The blue alicorn sat on the side of the hill. She always sat alone. Nopony ever came, and she liked it that. She liked to have a little time to think while she raised the moon. Thoughts raced through her head every night, and she had a different thought each night. This night was different though.
Luna walked up to the hill. She saw her sister’s sunset. The sun looked beautiful although Luna prefers a darker side. The sun made the sky turn into an orangey pink. It was covered with light yellow aura. Luna still trotted up the hill, not forgetting what she had to do. Once she got to the top of the hill she started to make her horn light up with dark blue aura. She started to lift the moon onto the horizon. The moon made the sky blast into a dark blue. Luna watched as her beautiful night rein over the sky. This made the pony think about her past. She remembered it like yesterday.
She was in her room ready to rise the night. She had many toy pony dolls around her. She was playing with them nonstop for a couple of weeks. Luna's eyes filled up with tears as she lifted the moon into the sky. The tears dripped down her face and hit the floor. She looked out a small window and started to cry as she saw all of the ponies in Equestria turn off their lights and sleep under the beautiful night sky. Celestia could hear her cries from her room. Every night she heard them. She could always hear Luna, and most of the time she enjoyed to hear her playing, but lately she hasn’t. It’s a little abnormal for an adult mare to play with dolls.
Luna didn’t want to think that the dolls were toys, there were more to here than just that. Luna felt as if they real ponies. All of the dolls enjoyed the night and stayed up late to watch the moon and stars. They would fly with Luna around Equestria. Celestia thought this just might be a little phase, but she soon learned it was more. Luna talked to the dolls and they listened to her. Celestia heard Luna cry about how she is unappreciated, how she is just an unknown princess.
Celestia tried to help Luna through this. She tried to comfort her but every time she tried Luna would push her away; “Go away Tia, my kingdom and I just don’t want to talk right now” Luna would say while lifting up her dolls and hugging them tightly.
“I just thought that you might want to talk about what your.”
“Thou does not talk about feelings, thou does not care!” Luna made one of her dolls say and stand up for her. Tears filled her eyes as Celestia left the room. Celestia always knew that she would make it worse, but she just hoped one day Luna would talk to her about how she was feeling. Celestia thought that she could help her. She could help Luna get noticed in the world, and she could help with supporting the night.
It was a cold night when Luna came into Celestia’s room with five fillies behind her. The fillies were shivering and they had some snow on them. They all wore a little brown cape that were torn and worn out. Celestia was confused about what Luna wanted. “Tia can thou speak now?” she asked,
“Yes sister what is it?”
“I-I have thought of something.”
“What is it?”
“A new revolution”
“What do you mean?”
“A new empire that support the night,”
“No Luna, there will be no empire.”
“But Tia these fillies love the night, they enjoy it! Why can't you.”
“Lulu I said my answer! Now leave!”
“No! Why do you hate everything I offer?”
“I said leave!” Celestia yelled. Luna stood in front of her. Tears came down her face as she left the room with the fillies. Celestia immediately regretted what she said. She never meant to hurt Luna; she didn’t even realize how important this was for Luna. Celestia looked at the floor where Luna was standing. A bit of frost was there from the fillies, but Celestia didn’t attend to clean it up. She wanted the frost to stay there, to remind her how terrible she was. She could never forgive herself for this. Luna has done so much for her, and she rejected her only wish. How she rejected her sister like that. She just broke the poor fillies hearts. She didn’t even think about it.
Celestia and Luna were in the Canterlot library. Celestia was reading an old book that she’s had for awhile. The cover was old and dusty, but Celestia didn’t mind as long as she cleaned it later. Luna was playing with her pony dolls. Celestia had recently heard Luna say one night in her room that the dolls were her only friends. They were her only family. Celestia cautiously watched Luna every so often. She worried about her, and she didn’t want her to get hurt. A guard came into the room. He was sweating and it looked like he had been recently abused. His arm was bleeding and there was neck chain marks around his neck.
Celestia ran over to the guard who was half dead. Luna stood and watched. She held her blue and white pony doll closely in her hooves knowing this wasn’t a Canterlot guard. “Sir what has happened,” Luna asked,
“The Crystal Empire,” he said with heavy breathing, “It has been conquered.”
