Chapters Ponyville basked in the soft sunlight, snow caressed each of its features.
It was Winter.
Snow flakes piled on top each other gently and formed blankets of pure white.
Every woodland critter was tucked in the safety of their shelters, already in hibernation.
Cloudsdale weather factories were baren, for there was snow scheduled for quite a period of time. Every so often some Pegasi shifted some clouds to allow a brief touch of sunshine, but that was it.
The residents of Ponyville were enjoying the season.
Some ponies inside their homes, placed in front of their fire place or enjoying activities with their loved ones.
Ponies outside however, were frolicking in the frozen blankets with glee.
Most ponies, especially fillies, were covered in winter gear from head to hoof.
Applebloom just happened to be one of those fillies

Applebloom let out a series of unpleasant noises to express her discomfort.
She bit her sweater and tugged at it to take off the unpleasant thing.
"Now now sugar cube," Applejack scolded her sister "Believe me Ah know how ya feel, but we can't risk ya gettin sick."
The filly gave her sister a long exasperated sigh.
"What in the hay do ya mean ya know how ah feel??
Yer just wearin a scarf!
Ah lost count of how many scarves ah'm wearin!"
Apple bloom was still in a fearsome battle with the sweater.
Applejack was starting to get frustrated, she had somewhere important to be!
She took her sisters small hoof and led her outside.
"Ab... Quit yer fussin, or y'all are gonna be late for yer crusadin thing!"
Applejack furrowed her brow.
Applebloom pouted as she saw her sisters expression.
Her sweater had won the battle.
Applejack dashed out the door, zooming past her sister.
"What was all that bout?"
Applebloom watched as her sister become a orange speck in the distance.
The filly sighed, she couldn't go crusading today.
Scootaloo was out camping with Rainbowdash,
and Sweetiebelle was with her parents.
She decided to just explore ponyville.

Applebloom trotted briskly over to the shops.
She wanted to buy something for some pony special.
There were stallions and mares hustling and bustling within the buildings.
Ab took in a deep breath and entered the hectic storm of wild ponies.
As soon as she opened the shop store she was immediately sucked in, unable to say her last words.
This surely was not a place for a filly.
The most action was in the toy section, a wild swarm of parents in a battle to the death for a doll.
Two mothers were about to pounce each other for a miniature tea set.
Their actions mimicked those of enraged cats.
Luckily for applebloom, she didn't need to go there.
Ab looked over at the rather expensive jewelry.
She hesitantly placed one foot in front of the other,
careful not to be ambushed by terrifying young couples.
Ab cautiously turned her head and looked for signs of danger.
She made it past the rapid grandparents,
She went through the aggressive land dubbed 'sports section' filled with the primitive fathers,
She blindly passed the scampering mares in the lingerie aisle,
She ran through the hostile shoplifters that dared risk their lives in this jungle for a free item.
The weary journey was almost near its end.
Applebloom approached her destination.
She looked at all the treasure;
she imagined giving her special somepony one of these lavish broaches,
Devine necklaces, or a pair of one of these elegant earrings.
Ab took a glimpse at all the contents the glass case contained.
That's when she saw it.
Amongst several other broaches, there was one that stood out amongst the rest.
It resembled a shinning red delicious, it was in the shape of a heart.
She knew it was cliche at best, but the blue diamonds encrusted in its sides sparkled like the mares eyes.
The earth pony stretched out her hoof and grabbed the treasure,
holding it as if it was her own child.
Applebloom made her way over to the cashier pony.
She put the broach in her satchel as she made her purchase, she ended up paying a large ammount of her allowance.
It was worth it,
just to see her smile.
Ab smiled softly.
Her special some ponies smile lit up her world.
Her heart was a stage and this pony had the spotlight,
for she had stole the show.
Yes, she had to admit it was possibly the most difficult thing to comprehend her love for this mare.
Out of all ponies
She stole her heart,
In a way it wasn't surprising at all since this pony was the most beautiful mare in all of ponyville.
This temptress has captured the heart of thousands.
She and applebloom would make quite an odd pair though.
They were opposites, but applebloom had been visiting her.
