Chapters Sombra had been in this cage for month since his defeat........his second defeat. Some purple unicorn and her pet dragon had found the crystal heart and returned it to the crystal ponies. Ever since that he had also gotten memories and visions of his past. Almost as if the crystal heart was giving it to him. One vision in particular is coming back to him often..........Luna. Before the magic he and Luna were very close, some would even consider it love. Of course Sombra was terrible in distinguishing such feelings. The only thing he had to clue him off was the fact that every time he saw her face in his visions Sombra's heart beat a mile a minute and once the vision faded he felt this sort of strange desire. His heart would drop to his hooves and a wave of sadness would wash over him. It hadn't been very long since he had just gotten over another vision of her.......she was laughing. Oh how he wished that he could hear that laugh again in real life.
Sombra was sitting in the corner of his cage, his head to the ground and small frown on his face. The visions of Luna made certain feelings resurface that he had forgotten he could even possess. There was a creaking sound as the large dungeon doors opened letting light leak through. Sombra paid it no mind. The puddle of water he was staring into very briefly showed once again Luna's face. "Luna," he said.
"No, it's Cadence," said a pink alicorn mare,"how do you know aunt Luna," Cadence said eyeing Sombra suspiciously.
"What?" he said snapping back to attention. "Who said that?"
"Me, now i will ask one more time. How do you know aunt Luna."
"I would rather not speak of it."
"You were asked a question, now answer it!" said the guard that undoubtedly accompanied Cadence down to his cell.
"Can he at least leave if I must tell you," Sombra said exasperated.
"How do i know you won't use your magic to attack the princess if I leave," said the guard.
"Are you seriously worried about that? I'm in more chains than i ever though possible and you are using every magic suppression spell in the books. There is nothing I could possibly do to her."
"I will be fine, you don't even have to go to far if it makes you feel better."
"Fine, but only because you want this not me," the guard said tuning to leave.
"Alright, we're alone now, so tell me. How do you know my aunt Luna?"
Sombra sighed as he began recounting the events that led him to come to know Luna. "Well I met Luna on the day of the summer sun celebration, there was a time before the magic, though i cant recall much. Anyways Luna was just as much a child as me and would often go out into Canterlot just to have fun. Anyways she was at the park looking out over a lake so naturally i went over to introduce myself. We were in the middle of a conversation and lost track of time. Anyway once we realized what time it was Luna rushed off to go raise the moon. Not before promising to come back the next the day. Our friendship grew quickly and after some time i felt myself feeling.... closer than i normally would for anyone. Anyway that's how i knew her."
"You loved her."
"That's ridiculous, even before the darkness i never grew that close to anypony."
"Anyone can fall in love Sombra, besides, I am the princess of love i can sense it in you."
Sombra looked up at Cadence,"I miss her."
"I think i can help you."
"How?"
"Well love is as strong as friendship, if not stronger. If you truly love Luna then i could possibly dis spell most of the dark magic."
"Ya most, what about the magic that's left?"
"That's up to you to get rid of it. My magic can only do so much."
"Oh and how am i supposed to do that?"
"Simple, you have to prove that the magic doe not affect who you once were."
"Because that's just going to be so easy," Sombra said with a snort.
"I said it was simple, not easy, are you in or not?"
Sombra was about to say no, then an image popped into his head, one of Luna's sweet smile and kind eyes. "I'm in."
Cadence's horn began glowing a bright blue. The glow became brighter and brighter until it looked almost white. Then the magic blasted strait into Sombra's heart. Before he could see the rest everything went dark.
when Sombra awoke Cadence was standing in his cell and most of the chains that had kept him still had been removed. "Did it work?" Sombra gasped at how differently his voice sounded. It sounded like the voice of a normal stallion, like it could be kind. He also felt much less angry.
"It worked. Granted the only thing that still hasn't changed is your horn. Anyway the guards agreed to let you go free as long as i was around to keep an eye on you," Cadence said as she undid the last of the chains and helped Sombra to his feet.
"Do you really think Luna could still love me?"
"I do, but only if you can show her that you can change."
"Thank you."

And that concludes the prologue please give me some feedback on what you think. This is my first fic so I'm excited to see where it will go and what you think. I have been planning to write this fic for ages and cant wait for you guys to read it.ENJOY cant wait to dive into the real story just had to give some backround knowleadge on what was actually going on.
Today was like any other for Luna, she lowered the moon so her sister could raise the sun, had breakfast, and was currently listening to a court meeting with her sister. "You stole my mother's necklace!" shouted one pony.
"I did no such thing!" cried the other. Luna was trying hard not to laugh, it was a ridiculous, especially since she was sure that the stolen necklace was around the defendants neck.
"Order, order in the court!" The noise died down,"Thank you, now can you provide anything that shows what the necklace looked like Miss Rain?"
"I can actually, this is a picture of my mother wearing the necklace, this picture was taken yesterday, and now the necklace is gone." The judge levitated the photo to his face for inspection. After staring at it for a few moments he lowered the photo.
"I see,and it is the same necklace around your neck. The necklace is to be returned to Miss Rain, that concludes the trial. Your dismissed," the judge turned to leave and ponies began filing out of the court room through the large double doors.
The next few hours went by slowly and having nothing more to do Luna returned to her room. The room was large and simple, it consisted of a bed, nightstand and a desk with a lamp and some scrolls, Quills and ink. There was also a bookshelf with some history books, novels and Luna's diary in the very back. She pulled out one of the history books and flopped down on her bed to get comfortable. Luna flipped to the page she had left off at last night. She found that a lot of interesting things in the last thousand years. Luna had been reading for a few hours before she heard a knock on her door. She lowered the book and said,"come in."
A white alicorn stepped in and shut the door. "Hey Lulu, what are you reading?" Celestia asked.
Luna showed her the cover and said," I sure missed a lot in the last thousand years."
Celestia looked sympathetic,"well your here now Luna. Tell you what, how about we go out, anywhere you want."
"Really?"
"Really. So where do you want to go?"
Luna thought about this for a second before she heard her stomach growling. Luna and Celestia laughed before she answered,"well how about we go out to eat?"
"Ok little sister, besides i'm hungry to, Let's go without the guards." Celestia and Luna walked out of Luna's room and told the guards that they were heading out and wished to go alone.
*******
"Welcome, what would you like princess Luna,"the waiter asked.
"Could i get a cucumber sandwich?"
