Memories
Trixie was deep in thought as she moved rock by rock with her glowing pink aurora. That was basically all there was to do on this rock farm. The land was dry and the sky was grey, all that would be possibly entertaining was work and think.
So that’s what she did.
This gave her all the time she needed to plan her revenge on the one who caused her to take such a lowly job: Twilight Sparkle. She also had time to think about what had happened the last time she was at ponyville.
Everything was going great, ponies adored her, and everypony believed she could do anything, two little colts even helped her around with stuff. Sure she admits that she was a bit harsh with them but still, if she was to prove she was powerful then she couldn’t show she had any soft spots.
She remembered when six other ponies came by that the rest of her audience was starting to lose faith in her at their remarks. She panicked and thought of the only thing that would captivate the ponies in front of her. For it was only a little fib. She really had once vanquished a bear and sent it back to its cave.
She just lied about the type of bear.
Trixie scowled as she remembered the two foolish little colts who released the Ursa Major, which turned out to be a minor instead. Her cover was totally blow to pieces! Then that little showoff Twilight Sparkle stepped in to save the day! She bested the Great and Powerful Trixie. Everypony then knew the truth.
Trixie had failed. Again.
The unicorn growled as she shook her head, eager to trash the memory, all she needed to know was how she could get her revenge. Sadly, the thoughts of Ponyville haunted her and they haunted her ever since they happened. The main reason why, she completely understood. She had failed.
Trixie grabbed her hammer off the dusty ground and looked back to the rock she had just levitated from the pile she had to do left. Tired of breaking rocks with nothing to do, she tried to think of all the good time she had had. Sadly for her, they also had turned into fails but she recalled them anyways.

“Trixie!” A voice called out from the other room.
The pony in question turned away from her tower of colorful blocks to look at the voice that called her name.
She turned her head towards the direction of the voice before seeing three shadows drift into the hallway. With a devious little smile, she swiftly crawled past her tower of blocks, careful not to make it collapse.
With little time to spare, Trixie took hold of a stay blanket on the floor in her mouth and, with effort, carried it over to her little desk. As quickly as she crawled to get there, she tossed the blanket over the desk, leaving the hole at the bottom of the desk covered in the front. This created a little hideout for the unicorn foal who eager ducked behind the blanket.
Not long after a cyan blue unicorn mare was in the doorway to her room, she had a white and light pink striped mane that fell over her shoulders, her purple eyes scanned the room for her precious daughter. Behind her was a minty green unicorn mare, her milky pink colored mane was put in a bun with a bit of loose mane coming out of the bottom. On this mares back was another minty green unicorn, this one a foal. She had the same pink mane but with little sparks of orange at the tips of her pigtails.
“Trixie sweetie!” The first mare called out, her voice as sweet as honey. “Where are you? Minty Twist is here to play!” She called again in a sing song voice. She took a step inside the room and looked around for her target.
Said target let out a small muffled giggle from behind the blue and red blanket covering the miniature desk. All three heads snapped around to face the sound in an instant. The cyan unicorn gave a little nod to the only other grown mare in the room who gave a pleased smile and took the foal off her back.
At touching the ground, Minty Twist scurried over to the little hideout. She poked the blanket, a few times earning another giggle from the occupant on the other side. Pleased that her answers were confirmed, the minty colored foal ducked under the blanket and into the little cave. Almost a two seconds later Trixie ran out giggling and screaming as she was chased by her friend.
This went on for about a minute, Trixie running around in circles, with Minty following close behind until Trixie bumped into her mother’s hoof, followed by Minty Twist running into Trixie after trying to come to an abrupt stop. The two foals laughed and giggled while they untangled themselves. Seeing as they needed a bit of help, the two mothers levitated their respective daughters off the ground then back onto their hooves.
Trixie shouted something the two older ponies couldn’t make out, though they watched as Minty Twist nodded and followed Trixie over to her block tower. Together they started making other towers by stacking colorful blocks onto others, probably on their way to make a town. Seeing as the two babies were happy and comfortable. The two grown ponies left, but not without putting the foal monitor onto the dresser and turning it on.
Trixie and Minty Twist hardly noticed their parents leaving the room, for they were too much into their activity to notice anything going on around them. After some time of destroying and making new shaped and sizes of “buildings”, Trixie started collecting all the blue blocks. She put a blue block on another and another onto that one and repeated it until she could not reach the top.