She spent time at the mares house and helped her with work and chores.
As long as she saw her smile,
It was worth it.

Applebloom scampered back home to wrap the contents of which she had bought.
It was quite the walk back to sweet apple acres, almost as long as the walk
to fluttershys cottage.
Ab swung open the door and galloped inside, she trotted upstairs into her room.
She opened the satchel and took out all that she had bought.
The filly had bought the broach and a few tea bags. Applebloom made her way over to her closet and took out some more items she had been making and buying.
Along with wrapping paper; she had a bath bomb and a body scrub.
She had learned to make these things from a book she found in the library.
Twilight certainly was shocked to see somepony from the apple family acquire this.
The bath bomb was shaped into a heart, once again cliche at best but still, it was a gentle lavender scent with some petals inside it.
The body scub was as well lavender, but with the slightest hint of strawberry.
Making soap wasn't exactly appleblooms cup of tea, and certainly she didn't want it as a cutie mark, but it was enjoyable.
Apple bloom wrapped each item as gently as she could and placed it in a rather large basket.
She smiled for a brief moment, certainly this will cause her special some pony to explode with joy!
Not literally though.
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Applebloom cautiously lifted the basket,
holding the handle in her mouth,
and trotted off to the home of her lovely princess.
She was extremely careful not to slip or fall.
She finally made it to her destination.
The filly's heart was thudding, her stomach felt awful, she seemed to be sweating up a storm.
She felt her legs go weak, she was never this nervous to see her..... Maybe it was a sign.
Was it a good thing or a bad thing?
Apple blooms eyes were fixated upon the door.
She placed her hoof on the knob and turned it.
The door creaked as it slowly turned open.
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
As soon as she opened the door, a pungent odor ambushed her.
The filly gagged, a part of her assumed it was some awful new perfume.
Fancy ponies had weird taste.
The whole boutique was pitch black, the odor being the only presence.
It was eerily quiet, for some reason a part of applebloom was distressed.
"R-rarity?...."
Her voiced echoed the room and bounced off the walls.
As the filly trotted deeper into the house, the odor grew stronger and the air got thicker.
It was even worse when she got near the unicorns room, absolutely unbearable.
Applebloom vomited onto the floor, the stench of vomit was already existent before she added onto it.
Her mind could no longer could come up with any reasonable explanations as to what was happening.
Something is dead.
Appleblooms vision was almost futile.
She trying to calm her unstable mind to remember the layout of raritys home.
She had been there many times before.
Applebloom dared not say a word in fear that there was a killer in the home.
A few tears dropped down her cheeks
Is rarity dead?
Appleblooms legs got weak again, unable to understand what was going on.
She didn't understand how she opened the door.
She didn't understand how she vomited the rest of her stomachs contents.
She didn't understand how she walked inside.
She didn't understand how she found the light switch.
Applebloom expected a dim light to add onto the eerie feeling, but no.
Light showered the room as it always had.
Nopony was there,
or so she thought.
The room was its normal self.
Nothing out of the ordinary.
But that smell.
That god awful smell, it was thick as cream at this point.
Applebloom managed to spot a large object under the covers.
Ab trembled, her mind told her to run and get out.
She agreed, but her hooves did not.
She walked hastily over to the object.
The filly was shaking what would seem violently.
Fear overwhelmed her.
Applebloom clenched her eyes shut and flung the blanket off the object.
She should have never opened her eyes.
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
The object was rarity.
What was left of her at the least.
Her mouth looked as though it was carved open.
Her lips were torn off, forming a big smile.
Teeth were brutally ripped out, as was the tongue.
Raritys eyes were gouged out.
Her sockets were filled with, now dry, wax.
The mares false eyelashes were removed so the dainty original ones were visible.
The limbs were torn off and the horn appeared to be smashed off.
Raritys chest had been pried open, all organs and ribs were nowhere to be seen.
Instead of these things, her precious diamond replaced them to fill the hollow body.
Each diamond was now a shade of blue and red.
The unicorns face was stained with tears and blood.
On her chest, there was splotches of vomit matted into her coat.