"Of course, coming right up," the waiter turned to leave.
"Well Lulu, what do you think?"
"I think that this is great Tia, it feels nice to go somewhere and not have people looking at me in fear or disgust." Luna looked down as she remembered life before she became Nightmare Moon.
Celestia looked at Luna and said,"there is bound to be a long adjustment period. for you and every pony else. Things will go back to normal soon..... or as normal as it could possibly get."
"Ya, AS normal as it can get. It will never be entirely normal again. Most could forgive that but not all. On top of that no one will ever forget what i tried to do."
The waiter returned levitating some trays behind and apologized about the wait as she sat them down in front of Luna and Celestia. "It's not a problem," Luna said. "It looks delicious, thank you."
Luna levitated her sandwich to her mouth and took a bite out of it.
"Alright Luna, where are we going after this?"
"That lake in the park is still there right?"
Celestia smiled,"Completely untouched. I didn't let anyhitng happen to it, I knew about how much you liked it and made sure it was still there for when you returned."
Luna looked up at her sister,"You did that for me?"
"If I had to choose between saving you and keeping the throne the answer would still be to save you."
"I don't deserve something like that."
"Luna, you have no idea what your talking about."
"But what about Nightmare Moon?"
"That was just as much my fault as it was yours."
"What do you mean sister?" Luna asked setting down her sandwich.
"You were going through a hard time and I was always so busy with my job or wishing to be alone that I never bothered to notice how you must have felt. If I had just set my work aside for a few moments to pay attention to you Nightmare Moon may have never been. I'm sorry I wasn't there for you when you were there for me little sister." Celestia said as she looked down at her food. The two sisters quickly finished their meal. Luna made sure that the waiter got a generous tip while Celestia paid for the meal.
"Well Tia, are we ready?"Luna said impatiently wanting to see the lake again after a thousand years.
"Yes Lulu, we can go now," Celestia said chuckling.
They reached the park and Luna noticed that it was completely untouched. "Tia, you did more than make sure the lake was still there. The whole place looks EXACTLY like it did a thousand years ago."
"Well I thought you would like to see at least one familiar thing when you returned."
Luna walked up to the lake and stepped into the shallows. All at once memories of all the good times she had here came flooding into her mind. Luna couldn't help but give a small smile as she thought about the stallion she met here. Of course this was followed by the day the darkness took control of him and she quickly brushed the memory aside. "Well Luna, what do you think?" Celestia said snapping her back into the present.
"It's perfect, thank you Tia, I really needed something familiar right about now."
"I thought you might, anyway let get back before the guards send out a search party because we came home late."
Luna laughed and they began the walk home. Just as they walked in the doors to the castle a guard came running up to them. "Princess Luna, Princess Celestia, it's good that you came back when you did."
Luna and Celestia looked at each other before Luna spoke," What seems to be the problem?"
"Well---uh---Princess Cadence is in the throne room, she requested an audience with you. There is also, umm, someone with her. Come with me," The guard said turning back the way he came. Luna and Celestia looked at each other and shrugged before following the guard into the throne room. When they reached the door to the throne room the guard said,"Would you like me to come with you princess?"
"No thank you, you can wait out here," Luna said as the doors to the throne room opened.
"Of course your majesty."
Luna and Celestia walked in to the throne room where they were met by the smiling face of Cadence. "Aunt Luna, so glad you came," She said.
"Of course, now we were told that someone accompanied you here?"
"Oh right," Cadence stepped aside to reveal a tall figure behind her.
"Luna, it's been such a long time."
Luna took a few steps back gaping,"Sombra!"

Hope you enjoyed the chapter, maybe I will get a new one out as soon as tomorrow but you know, no promises. Also if you know who did the cover art tell them I love it. Again feed back would be nice, knowing what you all think will really improve my skills for future fics. This is my first I'm really proud of it so far. Keep your eye out for the next chapter.
"Sombra!" Luna could not believe her eyes. Was this real? she thought. No, no this couldn't be real. Sombra was in the dungeon, far, far away. and yet there he was, standing in front of her clear as the moon in the night sky.
Cadence smiled," auntie Luna, you never told me you knew Sombra on a personal level." The smile on her face was so innocent.
"Cadence Sombra is dangerous, step back so you don't get hurt," Celestia said as her horn began to glow in a bright pale yellow.
"Aunt Celestia no!" Cadence said as she stood in the sun goddess's way. "I know how dangerous he was before but he is good now," Cadence sighed. "I know all to well how dangerous he was, do you really think I would bring him here if I knew he would attack? I'm not saying I think he was the best pony when he returned but I know he isn't completely gone."
"And what possibly led you to believe such things?" Celestia said, her horn still glowing at the ready if Sombra made a move.
Luna still couldn't believe it, here, standing right in front of her, was Sombra. She remembered him, they used to be good friends a thousand years ago. It was why she wanted to see that lake. It was a childish reason but Luna wanted to see that lake because it reminded her of him. Him before the darkness. Luna wanted to see that lake because that was where she was the last place she was truly happy before she was banished. Luna and Sombra were young, teenagers actually. He was a carefree stallion and she was a princess with responsibilities, responsibilities to her people and her kingdom. Luna would often go to the lake at that park when things got really stressful. Sure life as a princess had it's upsides but the real downfall was the loss of freedom. Luna had a duty to her kingdom from the moment she was able to tap into her magic at will. She never really got to act her age, be a child. Luna and Celestia were disciplined and educated at a very young age. On top of this Luna's responsibilities as princess of the night were very time consuming. When she was at the lake she could let her guard down. Luna was able to be alone, no guards, no important title, and most importantly, no royal duties. She could just sit and relax. Then he showed up.
Luna was sitting by the lake letting out all of the day's frustrations as she relaxed in the soft grass, her hooves dipped in the shallows of the shimmering water as she watched the ripples dancing around her hooves. "I wish things could always be this peaceful," she sighed.
Luna was basking in the calmness of everything when she heard hoofsteps coming towards her. "Oh, apologies, didn't expect somepony to be here," said the pony that walked up.
Luna turned to see a tall dark grey stallion standing behind her," tis perfectly alright, thou must enjoy this peaceful place as much as thyself," Luna answered.
When the stallion realized who she was he instantly bowed, "highness, I didn't think somepony such as you would find such a place as this important enough to come to," the stallion replied.