Once she was satisfied. She looked over to her friend to show her but stopped to see what she was doing. Minty Twist was looking around for something but Trixie didn’t know what. That was when the minty unicorn turned around and gasped at the sight of all the blue blocks in Trixie’s pile. The cyan unicorn gestured proudly at her tower but gave a confused look when instead of praise she got a different response.
“‘EY!” Minty shouted loudly as she grabbed the second to the bottom block. This caused the whole tower to fall, blocks landing on both unicorns before they could even think of what was going to happen next. When the raining of wood was over they rubbed their throbbing heads, Trixie recovered first and glared as the destructor.
“EY!” She shouted back, her eyes tearing up from the pain. She looked down at what used to be her extremely large castle and saw a green hoof picking them up. “NO!” She shouted again as she watched Minty Twist forcefully collect and shove the blocks into her grasp. Seeing as her friend wouldn’t stop, Trixie started grabbing blocks that were not already picked up. Once she couldn’t grab any more she threw them behind herself and out of reach to the pony in front of her.
Of course Minty saw this and stuck her tongue out and blew a raspberry, she was about to turn around until a hoof grabbed a block from hers. “SOP!” She shouted as Trixie started tugging her blocks away. Seeing that Trixie almost had half her blocks, Minty’s horn glowed brown and so did the blocks behind the other unicorn. Trixie, oblivious to what was going on behind her, took advantage of the loss of attention and started grabbing at the loose blocks from Minty’s grip.
While Trixie grabbed the last three blocks she could, she happily turned around where she found: Nothing. “Huh?” She squeaked in confusion. Completely abandoning her small amount of blocks onto the floor, she turned around to see her other blocks in the magic of Minty, who was not facing her. “Tha’ my!” She shouted angrily and hit Minty Twist on the head, who shouted in protest and turned to face her attacker.
By now in the other room, the two mothers had heard the argument and was wondering what was going on? They quickly put down their cups of tea and decided to go check on their young ones.
“OW!” Shouted Minty Twist as she wildly put her hooves on her head where she was hit. “Na!” She hit back with what little strength she had. Which Trixie eagerly returned with her own grunt of effort. They both ended up wildly smacking at each other until the door opened. Their undivided attention was shot to the doorway and the two mares standing in it. That was until Minty Twist decided to land the last blow, picking up a block with her brown magic and tossing it at Trixie.
The mothers gasped at the Minty’s foal’s behavior. “Minty Twist!” Scolded her mother. “I taught you to respect your friends and other ponies!!!” The foal shrunk under her mother’s piercing glare.
That’s when all ponies noticed the cyan foal was trying to use magic against her friend too! Her horn sparked pink multiple times before a block was taken captive in the sparkling force. It only rose a few inches in the air until her horn let go and the block dropped to the ground. Trixie then settled for just picking up the block and throwing it at her target.
“Trixie Lulamoon! Apologize!” Her mother’s soft sweet voice was replaced with harshness that the filly knew she only heard when she was in deep trouble. Her ears pinned against her head as she took shrunk back and away from her mother.
Hesitantly, she turned towards her friend. “Sworry.” She said so quietly her mother commanded she repeated. “Sworry!” She obeyed, earning a nod of approval from the mare.
“And Minty Twist, what do you say.” The foal huffed and turned away, her nose high in the air, but reconsidered when her mother gave her a rough nudge to the rump, encouraging her to listen.
“Sowwy.” She huffed.
“I’m sorry about this Mocha Swirl.” Trixie’s mother sighed. “I’m going to give Trixie a stern talking to when this is over.” She said while picking up all the blocks from around the glaring foals.
“Its fine Wanda, I think we’ll go now, I need to remind Minty Twist how being a friend works.” As Mocha Swirl said that, she levitated her daughter onto her back and left the room, Minty Twist quickly blew a raspberry again before her and her mother disappeared.
“Have a good evening!” Wanda shouted towards the door. She then turned to Trixie who had her hooves crossed, glaring at the ground. “Trixie, you know better than to hit, especially when it’s another pony.” She scolded, but her features softened when Trixie’s eyes started to water and her hoof massaged the base of her horn. “And I told you not to over work yourself when trying to use magic.” She sighed as the last word came out.
A few tears escaped the unicorns purple eyes as the throbbing continued. Wanda sighed again. “Come here, let me see.” She reached out and took her daughter on her hooves and carried her over to the bed. She gently sat down and placed Trixie on her lap. The teary eyed foal look up at her mother, her concerned, warm, motherly eye were just what Trixie needed to see right now.