Her mane was surprisingly neatly laid on the pillow.
Her mane seemed to be an outsider compared to the disastrously mangled body that was once rarity.
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Appblooms body rattled from the sobbing and screaming.
Her vision started to fail her and she soon went limp.
Applebloom woke up in the hospital, she was relieved of the smell of death.
It now smelled like medical supplies.
Next to her was applejack.
The mares face was close to hers, staring at the filly intently.
Aj's face was a bit pink and wet from tears.
She held the filly's hoof in hers.
It was difficult to tell as to whose hoof was shaking.
Applebloom smiled weakly at her sister.
She was unsure of how she was able to.
Ab's mine was in pieces.
She was experiencing the pure form of distress.
It was shocking, nopony ever murdered any pony else in eons.
Even at that, it was nothing like this.
Before she said a word, her sister had her in a rather tight embrace.
Both of them broke out sobbing for a while.
With each sob they embraced each other tighter.
After a while they finally stopped.
The room was filled with the silence once more.
"Rarity is dead"
Applebloom broke the silence.
Applejack nodded grimly.
"Ah'm aware."
They faced each other
"Th others aren't takin it too well. Ah can't tell ya what's goin on with em, cause they won't leave their house. Raritys neighbors heard ya hollerin and found ya passed out on th floor. Took nerves of steel tah get in there. Police rushed ya over here, ah was afraid y'all was a goner"
A few more tears streamed down Applejacks cheeks
"Ah couldn't live with mahself if ya did.... Th last thing ah said to ya was basically to get lost...."
Applejack placed a kiss on her little sisters hoof
She understood how fragile she was now.
Her poor baby sister.
Applebloom noticed applejack was the only one there.
"Where's th rest of th family and mah friends?"
Applebloom forgot about raritys relations
"Now sugar cube.... Sweetiebelle is raritys sister... Ah heard scoots is with her. Big Macs coverin mah shift at the apple cart and granny's at home."
Applejack smiled at her sister
"Applebloom..."
Applejack was struggling to keep her smile on
"Sweetiebelle is gonna have tah stay at our house for a while..."
Her smile faded
"Until she moves away..."
Applebloom had forgot that rarity was the only reason sweetie was here.
She sobbed quietly in her sisters embrace.
"When's the funeral?"
Applebloom whispered.
Quite some time later the funeral took place in canterlot.
Rarity loved it there.
She always wanted to live there.
Celestia worried about the health and safety of every pony in equestria.
The element of generosity was gone.
The elements could no longer unite.
Right now however, was a funeral.
No time to think of the horrid corruption the now unprotected equestria was about plunge head first into.
Rarity was put in a special tomb.
A tomb simply set aside for her.
It was decorated in diamonds in all shades of blue.
This made applebloom cringe.
Each diamond was a different shade of blue.
There was cyan, periwinkle, royal blue, duke blue, aqua, and thousands of other shades that nopony knew existed.
You could say the pony who gave them wanted to show their generosity.
The whole structure was composed of pure marble that was kept in the finest condition.
Lavender was grown all around it.
It was beautiful.
Stunning even.
Hopefully rarity was restored to her full beauty.
Applebloom had placed the broach on top of the coffin.
The coffin was made of a material that was unknown the applebloom.
It was beautiful nonetheless.
There was possibly a treasure on the inside.
It would never calm these broken souls though.
Applebloom turned her head the see the other ponies who had come.
She didn't hear the preacher or the princess say anything.
It wasn't that they didn't, she just didn't hear them.
Instead she heard raritys humming.
It calmed her.
She saw raritys father and mother.
She saw magnum, raritys father, was carrying rage and depression.
Her mother had only depression.
She saw her mothers mane and smiled,
It looked like raritys.
Applebloom saw raritys friends and family.
Each one was wallowing in despair and sobbing.
It was only normal, she herself was weeping.
Her eyes locked on sweetiebelle.
Oddly she wasn't crying, she was looking down.
'She must be coping in her own way' applebloom thought.
There was a orange hoof around sweetiebelle.
Raritys humming got louder when she realized it was scootaloos.