Luna scoffed," rise, and please don't, I came here to get away from all of that not have somepony walk up and instantly jump to such behavior at the sight of thee."
The stallion rose," of course, where are thy manners, I'm Sombra," he said extending a hoof in greeting.
Luna accepted it and replied," Luna, of course I presume thou hast known this already."
"Everypony knows you, if you don't mind thy asking, what is it that brings somepony such as thou here?" Sombra asked.
"Today has left thee drained and I simply came to get far away from it all. I come here often to simply relax."
"Completely understandable, I thyself do just the same on the hard days."
"Really," Luna replied.
"Oh yes, often in fact. I never could have known that thou hast done the same on some such days. Never thought such a mare as you could ever feel drained from it all. I mean, the food, the home, the stallion that no dougt line up trying to get somepony such as you."
"Being royalty is not nearly as glamorous as you make it sound. The suitors get beyond annoying when they keep returning after i make thyself clear that they will have to look somewhere else. While the food is delicious and the home glamorous, the responsibility is unbearable," Luna said.
"Hmm, never thought about that." Sombra looked at Luna," I also never thought about how thou dost it and manage to look as beuatiful as you," the stallion said.
"He is capable of being released of the magic entirely!" Cadence yelled. This brought Luna out of her thoughts and back to the present.
"He's dangerous!" Celestia countered.
Sombra stepped forward and raised his hoof as a show of peace so Celestia would not fire. "Please, I know my past actions have been.... questionable, but may I speak?"
Luna nodded to Celestia and she reluctantly dropped her spell," my sister has agreed to let you speak so say what you will but if I take it as a threat towards the well being of my people in any way I won't hesitate in ending you," the sun goddess said.
Sombra nodded," as is only fair."
Something was different about him Luna noticed. That's when it hit her, his voice. It didn't sound like that of the evil tyrant, but that of a normal stallion..... kind of.
Sombra looked at Luna and slowly walked toward her. "Luna, please, I know I don't deserve it but would you give me another chance? Your niece has opened my eyes to something I should have noticed long ago."
"And what would that be?" Luna said trying not to let her nervousness show. She stood tall and hoped she looked confident because she felt like her legs would give at any moment. Luna did not want how weak she felt to show.
"That I want to be near you," he said. "I want nothing more than to be near you, please give me another chance."

Reformation
Luna drowsily sat up in her bed, the covers were tossed and twisted around her in a very undignified way. "I guess I was a little more restless than I thought." Luna threw the covers aside and slipped into her surprisingly comfortable shoes and levitated a night black crown featuring her cutie mark in the center onto her head. Sighing she walked over to the balcony and began the task of lowering the moon so her sister could have room for her sun.
Today was going to be long, Luna could already tell. Just the day before, Cadence had brought Sombra to the castle and the confrontation was.... interesting.... to say the least. Never the less, Luna couldn't seem to get him off her mind no matter how much she wanted to; and she really wanted to. Luna heard a knock on her door, "come in," she said in a rather uninterested tone.
"Hey Auntie Luna, are you still upset about Sombra?" Cadence said walking up to the navy blue mare.
"Surprised but no, I'm not mad anymore, my outburst was completely uncalled for. I owe you an apology."
"That's alright, I owe you an apology to, I kind of pulled a fast one there."
"I do it to, no worries."
Cadence sighed, "He does love you. You know that right Auntie Luna?"
Luna raised an eyebrow," What makes you think that?"
"Even if he is still evil that spell wouldn't have been able to work if he didn't."
"I see," Luna felt a small ache in her heart, a longing for the Sombra she once knew.
"Celestia is going to try and finish what my spell started. Did she tell you about that?"
"No, this is the first I'm hearing of such ideas. It's pointless to try, he will forever be under the control of the darkness. Attempting to rid him of it is pointless." Luna couldn't help but feel her heart grow heavy at the thought as she willed herself not to let the sadness show.
"You don't mean that Luna, I know you don't"
"I do-"
"No you don't," Cadence said cutting her off. "I can here it in your voice, besides, Everyone thought nightmare moon was here to stay and yet here you are."
"Is it really that obvious?"
"Aunt Luna, did you really see him at the lake each night?"
Luna smiled at the thought of better days," I did. Other than Snow Drop he was the only one that I knew could truly understand the beauty of the night."
"So you were friends?"
"Yes, we were."
"Do you love him?"
Luna was taken aback by the question, "excuse me?"
"Do you love him?"
Luna thought for a moment before answering, "I don't know," she finally said after a while.
"Think about it, see you at breakfast Auntie Luna."
"See you at breakfast Cadence," Luna said turning back to the balcony so she could watch the sun rise.
*************
Luna, Celestia, Cadence, and Sombra were all seated in the dining hall as their breakfast was brought in. Celestia cleared her throat, "Sombra, although Cadence's spell has worked wonders in supressing the dark magic, I am hoping to fully reform you. I just want you to be able to tell me you can at least attempt it."
"When do we begin?" Sombra said with a smug grin on his face.
Luna rolled her eyes.
"Well aren't you a little grumpy today Luna, hmm must be that time of the month."
"Shut up," Luna said frustrated at the gray unicorn.
"Luna!" Celestia looked shocked, she had never heard Luna be so bluntly rude to anypony.
"What! he started it."
"Yes he did didn't he. That was still completely uncalled for."
Luna snorted and took a bite of her breakfast. After a few tense moments of silence Luna stood up, "May I be excused?"
"No Luna, you will stay here," Celestia said.
Luna reluctantly sat back down and ate her breakfast in silence. Celestia continued to discuss the day's agenda with Sombra. It wasn't anything fancy, just going on a stroll through Canterlot to see how well he could treat other ponies, so far he wasn't off to a good start with his crude comment towards Luna. It no doubt just put her in a mood.
********************************
Luna couldn't stand it. Sombra had already attempted petty theft six times in the past hour. Correction, seven. "Sombra! return that to the shop owner immediatly!"
"Fine," Sombra responded reluctantly handing the jewel back to the owner.
Luna sighed 'and I thought only Discord acted in such ways, I could almost say he was an angel compared to Sombra' . "Tia can we get going, I think I've seen quite enough."
"No Luna, there is still one more stop," Celestia answered.
"Where could we possibly need to go?"
"The lake. We are going to the lake," Celestia stated matter of factly.
The walk to the park was uneventful other than Sombra's muttering.