“What do thou mean?” Luna asked,
“A dark king. has taken over and is abusing everypony their”
Celestia’s eyes met Luna’s and they both nodded. They both knew what they had to do. They ran out of the room together. Their hooves made loud noises as they ran across the hallway to the outside world. The two doors that lead to the exit were big and heavy. Luna rarely goes outside. She only goes out on nighttime flights. Celestia opened the door and a ray of sunlight slowly crept into the castle. Celestia took off into the day. Luna stayed at the entrance for a minute. She held her pony doll tightly. She didn’t know what most of the ponies in Equestria would think of her since she never really goes outside.
Luna took a step into the sunlight. It was hot, and Luna quickly jerked away. Luna would rather prefer the cold than the heat. She could hear a faint voice calling her name. It was Celestia’s voice. Luna sighed and started fly out of the castle with her pony doll next to her. In the day, Luna could see all of the ponies in Equestria. Each of them had something special about them, and they were all so pretty. Luna envied them as they all had somepony who loved them. She watched the little fillies run home to their families, and the ponies special somepony nuzzled them. They all had their family when all Luna had was her sister. Her parents were dead, and all Luna really wanted was a loving arm she could run into.
Celestia wanted to comfort Luna with her issues, but she knew she couldn’t think about that right now. They both traveled across the land. Snow started to fall and the land grew colder. Celestia shivered a bit but Luna enjoyed a change of temp. The two sisters flew across the cold snowy land until they found an empire filled with sad ponies. Both the sisters landed in the middle of the city. All of the ponies around the two princesses cheered and ran over to Celestia. They all shook her hoof and thanked her for coming. Luna looked at her sister who was getting all of the love from the ponies. Why wasn’t she getting any love from the ponies? They all surrounded Celestia, but none were around the princess of the night.
Celestia stopped focusing on the ponies around her and remembered why she was here. Celestia stopped shaking ponies hooves and started to head to a dark fortress. The fortress was black and had dark magic coming out of it. Celestia and Luna both entered the fortress and found a black unicorn sitting on a throne reading. His mane was slicked back and his horn was half black half red. Instead of regular teeth he had sharp vicious fangs. Luna put her pony doll in the corner of the room so it wouldn’t be ruined from the tyrant she was looking at.
The monster put his book down and looked at the two sisters. Luna felt scared, but brave at the same time. “Good evening” the black stallion said,
“Release the Empire at once, we do not want to do this the hard way” Celestia demanded,
“I don’t even get a hello, that’s a bit rude. Especially from a princess.”
“Hello Sombra” Luna moaned,
“You know him?” Celestia asked,
“I helped him from his fear when he was little” Luna explained, “When he was good at least.”
“I found my true self Luna, thanks to you” Sombra yelled. Luna looked confused. She made him evil, but how?
“Release the Empire Sombra!” Celestia yelled again,
“How about no!” Sombra yelled,
“I guess we have to do this the hard way Tia” Luna smirked. Celestia nodded and they both charged at him. He quickly teleported away and all that was left was dust. Luna was coughing while Celestia was looking around for the monster she was fighting. Suddenly Luna received a large amount of pain in her mind and she was launched to the wall in front of her. The smoke started to clear up and Celestia found Sombra. She summoned a large yellow sword that was glowing. Luna got back into the battle and she summoned a large blue glowing sword. They both charged Sombra. Sombra started to chargeback with his horn glowing with dark magic.
Luna quickly teleported behind Sombra while Celestia jumped over him. Sombra couldn’t stop running and he charged into a wall. His horn was wedged in and he couldn’t get out. Luna started to charge at him with her sword. He didn’t have that much time to get out. The tyrant kept pulling and pulling, but it was no use. Suddenly Sombra’s eyes glowed white and his horn came out of the wall. Instead of a horn being on his head there was also a twenty-foot long transparent blade on his head were his horn also was. He quickly jerked his head and hit Luna sending her to the other side of the room.
The blue alicorn landed hard on the floor and was now unconscious. “Luna!” Celestia screamed,
“Face it there is no way you can save you sister now Celestia.”
Celestia started to charge at Sombra with full power. Her sword started to glow brighter and she charged at the tyrant. Sombra’s head swung around and his sword clashed with Celestia’s. Celestia jerked his head out of the way and stabbed his chest. At first there was a long pause as darkness came out of Sombra, but then he started to laugh. His horn started to glow again, and he blasted Celestia with dark magic. Celestia fell to the floor, her eye were filled with a dark aura. Luna started to get up and get back in the battle. She saw her sister on the floor. Her eyes were green and red and she had a purple aura come out of her eyes. Luna watched in fright as she saw her sister breathe heavily. “There is just no giving in to you two” Sombra laughed,
Luna glared at the tyrant who hurt her sister. “Ha please, like you have a chance” Luna laughed feeling braver than she really did,
“Oh please, you two can't kill me together, I doubt you can kill me on your own.”