Her eyes focused on them as she trotted over to them.
She took each step cautiously, careful to not irritate the mourning.
The humming got louder as she got closer the the pair.
Scootaloo turned her head and greeted applebloom with a smile.
The humming suddenly stopped
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Applebloom trotted into the library, she decided to look at the books rarity had always liked.
Applebloom realized she hasn't been to the library often.
She didn't even go to see spike.
Spike had feelings for rarity as well, so this must've been very hard on him.
She skimmed through all the books, but was unable to find the one she was looking for.
She did however find a mystery book.
It seemed to call out to her.
She read the description in the back.
"Murder...."
A shiver ran up her spine, the word was written in a bold red.
The book was a pastel green, the cover had a simple title.
No picture.
The book was about a mare named Cloptrot Sleuth.
Everyone in her school is getting murdered and she plays detective.
Applebloom thought of cheerilie, she died last year.
She forgot how it happened all she knew was that it was a accident.
It was sad, her new teacher isn't very fun like cheerilie was.
Some ponies were happy to have her gone though.
Applebloom put the book in her saddle bags and but five bits on the table.
The library was silent.
Applebloom checked the librarians room,
empty.
Spike wasn't in bed sleeping.
The filly trotted down stares and caught a glimpse of another door.
She knew twilight had a lab by what applejack told her.
Curiosity got the best of her and she opened the door for a brief moment.
The room had all sorts of machines, pumps, levers, and... Tubes.
The tubes were pumping a dark red liquid.
The room reeked of copper, 'probably from them tech stuff' applebloom thought.
Most of the room was composed of gears.
The tubes twisted and turned until finally it led to two locations.
One end went to a very large machine composed of shears and pumps.
The insides were not visible.
The machine gave out metallic screeches, it was as if it was screaming.
The other end went down into a grate that was on the floor.
It led down to a lower level, where the source was.
Before she even stepped into the lair, a hoof was placed on her shoulder.
Applebloom jumped
"What are you doing here applebloom."
Twilight's words themselves were stoic and emotionless.
"O-oh ah was gettin a book... And wow! How clumsy of me! Ah stumbled onto yer fancy place! Ah'm real sorry...."
Applebloom laughed nervously.
She turned around to make eye contact with twilight.
She had on a omniscient smile on, even though her mood or voice did not match it, she had bags under her eyes and her mane was a mess.
Her eyes were blank.
The filly got even more frightened.
"You better get back home, Applejack will be worried. You have a mystery book to keep you company as well."
Applebloom trembled.
She couldn't stop twilight from basically pushing her out the door.
"How did ya know that-"
Applebloom froze up when she saw that twilight's smile was growing wider.
Before she knew it the door closed on her.
Applebloom stared at the door as if it had the answer to whatever just happened.
She ran off to her house in fear that twilight would get weird again.
Taking matters in your own hooves
Applebloom had been reading a few chapters of her book.
She was greatly intrigued by its plot.
Cloptrot never even wanted to get involved in her present predicament, but there she was.
It reminded applebloom of herself, because now she needed to understand what was going on.
She took out a note book, crayons, and a pencil.
One thing she learned from the book was to never write anything down, it would be like a robber leaving his number at the bank he just robbed.
She did however, made a way to label or categorize the suspects and the civilians.
She opened her notebook and wrote some names down.
She would label each of them by color, the yellow would be 'no threat', purple would be 'suspicious', and blue would be 'unsure'.
She added the colors next to each of their names.
Her sister applejack would be placed among the 'no threat', rainbowdash does not yet have a category, neither does pinkie pie, and twilight would obviously would be in the 'suspicious'.
If that's what you want to call the obviously insane, then yes suspicious it is.
Although it went against the most basic rules of the book, applebloom decided on another notebook she'd right down the suspects characteristics.
Subtly was key here.
So she tried to make it as non-descriptive as possible.
She studied the names.
She had written down all the names of everyone in town, at least the ones she remembered.
It was a lot.
A lot of analyzing and interviews that were unaware by the recipient.
But it was worth it.
Because there was a chance,
Rarity would be smiling down on her.