Luna sighed and walked over to Cadence, "why do you help him even after everything he did against you?"
"Because the darkness hasn't entirely taken him over. It's just like you when Nightmare Moon had control. Though it seemed that you were completely gone, you were still able to be completely released of her."
"It's not like I was born evil."
"Exactly, Sombra wasn't born evil either as far as I know. How did he become evil?"
Luna sighed, "One night he showed up at the lake as planned and said he wouldn't be seeing me anymore. I tried to find out why but he simply avoided the questions and ran off. It tore me apart inside to know that he wouldn't, I think that's when Nightmare Moon started to take shape. After i found out why he wouldn't see me anymore I snapped. To see one of my only friends become evil broke my heart. Snow Drop was only able to do so much to keep me under control before I fell apart completely. That's when Nighmare Moon took over and you know the rest.
Luna noticed that they had arrived at the lake, and Sombra, upon noticing where he was, became really angry, "Why have you brought me here!" He shouted.
"To show you the last place you were before you were evil Sombra," Celestia said. "Take a good look, you obviously need it."
"No!" Sombra turned to Luna, "You! You put her up to this! What did you hope to accomplish in doing this !"
"I did no such thing!" Luna shouted back suddenly feeling rather pissed at the former king of the crystal empire.
"You enjoy seeing me suffer from the memories of this place don't you!"
"That is ENOUGH ," Celestia shouted. Everything went silent, even the sound of birds could no longer be heard. "I have seen quite enough from you Sombra. We will be returning to the castle now." With that Celestia, Luna, Cadence, and Sombra returned to the castle. "Sombra, it will take patience but I will try to fully reform you," Celestia announced.
With that, Sombra returned to his quarters and the rest of the day was carried out normally, Luna seemed to be the only one with doubts about this but she knew that her sister's mind was set on this. Surprisingly Luna even found herself savoring the idea of Sombra no longer being evil.
It had been three months since Celestia proposed to try and fully reform King Sombra and he still hadn't gotten any better about it, If anything it had gotten worse. just yesterday he snapped and almost destroyed somepony for making a crude comment towards him. Luna sighed, if he didn't start behaving soon then her and Celestia were going to be forced to send him back to his cage, only this time it would be in Tarterus and not in the dungeon in the Crystal Empire with the power of the Crystal Heart to keep him under control. Over the course of these past few months Luna had found that she would feel more upset about that than she cared to admit.
"I will not calm down!" came a voice in the hallway, Luna left her room to see what the shouting was about and saw Sombra screaming at Celestia.
"You will calm down Sombra, hitting Cadence is not something you can do!" Celestia was standing over a pink alicorn mare that was cradling her face as if it had just taken a big blow.
"What in Equestria is going on here!" Luna shouted as she walked up. "Sombra, what is the meaning of this?" Luna said sternly, motioning to the mare on the ground.
"She was driving me mad, that's what happened," he spat, obviously annoyed by everything.
"That gave you no right to do that ," Celestia shouted, pointing a hoof at Cadence who was still on the floor.
"Sombra, I think you should head to your quarters before you do anymore damage," Luna calmly stated as she motioned for her guards to escort him to his room.
Celestia was helping Cadence to her hooves as Luna watched Sombra being led down the hallway. He turned his head back to Celestia with pure hatred in his eyes before spinning the rest of the way around and blasting a spell toward her. "NO!" Luna shouted jumping in the way of the blast, taking the full force of the spell. She heard Celestia scream her name and the guards pin Sombra to the ground, before falling unconscious.
Luna slowly opened her eyes and squinted as the light penetrated her vision. She slowly sat up, feeling her torso ache a lot. She moaned in pain before noticing Celestia and Cadence at her beside with a doctor beside them. "Ah, princess Luna, your awake. Your going to be sore for a few days, so i suggest taking it easy. Other than that there aren't any serious injuries, so you'll live," the doctor stated calmly.
"Thank you doctor," Celestia said.
"Your quite welcome. Just do as I say and take it easy, you'll be back to normal in a few days. Now, if you'll excuse me, I would like to get back to the hospital."
"Of course doctor, thank you for helping me, you may leave now," Luna said.
The doctor nodded and walked out of the room. Once the door had shut and the sound of hoofsteps faded away, Celestia spoke. "I'm afraid I put to much faith in Sombra's ability to be fully reformed. It's not going to work, we must send him to Tarterus."
Luna was silent, she really hoped it wouldn't come to this and simply nodded before slipping out of bed and following her sister into the dungeon, and to the cell containing Sombra. He was sitting in the corner making no attempt to do anything. He looked completely uninterested in the goings on around him. Sombra must be lost in his thoughts, Luna concluded. Celestia cleared her throat to catch his attention. Nothing. "Sombra," she stated.
He looked up from his daze and saw the sun goddess standing before him, outside the bars. His gaze quickly averted to Luna and he lifted his head, his eyes seeming to brighten up, "Your okay!" he stated excitedly.
"Yes, I'm fine. I'm afraid that my sister has decided that it is time to send you back to prison, for the reformation hadn't worked after all," Luna hoped she sounded calmer than she felt. Old feelings that she'd had for him so long ago had resurfaced and she hoped the sadness hadn't been to noticeable in her voice.
Sombra made no attempt to look upset or surprised about this and simply stood. "I see, well then, we better get going."
Celestia nodded and opened the cage door so Sombra could step out.
Luna silently scolded herself for feeling so sad about this whole ordeal when she knew it was inevitable. Yet she still couldn't help but feel so sad about having to send Sombra back to prison. It must be done she thought. Yet, why does it hurt so much? Luna silently mulled over this as she, Celestia, and Cadence led Sombra down the hallway into the courtyard.
Once they reached the courtyard Luna could no longer bare the feelings. She flung herself at Sombra as he took his position for the spell. "Sombra no! You can't do this! There is still hope!" She shouted, Luna felt like a small filly pleading for her mom, but she didn't care. She continued to shout for a while longer before Sombra silenced her.
"Shut up! Just stand back and do the spell already!" Sombra shouted.
Luna was taken aback by his outburst, which he quickly regretted once she went from shocked to angry. Stepping back next to her sister she began the spell. "Then goodbye King Sombra, I hate that I ever knew you," she stated with anger.
Sombra thought over those words for a second before seeing the spell engulf him and........ Luna crying! He had never seen her cry, and once again felt a flood of emotions overcome him, just as he had every time a vision of her tortured him in his cell. "Luna wait...... I can change," Sombra said, practically whispering the last three words. "I can change," he said again.