“Murder isn’t my style.”
“Then what is?”
“Isolation.”
Luna started to charge at Sombra, but this time she only used her horn. Luna’s skin turned darker and her eyes were no longer the eyes she had a minute ago. They were now a dark turquoise with dark blue pupils. Surprisingly enough she was winning. “You fight well, I’m surprised you don’t need your older sister” Sombra smirked,
“Oh, please I might love my sister but I don’t need her all the time.”
“Really?”
“Now for you isolation” Luna started. Her mane soon started to grow and change. Her eyes turned white and glowed. The fortress started to shake and shrivel to pieces. You could hear the ponies screams from the outside. For once Luna felt powerful as she banished Sombra. Sombra’s body soon turned into shadows. Luna picked up her older sister and stormed out of the fortress. She could see the ponies flee with their shackles around their neck. Luna was surprised to see that she didn’t feel bad for them. She sort of felt as if they disserved it for, not knowing who she was.
It was long after the empire fell. Celestia started to wake up. Luna had placed her on a soft patch of snow. “Luna!” Celestia screamed, but then she saw that everything was just fine.
“Yes sister?”
“What happened?’
“Oh … um.”
“Wow, you took down Sombra all by yourself.”
“Uh … yeah”
“I guess no one could stop him from banishing the empire,” Celestia said as she looked at the land the empire used to be,
“Y-Yeah I guess not.”
“Well, come on Lulu, we have some rest to get.”
Luna started to fly away with Celestia, but she looked back on what she had done.
Luna sat in her room remembering what she had forgotten. Her little pony doll. She had forgotten family. You can never forget family. She lay on her bed with the other pony dolls crying. She had forgotten something valuable to her, she had forgotten something that she can never get again. It was her fault. If she hadn’t banished the empire she would be able to get it again, but she can't. Luna slapped herself hard on her face. She ran into a corner and smashed her head. She felt she disserved to be punished, she could not forgive herself. Celestia walked into the room where Luna was beating herself in. “Lulu what are you” Celestia started,
“Go away Tia!” Luna yelled. Tears were dripping down from her eyes and her head was bleeding. Celestia came over to help but Luna pushed her away, “I said go away!”
Celestia left the room giving her sister some space. Celestia didn’t want to leave she wanted to be there for her sister, but the more she tried the more she was pushed away. She opened the door a bit to watch Luna for a minute. Blood was dripping down her head and she was crying loud sobs. “N-N-No pony enjoys my night” Luna cried. She snuggled her dolls tightly. She mainly snuggled two special ones. One of them was a white alicorn with an orange and blue mane, and the other was a blue alicron with a purple mane. “No pony” Luna cried again to the two stuffed alicorns.
Luna looked out in the window to see the Everfree forest. She whipped away her tears and took her and her two stuffed alicorns in the forest. It was dark and Luna heard noises, but nothing lived in the forest. Luna looked around, “Who’s there?” she asked. More noises came and rustling bushes started to attract Luna’s ears. “Thou come out or I will deliver thy pain” Luna demanded.
“I am out” a voice said
“I cannot see you,” Luna said, “come out or you will be sorry.”
“Like I said I am out” some noises were made behind Luna. She didn’t dare to turn around to see. Something whispered in Luna’s ears in a monstrous voice, “Face … your … FEARS”
Luna jumped and turned around to see a group of dark deadly storm clouds shaped like an alicorn head directly towards Luna. Luna quickly jumped down covering her stuffed dolls with her body as the monster swooped down almost hitting them. Luna saw the monster that attacked her. She looks exactly like Luna when she banished the empire but was made out of clouds and had cloud armor on. “Who are you?” Luna asked,
“I am you, I am you fear all mushed up into one” the cloud monster said,
“Well, you will leave me or you feel thy pain of the night!” Luna yelled,
“Fine, but trust me I am always in you” the cloud monster smirked. She ran into Luna’s body. Luna breathed heavily as she could feel the nightmare course through her inner soul. Her two pony dolls dropped to the ground as she also fell. Everything was turning dark and Luna could barely breath. Everything went black.
