Chapter 1 the beginning of the tale

"Hello my name is the storyteller, I am a cosmetic immortal being that collects all types of story's across the universe and put them in my library. I have read many story's, legends, and myths. But of them all the story of the sentinel will always be my favorite. Allow me to tell you about the beginning of the sentinel. Ahem."

"The way of the sentinel is to protect those who need to protect, and strike those who dare hurt the protected. To stand your ground no matter the task, and fight to the death for as long as it lasts."

During the years a very powerful groups were created, one to protect and one to destroy. The sentinels. Each group was highly trained and very powerful. But over the course of history both groups fell, taking the others-."

*Poof*

Out of nowhere a glass of chocolate milk spilled onto my face. Apparently my cousin Discord still knows the magic seal password. Oh well back to the story.

"Now that introductions are out if the way let us begin. It all started when a new threat appeared itself, ah the trial is beginning now."

At the griffon kingdom, in a court

"all rise for the leader of griffons". A tall griffon said who stood to the right of the leaders desk.

Every griffon rose when a large griffon that was black and white came towards the desk at the end of the room wearing a red cape with green gems on the sides of it, when got to the desk at the end of the room. He sat down, like a trained dog every other griffon sat down.

"Bring forth the accused." Said the leader."

Like on command the doors opened and three griffons came in. The two on the right and left of the one in the center wore silver Armor and held spears. The one in the center of the guards was another griffon that had a scar across his left eye, had a black and white body unlike brown and white like other griffons. His arms, legs, and wings were handcuffed to the two on his left and right,and his beak had a muzzle on it. He looked down at the floor his hair drooped down as he walked to the stand in the center of the court room. When he made it to the stand he looked up to the leader of griffons and scowled at him with his yellow eyes glaring daggers at him. The leader returned the glare. For a split second it felt like an hour, the two glared at each other like a staring contest was going on. Finally the two went back to reality when the head griffon spoke.

"Attorney, please speak the name and crime of the accused." Said the leader still glaring at the griffon at the stand.

"Of course your honor. Name is gold wing, but prefers to go by ,Bloodwing." Said the griffon. The sound of the word 'Bloodwing' made the leader of griffons growl at the accused. To the accused when he heard the name he smiled like it symbolized something great.

"Crime is...oh my...um..."

The leader of griffons looked away from the still smiling griffon at the stand at looked at the attorney.

"Well, come on then what is the crime?" Asked the leader of griffons.

The attorney gulp and and finally spoke.

"Bloodwing is being accused of nearly declaring war on equestria." The attorney said sweating.

When everyone heard what was said they all gasped and started talking in wispers. The talking came to a halt when the leader of griffons banged his gavel on the table yelling "order, order in the court!" He yelled. When he said this everyone stopped talking and stared at the griffon at the stand. He still stared up at the leader and was still smiling beneath the muzzle. It was hard to see but the king knew he was smiling. Despite the muzzle he knew the griffon was smiling.

"Continue attorney." Said the leader of griffons.

"Of course your honor." He said stepping out to face the court. "Ladies and gentalgriffons mr. Goldwi- er, Bloodwing I should say, is being accused of almost declaring war on one of our very powerful ally's...Equestria. All I ask of you is to find Bloodwing guilty and sentance him to death for his crimes. That is all your honor." He said sweating. The leader could tell he was scared being next to the accused.

"Thank you attorney, you may be seated." Said the leader of griffons. The attorney made a sign of relief then bowed and returned to his seat. The leader of griffons then returned his stare to the accused. "The accuse may now speak to defend himself." He nodded to the two guards signaling them to remove his muzzle. They returned the nod and started to remove the muzzle. When it was removed the entire court could see that he was not smiling but frowning. He stood there silent for about four minutes or so. The leader of griffons was about to ask him to speak when Bloodwing finally spoke.

"Pathetic..." He said in disgust.

The court was shocked by the words he just used.

"All of you...PATHETIC! EVERY LAST ONE OF YOU!" He shouted, startling the entire court room. "I was trying to do something good for our country, and this is my thanks! To be put into trial! To sentence me to death! He shouted

"SILENCE!" Yelled the leader.

"No! I will not be silenced for my actions! Our race used to rule these lands! And now look at it! It has become a land ruled by ponies!"

"I SAID SILENCE, GOLDWING!" Said the leader of griffons this time with a more angered tone, while glaring at the accused.

"Don't you dare call me that. Goldwing is dead. I am Bloodwing!"

The leader stood up from his desk, wing spread out, glaring down at the accused with a face ready to kill.

"ENOUGH!" He yelled "I have heard all I need to here. You Goldwing are to be sentenced to death!" He said finally sitting back down and watched as the black and white griffon was dragged off by the two guards. When the Bloodwing was finally out of the court room, the leader of griffons sighed. He then said that court was dismissed. And started to head out. But was stopped dead in his tracks when he opened the doors to see the two guards that had escorted Bloodwing into the courtroom lying dead on the floor with their own spears jabbed into their hearts. The head of griffons rushed up to them to see if they were still alive. He checked their pulses. Nothing, the two guards were dead, a few feet away lied the chains Bloodwing was in, but they were detached. The leader of griffons called for guards. They came rushing in immediately.

"What is it sir?" Asked one of the guards who wasn't aware of the two dead guards until after he had finished the sentence. "Sir...were those two guarding...Goldenwing?" He asked a bit of terror was in his voice.

The leader shook his head. "No. No Goldwing is dead. This is the work of Bloodwing." Said the leader it was hard for his voice to say the last part but managed. "Search the castle, the city, everywhere find him, now!"

The guard made salute and ran off to tell the others. Once he was gone the leader walked down to his quarters. He looked behind him to make sure he wasn't being followed. When he was certain no one there he closed and locked the doors. He walked over toe the wall and pushed on a tile causing the wall to move. He looked inside to see a black thin long case. He unhitched the two locks and opened the case. Inside was a sword that had a gold hilt that had four large green gems on the bottom the top and the two sides of the sword. Next to the sword was a gauntlet that had the same color gem as the sword, but it had two instead of four. He picked it up and put on the gauntlet. He then walked over to the armory. There he on his steel armor and helmet. He knew were Bloodwing was, he knew of his goal and plan, the problem was he wasn't sure if he could stop Bloodwing, even with the magical sword.

As soon as the doors closed behind us, I sprang into action. I head-butted the guard to right knocking him down. The chain then caused me to fall down with him, and taking the second guard with me. Then everything acted like it was slow motion but didn't affect me. When the second guard was falling he let loose of his spear, I noticed this and grabbed the spear and before the guard could act I had jabbed the spear into his heart through the uncovered part of his armor. He gasped from sudden pain as blood started to fizz out of cracks from the stab. He was dead within seconds. When the second guard had fallen down and hit the floor I had fallen on the first guard. I elbowed him into the eye he hollowed in pain and let loose of his spear like the second guard had done. I swung my body off of him, tugging the dead guard to come flying with me as I grabbed the spear and jabbed the first guard in the heart like I did with the second. Blood oozed from his wound, he squirmed for a few seconds then died. I then took the keys off of them and took off my shackles. I then flew down the hall.

'Excellent.' I thought 'all is going just as I planned it. Now to get the list, my amor, the sword, and the gauntlet. And the best part, I know we're they all are.'

Once I made it to my destination I felt around the floor to see we're the entrance was. When I was over the entrance I smiled and flew up to the celling I then raced down to the floor and crashed it open. When I entered the entrance I was flying I a cave. I looked around to see we're my stuff was. I looked to my right and saw it. A thin and long black case, with a scroll on top, and a backpack on a rack next to the case.

I flew to the backpack and took it off the rack. I put it on and immediately the backpack covered my entire body with black armor all but my face was covered. Then walked up to scroll and stuffed it into a pocket on my armor. I then walked to the case it had two locks on. I smashed them both off and opened the case.

"What!" I yelled looking into the case that was empty. "It's not here!? Where is it?"

Suddenly I sensed that something was about to hit me. I dodged to the right to see a bolt of lighting had struck the wall of were I stood. I looked to were the bolt came from to see the leader of griffons holding the sword and the gauntlet in his claws. The sword in his right and the gauntlet in his left.

"You have no idea what you are holding right now." Bloodwing said

"I'm not fully aware of what I have Goldwing. But I know that I can use these to defeat you!" The leader yelled. The gauntlet gems started to glow.

"I thought I told you...GOLDWING... IS...DEAD!!!" I yelled

My armor created a mask that covered my beak. Then goggles that covered my eyes. Where my armor covered my claws two hidden blades came out and I charged at the leader. The leader fired a bolt of lightning from the gauntlet but I wasn't quick enough and was hit by it. The bolt threw me back to the wall. I would have been dead if it wasn't for the armor I was wearing. I quickly shook off the attack and flew up to get the jump on the leader. Because the ceiling wasn't lit I could hide on it and get the jump on the leader. But when he shot a lightning bolt at the ceiling it lit up for a brief moment. Realizing I was spotted I flew at the leader knocking him down and letting his grip on the sword become no more. I jumped off the leader and rushed to pick up the sword. But the leader grabbed my tail and threw me away from the sword. But while in mid-air I caught myself and flew at the leader. He tried to shoot me with a lightning bolt but I did not give him the chance. I threw him at the wall, I then grabbed the sword and walked up to the leader. Who laid on his stomach in pain. I saw that his wing and arm were broken. Once I got to him I stared down at the leader. I then looked up at the ceiling and shot a bolt at it, causing the ceiling to collapse. I flew out of the way and watched as the leader was covered in rock and dust. Once I knew he was buried I decided to be on my merry way.

