Adagio For Chains
Adagio Dazzle has been arrested again. This time, however, things are different. No longer can she simply hum a little tune and stroll back out of prison like she'd just been visiting. Worse, her accomplices are starting to gain back what she'd stolen from them as payment to the "gem demons" in exchange for their power to compensate for talent that, in her youth, she had been too lazy to properly cultivate. In fact, it was this restoration that led to her downfall.
Tartarus Penitentiary was a rather interesting place, being one of its resident nation's two prisons. Built to house about 300 convicts and enough guards to keep them in check, it has remained all but desolate for untold years due to the relative lack of crime. Large sections of it had to be shut down because it was costing more to operate than it was worth, rendering what was once a dismal avenue of retribution into a palatial shell with all the warmth and charm of a tomb.
Then again, it was still far and away a better place to be stuck than The Moon, location of the other prison, a hellish solitary confinement for those prisoners whose presence posed too great a threat for Tartarus's other residents to hold them within its walls. Still, with its lack of facilities, Adagio was left with nothing to do but dread the visits of the girls she once called friends (and more recently idiots), deal with the scant few other convicts and guards, and mostly reminisce about the bad old days.
