Author's Note
An idea I've had for a while. As always, let me know about any errors or parts that I should flesh out, and I'll try to fix them as soon as I can!

Princess Luna stood in the dreamscape, her eyes gazing lovingly upon each and every vision in the calm realm.
That was one word to describe it, calm. Ponies may have nightmares, but Luna was always ready to ease their fears. She could always partake in the dreams as well, comforting foals or making the elderly young, if only for a time. It gave her peace of mind, knowing that she could always find joy in her night.
But she yearned to view beyond Equestria, beyond the planet. There were other worlds out there, she could feel it, but she hadn’t dared to explore the glowing expanse beyond her domain.
Truth be told, she was scared.
Scared that she would find something terrible, that would bring war to Equestria.
Or even more terrifying, nothing at all. That the dust mote in the great canvas of the universe they called home was all alone. It was unbearable, the possibility that they were all alone.
But tonight, she would explore. She dared to gaze beyond her comforting home, to discover if there were others.
She reflexively closed her dream-self’s eyes, focusing on the barrier that surrounded the dancing flights of fancy. She took a step forward, then another, and another.
She strode onwards, filled with the will to learn, and felt a sensation like cold water run across her. She opened her eyes, and gasped.
She was out. And before her stretched even more of the dreamscape, but uncontrolled. Great orbs of light drifted about slowly, some clustered together, others distanced. And one stood out in front of her, one that shone with the glow of a thousand, a million, a billion dreams.
Luna tentatively reached out a hoof, before tapping the sphere. Immediately a flood of memories and dreams washed over her, images flashing by. Views of bloody battlefields, bipedal creatures lying on the ground, swords flashing as others clashed, covered in shining metal rings. Then one of more bipeds, these covered in sandy clothing, carrying strange metal and wood clubs. They nudged more of their kind forward, these ones dressed in what Luna recognized as the new suits worn by the nobles.
She watched as a great metal bird soared above the covered creatures, before it dropped multiple figures. These quickly fell, before opening huge flaps of cloth, catching the air and drifting down. As the former began rushing the supposed nobles ahead, others stayed behind and aimed their clubs at the others. They pulled something, and immediately loud bangs and white flashes resounded, and the floating ones returned in kind. Creatures on both sides fell, some clutching their chest, others with a hole in their head. It was awful.
Then other things appeared. The creatures, dressed in gaily colored cloth, swayed slowly to a symphony, with dimmed lights glinting about. Others, these revealing furless skin of varying shades, running along a path outlined in white. One, with a dark brown skin, broke ahead of the pack and rushed across a checkered line, raising its forelegs in the air as it cheered loudly.
And then others, what looked like a family, sitting in oddly shaped chairs, heads bent as they held hands, looking down upon a feast of vegetables, bread, and grossly, meat. They murmured together, words too low for Luna to understand. Then another creature came up, sitting before a strange box with a glowing pane of glass, tapping its- claws?- against a number of small cubes. Equestrian words appeared on the screen, letters of black forming on white in an appalling conglomeration of grammar. The creature smiled, before pressing something.
Then the same creature appeared again, but wearing a different set of cloth. It had an angered look on its face, the snarl a universal sign of fury. She watched as it hammered the little squares, and watched as it seemingly argued with the glowing box. Hateful words were exchanged, the kind that would not be forgiven easily.
And another flash forward. The creature was back, and creating words once again. This time, however, it seemed to be conceding the disagreement it had previously, apologizing to the cube in silence. And it began writing- for she saw that was what it had been doing before-, but this time the words came smoothly. They told a story, of how it had learned to forgive when others were right.
Luna smiled. Another image came by, but this time of the world as a whole. There were countless amounts of these creatures, all of them doing something different. Some killing, others healing, and all was chaos. But there was an underlying theme to it all, a slow beating of a hidden symphony. In all these creatures’ discourse, they were all working in harmony, be it for better or for worse.
The Princess felt it best not to judge. They had many beautiful things, and many terrible things. There was a pair of great buildings, composed of metal and glass, obviously under construction. They dwarfed the rest, and yet continued to grow. There were villages of the bipeds of brown and black skin, with many sick, while others robed in white appeared to administer aid.
Her gaze returned to the creature with the cube. The being lifted its head, stared into Luna’s eyes, and smiled gently. Then it turned back to the glowing box, before settling down to write once more.
Luna returned from the dreamscape, entering the waking world once more.
“How did it go, Lulu? Did you find anything?” Her sister said, as she gazed worryingly at her sibling.
And Luna told her. Luna told her of the strange creatures she discovered. She spoke of all the things the beings did, and were doing. Celestia’s eyes turned hard at some parts, then softened at others. And when Luna finished, she simply sighed.
“Lulu, these beings you speak of sound incredibly dangerous.”
Luna replied, “But-”
“Let me finish. They also sound like they have accomplished many incredible things as well. For now, let us leave them be.” Celestia ended, to which Luna sighed in relief.
“Do you think they will find us someday, Celly?” Luna asked, her eyes meeting those of her sister.
“Maybe one day. For now, they will grow in their own time.
“And then maybe we can meet them.”