When Luna woke up she found that it was morning. Celestia must have lowered the moon for Luna. It was a good big sister thing to do, but for some reason Luna was disgusted by it. She got up and looked around for her two pony dolls. That she dropped earlier. She found them by a tree. The blue alicorn was torn and a little ripped up while the other was perfectly fine. “Why would somepony do this to you?” she asked her doll. She snuggled him tightly. Some cotton fell out of the doll, but Luna picked it up. She grabbed her other doll and headed back to the castle. Once she got back she was going to sew up the doll so he wouldn’t be broken.
When Luna returned to the castle she immediately noticed Celestia. Celestia ran up and hugged her and swung her around, “Oh Lulu I was so worried about you. I made every guard look for you, where were you?” Celestia cheered,
“Celestia, Tia I’m fine. I just crashed out in the Everfree forest, now can I go I kind of have to do something” Luna explained while looking at her broken doll. Celestia let go of Luna and continued doing some paperwork she was doing. Luna went back to her room. She put the white alicorn doll in a pile with all of her other dolls. She placed her blue one on a table and grabbed a sewing needle. She laced blue thread through the needle and carefully sewed the broken pony back together. “Good! You're all back to normal” Luna said while snuggling her little doll.
It’s been eight nights since Luna has been out of the castle and she has been nonstop worrying. She keeps on thinking about what her cloud fear had said how she is always in her. How long had her fear has known about her? Luna looked at her old broken doll. There was stitch marks in his stomach, but he was still him. She looked out her window to see a great view of the Everfree forest. She wondered if her fear would come out if she entered the forest again so that she could get some answers and give a pop in her. She looked back at her room and leaped into the night sky. Her wings glided through the cool air, and her mane blended into the stars. She landed deep in the forest where her sister wouldn’t be able to reach.
Luna looked around on where her fear might come, but she couldn’t find anything. She wanted to go back to the castle now. The forest started to creep her out, and she wasn’t all that comfortable. Her wings opened up and she started to take off back to the castle, but something was pulling on her night sky tail. She flapped harder, but it was no use. She couldn’t get away. “Who dares to pull on thy tail of thy night?” Luna shrieked. She heard an evil laugh from somewhere, but she didn’t know. The laugh was coming from all directions. “Show yourself!” Luna shouted. Dark matter appeared around Luna’s tail.
“I think it is about time,” a voice said. The dark matter crawled on her skin and into her eyes. Luna could feel the pain of the darkness rush through her veins. Luna could barely talk. Her eyes turned white and she fell to the ground. She slowly got up, but she was different. Her eyes were dark turquoise and her pupils were now dark purple. “There will be no day anymore, the night will stay, the night will rein!” Luna laughed. She flew back to the castle with an evil grin smacked right on her face.
She went back to her room and saw a white alicorn doll with a rainbow mane that her sister got her. Luna lifted it up onto her bed. She opened up a secret compartment in the wall that contained a small dagger only to be used in a dire situation. Luna didn’t care though. Her pupils shrank and her right eye started to twitch. She held the knife and glared over at the doll that was lying on her bed. She started to grin. Sharp teeth showed as she neared the doll. Luna raised the dagger in the air and quickly lowered it down to the pony doll. The princess of the night stabbed the hard and saw the stuffing fly out of the doll. Luna stopped and froze. she looked at the doll. The doll was flat and had no stuffing in it. “A-Am I going insane?” she asked herself as she put down the dagger, her eyes looked around the room to see that stuffing was everywhere, “I guess I am.”
Luna looked at the time. It was almost time to lower the moon. “No” Luna demanded to herself, “I will not lower my beautiful night, we will not fall!”
When it was ready for the sun to rise Celestia tried to raise the sun up, but the moon wouldn’t go down. She tried to lower it, but it kept on going up. Celestia looked around for Luna. There was no sign of her. She was gone. Celestia looked around for her missing sister. She checked her room, but all she found was the stabbed doll. Stuffing was everywhere, and there were multiple stab marks in the bed. Celestia froze in shock as she saw this. She knew that Luna had been depressed and had anxiety problems, but she didn’t know about this. She picked up the flatten doll with her magic and put the stuffing back in her. After Celestia cleaned up the stuffing she left the room to the throne room. The stain glass windows were shining in the moonlight and glowed around the room. From the hallways, Celestia could hear hoof steps from the throne room.
Celestia ran to the throne room hoping that she would see her sister. She did. Luna was pacing around the two thrones, which they sat upon together. Luna was frowning and took a deep glare at Celestia. “Sister, why do you not lower the moon?” Celestia asked her younger sister,
“Everypony plays in your wretched day while they all sleep through my beautiful night!”