Luna released her hold on the spell and Celestia soon followed in suit. Cadence couldn't help but smile at this. Once the magic dissipated around Sombra, he ran over to Luna and pulled her into his embrace. "I love you Luna, will you please give me another chance?"
Luna pulled away and looked at Sombra smiling, "I can try," she said as Sombra pulled her back into his strong embrace.
This just made Cadence smile even brighter as Celestia had a look of surprise cross her face that was soon replaced with a small smile.
Author's Note
Alright guys, again, thank Animated Rarity for the idea around the chapters reformation parts 1 and 2. If he (or she) had not suggested it this would not happen at all I don't think.
Sombra had just woken up and was headed to the bathroom to wash up before heading to breakfast. He was happy that Celestia was giving him a second chance to redeem himself---- though he must admit she was very reluctant about it. Luckily Cadence had a silver tongue when it came to things like this. Luna's persuasion skills went about as far as his when it came to things like this. Oh well , he thought. I can't bother about how much Celestia was against this because even though Luna hugged me she is still not entirely convinced yet.
Sombra walked out of the bathroom and saw Cadence sitting in the middle of his room smiling at him. "Hello Sombra," she said cheerfully.
"Cadence," he said with a respectful dip of his head.
Cadence returned the gesture and said she was here to talk. "Now that Luna and I convinced Celestia to give you another chance, we are responsible for anything you do wrong. You are going to have to find a way to get that temper under control."
"What temper?" Sombra protested.
Cadence laughed and turned her to reveal the bruise on her cheek. Sombra's shoulders drooped and he looked away. "Don't worry about me Sombra, I'm over it."
"And Luna?" He asked in a worried tone. "What about her?"
"She insists that she's fine but Celestia told the quards to make sure she stayed in bed today. Luna's still a little sore, and was really pissed when she found out about what Celestia did to ensure she didn't push herself to much to. So expect Luna to be in a bad mood, but it's not because of you. Celestia obviously isn't taking any chances and is making sure Luna makes a full recovery fast." Cadence chuckled as she thought about overhearing Luna in her room once she realized what was happening.
Sombra still looked like he felt bad about it though. "You think they'd let me see her?"
"Well I was gonna go eat breakfast with Aunt Luna in her room so I don't think the guards would mind to much as long as i'm there. Come on," Cadence said leading the way out of Sombra's room and heading for the kitchens. Sombra followed closely behind as they made their way over to the royal kitchen's where breakfast was just being finished up.
"Hello Princess Cadence," said the head chef. "Have you come for Luna's breakfast?"
"Yes, could you also put mine and Sombra's breakfast on the tray to?" Cadence asked.
The chef's gaze shifted over to Sombra. He put on a nervous smile, "of course princess." The chef hurried away and returned with a tray that contained some eggs, apple pancakes with syrup, and three tall glasses of milk in his magical grasp. Cadence's horn lit up as she levitated the tray behind her and thanked the chef as she walked out of the kitchen.
The two arrived in front of Luna's bedroom door and the guards looked a little uneasy upon the sight of Sombra. "Don't worry, he's with me," Cadence said, It seemed to satisfy the guards and they stepped aside and opened the doors to allow them entry.
"Hey Aunt Luna, I brought breakfast," Cadence said levitating the food and milk over to Luna's nightstand. "Mind if we eat with you?" She said cheerfully sitting next to Luna's bedside.
"Not much I can do to stop you," Luna said chuckling as she grabbed the plate and fork and shoved a large bight of eggs into her mouth.
Cadence laughed, "oh the thing Celestia would say about that."
Luna joined in, "let her see me eating so childishly for all I care. She's really being a little to dramatic about this. I'm sore not dying," Luna said shoving another bite of the eggs into her mouth. "Hello Sombra," she added seeming to brighten up a little bit upon noticing he was there.
"Hello to you as well Luna." Sombra looked away, "I'm sorry about.... well yeah."
Luna waved her hoof dismissing the words, "don't worry to much about it. I've been in worse condition. I'll be fine by tomorrow, Especially since Tia isn't letting me leave this bed till tomorrow," Luna sighed. "She's really over reacting. The doctor even said I would be fine so this is just annoying."
When Luna said this Celestia walked in, "how are you doing little sister," she asked.
Luna let the fork fall from her magical grasp as she levitated a pillow and launched it a Celestia's face. The pillow made contact with Celestia's face and fell harmlessly to the ground. The white alicorn showed a small look of surprise on her face as she registered what had just happened. "I see your doing just fine," Celestia said as she levitated the pillow back onto the bed.
Luna grabbed the milk and to a long drink of it before continuing to shove bites of pancakes and eggs into her mouth while glaring at her sister. Celestia rolled her eyes and, with a chuckle, made her way out of the room.
Sombra smiled and began laughing as he realized that even after so long Luna's temper had not changed in the slightest. He once again felt very grateful for the second chance he was being granted and realized he was staring at Luna. He turned his face away sheepishly and felt heat rush to his cheeks. Cadence and Luna must have noticed this because sure enough the were laughing and giggling at his face that was turning into a bright shade of red and he wore a sheepish grin on his face. Soon he was laughing as well and the three of them just spent the rest of the day together in Luna's room laughing and talking. Yes today was a good day to be free.

Luna had just gotten back into the swing of her royal duties. Things were running smoothly, Luna had just finished lowering the moon, and was headed to breakfast. Half way there she was met by the smiling face of Sombra, who was waiting for her outside the door to his room. "Good morning Sombra," Luna said with a small smile creeping onto her face.
"And good morning to you, Luna. Shall we?" Sombra replied holding his hoof in the direction of the dining hall.
Luna giggled and they walked down side by side.
"I wonder what the chefs have for us today," Sombra said.
"We'll just have to find out," Luna replied as she stopped in front of the large double doors to the dining hall while the night guard opened them for her and Sombra. Luna dismissed the guards and told them to get the day guard to take their shift before walking into the large room. The guards nodded and walked away after closing the doors. Celestia and Cadence were seated at the table awaiting the arrival of the two newcomers.
"There you are Lulu, I was beginning to worry."
