The Lost Sounds of Equestria
I was just starting out. Hard work and lots of practice kept my sound alive during these smaller gigs that I always perform. School dances, the local night clubs, and even at family weddings eventually lost their thrill. I hate to say it, but I wish my career would pick up so I could leave home.
Tonight was just another show in an endless chain of local stardom, but I wanted way more than just a spot at a small bar or some lame school event. I wanted to play at huge places like the Staples Center or something. Dreams were all I had left of my career here. I went to get my gear and headed for my next show over at a local nightclub when I noticed a small spark of purple light. I was shocked for a moment, but when I looked around and saw nothing I just went on my way.
The drive was rather short and uneventful. It was all but extraordinary that night. The same moon, the same stars, and the same old town. I went in to set up for my show when a few cracks of the same purple light swirled around me. What was this? Whatever it was doing this must be a coincidence. I was nothing special. Just a teen in a small town trying to make a living with what I loved to do most. I was a really nice guy and had many good friends who loved to joke around a lot. These few people taught me what friendship was. It was loyalty, trust, fun, and even better an adventure.
I set up my set just before the crowd started to flood in. The curtain was closed and I was still making last minute preparations. I checked my turntables, my laptop, my amps, my speakers, and my headphones to make sure they hadn’t blown. I placed my hands on the turntables to get a soundcheck started, but several of the purple sparks began to appear around me before opening a portal that seemed to open suck me in. I grabbed hold of my turntables because wherever this thing was taking me, I was gonna have music. I grabbed my shades, kept a grip on my toboggan, and tried to grab my laptop which was quickly sucked into the large glowing vortex. Before I knew it I was hit in the head by my turntables and fell unconscious....
I woke up in a forest of some sort. I had no recollection of being carried, I didn’t see any buildings close by which was weird because the forest in my town are pretty thinned out. This was a heavily forested area. Had I been dragged away from whatever it was that was sucking me in? Well to answer my question, I would have to walk. This forest was very mysterious. I had heard very loud, but also very distant growls and squawks. There were some hisses that put a jump in my step and eventually, I could see the moonlight. I heard a rustle in the bushes not to far behind me which made my pace quicken. My heart was pounding wishing that whatever snake, eagle, or mountain lion or whatever wasn’t about to fly out and mutilate me. I heard another rustle which put me in a full fledged panic. I was sprinting for the exit of the forest before hearing a loud roar and what felt like claws digging into my back. I looked back to see a giant creature that had the body and head of a lion, horns of a goat, and had a snakes forked tongue. I tried to run even faster, but the loss of blood only weakened me. Before long I was out of the forest and the beast retreated. The gashes in my back were pretty serious, so I looked around in hopes of finding a town nearby. I guess luck was my friend seeing as there was a small town that was at least a five minute walk away.
Those five minutes were the most excruciatingly painful moments of my life. I nearly passed out five times in the first two minutes, I had to walk in the most awkward position ever conceived to keep from losing anymore blood, and my open wound took much more injury when I tripped and rolled down a small hill. Talk about hellacious pain. I reached a large building built from a tree just as the sun started to rise. Just as I walked past the small establishment, my body began to go limp. My body was giving out from exhaustion and dehydration. Forgot how long it was since I drank anything. Was this how I was gonna go out? In my Converse All Stars, Beats head phones, torn Vans jacket, and wearing shades? Uh.. Hell yeah. I accepted my fate. I lifted my headphones to my ears and played the song Love you to Death by Type O Negative and slowly and painfully fell unconscious for the second time in the last twenty-four hours.
My eyes opened to the shining of a bright white light. I turned off of my back and felt no pain. Wait, hadn’t I been killed by some weird Chimeric thing? THATS the word I was looking for! Chimera. I sat up with bandages wrapped around my wounded upper half which was also unclothed. Only thing that remained on were my shades, and my head phones. The song now was Battlefield by Blind Guardian. I sat up quickly to look for my clothes which lie in a chair over by the window. The jacket and plain white T-shirt had been mended. Better than any thing I had seen before. I tried to stand before getting dizzy and sitting back down on the bed. At least whoever was doing this had cleaned my black skinny jeans. My shoes were over on the floor by my clothes, but what really shocked me was that all my DJ equipment that had come through the portal was sitting on the other side of my private little hospital room. I looked down before standing up slowly and advanced towards my clothing. I put my arms in the sleeves before bringing the shirt over my head, and I picked up the jacket before looking at myself in the mirror. My light brown tan, my spiky black hair, and my head phones. What was really bothering me was my eyesight. I took off the shades and everything was way brighter. I tossed on my jacket, checked my pockets for my comb, combed my hair, and walked out out of the room. I walked down the hallway which was strangely empty. I thought about something for a moment. ‘Can’t forget my gear in this place.’ Went back to grab my equipment and ran out down the hallway. I heard voices the farther I advanced down the seemingly deserted corridor. “....don’t know where he came from. Maybe we should send a letter to the princess” the voice said before hearing the light taps on the floor emanating from my footsteps. I walk around the corner seeing two....ponies conversing. My mind twitched at what I was witnessing. I wanted to run, but my feet were frozen in place. I relaxed but my mind was clouded. Was I dreaming? I moved a hand up to pinch myself. I was in fact awake, and if judgement served any place in this they must have human beings in this dimension.
“Hey, you shouldn’t be out of your room” one of the nurses told me. There was something oddly attractive about her. “Oh, sorry. Just didn’t want to over stay my welcome here. Where is here exactly?” I asked completely dumbfounded by the fact that I had no memory of what happened. “This is the Ponyville Hospital. You are very lucky to be alive after the chimera claw wound you took” she smiled and came over to me as if she was analyzing my body. “What’s your name, sir?” She asked me. “My name is Troy. How did you find my equipment?” I asked even more confused. This place wasn’t only crazy to me, but it was way too friendly. “We had our best mare trace back to where you appeared. We found you unconscious in front of the library. Immediately we had a few pegasus ponies bring you in” she told me and immediately I looked around at the other “ponies” in the waiting area. Most either had a horn and wings. Only a few look at least remotely normal. I got a little dizzy and stumbled before the nurse came and helped me regain my balance. I smiled when I realized that they all had really human features about them physically. “Hey nurse, what is your name sweetheart?” I asked with a playful smile. She blushed a little and pecked my cheek. “I’m Redheart. Nurse Redheart.” I slowly stood up and lifted one of her hands, I mean hooves and kissed it gently. “It’s a pleasure to meet such a beautiful specimen such as yourself” I told her, ushering forth a blush from the beautiful white mare. I trotted off towards the door. “Would you please keep an eye on my equipment, dear? I will return shortly.” She nodded.
I walked out into this new world and took a really deep breath. The fact that I could breathe meant that the air wasn’t poisonous. Great sign. I walked around town slowly and wincing a small bit. It took a lot to try to walk a great distance, so I tried to find a place to replenish. Come to think of it, I hadn’t eaten since yesterday afternoon. I walk around letting my nose do the work because I had absolutely no clue as to where I was going. Then the smell of something familiar hit my nose and I began to drool a little. I walked to the source and was thrown on to my back as soon as I entered and rang the bell at the entrance. “Hello! Welcome to Sugarcube Corner. You new here, human? How did you get here? What do you-” I stopped her with what usually makes girls I meet be quiet. A kiss. She certainly did stop, for the moment anyway. She smiled and helped me up noticing I was injured. “Do you have cupcakes? I could smell them practically all the way across town” I asked the hyperactive pony in front of me. “We have cupcakes, pie, cake, mostly any kind of pastry, some bread, and a lot of different stuff.” She was a lot more relaxed. “Could I maybe get a blueberry muffin?” I asked feeling a little guilty. I never realized what girls or whatever felt when I kissed them to quiet them down. “Sure! I’ll be right back.” I gulped and looked at her. “Wait,” she turned around and looked at me. “sorry for just kissing you like that.” She smiled and came over to me. I looked into her eyes for a moment. They were big and blue and beautiful. Before I could tell her I had to get going, she planted a quick kiss on my lips. “It’s okay. I kinda liked it. My names Pinkie Pie, whats yours?” I looked at her. “It’s Troy.” I sharply sniffed the air. “You know your muffins are done right?” I told her. She turned around and charged for the kitchen getting the muffins out of the oven just in time. I grabbed my muffin and headed for the door. I thought about something before stepping out. I walked back over and kissed the pink pony again. The taste was rich with sugary sweets. She obviously enjoyed a lot of sweets due to the taste, but she managed to stay in shape despite the incredible amount of treats and pastries that she consumed. “We’re gonna have a party over at the library tonight. You wanna come?” she asked me just before I turned around. “Sure, but first I gotta get a place. Don’t have a place to stay except for the hospital. Got clawed by a Chimera last night.” I told her. She looked at me just as I walked out. “Jeez, I nearly starved trying to get something to eat..” I stopped when I heard the sound of...music. I think it came from a tree not too far away. I started to speed up. The sound of wubs...I was so happy. I knocked on the door as hard as I could, because if I didn’t they wouldn’t be able to hear me.
After knocking a few times with no result, I turned around and looked around for the hospital. Just as I began to walk, the door opened behind me and a voice called out to me. “What do you want?!” She asked me a bit peeved. The music played on and I saw her horn glowing. I guess she was controlling it. “I love the music! I came by to listen in on it!” I yelled back. She was obviously thrown off by my appearance here, but she let me come in anyway. The place was just perfect. The acoustics worked with the ever flowing sounds that radiated from some unknown place in the house. From what I guessed, there were speakers everywhere. Her horn stopped glowing for a moment for her to actually concentrate on me. She noticed my apparel and thought for a moment. “Well your the first DJ to drop in here in Equestria. Where’s your stuff?” she asked. Wow she got right to the point. Seems like she was busy. She was a little sweaty and smelled of something.....sweet. “Vinyl who are you talking to?” I hear a voice call from the distance. “Just another human that showed up. He is a DJ” she told the somewhat adoring voice radiating from up the staircase. “Ugh....well try and keep it quick Vinyl.” the voice said. “I guess your name is Vinyl then” I said with a smile. “Vinyl Scratch more specifically. Whats your name?” she asked. I couldn’t see her eyes due to her shades in the way, but for some reason I knew she was looking me in the eye. I took off my shades and looked at her. The only odd feature that contradicted my whole look was my red eye color. She gasped quietly. I didn’t know why, but I must have caught her off guard a bit. “It’s Troy. So what have you heard about this party? I was invited, but I have no clue where the library is” I told her, but all she did was look at me. “Are you wearing contacts?” she asked me curiously. I took a deep breath. “No. This is my natural eye color.” I looked at her in a little confusion. “Why do you ask?” I asked her. “Oh, no reason bro I just wanted to know” she said. “So....about that party, are you going?” I asked her. “Yeah, I’m DJ-ing it.” She was happy now. Smiling even. “Would you like to walk with me over there later?” she asked me. I thought about it for a moment. “Sure, why not?” She smiled. I smiled and gave her a nod and I started to walk off. She turned around and walked into her home. Almost immediately the music came back on.