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
There was another murder.
It wasn't a element of harmony though.
Applebloom read about it in the newspaper,
She had training herself not to be squeamish so she could read it.
It had been working, she was still disgusted though.
'NEW VICTIM OF RAMPAGING SERIAL KILLER'
Applebloom focused on the words and prepared herself.
'The latest victim was Teddy Safari, a Pegasus who was known for her love of Daring Do. Like the last body her limbs had been severed off. The victims appeared to be drained of all her fluids. Papers from the famous Daring Do novel have been shoved into her mouth all the way down to her esophagus. Her eyes were stitched shut. The mouth was cut into a ghastly form of smile.'
Applebloom shuddered.
She remembered the injustice that had happened to rarity.
Five words kept appearing in her head though,
'Drained if all her fluids'
She remembered the fluids pumping through the tubes at twilight's lair.
A shiver ran up her spine.
Was it possible twilight was the murderer?
Applebloom mumbled to her self
"She couldn't make it any more obvious, but then again this is twi ah'm talking about. She probably set cameras all round th library.... That's how she saw mah movements.... She probably did it so she can see th suspicious activity."
Apple bloom nodded. Knowing twilight, she would drive herself insane with just about anything. In the end she'll been sane once more.
Nonetheless, twilight was still in the purple category.
Applebloom kept reading through the article.
'When one of the detective undid the stitching on her right eye, a christmas bow was available in her right eye socket. Each eye socket had a christmas bow inside.'
Applebloom gagged, the killer certainly was looking for a laugh.
Applebloom remembered she had seen this mare before.
She refused to sell applebloom a book.
The mare got very angry.
Perhaps she had a bad reputation.
Applebloom thought of twilight once again.
She couldn't help but wonder,
Where's spike?
Applebloom went over to sugar cube corner.
She was venturing out to interview the pinkie mare named pinkie pie.
She always admired the building.
It to her resembled where every pony in ponyville would receive joy.
Now it leaked with misery.
No pony really has seen pinkie for quite some time, not much thought was made about the matter.
Applebloom timidly opened the door, "hello?...", she was answered with the ominous creaking of the door.
The whole place was fine, nothing was broken. Nothing was out of place, except the bouncing pink pony, it was dark and dreary. The walls were tightly embraced by coldness. Not a single ray of light besides for the open door visited the gloomy building.
"Even if pinkie wasn't workin, shouldn't th' cake's be runnin' Sugarcube Corner?",
Ab squinted, trying to make out any suspicious signs
"They're on a trip",
A flat voice broke the fillies concentration.
Sullen steps made their way over to applebloom, it seemed like an eternity for them to make their way over.
"A better question would be as to why you're here.", ab couldn't make out the emotion in this pony. It seemed as though none was there.
Applebloom couldn't possibly take the suspense of whom this was or what was going to happen, she ripped a certain open to see the ponies face.
Light quickly showered pinkies face, she squinted with a angry groan.
"Why did you do that?!"
Pinkie hissed at applebloom.
She could make out the pink mares features now.
She was obviously irritated.
Her eyes were swollen and soaked along with her cheeks.
Her eyes carried dark bags that merely added on the the swelling from her tears.
Pinkies mane was straight and matted, it was a bit tangled as well.
The thing that really startled her was her mood.
She's heard of pinkie being depressed, but now she seemed disgusted by appleblooms presence.
"A-ah'm real sorry.... Ah just didn't recognize ya...."
Applebloom cowered a bit at the pink ponies loud voice.
Appleblooms eyes darted frantically, pinkies followed. The mare did not break her cold gaze from the filly for a extensive amount of time.
The filly could have sworn she heard mumbling in the background. She focused on it. The noise was shrill and weak, whimpering possibly.
Pinkie growled at the filly.
"Yeah cause I totally thought you had night vision.
Are you deaf?",
pinkies eyes pierced applebloom,
"obviously not, cause you just heard me.
So there's no real excuse why you didn't recognize my voice.
Get lost farm pony,
you have no business being here."
Pinkie forced a rough smile as she brought her face closer to appleblooms.