"Now then time to see what I'm up against." I said sliding my claw into the pocket were I put the list in. But when I grasped it it felt warm. I took it out to see that the paper was burned.

"NO!!" I yelled. "I was so close, and now it's gone."

I looked at the paper carefully hoping to recover anything that was on the list, but the damages were to severe.

"Darn." I yelled frustrated. I was ready to tear the paper in half and torch it when something caught my eye. It wasn't exactly what I was looking for but it was better than nothing.

On the paper were three words that helped Bloodwing get closer to his goal.

"The crystal empire." I said out loud. "It must be the location for one of them."

"Freeze Goldwing." Yelled a voice from behind.

I spun around to see a guard wearing red armor and four other guards wearing gold. The red armored one along with the two other guards on his side had swords. The other two had loaded crossbows ready to fire at me.

"Your under arrest for the death of two griffon guards. Move and we'll shoot." He yelled. But I knew better, I could see it in his eyes that he was scared, no scared isn't the right word, terrified. He knew full well what I was capable of, but still stood his ground. Just like all us griffons, we are all stubborn. We will stand our ground to any threat that comes our way. I admired their bravery to stand up to me.

I turned around to face them and said,

"How many times must I tell you? MY NAME IS BLOODWING!!" I yelled the sound echoing through the entire castle. After I yelled the two holding the crossbows opened fire. Both arrows just snapped in two when the hit me. I flew at them with full speed. The guards holding the swords brace themselves for my attack but never saw it coming.

I activated my gauntlet to create a blinding green light. Once the light had faded there stood the guard in red armor with my sword on his neck. He looked to his soldiers only to see them lying dead on the ground. He turned his head back to me and frowned.

"What aren't you going to plead for mercy or something like that?" I asked him.

But he stood there giving me the death stare. Which was number twenty-four today.

"Suit yourself." I shrugged and then slit his throat. I saw him fall to the ground his claws clenching the cut that was fizzing out blood. In a couple seconds he lied dead. I walked away from him and down the hallway. Despite how weak these soldiers were, there was one thing I always admired. Their courage. Their courage to keep fighting even if you know it will bring you death you keep fighting no matter the enemy.

I looked at the soon to be setting sun. I looked around to make sure that no one was around. When I was certain I was alone I took off. I had studied the maps of the world and knew where the crystal empire was. It was far away, but I knew I could make it there in two-three days tops. The problem was facing another sentinel there. Now that would be a challenge.

"There now that the first chapter is done I'm going to give my cousin, a very special gift if you will." The storyteller chuckled

Chapter 2 the reunion

Flash awoke to the shine of light that escaped through his window. It was shining on his entire face screaming 'get up you fool its morning'. When Flash got out of bed He stretched his whole body and headed towards the closet. He opened it up, and was greeted by his golden armor. He picked it up and put it on. He then directed all of his Attention to the spear that rested next to his armor. He picked it up and and put it on his back. He then trotted out of his door, ready for the day.

Flash headed towards the mess hall for some breakfast. He picked up a bowl and poured myself a bowl of corn flakes. He then walked to a table and started eating. After he finished He headed up to Shining Armors office where he was to help him with the big show coming up for princess Cadence's birthday. It was meant to be a surprise so armor told him to keep it on the down low. Once he got to his office Flash knocked on the door.

"Who is it?" Ask somepony behind the door.

"A friend to help you out." Flash replied

The sound of locks and gears being moved came from the inside the door as it opened.

"Get in, quickly." Said Shining Armor

Flash hustled in and Shining Armor closed the door behind them. then he casted a silence spell, making sure no one heard what we said.

"So captain what's the plan today." Flash asked,eagerly.

He looked to Flash and smiled, then trotted to his desk and pulled out a large sheet of paper. It had words written just about everywhere. It might be hard to read unless you were the one that drew it.

"Flash, you understand why this is important to me right?" He asked very sternly.

"Of course I know sir. It's because every-time you plan a birthday surprise for princess Cadence she always finds out about it." I replied

"Exactly. But this time is different, I've got everything all planed out but there is one small thing we are missing."

"And what might that be?"

"How are we gonna hide the wonderbolts from her. We need to find out how to train the wonderbolts for the show and keep them hidden from my wife."

The sound of the wonderbolts reminded Flash of his cousin Soarin. A very fast flyer, probably the fastest in their family even. Flash quickly then got back to the task at hoof. A half an hour went by and the two hadn't come up with any ideas of finding out someway to train the wonderbolts and keep them hidden. Nothing came to mind.

When an hour had passed shining armor told Flash that he needed to return to his guard post. Flash agreed and headed for the door. Flash unlocked it and creaked it open just a crack to make sure no pony was around. Once he knew the coast was clear he headed towards his post. The sound of locks locking into place echoing through the halls as he trotted down the halls. On the way to his post he turned the corner and bumped into somepony he did not expect to see.

"Princess Cadence?" Flash asked a bit confused. Luckily he caught myself and also bowed. He looked up to see that the princess was smiling. Normally she always smiled happily but this wasn't a happy friendly smile. No this was a happy devilish smile that spread across her face. He didn't know why but she always wore that face ever since princess Twilight Sparkle bumped into him. Twice!

"Hi Flash How's it going. Don't mind me asking but I just just wanted to ask you what were you and shining up to in his office?" She asked still smiling devilishly.

Flash knew what she was doing, trying to make Flash tell her everything about her birthday party. Luckily shining armor gave him some follow up lines incase something like this were to happen.

"Shining Armor called me into his office to put me in charge of looking after some supplies that are coming in here in a few days." I replied hoping that she couldn't tell I was lying to her.

She studied me for a bit and then walked off.

"Ok then. But if you see anything, how I should say...hmm...out of the ordinary, please tell me." She said as she trotted down the opposite hall.

"Will do princess." Flash said. Then bowed and trotted off.

Flash made a quick sigh of relief and walked towards his post. On the way he thought he heard the sound of flapping wings getting closer and closer to him. It sounded like it was coming from behind him so he turned around to see what the sound was, only to be met by a force that threw him against a wall.

Flash was a bit stunned at first, everything seemed blurry, he had no idea at what just happened. But soon his vision came back into focus and he saw a dark shadowy figure across from himself. He quickly got up and got into a 'ready to fight' position.

"Hold it there Flash you don't want to hit your cousin do you?" It asked.

The sound of his voice calmed me down almost completely. I knew exactly who it was.

"Well excuse me cousin, but last time I checked if somepony charges at a guard, then said guard should have a reason to defend himself." I retorted

Then the shadowy figure came into light, he looked a lot like Flash, he had jet mane like his but that was a darkish red. His body was the same color as flashes but a bit more darker. And his cutie mark was a lightning bolt with two crossed swords behind it. His eyes where orange like his mothers. Oh and his name was lightning strike

Flash trotted down the halls to his post, as lightning strike followed right behind him.

"So where ya headed cuz." Asked the curious lightning strike.

"To my post light, I am a guard, remember?" Replied Flash.

Lightning just rolled his eyes. "Of course I remember. How could I forget?"

"Uh-Huh." Said Flash. No really paying much attention to his cousins conversation. Lightning saw this and asked Flash a question,

"Okay what is it?" Asked lightning strike.

Flash was a bit confused by the question. "What is what?" Asked Flash.

Lightning looked a bit irritated by his question not being answered. "You know what I'm talking about. What is bugging you?" Lightning asked.

Flash looked at his cousin with the most convincing face he could muster up. "Nothing is bothering me Light." Flash lied, hoping that his cousin would buy it, but sadly lightning knew Flash very well, he knew all his tricks and lies. Lightning just stared at Flash waiting for an actual answer. Finally Flash made a sigh of defeat and looked around to make sure no pony was listening. He then told lightning about shining armors plan and his problem.

"Wait the wonderbolts are coming here?" Asked lightning strike.

Flash nodded in a yes manner.

"That means we'll get to see our cousin Soarin!" Lightning said nearly jumping off the ground and hitting the roof of the castle. Once Flash finally got him calm down lightning wanted to confirm

"So you need to figure out a way for the wonderbolts to train and stay hidden from everypony. Right?"

Flash nodded a yes. Lightning stood there in thought for a minute or two and finally spoke.

"Well that's simple just have the wonderbolts disguised as new recruits and that their training is a new flight pattern." Lightning replied

Flash looked at lightning with his eyes widened to the size of dinner plates.

"Lightning...that's...that's just...geniuses!" Flash shouted.