Luna rolled her eyes at the tall, white alicorn. "You worry far to much Tia, i'm fine." Luna and Sombra took their places at the table and the server mares came in with the trays of food floating behind them. The server mares walked out as quietly as they came in, leaving the four to their breakfast. "So, what are we doing today Tia?" Luna asked as she took a bite of the Al a' mode that was in front of her.
"Well Lulu, we have a meeting today with the mayors of all the cities to discuss how thing are going and what needs our attention, and then we have a few court sittings........" Celestia went on about the day's agenda and Cadence turned to talk with Sombra while the two sisters talked.
"So, whats going on Sombra?"
"Nothing much, oh can I speak with you in private after breakfast?"
"Sure, we can talk in my room and I will just have the guards go across the hall while we chat."
"Thanks," Sombra said. The rest of breakfast was uneventful.
Luna and Celestia left the second they were finished eating so they could begin their long day. Cadence and Sombra finished a short while later and began walking down the hall to Cadence's room. As Cadence closed the door to her room she turned to face the grey unicorn. "So what did you want to talk with me about?"
"I want your help in surprising Luna with a little picnic tonight at the lake. She's always worked to the bone by the end of the day, so I never really get to spend any time with her."
"That's so sweet, of course I'll help you Sombra," Cadence said. "Come on. Let's see if we can get the chefs to make something," Cadence said leading the way to the kitchens.
"Of course, I will get right on that Princess Cadence," the head chef said walking over to a cutting board and levitating a carrot over to it. "I will have it finished in an hour, come back then to get it," the chef said as he began cutting the vegetable and levitating more over to rest next to the board until he needed them.
"Thank you," Cadence said as she and Sombra turned to leave. "Alright Sombra, lets go set the area up. First things first, we need a picnic blanket. I bet we could find some in my room, you could pick from those."
"Alright," Sombra said as they headed back to Cadence's room.
Sombra chose a navy blue one with constellations all over it and the two walked down to the park to set up. Sombra also got a dark blue rose that faded into a blue-violet at the tip of the pedals and headed to the lake. He and Cadence had the entire area set up within the hour and went back for the food the chef had prepared.
"It looks great, thanks," Sombra said checking the contents of the basket before leaving to put it with the picnic blanket.
"Oh Tia, I am so glad the day is finally over," Luna said slouching in her throne with her head hung down tiredly.
Celestia smiled in agreement with a sigh, "quit slouching Lulu, you know how it bothers me."
"Sorry, I'm just tired is all. I better go raise the moon," Luna said getting up and going over to the window. Her horn glowed with a blue aura as she began the tedious task of raising the moon. "So how is your student Twilight doing."
"She has learned a lot in her stay in ponyville, and her friends are wonderful."
"I would like to get to know her friends better. They really helped me on Nightmare Night."
Luna put the stars in place and continued to raise the moon higher until she was satisfied with her night sky and turned from the window to see that Sombra and Cadence had entered the room. "Hello Cadence, Sombra," Luna said with a smile as she walked over to the two ponies.
"Hello Luna," Sombra responded. "I was wondering if you would like to join me in a little trip to the lake."
"That sounds great, you don't mind right Tia?"
Celestia giggled, "you go on ahead, it looks like you need it."
"Why are you making me close my eyes Sombra?" Luna asked.
"Just a few more steps, we're almost there," Sombra replied as the picnic area came into sight. "Alright, open them."
Luna opened her eyes to see the picnic blanket with the basket and a candle in the center. "Oh, Sombra. Did you plan this?"
"For us, oh and this is for you," Sombra said levitating the blue rose from the small satchel at his side.
"It's beautiful," Luna said as her magic took hold of the flower. She levitated it to her muzzle and sniffed it before setting down and taking a seat next to Sombra on the blanket. Sombra levitated two plates and a container of food out of the basket and began dishing out the food.
After they finished dessert, Sombra and Luna laid down with their forelegs dipped in the water as they gazed at the stars. "You did a great job with the sky Luna," Sombra said.
"It's nothing special," Luna said.
"Of course it's special, and besides, how many stallions get to say the love of their life is the princess of the night?"
Luna smiled at Sombra as he looked at her, a smile also splayed across his face. Sombra leaned in closer and closed his eyes. Luna closed her eyes and they're lips met in a passionate kiss. Luna's heart skipped a beat as she felt Sombra wrap her into a hug. Luna wrapped her hooves around him and they're kiss continued for what felt like an eternity before the two pulled away. Luna leaned into Sombra and he hugged her harder and they stayed like that for a while before the two drifted to sleep, laying side by side at the edge of the lake.

Thanks for reading again feedback is appreciated, I like knowing what you guys think.
It had been a few months since their picnic and already Luna had grown much closer to Sombra. It seemed like every time he was around he was more and more like the Sombra she knew over a thousand years ago. Sombra was finally aloud to walk around the castle without an escort of guards or one of the princesses, having finally won the trust of Celestia and the royal guards. While he was aloud to walk around alone now, she still found him waiting for her outside his bedroom door. "Why hello Sombra," she said, once again seeing him waiting for her outside his bedroom door so they could walk to breakfast.
"Hello....... Lulu," Sombra said with a playful grin plastered across his face.
"You know only Tia is aloud to call me that," Luna said playfully punching him in the shoulder, a smile on her face as well.
The two lovers made their way to the dining hall. When they took their seats, Cadence and Celestia were seated with an agenda list in front of them. Celestia looked up from the to-do list and smiled when she saw Luna and Sombra walk in. "Hello Lulu, how are you today Sombra?"
"I'm wonderful, thank you," Sombra said.
"Hey Tia, what annoying nobles do we have to deal with today?" Luna said with a smile.
"Lulu, how many times do I have to tell you. As annoying as the nobles are, we only voice it when no one is around," Celestia chastised.
"But the only ones around are Cadence and Sombra," Luna said with a playful smile.
The Sun Princess thought for a moment, as if considering Luna's words. "True. Well if you must know which annoying noble it is today, it's that Fluer De Lis, I swear, she is the most obnoxious pony in the world, not to mention her name."
"Her! What does she want this time, trying to buy the park again?" Luna said.
"Yes," Celestia sighed, "I made it very clear that i wanted the park to stay the way it was, not everything has to be modern. Besides, everypony else seems to enjoy the rustic, ancient feel of it."
"Damn straight!" Luna said slamming her hoof on the table.
Celestia chuckled, "honestly Luna, your supposed to look professional."
