Chapter 1 - Behind the School Building
Scootaloo stood near the school gates, waiting for her friends, Apple Bloom and Sweetiebelle. It was rather early, quite a lot earlier than when she regularly waited for them. This was because she had been staying up late and sleeping in so her parents made her go to bed early the previous night and get up earlier today. It was quite blustery outside and parts of her short hot pink mane and tail whipped her face and legs.
She shivered a little. How early did they make her get up? She usually got to school way after her friends, not the other way around.
She got an indication of the time when a carriage dropped two fillies off at the school. It was Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon. Scootaloo knew she was early because they were always there before everypony. She noticed something a bit... Off about them however, Diamond looked annoyed while Silver seemed quite scared. Though the expression on the pink earth pony's face changed to a smug look when she laid her eyes on the orange pegasus.
"Hey Scoota-loser. Your 'friends' left you out in the cold? Pffft, I can't blame them! Who would want to hang out with you?" She jeered.
Silver Spoon still seemed to be quite nervous and on edge. Diamond Tiara nudged her in the side with her hoof and she gave a weak grin.
Scootaloo was confused.
Why was Silver Spoon like this? Surely the grey filly would perk up immediately and jump at the chance to insult her.
She'd think about it later. Maybe she could talk about it with her friends. It would give them another thing they could say to make them leave them alone at the very least. But she had to get Diamond Tiara away from her so she could think.
"Please Diamond, leave me alone. I can't be bothered to listen to your pathetic excuses for insults." She sighed.
As Scootaloo had grown up she begun to ignore the bullies more and more. When she finally got her cutie mark, a black wheel with a yellow thunderbolt outlined in purple over the top of it, she had finally been rid of one of the things she was teased about the most. Combined with the fact that she had matured as she grew up and had come to terms with her disability, nowadays it was nothing more than an annoyance.
"Do you really think that we'll go away if you just say please?"
She carried on insulting her while Silver sat next to her with her eyes trained on the floor. Her insults fell on deaf ears as Scootaloo ignored them, away in her own little world while she waited for her friends.
After a while she gave up, leaving to go sit in a whole other corner of the playground. She could see Diamond hissing at her friend while the grey earth pony hung her head low.
"Hey Scootaloo!" Apple Bloom called out as she walked up to her. "Ah've never seen you get here so early before. Why's that?"
"Hi Bloom, parents made me get up early." She simply replied with a shrug.
Scootaloo went through the day as usual. Doing things like getting bored in maths class and joking with the Cutie Mark Crusaders at break. She was about to walk straight out of the school gate and go home when she swore she heard shouting.
She flicked her ears and peered over the corner of the building where she thought she heard the shouting coming from.
Standing there shouting at each other, were Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon.
Silver Spoon had tears running down her face, her purple eyes wide. Her ears were pressed flat against her head and she had shrunk back to make herself look smaller.
Diamond Tiara was the complete opposite, her eyes narrowed and full of malice. She stood above the grey filly and her teeth were gritted.
Scootaloo's eyes widened in shock. Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon were fighting? Sure, friends fell out all the time but this seemed...
Different.
Not a little row between friends, but a serious argument.
Was this why Silver Spoon seemed so off this morning?
She jumped back and hid when Diamond Tiara stormed off so she wouldn't be seen. Silver Spoon was left standing alone behind the school building. Her knees buckled and she fell to the ground crying. Scootaloo slowly backed away.
What were they fighting about? She had completely missed the argument. Why was Diamond so angry with the other filly? Questions whirled through her head as she slowly walked away.
She would ask Silver Spoon about it tomorrow if she had the chance.

Chapter 2 - Tears
Scootaloo got to school early like she had the previous day.
When Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon arrived they sat far apart, Diamond glaring at the other filly from her side of the playground.
The pegasus wanted to approach the terrified looking filly but with the other earth pony sitting there glaring at her she was scared to walk over and talk to her.
Silver didn't look to good either. Her mane wasn't in it's usual plait, instead it was messy and tangled, her tail was the same, like she hadn't brushed it that morning and it hung limp around her face. There were bags under her dull, bloodshot eyes. It seemed she had got little sleep, maybe she hadn't slept at all and she had obviously been crying. Her blue glasses were askew but she made no effort to adjust them and her necklace was missing.
Scootaloo was worried for the other filly, the fight seemed to be effecting her really badly...
No..
She had made fun of her throughout her life. Why should she care if she got upset over a fight? She had made her and her best friends feel way worse. Even if their insults barely fazed them anymore, their words had still stung back then, and some wounds still hadn't healed.
But still...
Nopony deserved to feel that bad.
Throughout the day Silver Spoon seemed to ignore everything. Not responding to questions or doing any work, just staring blankly at her desk or the ground. She made an effort to fade into the background by hiding behind her mane and staying silent. It seemed to work to, as her nopony seemed to notice. Only her and Cheerilee.
Cheerilee had tried to talk to her but to no avail. She wouldn't respond.
As the day went on Scootaloo grew progressively more and more worried for her. She didn't seem to get any better and Diamond didn't seem to care about her at all! Just talking to the other ponies, not even bothering to look at Silver Spoon if she didn't have to. Did she have no remorse?
That wasn't something a real friend would do. Even after a fight.
After school had ended, she waved off her friends.
"I'll meet you at the clubhouse later, there's something I need to do first." She had told them.
"Alright!" Sweetie Belle had chimed. "Hurry up though!"
She had agreed but she was unsure if she would be quick. Silver Spoon seemed to be in a pretty bad condition.
She approached the sad filly.
"H-hey Silver Spoon..." She ventured.
"What are you doing here Scootaloo." She mumbled, not looking up.
"I'm seeing if you're alright. You seemed pretty out of it today."
"Why do you care? You should hate me. I hurt you and your friends for years."
"I-I..." She was a little taken aback. She didn't really know the answer herself.
"What." She snapped, her eyes moving to look up at her from behind her hair.
"You just seemed so down. No pony deserves to feel that bad, no matter what they've done. A-and..."
"Hmm?"
"I saw your fight with Diamond Tiara. Well, not really, I saw you after the fight ended. I didn't catch any details. But it didn't seem like a little row with your friend. It was a big fight. I-I saw you fall to your knees... You were crying and... And I just... Feel so bad for you."
"You- What? N-No. I don't need your pity."
As she ran away, Scootaloo saw tears streaming from her eyes.
She sighed and headed over to the clubhouse. This would take some time.
Silver Spoon couldn't believe it. Scootaloo had seen her argument with Diamond Tiara. Or, at least the ending of it. At the very least she saw her crying.
Tears streamed down her face and her knotty mane and tail flowed behind her as she ran to her house as fast as she could. When she got in she didn't bother to shut the door. She ran up to her room and slammed the door behind her. She slid down it and cried herself out before getting up and sitting on her bed. She did her homework, had a bath to try to de stress herself the best she could and went to sleep, latching on to a stuffed toy as tight as she could.
Nopony came up to check up on how she was.
Not like they ever did.