Wanda’s hoof slowly felt around her horn, after a while of inspecting, her horn glowed a light purple and it surrounded the base of Trixie’s horn. The effect was almost immediate as the pained expression washed off her face completely and was replaced with a comforted smile as the healing spell did its job. When it was finished, the hue left both places and disappeared out of existence.
Trixie hugged her mother as an indication of a job well done and Wanda slowly patters her daughter’s mane. “It’s okay, I guess it’s never too early to start looking for magic classes.” She told herself. The grip her daughter had on her loosened and a soft snoring filled the room. Wanda Giggled softly to herself, Trixie must have used a lot of energy when using her magic. She gently lifted the snoozing baby and laid her gently into the bed and pulled the covers over to tuck her in.
Trixie grabbed a nearby teddy bear and started to snuggle it. Wanda leaned down as kissed her cheek. “One day, you’ll be as great and powerful as your great, great, great, great, grandfather Stars Swirl the bearded.” She then nuzzled the same cheek before heading towards the door and turning off the light. “And we’ll be so proud.” Wanda whispered before closing the door and leaving out of sight.

The unicorn mare sighed as her memory finished, in the distance, she heard the house door shut. Probably one if the sisters of the parents. Sure enough, once Trixie finished the last rock from her pile, Igneous Rock walked up to her. She smile at him, pleased with her look and anxious to see his reaction for this is the most work she had been able to do in such short amount of time! Unfortunately that "reaction" she was looking for was him gesturing to a whole new rock pile.
Her jaw dropped at the size. It seems that while she was lost in thought, Inky, Blinky, and Maud had made a new pile for her to crush. Seeing as his demand was noticed, Igneous Rock and no more to do with Trixie and decided to take his leave. Trixie stared unblinking at the rocks for a while until she finally sighed, accepted her fate, and got to work.
Thinking to pass the time, she thought on to the next memory.
~~
Trixie and her mom entered through the giant wooden double doors of the castle and was almost immediately greeted with the tail end of the line. Today was the day Trixie decided her future. Nope! She wasn't nervous... Not one bit...
"Trixie, honey." Wanda soothed. "Are you alright?" She placed a gentle and understanding hoof on her daughters shoulder, shocking her out of her thoughts. "It's alright to be nervous."
Once fully grasping reality, the filly scoffed. "Mom, the great and powerful Trixie does not get nervous." She protested. Her voice containing mature confidence with the slightest bit of whining doubt. With a flick of her mane she continued. "All I have to do is pass a measly little test, become the Princesses student, and create success just like great, great, great, great, great grandpa Star Swirl the Bearded and make the whole Lulamoon family proud!"
Despite trying to be cool and act natural about all this, Trixie couldn't help but beam and jump around her mother in excitement. "I'm going to totally ace this mom! Just you wait! I've been practicing for months and everything!!!"
Wanda giggled at her daughter's behavior as they moved up in line. "I know you will sweetie!" She encouraged. The line took forever but maybe two ponies were able to pass the time by quietly playing small games and telling stories! By the time Wanda finished her story, they were next in line and waiting at the door.
They took a sneak peak at the pony ahead and Trixie almost immediately regretted it. The pony in there looked a bit only than Trixie. She had a bright pink mane with bright blue stripes and had an orange coat and she looked determined. The three ponies at the top of the stairs looked down at her, constantly writing notes. They told her she needed to hatch the dragon egg to in.
She agreed and called it a piece of cake before her horn went alight. The confident smirk was like wildfire, it spread across her face quickly when the egg lit up with the same sparkly aurora and started the shake fiercely but just as quickly died when the egg was let go and nothing had happened. She looked at it in confusion before looking up at the judges who were scribbling furiously on their papers before looking back down at her.
Trixie noticed the filly gulp before attempting the spell again. Her horn sparked to life once more as her spell lifted the egg and it, once again, began to shake violently before softly falling back into the comfort of its nest. The sound of scribbling started up again as the exhausted filly gave a sigh of defeat and the judges gave a shake of their head in disapproval.
“Next!” One of the judges called.
In a wink, Trixie’s confidence was gone. There was no way she would be able to make it! Trixie felt her mom nudge her forward but she just stood stock still. She couldn’t do it! She’ll just walk in, fail, and disappoint everypony!
“NEXT!” The judge called impatiently.