"Was there any doubt." He said with a smirk. Once they had gotten to Flash's post lightning wave him goodbye and told him that he would set his plan into action.

"How are you gonna get authorization your not a guard?" Flash spoke.

"Simple I'll tell shining armor that the plan was your idea and that we need to get it started ASAP, but you couldn't leave your post. He said. But before trotting off. Flash asked lightning on final question,

"Hold up light." Flash said.

Lightning stopped in his tracks and looked back to Flash to see what he wanted.

thought of how lucky he was to have two great cousins like Lightning and Soarin. He then stood at the doorway and waited until his shift was shift was over.

As lightning walked down the crystal hallway he realized he forgot to ask Flash where Shining Armor's office was. He mentally slapped himself at how stupid he was for forgetting something as important as that. He looked around to see if anypony was around to tell him where it was. He noticed a tall pink pony walking down the hall. He decided to ask her where if she knew were Shining Armors office was.

"Excuse me miss you wouldn't happen to know-" lightning was cut off when he saw that the pink pony was princess Mi Amora Cadenza. He mentally slapped himself for not realizing she was the princess.

"I'm sorry sir I didn't quite understand what you said can you please be more clear?" She asked softly.

"I am terrible sorry your highness, I did not recognize you from afar." Lightning said, bowing before the Princess. He then got and looked at her seeing that she had a beautiful smile on her face.

"It's quite all right, everypony makes mistakes." She assured lightning, who just smiled at her.

"Well if it's alright, I was just wondering were Prince Shining Armor's office might be?" Asked lightning.

The princess looked at him with her right eyebrow up. She then spoke,

"Why do you wish to see my husband?" She asked politely.

Lightning needed to come up with a good lie so Flashes plans weren't suspected.

"Well you see, Flash sentry wanted to tell Shinning Armor about the new recruits coming in today. But he also didn't want to leave his post, so he asked me to tell him." Lightning lied. Lightning was kinda impressed with himself, not only did he he come up with a strong lie that fast, but if she believed it, it would make it unlikely for the new recruits to be spotted. Eventually the princess finally answered him,

"His office is down the hall." She answered.

Lightning bowed and thanked her for the information and trotted off. Once he got to the office he knocked on it. He heard the sound of drawers being shut and papers being wrinkled. Once the noise had stopped lightning heard somepony speak,

"Enter." Said a stern voice.

Lightning entered the office to find a white pony standing in front of him. He had a blue mane and had a stern look on his face.

"Good morning, my name is Lightning strike, I came here to help you with-" Lightning stopped and looked around to be sure no pony was listening, "princess Mi Amora Cadenza's birthday." Lightning whispered.

At the sound of his wife's name, surprised Shining Armor he then pounced on Lightning and held him against a wall and started demanding questions from Lightning.

"Who told you about her? What do you know? Answer me!" Shining demanded from the dazed Lightning strike.

"Flash Sentry...sent...me...to...help you...out." He coughed.

"Oh, sorry. I didn't know." Shining Armor stated.

"It's okay."

Once lightning had his breath back he told Shining Armor about his plan for hiding the wonderbolts. The sound of the idea was brilliant to shining Armors ears. He agreed to his plan and wanted to set it into motion immediately. Lightning couldn't wait to see his cousin again.

Soarin wasn't to happy being in the armor he was wearing. It was uncomfortable, loose, and irritating the hay out of him. He was ready to ditch the armor when a pony with a friendly face showed up at the field.

"Flash?" Soarin questioned himself.

"Alright guys here's what's gonna happen, you will preform a battle tactic known as 'the soaring dove'. Everyone should have already studied the move and know how it works. Okay?" Flash said.

All of soaring teammates agreed and started to practice. Flash gave us all positions for the move. The idea of the soaring dove was to carry water up into the sky, splash it with heat causing it form into clouds and turn them into the shape of a dove. Once the shape is made the Pegasi go into the dove shaped cloud and move it. In the end it should look like the dove is actually soaring. There are 5 steps to the move,

1: splash the water into the sky.

2: heat the water up and turn it into clouds

3: mold the clouds into the shape of a dove

4: enter the dove and move into your positions.

5: move the dove and make it look like its flying.

Each of these steps would be hard for any normal Pegasus, but they weren't normal Pegasus, no they were the wonderbolts, and they could do this. After practice was over Soarin trotted up to Flash.

"Hey cuz." Soarin said once he got next to Flash.

Flash looked behind him to see who was talking to him and smiled seeing it was his cousin.

"Hey Soarin, what's up?" Flash asked.

"Well most of time I am, but not right now I guess." Soarin said.

The both of them chuckled at the joke. There chuckles however were put to a stop when something, no somepony, had crashed into them.

"Hey Soarin it's so good to see you again." Said a voice.

Soarin knew exactly who it belonged to, and the thought of it made him smile.

"Well its nice to see you to, lightning." He replied to the Pegasus that had just crashed into him.

"So what have you been up to lately?"

"Well you know a couple of shows here and there, but still no action. I now see why you quit the wonderbolts Flash, it gets kinda boring."

Flash just stared at Soarin annoyed. "First off Soarin I didn't quit the wonderbolts they kicked me out due to my wing inquiry's. Second we swore to not speak of why I really got those inquiry's in the first place." He said quietly.

Soarin decided to quickly change the subject from there...past lives.

"So, what's it like being a guard at the Crystal empire?" He asked.

"Well. Nothing much yet, I stand guard at some areas and escort some ponys but nothing big yet." Flash replied a bit of sadness in his voice.

"So light, you dissapered last time I checked, care to explain what that was all about?" Asked Soarin

"Well I didn't want to have a boring life like you guys." Replied Lightning Strike. Flash and Soarin stared at the annoying comment.

"No offense." Lightning said.

"None taken." Flash and Soarin said in unison. Which suprised them both.

"Anyways, I went off to travel the globe and discover new sights and new things. Once I heard that Flash was in the Crystal Empire I headed there to say hi."

"Well I best get to my hotel, I can't wait for a nice rest."

"I'll head to my quarters as well, see ya guys."

"And I'll go to my tent I stationed up. Don't worry it's a big tent."

Chapter 3 the suprise

Lightning strike awoke to the sound of his alarm going off. Normally he'd just punch it and sleep in. But today was different, today he was very happy to get up. Today was the day that he got to see his cousins again.

It had been so long since the three had a get together. Lightning decided to get out of bed and headed towards the kitchen for a nice breakfast. He made himself a bowl of cornflakes, sat down and started eating. After he was done he went to the bathroom and took a shower. After the shower was down he dried off, brushed his teeth, and combed his hair. After some time he was ready to leave. As he walked out the door he looked back to his tent.

It was a two story tent, and was very big for a tent. Lightning smiled and then trotted off. In the distance he could see the Crystal Empire. It shimmered in the sunlight making it look very beautiful. But lightning knew that this was no time for sight-seeing he made a promise to his cousin to help him out and he was gonna keep it.

'Wait, I never made such a promise!' Lightning thought. 'Well I make that promise now. I will help my cousins with this difficult task."

Once lightning got to the field he saw the wonderbolts (who were still in disguise wearing golden armor) training for the move. He watched as they circled around a pool of water. He could see what was happening very clearly, he watched as the water started to rise up. Once the water got to the necessary height it splashed up into the air. Once in the air Lightning saw six clouds, on those clouds were six unicorns in gold armor like the wonderbolts. When the water had splashed up, the unicorns activated their horns. When they did flames came out and struck the splashed water. Doing so the water turned into clouds. On cue the wonderbolts flew up and started molding the cloud into the shape of a dove. Once the shape was made the wonderbolts entered the cloud-shaped dove. Then the unicorns used their magic to change the cloud's colors from white, to red, blue, pink, orange, yellow, and purple. Then the cloud started to move like it was an actual living thing. It soared in the sky's for a bit doing some tricks here and there. For the finale the dove shot strait up into the sky and exploded causing colored rain to drip from the now disintegrated dove.

Lightning just stood there speechless. Never before did he witness something that...that...extraordinary. It was truly amazing.

"That...was...thee...greatest...thing...I...have ever...seen in my life!" Lightning yelled. As he trotted towards the group. He saw some of the guards help down the unicorns on the clouds. He looked around to see were Flash was. But he was nowhere to be seen.

"Hey where's Flash Sentry?" Lightning asked.

One of the wonderbolts walked up to him and spoke,

"Don't know." She shrugged, she was hard to identify cause of the gold armor. "He didn't show up for practice today."

Lightning was worried that Flash had slept in and would get in trouble for not helping. He wouldn't let his cousin get in trouble. If anyone was gonna destroy his life it was gonna be Lightning.

That was a Lightning need to tell him to get Flash. He ran off to get the fool up. When he got to the entrance of the castle two guards blocked the entrance.

"Halt! Name and purpose." One said sternly.

"Name, Lightning Strike. Purpose, need to see my cousin Flash Sentry. Lightning replied.

The guards looked over him carefully. After a while they let him pass. Lightning ran through the halls trying to find Flash's quarter.

