I don't want to wait that long." He was relieved, genuinely, but still he knew the wait would be exasperating.

"Don't worry Spike what's the worst thing that could happen."

"You just had to say that didn't you Twi." Spike stated stone faced.

LATER IN THE AFTERNOON

Twilight had told her friends of what had happened to Spike and what they should do. Spike on the other hand had been busy panicking since he could not use his fire to send messages to the Princesses.

"What a day this is going to be," he said aloud to himself, fully aware he was alone in the library. "Why can't everything just be like normal" he moaned as he glanced down his own body looking along his side at his wing, even in his current situation he couldn't help but wonder what it would feel like being able to fly like Rainbow dash or Fluttershy. He allowed his curiosity to win and went outside to try his new wings.

He went outside and looked around, noticing a few ponies just staring at him. He recognized two particular ponies as Bon-Bon and Lyra and went over to greet them.

"Hey Bon-Bon and Lyra, how are you doing?" He asked. Spike couldn't help but notice the glazed look in their eyes, looking off far into the distance. "Is it a beautiful sight?"

Both ponies snapped out of their daydream, "I'm sorry but do we know you?"

"Yeah you do," Spike had a devilish thought go through his mind as he made a new plan, they didn't know who he was; therefore, he could just pretend to be another person. The opportunity was just too great to be ignored and he may never have this kind of chance again.

"Yes, we met at the grand galloping Gala, don't you remember me?"

"No, I'm sorry but we don't know you; even though you do look familiar."

"I get that alot," Spike said quickly, "but how are you gal's doing; the last time we met was quite some time back and I don't remember it that well either."

"We've been doing just fine. By the way, what's your name mister?"

"I'm sorry I must have forgotten to tell you my name it waaasss..." his eyes quickly darted from left to right as a flame blazing in the light of day appeared just above his head, "Blaze… yeah that's right, Blaze is the name, happy to meet you both again. How's your relationship, it seems strong?"

"Thank you for your concern Blaze."

"It's nice to see ponies that are in love, but I do have a question. How did you two fall in love together?"
Both looked at each other then back at him, "It's kind of a secret, you don't want to know trust me!"

"How bad cou…"

"TRUST US!!"

"Okay, okay, you don't have to shout." Feeling he had stepped on some hoofs Spike decided on a strategic retreat. "Well I will see you girls’ later." he said.

"Ermm where are you going." They asked. It was a simple enough question something to sneeze at for any other pony but not Spike.

"Oh, I just got some business I need to take care of." He responded a basic deflection answering but still remaining ambiguous.

"Fine we will see you later, Prince Blaze." They both said in an upbeat tone.

"Wait... what was it you to just called me?" Spike did a double take on the conversation; they had for all intents and purposes confused him for royalty, right?

"Prince Blaze, aren't you a part of the royal family."

"No, I'm just a pony."

"But, what about your horn."

"As long as I've been a pony, I have always had a horn and wings, just because I'm an Alicorn it doesn't mean that I'm related to Tia and Luna."

"Oh, I'm sorry. We just assumed."

"It's alright, it doesn't matter right now, see ya." Spike said dismissively looking to the wild blue yonder and imagining the clear open air.

With that he took off into the air, it was surprisingly easier to fly than he thought. All he had to do was to make sure to concentrate on flapping his wings. From what he could tell the air seemed to flow with his body almost no resistance was felt between him and the wind. To Spike it felt like floating in a river and just going with the flow letting the current twist and turn in arbitrary directions following a set course yet he could decide how he got there, but even that sense of freedom did not improve his slightly spoiled mood. Feeling a little disappointed he flew over to a cloud and decided to take a break. Blissfully unaware of the long journey that would take place later on as he floated off into a deep and much needed sleep.

Meanwhile Twilight had just talked to her friends about the situation and what they should do and could only come to the agreement that Spike should go to Canterlot together with Fluttershy, Rarity, and Rainbow.

"Well does everyone know what to do?" asked Twilight.

“YEAH!" they responded

“Good. I'll get started on the potion while you guys bring me back the flower, Kay?” They all nodded in confirmation of Twilight’s plan.

“I'll go find Spike” Rainbow said, “Someone has to tell him the plan.”

"Okay, see you all tomorrow." Twilight started walking off to her lab getting started on the potion.
Still freshly awoken Spike still felt as weird as when he had become a pony, the whole thing just seemed strange to him. Today had been uneventful in the beginning nothing to note just beginning to help Twilight in her work and who would have guessed him offering a favor would get him in such a strange and complicated situation.

"Well no point in spending the rest of the day here." He said as he flew down to the streets. There were still many ponies trying to finish their daily schedules, and as he went down to a store he was instantly greeted by a bunch of ponies who suddenly bowed before him. He looked around and saw Bon-Bon and Lyra their sly and abashed smile betrayed their hand in all this. "Ermm could you mares please tell me what's going on?" he asked.

''Well we already told them you weren't royalty, but they didn't believe us.''

'This could prove to be a very looooong day.' Spike thought to himself.

"Well I'm not a royal of any kind, everybody you don't have to bow before me." Spike said in an authoritative tone he didn't know he possessed.

"You're not, but we all thought that since you were with Twilight Sparkle, and that you're an Alicorn you would be...” A pony somewhere near the back choked out.

"It's okay, but please stop bowing before me, it is making me feel a bit embarrassed ''

"If that's what you want" said a grey mare, "well what can I get for you kind sir?"

"Just some food that's all."

"Are you traveling somewhere?"

"Yes, I'm going to Canterlot, to talk to Luna." Spike was a patient dragon, given the standard, but even he wasn't going to sit on his hands when there was something to do, something he could do.

Everybody bowed again, "if you know Princess Luna you must be of a royal kind."

Spike went to a nearby wall and started to bang his head against the concrete. One thought crossed his mind. ‘Confound these ponies!!’