"How can I look professional about this, she comes to us about this matter every single day. You'd think that a year straight of 'no' would finally get it through her thick skull," Luna countered.
"Your right Lulu, I know. We'll just have to make it extra clear today that if she comes to us about the matter again, we will never accept another audience with her again, on this matter or otherwise." Celestia gave a slight nod as if assuring this to herself as the servers came in, a nervous look on they're faces from obviously hearing Luna yelling.
"Thank you, and I apologize if my yelling frightened you," Luna said obviously noticing the nervous look on the servers' faces.
The mare bowed and smiled, "your welcome, Princess, it was just kind of sudden." The mare knew Luna was a bit more short tempered than Celestia, but she meant well. "Enjoy breakfast your majesty," the mare said turning to leave.
Luna nodded.
Breakfast came and went as Luna and Celestia departed for the throne room.
"I'm sorry, but we have told you no about the park time and time again," Luna said, her patience running dangerously thin.
"Please, reconsider. The park looks absolutely monstrous with it's.... ancientness." Fluer De Lis said. She saw the look on Luna's face and instantly regretted her choice of words.
Luna was seething with anger as she stood and slowly walked towards the annoying noble. Celestia walked up next to her sister to make sure she didn't completely snap. "Is thou saying that she doth not like the park my sister so graciously left untouched?" The deep blue alicorn said with an angry voice. If looks could kill, This noble would have died five times already.
The pale pink mare shrank away, taking a step back to put some distance between her and the angry princess. "I.... I...."
"Luna, let me handle this," Celestia said. Leaning in just loud enough for Luna to hear she whispered, "before you do something you will regret."
Luna took a deep breath and stepped back, still giving the noble her signature death stare. Celestia sighed, "Miss Fluer, my sister is correct. I left the park the way it was for Luna. Tell me, if you were gone for such a long time and came back, finding everything different. Would you want at least one familiar thing left?"
"Well I...."
"You will not have the park, and it will stay the same. If you come to me about this matter again I will not accept another audience with you for any reason, whatever it may be, again. You are dismissed."
The unicorn wasted no time in turning tail and trying not to bolt to the door as she made her exit. When the unicorn was out of sight Luna slouched over and sighed. "Is it okay for me to say that if that damn pony ever comes back that i refuse to join you in an audience with her?"
"Luna, even if you wanted to join me, i would send you elsewhere to do something until she leaves," Celestia said chuckling.
"Thank you," Luna replied standing straight once more.
Luna walked out of the throne room, having finished her royal duties for the day. Sombra was waiting for her outside the throne room. "Hello Luna," Sombra said pulling the princess close.
"Sombra," Luna replied with a smile as the unicorn gazed at her.
The grey unicorn closed the distance between him and his mare friend, pulling her into a deep passionate kiss. Something he had begun to do quite often.
It didn't take long for Luna to return it with equal passion as her sister walked out of throne room. well, that quite the thing to walk in on, Celestia thought as she walked past them, trying not to stare. "I dare say it won't be long before a proposal," Celestia said meeting Cadence at the end of the hall.
"I don't doubt that, Aunt Celestia," Cadence said with a smile.
Celestia laughed," I never thought I would see the day Sombra would be reformed."
Sombra pulled away after a few minute, much to the two lovers' dismay. "What do you say, we go out for dinner?" He asked.
"I would love to join you," Luna said. After passing it by Celestia, Luna and Sombra, followed by two guards, left to a diner thar Sombra had apparently reserved before hand.
"Table for two, reserved under the name Sombra Shadesparrow." Sombra said to the stallion with the reservation list.
"Ah, yes. Mr. Shadesparrow and....." The stallion's eyes grew wide when he saw Princess Luna. " Princess Luna! Please come in, your table will be ready in a moment." The stallion said bowing and sending them with a mare to escort them to their table.
"Your table, highness," the mare said bowing her head.
"Please, none of that," Luna said. "Treat me as you would any other customer, I don't want special treatment. If that's alright with you."
"Of course," the mare said standing up once more. "Would you like something to drink you two?" she asked with a smile on her face as she handed them the menus.
"Some sparkling water for me," Luna answered.
"I'll have what she's having," Sombra said with a smile.
"Of course, coming right up," the server mare said with a smile. She turned to leave and get the requested drinks.
Luna and Sombra talked for a bit until a white stallion walked up. "Hello, I'm Fancy Pants," the unicorn said.
"Hello Fancy Pants, pleased to make your acquaintance," Luna said.
"The pleasure is all mine, and might I add that you did a fine job on the sky tonight, it looks exceptionally beautiful tonight, and now I can see why."
"Thank you," Luna said with a smile. "What brings you here?"
"Oh right, I am aware that my wife, Fluer De Lis, was causing you some trouble today, and wanted to apologize if she offended or angered you in any way."
"Thank you, it's not your fault though, it's hers," Luna said calmly.
"Well, I will talk with her, so she can formally apologize to you, now if you'll excuse me, I will leave you to enjoy your dinner."
"Thank you, it was a pleasure to meet you," Luna said as Fancy Pants turned to leave.
Luna turned to Sombra as they're drinks and meals arrived. They thanked the servers and enjoyed their dinner. After paying for the meal and tipping their servers, the two left the restaurant and headed back to the castle. "Shadesparrow huh?"
Sombra laughed, "yes, my last name is Shadesparrow," he answered before pulling Luna into a kiss.
Luna pulled away and motioned to her room so they could have some privacy. The two lovers entered the room and shut the door. Luna cast a quick spell before turning back to Sombra. "What was that spell?" He asked, a mischievous glint in his eye.
"Soundproofing," Luna answered casually with a seductive glint in her eye.
"You dirty mare," Sombra said with a smirk.
"So you don't want it?" Luna said with a frown.
"Now I never said that," Sombra answered pulling Luna close and kissing her passionately as they landed on the bed.
Luna snapped awake with Sombra hugging her close. She kissed her lover and wriggled out of bed, heading over to the balcony to lower the moon. Sombra followed her over to the balcony and turned her head up to look at him, "before you do that, can I ask you something?"
"What is it?" Luna asked with a smile on her face.
That smile, Sombra thought, is the most beautiful thing in the world. Sombra opened the small box he had grabbed of the nightstand and opened it. "Luna, will you marry me?"
Luna looked into the box and saw a silver necklace with a crystal moon on it, "oh Sombra," Luna threw her forelegs around the unicorn as he levitated the necklace around her neck and returned the embrace.