"27-A, 28-A, 29-A, 30-A, 31-A, 32-A, 33-A, 34-A, 35-A, 36-A, hello good morning." Lightning stopped say good morning to a guard that was patrolling the hallways. 37-A, 38-A, 39-A, 40-A, 41-A, 42-A, 43-A, 44-A, 45-. Wait." Lightning skidded to halt, while smacking himself in the head for missing the door.

"43-A, Flash's room." Lightning said walking into the room. There he saw Flash lying in his bed, still asleep. He looked at Flash and walked up to him.

"Aww, he looks so peaceful." Lightning cooed.

"ON YOUR HOOVES SENTRY!" Lightning yelled at the top of his lungs. The loud voice made Flash jump up nearly hitting the ceiling. He quickly got up and saluted

"Flash Sentry ready for duty sir! Flash yelled expecting to be lectured by whoever woke him. But instead heard the sound of his cousin Lightning bursting into laughter. He fell on the ground clutching sides from laughing so hard. Flash was but confused at first but then realized what happened. He glared at Lighting.

"Care to explain?" He said a combination of anger and annoyance in his voice.

The still laughing Lightning started to calm down and looked at Flash trying to put on a serious face.

"Well you see (*chuckle*), you slept in and, (*snort*) you were gonna get in trouble if I didn't wake you up." Lightning said between laughs.

Flash calmed down a bit but was still irritated by his cousins prank. But still he did blame himself, after all he was the one that slept in. Once he got to the mess hall he was about to grab a bowl of cornflakes when Lightning stopped him.

"No time for that cuz, we need to get to training those 'new recruits'. He said looking around.

"But what about breakfast?" Flash pleaded.

Lightning the stuffed a breakfast bar into Flash's mouth,

"There, breakfast on the road. Now let's move!" Lightning said pushing Flash towards the stadium. Flash could have easily push lightning back but he knew that his cousin was right, so he grabbed the bar, unwrapped it, and took a bite out of it.

Once they got to the stadium the wonderbolts preformed the trick and waited for Flash's opinion. After some time Flash finally spoke,

"The dove could use some more detail, the wing flight pattern was a bit loose, and the colors were a nice touch. Other than that, it was excellent!" He said delighted.

With the new information, they began to work on the move all day until they got it right. By the end of the day it was time for everypony to head off to bed.

When lightning arrived to his tent he went inside, sat down at the kitchen and made himself a bowl of salad. He was just about to eat his salad when he suddenly sensed that something was...off. He looked around to see what could have caused his sense's to react. When he saw nothing he shrugged and ate his salad.

When Flash had just sat down already eating his salad but stopped when something triggered his sense's. He looked around to see what could have caused his sense's to react. When he found nothing he thought to himself,

'Strange I could have sworn I sensed something. It could be nothing but I shouldn't keep my guard down.'

Soarin was just about to get to bed when just like Flash's and Lightning's sense's were triggered by something unknown. He looked around and found nothing.

'Must just be my imangination.' He thought. And with that he headed off to bed.

Bloodwing had been flying through a blizzard for some time now, it was small fault but it didn't stop him. Just like the other three he too sensed something, only he knew what was.

'Excellent I'm getting closer, now I just need to get through this darn blizzard. I'm pretty sure it'll hold me back a day at least. Get ready sentinel, I'm coming for you.

Soarin awoke to the sound of hooves shaking him.

"Hey sleepy head, time to get up." Said a voice.

"Hmm...no thanks, I think I'll sleep in today." He replied groggy

This made the pony of the voice, to put a smug on her face.

"Okay then, you asked for it."

"Asked for wha-aaaaaah!" Soarin yelled before being kicked on off the bed. The pony that kicked Soarin jumped up on the bed and stared down at him. Soarin stared back at the mare that just kicked him.

"Very funny Spitfire." Soarin said to the mare.

The mare known as "Spitfire" was the captain of the wonderbolts and Soarin's best friend. The two met at the Wonderbolts training academy and graduated there as well.

"come on sleepy head we gotta eat now before the show starts." Spitfire said.

"Alright, alright I'll get going." Soarin replied as the two headed for the kitchen. There they sat down and had themselves, each, a bowl of oats. once Soarin finished he looked at the clock.

'8:36.' He thought. 'Four more hours until the show.'

Once Soarin and spitfire were done eating they put on their armor and headed off. Once they got outside they saw that everypony was doing their daily routine.

'Everypony is acting casual, good they all got the plan.' He thought.

WHAM!

Soarin accidentally bumped into a cyan Pegasus with a rainbow mane.

"Hey carful were you step...you...uh..." The cyan Pegasus couldn't keep herself from mumbling. And Soarin knew why, this certain Pegasus was the one that saved his pie at the gala, save him and his friends countless times, and is the one and only to pull off the sonic Rainboom!

"Rainbow dash!" Soarin exclaimed. "Just the pony I wanted to see."

"You wanted to see...me?" The mare asked.

"But of course, I needed to give you this letter." Soarin said as he pulled out a letter and gave it to Rainbow dash.

"Well I got to go. See ya!" Soarin said as he began to fly away. Looking back though he could have sworn he saw her faint.

'Did she just-?" Soarin thought but quickly shook the thought away. 'Nah Dash is to cool for that.'

Flash paced himself back and forth awaiting the arrival of Soarin and Spitfire.

"There you are!" Flash shouted as both Spitfire and Soarin walked into the locker room. "What took you so long!?"

"I went to catch up with a friend." Soarin said

"Whatever, we don't have time to argue, let's move.

"Places everypony, places."yelled lightning.

With that Soarin took off and waited for the big suprise to happen.

"Shining can I look yet?" Cadence asked full of excitement.

"No dear you can't. I'll tell you when we get there." Shining armor replied.

"Okay now look." Shining armor said removing his hooves from his wife's eyes. Cadenced opened her eyes to see something pink.

"SURPRISE!!!" Yelled a pink mare with a pink poofy mane. She was pinkie pie.

You know I think I'll stop announcing all the known characters it's getting kinda tiring. Anyways back to the story!

Cadence was stunned at first, not because of pinkie, but because she was the only one there. She looked over pinkies shoulder to see if anyone else was behind her. There wasn't anyone there.

"Dear, where is everypony?" She asked quite puzzled.

"Why their all right behind you."

"Huh?" Cadence said a she spun around.

"SUPRISE!!!!!!!!" Yelled the main six, Luna, Celestia, Discord, and the cutie mark crusaders. It was such a suprise that cadence fell down. Or maybe it was because Luna accidentally used the royal canterolt voice.

Cadence stood up, a bit dazed, and looked at her family and friends. Then looked at the party decorations. The table to the left had sweets, such as ten bowls of candy, four cakes (one vanilla, one chocolate, one mint, and one strawberry), one chocolate fountain, on vanilla fountain, some ice cream, pies, and cookies. On the table to the left was the food. Which was filled with sandwiches, salads, fruits, vegetables, and 5 crates of Apple cider. The entire room had pink, yellow, and purple streamers everywhere, balloons almost everywhere, and confetti all over the floor.

"Wow. I can't believe it. This party is just...wow." She said.

"Well, Discord did helped out with most of it." Fluttershy said looking at Discord.

"Well...yes...I did help." Discord said proudly.

"By help do you mean 'spending an hour picking a theme'. Twilight said.

"Hey my themes were good, you just didn't like them."

"One of them was everypony dressed as sheep!"

"What's wrong with sheep?"

"Alright you two knock it off. We're all here to celebrate cadences birthday." Applejack said.

"I agree so cut the chit chat and let's PARTY!" Yelled pinkie. And with that the games began, after a while it soon became noon and shining armor signaled everypony to head towards the stadium. When everypony was gone shining walked his wife towards the stadium.

"So predict any of this. Dear?" He said grinning.

"I'll admit this was all unexpected. But I doubt that you have any other surprise's left." She said.

"Well prepare to be surprised." Shining said as they walked to the thrones at the stadium. When they stepped outside the entire stadium was full of ponies that all at once yell,

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY PRINCESS CADENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" The crowd boomed. The noise was so loud it made the canterolt voice sound like a wisper.

"Wow! This is a surprise!" Cadence proclaimed. She looked at her husband and kissed him on the lips. "Thank you so much for these gift shining." She said.

Shinings grin just grew more and more at that statement.

"It's not over yet." He said pointing to the stadium. Cadence, who was now sitting on her thrown next to all her friends, looked down to see twenty-five guard ponies in gold armor. Behind them was a medium sized swimming pool full of water. She looked real closely at them and then realized who they were,

"The new recruits. What surprise do they have me?" Cadence asked.

"Oh you'll see, also there not exactly new recruits." Shining Armor replied.

Cadence looked at him confused when a pony with jet style red hair and orangish body flew above the crowd and held a microphone in his hoof for everypony to hear.

"LAIDES AND GENTAL-COLTS!!!! PUT YOUR HOOVES TOGETHER FOR THE ONE! THE ONLY! THE WONDERBOLTS!!!!! Yelled the orange pony.