Applebloom opened her mouth to say something, but was interrupted before she could say a word.
The filly was immediately thrown out of the establishment almost as quickly as she got in. She pause for a moment and blinked slowly, she felt as if she just woke up from a odd dream. Was that really Pinkie Pie?
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Applebloom was troubled, she honestly had no clue as to how she would continue on with any of her investigations. It was a bit aggravating to say the least.
She entered the doorway into her rustic home and was immediately greeted with a rather large smile.
Scootaloo's face was a bit too close for comfort.
Applebloom blushed deeply as she became aware of this.
"What are ya doin here?...",
Applebloom to her surprisingly whispered out. Her voice broke a bit, how embarrassing. She immediately averted her eyes downwards.
Scootaloos smile widened just a bit as did her eyes. She was enjoying watching applebloom squirm.
"Is the floor more interesting than me Ab?", scootaloo lifted up appleblooms chin with a oddly cold hoof, "well detective, to answer your question.... I came here with sweetie." The ponies eyes met, applebloom tried frantically to regain her cool.
"D-detective?.." Applebloom looked at scootaloos empty eyes, she shuddered a bit.
"You're asking questions", scootaloo snickered, "thought the name would be clever"
Scootaloo pushed applebloom roughly inside.
"Get in before you freeze you dork."
Scoots the slammed the door shut and remade eye contact with the other filly.
"W-where's sweetie?.." She couldn't help but stutter, she hated doing so though.
Scootaloo lifted a hoof and pointed towards the living room. Applebloom nodded and started to trot off to see her friend.
"Where do you think your going?.." Scootaloo yanked on appleblooms shoulder and stopped her "she's upset."
Ab whimpered and went upstairs,
She had work to do anyway.
Applebloom sat upon her bed and took out her note book.
She hesitated for a moment and espied her surroundings.
Nothing was out of the ordinary.
This was her same habitual room, nothing new was poking out or anything.
It just felt odd.
Nonetheless, she opened her note book and took out her crayons.
Besides pinkie,
she had interviewed several other ponies.
Common towns folk, neighbors, acquaintances, and of course pinkie pie.
The commoners were not very affected by the death of rarity,
and very few knew if teddy Safari.
Teddy Safari didn't even live in Ponyville,
neither did her family members.
Her cousin lived in Coltifornia,
a pearl white unicorn mare with a short pink mane.
Regardless, nopony cared all that much.
They did express sympathy though.
Pinkie was in a very irritable state at the moment,
so it was best not to bother her.
Twilight though,
she was a outlandish one for sure.
Twilight's smile ran through appleblooms mind.
She shuddered.
Twilight was delicate, not unstable.
She's known twilight for so long.
Applebloom remembered the tubes pumping through out the unicorns lair.
Twilight made potions and did experiments,
that was possibly the answer for it.
She would never make it so palpable.
Twilight was brilliant and thought things ahead,
maybe her mind was to unstable to do so at the moment.
She then remembered the noises in pinkies home.
They were weak yet frantic.
Distressed?
Pinkie certainly was not.
She didn't seem like it.
Applebloom lifted her blue crayon and marked pinkie.
She then wrote down the characteristics.
Perhaps was that of fluttershy, rainbow dash, or maybe the cakes?
Applebloom lifted he head from her note book and noticed it was becoming dark.
She looked out the window.
Frost crept upon the window pane gently.
Applebloom rested her forehead on the window.
This was difficult.
She let out a soft sigh.
Usually rarity would warm her hooves on cold nights such as this.
Applebloom closed her eyes.
She could still hear raritys soothing humming.
She would delicately brush appleblooms mane.
A few tears rolled down appleblooms cold cheeks.
She turned to the bed and got under the covers.
Ab shut her eyes and began to drift of to sleep.
She shuddered.
That feeling returned,
something didn't feel right.
The filly awoke and squinted into the darkness.
She could see a pair of eyes in the pitch black room.
A deep mumble could be heard.
The eyes were moving rapidly as though the body was twitching.
She clenched her eyes shut and opened them once more,
Fearful that the intruder would be merely inches from her face.
But it was gone.