"You were right, Cadence," Celestia said as she looked at the balcony across from her where the couple was in an embrace. "He did propose just now."
"I knew he would," Cadence said smiling.
Author's Note
There you go guys, Luna and Sombra had they're steamy moment, tell me about what you think on how I ended the chapter and keep your eyes open for the final chapter, I'm telling you now that there is definitely going to be a sequel following Celestia with her whirlwind romance to.
This was it, the big day. Sombra was struck hard with nervousness. His throat felt dry as the maid was tightening his bow and putting his red cape on. This, of course, didn't stop him from noticing the nervous glances at his horn. It was still curved and red with a sharp point. It was the only thing left from his evil past, and he wondered why it hadn't gone back to normal yet. He had proven himself after all. Sombra pondered this for a moment, enjoying the distraction from his nervousness when Cadence walked in. "Hello Sombra, how are you doing?" Cadence asked as she straitened the bow and cape.
"Nervous," he admitted hanging his head and letting out a long sigh. "What if Luna decides at the last moment that she doesn't want to marry me? What if she looks at my horn and remembers the horrible things I did? What if-"
Cadence cut him off, "what if your body becomes a toaster pastry and you start to fart rainbows and fly?" Honestly Sombra, quit worrying. I'm going to go check on Luna."
"May I come to?"
"No, it's bad luck to see your bride before the wedding. You will have to wait." Sombra sighed as he watched Cadence leave.
Luna was getting her dress fitted when Cadence walked in. "Hello Cadence," she said with a beaming smile as the maids smoothed her gown down. It was the same color as her crystal shoes and sparkled like the stars. It had a silver trim, despite Celestia's attempts to make the trim gold. Luna laughed as she remembered Celestia's explanation. 'But lulu, don't royals wear gold on their wedding dresses? It's tradition.' After this, as if on Que, Celestia walked in.
"Hello Lulu," she glanced at the dress's trim for what seemed like the thousandth time. "I would have felt a lot better if you used gold trim and followed tradition."
"You know I never looked good in gold, Tia," Luna said. "The last place i need it is my own wedding dress," Luna said as one of the maids straitened the short train. Another levitated some silver shoes over to Luna. They didn't want her wearing her everyday garments and had some silver ones made that matched the dress. The silver garments had stars for the detail that were the same color as her usual crystal shoes.
"I have to agree with Auntie Luna, Aunt Celestia. She is the princess of the night after all. Gold is more of a day thing, i think silver was a great call."
"I suppose your right. Come along Cadence, we should leave Luna to finish getting ready. I think Shining armor might need our help with the last of the preparations." Celestia said as she walked out of Luna's room closely followed by Cadence.
Luna had just finished raising the moon and stars and was currently waiting behind the double doors for the wedding to start. Celestia was in a simple yet elegant pink gown. She was Luna's maid of honor. Sombra had asked Discord to be his best...... draconaques? Luna didn't exactly know what to think about that but she never really minded Discord. Even before he was reformed he was really just a glorified trouble maker in her mind. It didn't excuse his actions but he never really did anything particularly evil . Oh well. now no one had to worry about him even causing trouble....... much.
Luna heard the music begin to play, which signified the start of the wedding. Luna let her thoughts on discord fall away as she followed Celestia down the isle. The music stopped playing when Luna reached the pedestal and faced Sombra.
"We gather here today........ " the priest continued to say the vows.
"Do you, Sombra Shadesparrow, take Princess Luna of the Night Sky, as your Lawfully wedded wife."
"I do," Sombra replied.
"And do you, Princess Luna, take Sombra Shadesparrow as you lawfully wedded husband."
Luna looked Sombra deep in the eye for a moment before answering, "I do."
"Then you may now kiss the bride."
Sombra levitated the veil out of Luna's face and leaned forward. Luna closed the distance and their lips met in the kiss that would forever bind them to each other, and everything was perfect.
A flashing light bound Sombra's horn and everyone gasped as the light faded. Sombra and Luna broke the kiss and glanced at Sombra's horn as the last of the light dissipated into oblivion to leave a normal grey horn in it's wake. The horn was straight now and the red that was once present was gone. Sombra and Luna smiled as Sombra voiced what they both thought. "I am finally, truly, free." The couple began kissing again in each others' embrace.
The after party was lively and fun. Everyone was watching Luna and Sombra dance around. It was tradition to let husband and his bride have the first dance. Celestia and Discord watched happily as the two enjoyed their dance. "I do believe this is the beginning of a lovely family," Discord said pretending to wipe a tear from his eye.
Celestia laughed, she was enjoying Discord's company, "Perhaps. If that does happen i can assure you, they will have their hands full."
Discord turned his head in Celestia's direction. "I love children, their so much fun."
Celestia returned Discord's gaze with surprise, "I never knew that." Discord continued to look into Celestia's eyes.
"I do, I love watching them play around without a care in the world." Celestia felt her heart flutter, she wondered why until realization struck. Oh sweet, sunlit Equestria. I'm in LOVE with Discord!

Surprise Alternate Ending!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sombra leaned in for the kiss that would forever bind him and Luna in eternal happiness when everything became shrouded in a black haze.
Sombra jerked his head up, his body stiff and cold on the stone floor and his hooves and body still bound in their many chains. It wasn't real. Everything that had happened between him and Luna was all just another vision. Sombra felt realization's merciless strike as tears rolled continuously down his face. It was shortly followed by his whole body being racked with sobs as his psyche took it's final blow and fell apart completely. Sombra was broken, continuously sobbing on the cold, lifeless, stone floor. Nothing would change, and he knew this, so why did it hurt so much? Why did a love, lost to him a thousand years ago, still continue to plague him with such force?
The sobs violently racked his body, he didn't care anymore. he normally refused to have such a breakdown in front of the guards, but he honestly didn't care. the guards watched in a confused stupor as the once powerful tyrant fell apart. Sombra continued on, his mind having taken the final blow, why did love hurt so much? Why did it plague him so? Sombra was finally able to answer, quietly he mutter between sobs, "it hurts, it hurts because my love for you is true Luna. I love you, and it hurts." Sombra continued his sobbing as what was left in tact from his broken mind crumbled away. The only thing left of the former king was a broken mind, within a broken body.
Love hurts , Sombra thought as the sobs continued, and Luna's face flashed before his eyes.