"Wonderbolts?" Cadence questioned. Just then the guards ponies took off their armor and threw it into the air, revealing their wonderbolts uniforms. The entire crowd gasped in astonishment, even the four princess gasped in surprise, along with their friends. On cue the wonderbolts began their act.

They started off by creating a tornado around the water causing it to rise and rise. Soon it burst into the sky, then fire came out of six clouds that were above the pool. When the fire hit the water it turned into a bundle of clouds, the wonderbolts stopped creating the tornado and flew at the cloud. Once they reached it they started to mold it. After a while the wonderbolts molded it into the shape of a dove. And out of nowhere the cloud took on colors. Then the wonderbolts disappeared into the the cloud-shaped dove. Then suddenly as if brought to life the cloud started to flap its wings. It took off and flew around the crowd a couple of times. Then was the time of the finale, the dove shot up into the air and then exploded. But when it did it started to rain. But not just any rain, the rain was colored pink, red, blue, yellow, orange, and purple.

Shining looked to his wife to see her expression. It was priceless, her jaw hit the floor, her eyes were the size of dinner plates, and she was at a lose for words. So was everypony else, they all mimicked her expression. Once the rain had stopped the wonderbolts flew down and took a bow. The whole crowd went berserk! Everything was perfect. Almost perfect.

Flash, Lightning, and Soarin in unison felt something trigger their senses.

'There it is again, no doubt about it, something is off I can feel it.' Thought Lightning.

'Something's triggering my sense, but what? It can't be a coincidence this happened twice something is wrong here.' Flash thought.

'Why is it happening again, what is that, whatever it is it's certainly got my attention.' Soarin thought.

But before the three could act a green lightning bolt struck a wonderbolt clean out of the sky. The entire crowd gasped once again as the wonderbolt plummeted to the ground.

Chapter 4 the attack

As the wonderbolt plummeted to the ground Soarin quickly dove in and rescued his fellow teammate. He then looked around to see what struck his friend. Suddenly another green lightning bolt stuck at Soarin, but he dodged it just barley. He looked up to where the lightning bolt struck and couldn't Believe his eyes.

"No." He mumbled under his breath. "It can't be."

He flew down to the ground with the hit wonderbolt, when he reached the ground he laid down the wonderbolt and inspected the wound. His wing and side were burnt, and he was unconscious. Flash and Lightning ran up to Soarin.

"Was this part of the act?" Asked Lightning.

"No this isn't, we need to warn everypony to get out of here right now." Soarin replied.

"Okay then." Lightning picked up the microphone and screamed through it, "EVERYPONY THAT GUY UP THERE IS NOT PART OF THE SHOW, ANYONE WHO IS NOT A GUARD OR WONDERBOLT RUN AND SCREAM!"

When said the ponies started to leave the stadium in a rush, pushing and shoving each other to get away. Once the stadium was empty all that remained was Flash, Soarin, Lightning, Discord, The main six, the three princesses, captain Shining Armor, the wonderbolts, and some of the crystal Royal guards. Flash looked at Lightning with an annoyed look on his face.

"You know you could have just said, 'please walk in a orderly fashion'." Flash remarked, Lightning just Rolled his eyes.

"Let's face it Flash no matter what I said their reaction was gonna be the same."

"Oh yea also, the guy up there, I think he's a Sentinel." Soarin proclaimed.

Both Flash and Lightning looked at Soarin in surprise.

"Are you sure Soarin?" Lightning asked.

"No, he's clearly a griffon that can somehow control green lightning." Soarin said sarcasticly.

"Hit the dirt!" Flash yelled as another bolt of green lightning hit the ground.

As soon as it hit the ground the figure flew down and landed on the ground. He was hard to identify because he was wearing a mask that covered his entire face. He had two weapons the three didn't believe existed. In his left hand he held a sword that a sword with a green gem in the center of it. On his right arm he had a gauntlet with a green gem in the center of it like the sword he had. He looked at the princesses before him and spoke,

"You three have turned this world into a world of ruin, a world that was once in the golden age and is now in desolation. Allow me to rid you from the destruction you've created." He said pointing the gauntlet at princess Cadence. He then fired another green lightning bolt at her but the impact never came. Everypony watched as their beloved princess Celesta was hit by the bolt and landed with a burn mark on her chest.

"NO!" Everypony screeched. Cadence then looked at the masked griffon that had attacked her beloved aunt.

"You'll pay for that, griffon!" She yelled, levitating a sword from one of the guards and charging at the griffon.

"Flash we got to help her, she can't fight him on her own!" Yelled Lightning.

Flash knew all to well that she was no match for the griffon. But he also knew he couldn't be spotted. So he was put into a tight spot at the moment. But he then snapped when the griffon struck princess Cadence. Everypony watched as the once levitated sword fell to the ground. Everypony witnessed as the griffon drove the blade through her body.

Everypony rushed to the fallen princess, Shining Armor was the first to arrive to her body. Then twilight, then Luna, and so forth.

"Cadence, No! Cadence don't leave me...don't leave me yet...please Cadence don't leave...don't leave yet." He said tears falling from his eyes. He looked to the sword his wife had before she died. And levitated it with his magic.

"Oh no, no Shining Armor please don't fight him, you'll get yourselves killed. Dang it Flash you have to go help them." Lightning cried. "Flash?" He looked around but Flash was nowhere to be found.

"You jerk, she was my wife! Shining Armor screamed, charging at the griffon. But was stopped when another masked pony flew down and halted Shining Armors advance. The difference between this masked pony and the griffon was his armor was gold with clear lens for his eyes and his entire body covered by the armor.

"Easy there Shining Armor, I know you want revenge, you all do. But you can not take this guy on alone. But I can. The masked pony said to them all. With that Shining Armor backed off and let the golden armored pony attack the griffon.

"So you where the disturbance I felt coming here." The griffon said.

"I'm only gonna say this once." Said the masked pony. "Where did you get that sentinel gear. All sentinels know that such weapons are forbidden."

"Forbidden! These weapons are the key to power and victory. I will use them to wipe out you pony scum and reclaim what belongs to us.

"Those weapons are forbidden because they gave all sentinel an unfair advantage. Instead of earning their power they just took it!

"Well then let me use that advantage against you!" The griffon yelled firing a bolt of Green lightning at the masked pony. But the green blot was intercepted by the masked ponies own bolt. He shot a yellow bolt of lightning at the green bolt. She the two collided it created a small blast between them knocking them back a bit.

"Impossible, you don't have a gauntlet!" Exclaimed the griffon.

"Did you really think you needed a gauntlet to control lightning, you are such a fool. Goldwing." The masked pony yelled back.

The sound of his name enraged the griffon to charge at the mask pony. "DON'T YOU DARE CALL ME THAT NAME." He shouted. "GOLD WING IS DEAD. I AM BLOODWING!

"Bloodwing, sounds like you put three seconds into your new name Goldwing." The masked pony remarked holding the griffon back.

Now the griffon was really peeved. So peeved he picked up the masked pony and threw him at the stadium wall, which he broke through, then a couple house, and demolished nearly half of a street. The griffon then flew after the masked pony. When he was gone Lightning and Soarin ran towards princess Cadence.

There they saw princess Twilight trying to revive her Sister-in-law using he magic, but nothing was working.

"Everypony I'm gonna need you to stand back." Lightning yelled. Everypony surprisingly did what he asked. He quickly got to Cadences body and put his two front for-legs over her body. The his two hooves started to glow red. And started getting brighter and brighter.

"Clear!" He yelled slaking his to front hooves on her body. When he did this red electricity started to flow through her entire body. Everypony looked to her wound which was somehow healing. Once the wound was healed, Lightning stopped and lauded down on the grass.

Suddenly, Cadences eyes started to open.

"Huh...where am I?" She asked looking into her husbands eyes. "Is this ponyheaven?"

"No, no your still alive. And your alive with me, and that's all that matters right now." Shining said hugging his wife tightly. Everypony was happy to see that there princess was alright.

"I hate to interrupt such a wonderful moment but I think we should help that masked pony." Said princess Celestia.

"Princess, oh thank goodness your ok." Said twilight.

"As am I, but we must stop that griffon."

"Way ahead of you your Highness." Said Lightning. "Alright the time for reunion is on hold for right now, until we give that party crasher a good tail-kicking." Everypony nodded I agreement. And ran off to help the masked pony.

It wasn't easy getting up, especially when you've got three hundred pounds of rock on you. Flash thought. But was then pulled out of the ground by a claw that grabbed his neck.

"What do you have to say for yourself now, pony." Said the griffon.

"That you really need a breath mint. Bad." He said.

The griffon looked ready to through Flash to the ground and start beating him senseless. But some certain friends helped him get out of that situation.

"Let him go griffon!" Yelled a large booming voice.

The griffon turned around to meet the whole gang that was in the stadium.

"Let him go or get pummeled to a pulp." Soarin said angered.

"The griffon looked at them all and laughed.

"Hahahahahaha, do you really think you can all take me down, your no match for me." He boasted

"Maybe their not a match for you, but trust me we are." Lightning said red lightning coming out of his hooves. Soarin had the same reaction, except his lightning was blue. The griffon looked suprised at what was taking place.

'Huh, I guess their right I am outmatched. I clearly underestimated them, I won't make that mistake twice.' Thought the griffon.

The griffon let go of the masked pony and the dissapered into thin air.

"What just happened?" Asked Shining Armor.

"He used a technic know as 'flash'. It's when you travel somewhere instantly." Lightning explained.

The masked pony who had just fought the griffon came up to the group, as he did his armor started to retract into its normal form.

"Flash Sentry?!" Asked Shining Armor. "Your the masked pony that fought the griffon!?

"Yeah, kinda kept it on the down low, but know I guess my secret is out huh." Flash said rubbing the back of his head.

Shining Armor stared at him with a death stare, " Flash you've got some explaining to do." He said very anger like.

Suddenly a brute flash of white light appeared out of nowhere. When the light faded there stood Discord.

"Hey anybody know where the salsa is were almost out." He said not aware of what happened. Once he looked around and saw the entire are was nearly demolished.

"Why is it that when you guys start having fun I miss it." Discord grumbled.

"And where exactly where you when this happened?" Asked Twilight

"Oh, just taking care of some family business." Discord said with a evil grin

Meanwhile from storytellers point of view.

"SERIOUSLY HOW DO YOU FIT A PIANO IN A TINY BOX?!?!?! Shrieked storyteller as he walked down the hall.

"Well he is the element of chaos and disharmony." A shadowy figure said

"I was joking Shadow."

Chapter 5 the explanation

"Explain all of this? Well we're do I begin." Lightning said.

After the griffon had attack the group went inside the crystal empire for some relaxation. (They were sitting at a round crystal table) And if anyone needed relaxation it was Cadence. Mostly because she was brought back to life! Celestia had a large ice pack on her chest where a lightning bolt had struck her. Then there was Flash, he was the one that took the most damage. He cuts and bruises everywhere, his body was beaten, his left eye swollen, and he was covered in dirt and ruble.

"Ssss, ahh that stings." Flash hissed as Twilight put an ice pack on his wounds.

"Oh be still." Twilight said. "It only stings because it's working."

"Why don't you start at the beginning." Shining told them, now putting all of his attention on Lightning.

"The beginning huh, well it all started somewhere between

ten-thousand or twenty-thousand years ago. A time when there was no princesses, no government, nothing. A time when the griffons ruled the world. It was a awful time, but then a pony known as- well, it's been so long I don't even remember his name. But he created a group known as the sentinel. A highly trained group of soldiers. With the group the sentinels were a combination of ponies and griffons that did not agree with the way things were. Since then the sentinel order kept the globe safe from anything that dared to attack our world. During that time their were 100,000 sentinels. But over time, the sentinel order was on the bring of collapsing. When nightmare moon fist appeared the order collapsed. When it did all sentinels either went into hiding or died. Flash's father was a sentinel, Soarin's mother was a sentinel, and my father was a sentinel. When we were all four years old, our family trained us technics that the sentinel learned." Lightning explained.

"I have heard of such soldiers, but never before have I seen them!" Said Luna

"Okay, so that's the history behind that story, so next question. HOW THE BUCK DID YOU CONTROL LIGHTNING!" Yelled Shining Armor.

"I can control it because it's a technic that we know. It's the entire reason our cutie marks have a lightning bolt." Lightning said showing everyone his cutie mark. "See, my cutie mark is two crossed swords and a lightning bolt down the middle. I got it when Flash, Soarin, and I were battling a hydra.

Flashback.

It was a clear sunny day on a hill near a forest, Soarin, Flash, and Lightning (who are now 10) were playing soccer. They stopped playing when they heard a scream. Flash was the first to react to the scream, but doing so the ball hit him on the head.

"Hey Flash what gives, that pass was right to you." Soarin proclaimed.

Flash got up and looked towards the forest. "Guys I think somepony might be in trouble." He said still looking at the forest. Lightning just rolled his eyes.

"Come on Flash, we both know you were daydreaming, just admit it and let's get back to the game."

Just then another scream was heard, this one louder than before.

"There did you hear that?" Flash said pointing a hoof at the forest.

"Well I definitely heard something, but it could just be-." Lightning was cut off by the sound of an angry beast yelling at the top of its lungs.

"ROARRRR!!"

It's roar echoed through the forest causing birds to take flight up into the air. Flash shot a annoyed look at his two cousins who had a shocked look on their face.

"well I definitely heard that, so maybe we should go check it out." Lightning said still surprised. And with that they all flew towards the sound. When they got to the source they saw a little girl cornered to a rock, and a hungry looking hydra closing in on her.

"Hey leave her alone you." Yelled Soarin as he was about to just fly straight at the hydra and start attacking it. Luckily Lightning was there to hold him back.

"Hold it Soarin let's not go fighting this thing without a plan." Said Lightning.

"And what might you have in mind?" Asked Flash.

"Simple, Soarin and I will distract the hydra, while you rescue the girl."

They all agreed at the plan and put the plan into motion. The plan began when lightning and Soarin bucked the two heads on the edge. The hydra roared in pain, and swatted the two guys out of sky. The hydra then moved his attention to his prey that was no escaping.

"Don't worry, I'm gonna get you out of here." Flash said Calmly to the terrified filly. When Flash heard the hydra roar he looked behind him to see it charging straight at him. But Flash stood his ground, he flared out his wings and was ready to take the charging hydra. But suddenly out of nowhere a yellow lightning bolt struck Flash. He had closed his eyes tightly, when he opened them he saw the hydra rear back in pain. He saw that one of the heads had been burned off. But he had no idea how it happened. When the hydra was done roaring it was now angry, very angry. He started to charge Flash but halted when Soarin began to fly around the hydra. Fast, so fast that a tornado started to form around the hydra. But it didn't halt the hydra for long, soon it started to move towards Flash, slowly.

"No!" Soarin yelled. "You will not hurt my cousin!"

When he finished that sentence a blue lightning bolt came out of nowhere and started bouncing around in the tornado. After a couple of bounces the lightning bolt finally struck another one of the hydra's heads. It lashed out in pain at Soarin. The hydra then smacked Soarin sending him flying towards Flash. The two crashed into each other, hitting the wall of the rock on impact. They lied on each other in daze as they looked at the closing in hydra. It had only one head now since the other two were cut off. Just then as the hydra was about to eat the three ponies in front of him, lightning strike flew in front of the hydra's face and bucked him right in the face. The hydra wasn't hurt by the attack, it was more annoyed by it than harmed. It growled at the Pegasus that just bucked him. He flew in place glaring at the hydra.

"You listen here you over grown lizard. These two here are my family. And their the only family I have left. So I'll be darned if I'm gonna let anything happen to them!" He yelled at the hydra. Lightning was know for his stubbornness. When his family was in danger he would risk his own life for them.

He reared up his ready to punch the hydra, who was now lunging himself at Lightning. As Lightning threw his punch a red lightning bold, struck his hoof as he laid down the punch. A large explosion filled the air. Dust and smoke everywhere. As it started to clear the body of the hydra started to fall backwards. As it hit the ground more dust and ruble was stirred up. The hydra had all of its heads blown off, six trees knocked down, and a terrified filly.

Lightning flew to the ground to help the filly. But she was nowhere to be seen.

"She must have ran off." Soarin proclaimed.

"Then we should go find her." Flash replied.

The three flew off to find the little filly. Little did they know that she had dove into a bush a few feet away. She looked at the dead hydra and smiled. Then she disappeared.

End of Flashback.

"We search all over the forest trying to find the filly but we never found her." Lightning said finishing the story.

"So now we know how you guys control lightning, but how come that griffon could control lightning?" Shinning Armor asked.

"Well, that brings us to the story of the gauntlets." Lightning said.

" you see back then a sentinel wanted to achieve the power that the first sentinel had. But he was not capable of achieving such power, so he created the four gauntlets. Each one had the power of each lightning, Red the lightning of mind, Blue the lightning of speed, yellow the lightning strength, and green the lightning of magic.

(Not to be confused with the element magic from the elements of Harmony, different magic okay.)

He forged four gauntlets, each able to harness each lightning. But when the first sentinel caught wind of this he and five other sentinels went to stop him.

Flashback

As the sole started to clear from the cooled off gauntlets the sentinel picked two of them up and placed the blue one on his right foreleg, placed the red one on his left foreleg, placed the green one on his right backleg, and placed the yellow on his left backleg. As soon as all four were attached to him they started to glow in unison. The sentinel smiled in triumph.

Just then the door to his factory was busted open and five sentinels wearing gold armor that covered their entire body's rushed in, surrounding the sentinel with the gauntlets. Once he was surrounded the leader sentinel walked in.

"What is the meaning of this?!" Demanded the sentinel with gauntlets.

"I have caught word that you have created four gauntlets that have the power to harness all forms of lightning. Is this correct?" Asked the head sentinel.

"Yes I have, headmaster." He said confidently showing off his new gear. "And I must say that with these we might all become as powerful as you."

"Just as I feared. Sentinels seize him!"

The sentinel guards started to close in on the gauntlet welding sentinel. Their spears pointing directly at him.

"What why, I have something that can put us to the maximum limit there is. Why are you attacking me?!" The sentinel demanded.

"Because you can't just rely on one thing to achieve victory." The head sentinel replied.

But the sentinel wouldn't go down without a fight. He leaped into the air and crashed down, causing a shock wave of yellow lighting to activate on the impact. The shock was so large it threw all of the guards at the wall, knocking them out. Even the headmaster was knocked back by the impact, sending him flying outside. But the headmaster was quick to his hooves. He quickly got up and put on his fight stance. As the sentinel ran out of his house, he fired a green lightning bolt at the headmaster. He returned the attack by firing his own green lightning bolt, his eyes turning green in the process. The two lightning bolts collided and collapsed on each other on impact, causing a small boom to erupt. The headmaster looked at the sentinel, his blue gauntlet started to glow, and suddenly he was gone.

The headmasters eyes started to glow blue. Then suddenly everything just slowed down. Everything except the sentinel who was was flying away. Even though he had no wings. As if gravity had no effect the headmaster took off chasing after the sentinel. It took him some time but he managed to catch up to the sentinel. Once he did he tackled the sentinel causing the both of them to loose their blue glow. As they tumbled on the ground the headmaster quickly got up. The sentinel wasn't fast enough. The headmaster took advantage of this and struck the sentinel in the head.

The sentinel flew through the air and hit a tree on impacted. The headmaster walked up to the sentinel and took off all four of the gauntlets. His eyes glowed blue and he was gone. He then flew to the temple where the meeting area was. On arriving he startled a worker who was dusting the temple.

"Gahhh." Yelled the startled mare, full of startleness.

But her look quickly went from startled to worried.

"Headmaster are you okay?"

The headmaster looked at the mare and smiled. She was a grey Pegasus, with blue hair, and cyan eyes.

"I'm fine duster." The headmaster said, hopefully reassuring the mare. But she wasn't buying it.

"Your not fine. Your wounds aren't regenerating, you look beaten up, and what are you holding?"

The Headmaster liked duster, she was a very good friend to him, one of his best.

"So whatcha got there?" She asked pointing a hoof at the gauntlets the headmaster held. He then remembered why he came to the temple in the first place.

"Duster, go get my elite guards and tell them to capture a criminal near the woods, then after you've done that, I need you to destroy this gauntlets." He said giving the gauntlets to duster. She nodded in agreement and left. When she was gone, the headmaster walked to a shrine that had nothing but drawings and candles in a circle. He sat down and began to drift asleep.

After some time he was awoken by his friend rushing through the door, panting.

"Duster are you alright?" He asked his friend.

She cleared her throat and spoke,

"The guards went to look for the sentinel you described but he wasn't there. Also I tried to destroy these gauntlets but I couldn't, I'm sorry headmaster I failed you." Her head hung low in shame and sadness. The headmaster laid a hoof on her shoulder and lifted her chin.

"No you didn't fail me, I knew that this sentinel made the gauntlets out if black steel, I just needed to sure. Duster change of plans. I need you to hide these gauntlets somewhere they will not be found."

Duster nodded and trotted off. Thinking of the last place to find the gauntlets.

"Those gauntlets are very powerful, we all saw what he did white just one, he can't get the other three, if he does we won't be able to stop him." Lightning said.

Flash let out some winces as his cuts and bruises suddenly started to disappear.

"I agree with lightning if this griffon wishes to kill us with these gauntlets then we shall take the fight to him." She said.

"Don't worry Luna, with the elements of Harmony we'll defeat this griffon." Twilight proclaimed but Lightning stopped her.

"I'm afraid that the elements will do nothing to this griffon Princess Twilight, you see he is using sentinel magic, which is a completely different magic than yours. I'm sorry but I must ask you to stay away from this griffon."

The main six were a bit sadden by this news.

"So what are we just supposed to just sit here and do nothing?!" Rainbow yelled.

"Yes that's exactly what he's saying. Now then back to business, how do we stop this guy?" Shining asked.

"Well Bloodwing, which is a terrible nickname by the way, needs two gauntlets if he wants to attack us. So all we need to do is just get one of these gauntlets to foil his plans. With only one gauntlet his energy is limited, and considering how much of it he used earlier, I'd say he's running in fume's." Lightning said.

"My question is why would he come here?" Cadence asked weakly.

"CADENCE! Dear you need to rest, your not well." Shining said.

"I'm fine shining, really, but Lightning can you please answer my question?" She asked

"My biggest guess is one of the gauntlets are hidden here. If so we need to find it before Bloodwing gets his hooves on it, er...claws, technically speaking." Lightning replied.

"Great, by tomorrow we search for this gauntlet." Shining said.

It was late at the time so everyone left to head for bed. As Lightning headed to his room, Shining Armor walked up to him and asked him a question,

"Hey...Lightning right?" Shining Armor asked, lightning nodded a yes. "Okay, anyways...when you healed Cadence-." Lightning covered Shining's mouth with his hoof, and shushed him.

"Shining I know what your about to ask and I'll tell you that they are both fine." Lightning said.

Shining let out a sigh of relief "few, thank goodnes-, did you just say 'THEY'." Shining said his eyes widen.

"Whoops, I've said to much. Oh hey look it's my room, gottago." Lightning said quickly rushing into his room and locking the door. He made a sigh of relief when he heard hoof-steps start to fade away.

"Few, dogged that bullet." Lightning said out-loud. He then collapsed on the bed and immediately fell asleep.

Chapter 6 no more deaths

Lightning awoke to, well nothing really he just woke up, he decided it was best to get up and eat breakfast. He made his way to the mess hall. When he walked through the doors, he noticed the entire place was empty, he looked out the window to see it was still dark out. He then went behind the counter to find something to eat. When he found the cornflakes he grabbed the box.

"Hello." Said a childish voice.

The voice startled Lightning making himself fall backwards. He looked up to see a pair of yellow eyes, but these eyes were different. These yellow eyes were off. He looked at the mare that stood above the counter looking at Lightning. She was a mare with gray skin, blond hair, and distorted eyes.

"Uh...hello?" Lightning replied to the odd mare, she laughed a bit.

"I'm sorry sir that I startled you, I normally act before I think." She said.

"Uh-Huh..." Lightning said picking himself up and grabbing the corn flakes.

"So what are you doing up so early?"

"Getting a bite to eat, what are you doing here?"

"I wanted to be the first in line for the muffins." She said smiling. "Wait did I introduce myself?"

"No. No you didn't."

"Oh, well my name is ditzy do, or derpy for short."

"Uh-Huh."

Suddenly a red sealed scroll came out of nowhere and hit derpy in the face.

"Ow." She said.

The paper bounced off and rolled towards Lightning. Who picked it up and started to read it. After a few minutes he put the scroll down, got up, and grabbed derpys hoof and started to run off.

"Hey, but what about the muffins?" She said sadly. But smiled when Lightning gave her a muffin. They stood at a halt at a wall.

"Ok derpy I'm gonna tell you something that is sure to rock your world." Lightning said, derpy just kept eating her muffin.

"What ever goes on in this room, the world is not ready to know yet. Ok?" Lightning asked, derpy just kept eating her muffin.

"Ok here we go." Lightning said pushing a hidden button, suddenly a secret entrance started to open up

"Wait wha-ahhh." Derpy yelled as she was pulled into the cave below them.

Bloodwing entered a cave outside of The empire.

'If my sense's are correct the red gauntlet should be around here somewhere." Bloodwing thought as he walked through the dark and rough terrain cave. He looked around to see where it was but everything around him was pitch black.

He lifted up his gauntlet and a small green lightning bolt floated above the guantlet letting off light, as he walked deeper into the cave he soon came to the end of the cave.

'There you are.' In the center of the end stood the red gauntlet. As Bloodwing walked up to it his sense's went crazy. He knew the feeling. He felt it when he met that masked sentinel, he looked around to see where the sentinel was but was struck by lightning from the back.

He rolled on the ground by the impact but quickly got up and grabbed his sword. He looked to who shot him to see the masked sentinel with gold armor fly down.

'So the masked sentinel comes back to die. But wait, those eyes. There not the same as before.' Bloodwing thought. And he was right, before the sentinels eyes were blue, but these eyes were grey and colorless.

"If you think I'll let you take this gauntlet you are dead wrong." Said the masked sentinel.

The masked sentinel and Bloodwing started to circle around around the red gauntlet. Bloodwing gripped his sword tighter, while the masked sentinel reveled his two hidden blade's. They then charged at each other and clashed their swords.

Soarin awoke to the sound of hooves banging on his door. He got up and went to answer it. Once he opened his door there stood a grey mare Pegasus with a blond mane and crossed yellow eyes and was also wearing a saddle bag, Soarin knew who the mare was however.

"Hello ditzy." Soarin said rubbing his eye. "What can I do for you?"

"It's your cousin Lightning." she said. "He's gone!"

Soarin went into panic mode.

"What do you mean he's gone, gone as in missing, or gone as in dead?" He said grabbing her shoulders.