“It’s okay Trixie.” Wanda’s soothing voice was just what the filly needed to hear. “You can do it, I know you can.” And with those last four words, Trixie got half her confidence back, enough to walk through the doors. Upon entering she was greeted by four frowns and an impatient harsh voice.
“Alright.” The mare started. “Let’s get this over with. You are to use a spell- any spell, to hatch this dragon egg. You are NOT allowed to hit or throw the egg in anyway or do anything to harm the creature inside.” She finished. Trixie nodded and looked over at her mother for support. Wanda was leaning against the green wall, a sweet smile plastered on her face as her hoof motioned for her to continue.
Hesitantly, Trixie looked back at the judges then at the egg before her. It was red with orange stripes. Trixie inhaled and exhaled a deep breath before as she readied her spell. ‘Alright Trixie.’ She thought to herself. ‘This is it, mom is counting on you.’ Her horn lit pink and so did the egg. Somehow, she couldn't seem to focus. All the pressure was crushing her! Her whole family was expecting her to get this right, she couldn’t let them down!
But… What if she couldn’t? The negative thoughts running through her mind were just too much! She glance over at the egg, it took looked like it was under too much pressure. It was straining and shaking slightly, as if it was holding something heavy and trying not to crack! Then she noticed. ‘That’s how I feel...’ She remembered a lesson she was taught in magic kindergarten. ‘You must be careful what you think, a mind is what controls the magic.’ Realization struck so hard, she almost said it out loud!
“Ahem.” One of the judges grunted. “Continue.” He said impatiently.
Trixie now knew what to do. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath before slowly letting it out. Then, with effort, Trixie forgot about all that stress and worry that was keeping her from completing her goal. As she thought of her family she felt the stress trying to push its way through, but pushed herself to ignore it. She instead thought of the love they have for her. The warmth of their hugs, the kindness they give in when they kiss her on the cheek. Trixie suddenly felt warmth wash over her, it wasn’t uncomfortable, and it was like drinking hot coco after a long day of snowball fights.
Before she could think of anything else, there was a loud CRACK. Fearing the worst, Trixie’s eyes shot open and she nearly lost her grip on the eg- no, baby dragon! She quickly regained her thoughts and fixed her mistake before anypony had noticed her slip. Her jaw dropped at the sight of the red striped dragon in her magical grip. Only two sounds could be heard at the moment, the sound of Trixie’s magic and the scribbling of pencils on paper.
Trixie, being as surprised was she was, looked in the direction of her mom. Wanda looked back with tears in her eyes, she looked so happy! She was clapping and standing so straight it looked like she grew 2 feet taller during the little time the spell was cast, her smile so big it literally took up half her face. Trixie just stood there, staring at her mother and soaking in the silent waves of praise that her mother was sending her way. Only taking her eyes away when the door on the other side of the room opened and Trixie’s eyes grew two times their size when that special pony came into the room.
Princess Celestia.
She walked across the room, only stopping when she was just a few inches away from the young mare. Trixie just stared up in awe at the pony standing in front of her. “P-Princess Celestia?!” She gasped before dropping to the floor quickly, though not as smoothly as her mom had once taught her. The princess gave a soft chuckle.
“Please rise.” She motioned with a hoof to which Trixie obeyed without hesitation. Trixie saw the monarch glance behind her. “You too.” She chuckled again as Wanda then rose and trotted over to her daughter.
“Y-your majesty.” She stammered. “I-it’s a P-pleasure to meet you!” She said quickly and breathlessly.
“And you too Mrs. Lulamoon.” The princess replied. She then looked down at the gaping filly. “Hello, what’s your name?” She asked gently.
“T-Trixie.” She stammered. “Y-you’re Princess Celestia.” She said still breathless. “A-Are you Princess Celestia?” She asked strangely as if in a trance.
Celestia, familiar with this behavior, nodded. “I believe I am.” Before she could register anything else, she nearly tripped as a blue blur started bouncing around her hooves.
“YOU’RE PRINCESS CELESTIA! YOU’RE PRINCESS CELESTIA! I’M MEETING PRINCESS CELESTIA!!!!” Trixie shouted, jumping around and around the Princess, weaving in and out of her hooves.
“Trixie!” Wanda scolded. “We do not behave that way in the presents for royalty.” Even though she was glaring at the filly, Trixie could still see the excitement and disbelief if in her eyes. Trixie knew her mother was just trying to make a good first impression so she played along.