“Luna.”
“But that will end now! There will be no day anymore just my glorious night!” darkness formed around Luna and she started to change. Electric bolts came out of her eyes. Darkness came out of the ground and grew upon her skin. It quickly raged into her blood and soon her whole entire body was a dark navy blue. Her mane grew and became more transparent. Her wings shriveled up and shedded into dark deadly wings. Her teeth grew into sharp fangs that could puncture a pony to death. The dark pony laughed a little then gave Celestia a dark deadly glare.
“Luna, w-what has happened to you?”
“I am my true self, I am what is on the inside. I am my own fear, I am stronger than myself and best of all I am stronger than you!”
The monster looked at herself. She looked at what she had become, and she liked it. Armor started to grow out of the monster's skin. The armor was blue. The monster stood up on her hind legs. “Surrender the day, or else we will have to do this the hard way!” she stomped on the ground and all of the stain glass windows shattered into pieces. The princess of the day looked at all of the broken windows around her. Celestia closed her eyes. Golden armor formed around her. “So it is going to be like this.” The monster growled.
The two charged at each other. The monster was faster though and she was able to scratch Celestia with her horn. Celestia jerked her body away and then clicked horns with her former sister. “I don’t want to do this Lulu!” Celestia shouted,
“You fool!” the princess of the night laughed. She pushed her sisters head out of the way and stabbed her horn into her. Tears down Celestia’s face as blood slowly dripped down. The monster pulled her horn out of the princess of the day’s body. Her horn was bloody, but that didn’t seem to bother her. Blood from the monsters horn dripped down onto her face as she saw her sister fall to the ground. “Like I said, you’re a fool.”
Celestia slowly got up. Her horn started to glow and she blasted her sister. Luna was sent flying back, but she broke her fall by flying before she hit the ground. The monster took heavy breaths. The monsters horn started to light up with dark blue aura. Darkness swarmed around the princess of the night and she sent a beam of pure darkness towards her sister. Celestia saw the beam go straight towards her. Celestia’s horn lit up with a yellow aura and she shielded herself in a yellow transparent force field. The darkness surrounded the force field and slowly dissolved into thin air. Celestia withdrew her force field and flew out through one of the broken stain glass windows. The monster followed short behind her.
Celestia flew as fast as she could away from the beast, but her sister was faster. Celestia’s tears flew down her face and she flapped harder. Her blood dripped down her body and flew into her sister’s face. “Running won't help you!” the monster shouted at the top of her lungs. Dark storm clouds filled the sky and lightning bolts shot around the two alicorns. Celestia gracefully dodged blasts that were coming from Luna’s horn. Violet beams of darkness surrounded Celestia. The beams of darkness blasted Celestia and she fell fast to the ground. Her sister drove down and her horn started to light up with dark magic. A bolt of lightning blasted down and Luna shot her sister with a ball of darkness. Celestia fell to the ground faster than lightning. Celestia crashed through a cement roof and fell to the ground hard.
Blood came out of Celestia’s stomach and back. She could feel a couple of ribs break and her spine grew weak. Drips of blood came out of her mouth. She turned her head a bit to see what she had been looking for. The Elements of Harmony. She slowly got up but fell to the ground. She crawled over to a stone podium the elements were on. Her body shook and shivered, but she couldn’t stop now. Not now not ever. She was only a couple feet away from the elements. The princess of the dark flew into the room. Her horn started to absorb darkness. Dark chains came out of the ground and tightly wrapped around Celestia’s neck and squeezed tightly. Celestia gave out a voiceless scream. Celestia tried her best to get at least one breath of air, but it was impossible. “Now that you’re out of the picture I shall no longer sit in your shadow. Now you’ll have to lay in my shadow, and my shadow shall cast upon your burial ground!” the princess shouted.
All Celestia could do was say her last breath of air, “I’m sorry sister” her horn started to light up and she picked up the Elements of Harmony. The elements swirled around her and the chains soon broke off of Celestia’s neck. A blast of light hit her sister. Luna gave out a deadly scream. For her everything went white.
Luna finally raised the moon up on the hill. Her set on the part where she laid for a thousand years. She could never remember why she ever wanted to turn evil in the first place. She slowly walked down the hill reminding herself, “You cannot forgive, what you cannot forget” I sort of like how she cannot forget what she cannot forgive, cause what she cannot forget is,
me.