"Let me explain." She said explaining how she and Lightning had met and struck up a conversation.

"Ok we need to tell Flash this, maybe he knows we're Lightning ran off to." Soarin said jumping up and racing towards Flashes room, with derpy right behind him. As he reared around the corner he crashed right into Flash. Along with derpy crashing into Soarin. When she did a blue gauntlet fell out of her saddle bag and landed on the ground.

When Flash saw the blue gauntlet his eyes went wide as he looked to derpy who was rubbing her head.

"Where did you get that?" Asked Flash who's eyes were still wide.

When derpy looked at what Flash was pointing at she saw the blue gauntlet that fell out of her saddle bag. As soon as she laid eyes on it the rest of her memory's started to flow back.

And so are mine which is giving me THEE MOST PAINFUL ICE CREAM HEADACHE IN THE GALAXY!!!

As derpy was lead down some stairs she soon came to a room that had loads of strange things all around the room. But the one thing that caught her eye was a billboard that had the words in the middle of it said,

'Project Nightwing.'

She didn't know what was going on until Lightning went up to her and put a saddle bag on her.

"Umm...what is all of this?" She asked confused.

"The future derpy, and you have a big part to play in it." Lightning said putting the blue gauntlet into the saddle bag.

"Now you need to listen to everything I say, I'm going to be leaving this place, I don't know when I'll return, I don't know what will happen, all I know is there is something big is coming and I don't know if we're gonna stop it."

Derpy stared at him and was still confused.

"Here, this is a memory crystal. It has all of your memory's inside of it, when the time comes use it. But not now I'll let you know when." Lightning stopped in his place.

"He's here."

"Who's here?" Asked derpy.

"The griffon, Bloodwing. He's here. There's no more time, go get my cousin Soarin tell him nothing of what you see here, no one can know yet." With that said derpy flew off to go get Soarin.

When the memory came back to derpy, the three heard a scream come from the meeting room.

Bloodwing stood above Princess Luna his sword right above her heart. He had sliced Princess Cadences throat, Shining Armor was knocked out, Twilight was on the floor her wings bleeding, and Celestia was bleeding out.

"You have no idea how I have longed for this." Bloodwing said rising his sword ready to strike. "This is the day that griffons-." Bloodwing was cut off by the impact of orange lightning striking him. He flew across the room hitting the wall.

At the door stood, Flash, Soarin, The mane five, six elite guards, and derpy wearing the blue gauntlet.

"Rarity, Applejack, Fluttershy, Pinkie, Rainbow dash, and derpy, rescue the Princesses

The rest of you let's take this griffon down!" Flash yelled.

The plan soon went into motion, as the Princesses were carried away from the room. As they ran away Bloodwing saw his enemy's run off.

"No. NO!" He yelled getting to his feet, but was blocked by the guards. But they stood no chance against Bloodwing, he killed all six of them in seconds.

He then charged through Flash and Soarin and ran after the princesses.

"You will not be killing anyone else today Bloodwing!" Soarin yelled, him and Flash racing after him. Bloodwing stopped and smashed the floor sending Soarin and Flash flying backwards. He then ran outside to be greeted by ten wonderbolts. And spitfire who was at the head of them

"Your not going anywhere Bloodwing" she yelled.

"I don't have time for this." He said charge ping at the defensive squad.

Flash and Soarin soon ran outside to catch up to Bloodwing as they went outside they saw the horror that Bloodwing had left them. Lying dead were ten wonderbolts. But Soarin looked to see spitfire lying dead.

"No, NO!" He yelled running up to her. She had a sword sticking out of her heart, blood all over the place. Soarin lifted her head and put it to his, tears streaming down his face. He took the sword out of her chest and hugged her tight like she was a lost but now found teddy bear for a young girl.

Soarin then picked up the sword and fueled by rage teleported right behind Bloodwing and jabbed the sword into Bloodwings back. The griffon halted and reared back in pain. Hitting Soarin in the process. He glared at Soarin who glared back at Bloodwing in rage.

"You'll pay for that!" He yelled grabbing the sword and jabbing Soarin in the chest.

"Gah!" Soarin yelled in pain.

"Soarin!" Flash yelled as he flew to Soarin's side. "No, Soarin please."

Tears began to form in Flash's eyes. Suddenly his eyes turned red and his mane turned black and red. He turned at to see a startled Bloodwing in front of him.

Chapter 7 the aftermath

Flash eyes opened to see a nurse writing something down on a clipboard. He looked around and realized that he was in a hospital bed.

"Oh good your awake, the others have been quite worried about you." The nurse said.

"Others?" Flash murmured. Suddenly the door opened and walked in was Princess Luna.

"Princess Luna!" Flash said saluting.

"At ease Flash." She said. "I've come here to see how you are doing."

"I'm fine just a few bruises here and there."

"Good, because I have some important news for you and Soarin."

"And what might that be?"

"I'm beginning a education project for the Sentinel's starting in three days from now, I want you and Soarin to help train more Sentinel's so that we may keep Equestria safe."

"Really? Huh, Understood Princess." Flash said as the Princess of the Night trotted out. Flash then turned his attention the nurse that was still in the room.

"If you wouldn't mind me asking but where is my cousin, Soarin's, room?" Asked Flash.

"Room 138." Answered the nurse. "But you must rest first sir."

"Don't worry." Flash said as he got comfortable in his bed. "It won't take that long."

And like a light, Flash was out.

Meanwhile derpy was walking down the hall. She then stopped and looked around. When she was sure she was alone she pressed the hidden button and disappered down the stairwell. She headed towards a book with words on it that read,

'Did the plan work?'

'Derpy grabbed a quill and wrote,

'Yes, the plan worked. Bloodwing is dead, and the princesses are fine.' She wrote.

Then words started to form on the paper.

'And the death toll?' It read

'132 soldiers, and 13 wonderbolts.'

'Okay then, and Fladh and Soarin

'Alive.'

'Good, good. I want you to make sure that those two don't die okay?'

'Understood.'

'Good. End of letter.'

With that Derpy dropped the quill and trotted off towards the exit.

The door to Soarin's room opened up with a loud creak. To which Soarin was very annoyed about.

"Go away Flash." Soarin demanded.

"Can't a cousin see his cousin?" Flash asked sarcastically causing Soarin to glare at him. "Kidding..so how ha holding up?"

"Oh you know, my Best friend is dead, about a 1/3 of the Wonderbolts traines are dead, the princesses almost died, a deranged griffon nearly killed all of us, and what was that other thing again...uh..oh yea the Griffion kingdom is divided because their leader is DEAD!" Soarin said as he slumped back into his bed.

"*sigh* Your right, all that stuff has happened Soarin. I know how you must feel."

"HOW IN THE NAME OF CELESTIA COULD YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL RIGHT NOW?!?!" Shrieked Soarin.

Just then the thought of Flash sentry's break up with sunset Shimmer filled into both Soarin's mind and Flash's.

"Look...Flash I'm sorry. I shouldn't have gone there. I-" Soarin began but was cut off as Flash placed a hoof on his cousins shoulder.

"she's not dead." Flash said.

"Exucuse me?"

"Spitfire and the other wonderbolts and guards. Their all alive, they just suffered from heavy injurys." Flash stated.

"But-but, they all had fatal cut marks!"

"True, and they probably wouldn't have survive if we didn't have the four princesses with us here. Because of them their all alive. 'Xept Goldwing, cause yo know...sword to the neck.

"So...it nopony died?" Soarin asked.

"No, none has died except Bloodwing." Said a voice.

Soarin and Flash both turned to see princess Luna standing in the doorway.

"Ah princess, good to see you again. How may we help you?" Flash asked.

"I need to tell you something...secret." The lunar being said as she locked the door and casted a sound-proof bubble around the room.

"Secret how?" Soarin asked.

"I believe that Bloodwing was but a pawn in a bigger plan."

"Why do think he was a pawn?" Asked Flash.

"The sentinel code isn't easy to break Bloodwing must have been controlled." Luna said. "Tell me are there anymore Sentinel's that you know of?"

"Well there's Flash's brother and there's also that one guy in Ponyville." Soarin said. "Why?"

"I want you two to gather the two of them and bring them to me, once you do I will have a new task for you." Luna said as she put down the bubble and left. Soarin looked to see his cousin had a scowl on his face.

"Hey, what's wrong cuz?" He asked

"I'm not looking forward to meeting my old friend." Flash replied.

(In a cave far away)

"It appears Bloodwing has failed to kill the three Sentinel's." A dark stallion figure said.

"So it would seem, so much for poisoning his mind and making him turn on the other Sentinel's." A dark mare figure said.

"What's worse is that our plan may have caused their attention, and soon we'll have to deal with them!" Shouted another dark figure.

"ENOUGH!" A booming voice shouted, silencing the others. "I'm afraid that he is right, because of our actions we may have caused unwanted attention. But we'll have to deal with it later."

"But what about our plan?" The dark mare figure asked.

"Our plan is still in motion, but only now we must move faster. Dismissed."

The three dark figures left the room leaving the voice alone to ponder his thoughts.