“Yes mom, sorry your highness.” She apologized. Slowly coming out of her spot from under Celestia and taking a new spot by her mom who smiled at her obedience.
“Oh, it’s quite alright.” Celestia assured. “I was just coming over here to tell you that out of all the children so far, you’re the first one to properly hatch the egg.” She commented, her voice laced with fondness. “I would like to personally welcome you to my school for gifted unicorns!” The two ponies could not move or think or talk. This was the best day for the both of them!
Slowly Celestia leaned her head down and whispered in Trixie’s ear: “You’d you like me to show you around the castle?” Without hesitation Trixie agreed.
“YES, YES, YES, YES!!!” She then realized what she was doing and cleared her throat. “I-I mean… Mom? Can I got with Princess Celestia so she can show me around the castle?” Both ponies gave an amused laugh before Wanda nodded. With that Celestia and Trixie left.
Though it was a short tour, it was the best thing Trixie had ever done! Celestia had told her all about the classes and her spot for a personal student. She said that so far Trixie had the spot, but if anything came up it may change, but Trixie didn’t care. She practiced, she worked hard, and she made it this far. The position would be all hers!
Unfortunately, that night they received an apology letter saying something had come up and that Trixie’s spot had been taken.
~♥~
Trixie sighed in exhaust as she finished breaking down the final pile of rocks for the day. Even though time seemed to fly by while she took her mind off it, didn’t mean it wasn’t tiring. She yawned, she was mentally and physically tired today. Luckily this was her last day on this dreaded farm. She slowly walked across the dusty ground and only grounded to a halt when she reached the door.
She knocked and waited a moment for them to respond. Soon they did and handed her the pay she earned and she was off to the train station. After grabbing a quick bite to eat in a nearby town, Trixie boarded the next train. The velvety carpet felt much better against her hooves than the dust and the hardwood floors. She took a seat by the window and waited for the train to move along, as she waited she watched other passengers go by. Ponies all different shapes, colors, and sizes. She had no idea why she found entertainment in this.
After a while, the train still hadn’t boarded and she was starting to think of her plans against Twilight Sparkle. While she was doing this, a hooded pony came by and stopped at her seat.
“Can I sit here? Or is this spot taken?” He questioned. His voice rough but mysterious. The only thing that showed of his face was a brown muzzle peeking out of the shadows of his coat. Something told Trixie this guy was bad news but another part of her said ‘Why the hay not?!’
What was the harm in letting him sit there? It wasn’t like they would be cramped together. “Trixie guesses it’s alright.” She replied. He gave a short nod and dropped his satchel on the seat before taking a seat himself. Ignoring that there was a strange pony sitting right next to her, Trixie went back to planning her revenge. Unbeknownst to her the pony was listening to her when she was whispering to herself or muttering a disagreement to a plan that would most certainly fail.
He then spoke up when he figured out what she was going on about. He cleared his throat. “Excuse me miss?” By now the train had departed and started on its way to wherever it was going. Trixie looked away from the window after watching almost an hour of the land zoom by. “I couldn’t help but notice you are trying to get revenge on somepony?” She continued.
She strangely nodded.
He quickly dug in his bad before looking around to see if anypony was listening or watching them, he then pulled out a paper and handed it to Trixie. It was an advertisement of what looked like a necklace with a red jewel in the middle. “What’s this?” She asked, truly curious now.
“It’s called the Alicorn Amulet.” He replied in a whisper. “It gives you the power to contain magic of the highest of levels.” Pointing a hoof at the paper he added. “It will be sure to give this pony what she deserves.”
“It looks mighty dangerous.” The magician observed.
He nodded slowly. “Only in the hooves of a dummy, though you, look like you're an expert when it comes to magic.”
Trixie sighed. Boy did it feel good to be praised again. “I think I may take you up on your offer. Where is it?”
He examined his hoof before answering. “I could tell you for just a little price.”
“Deal.”
Author's Note
Hello ponies/peoples who are reading this. Hopefully you enjoyed this little journey to Trixie's past. For me, most ponies- wait why am I talking in ponies? Most people are mean or bullies because something has happened in the past. If they are being mean to be mean... then they stink, no excuses.
I hope you don't mind me making Star Swirl the Bearded related to Trixie. I also wasn't sure how old he would be, of course he is dead but I'm just saying he is her great, great, great, great, great (I think) grand father.
Edit: Almost forgot, this is Minty Twist:
