Chapters The Rainbow Dash Challenge
Using her fusha colored magic, Star gazer turned the page of her "Magic Spells Vollume 3". The sun shone down through a cloudless sky, warming up the bright summer day. The shade from the tree behind her bench offered a cool touch, but did not offer much block from the sun in her eyes.
The park was calm and quiet as the few ponies that were there were all snoozing or quietly chatting with a friend.
Speaking of friends, Star looked up across the hill at the town clock. The big hand was almost to the twelve. It would only be a minute or two before it would strike 2:00. He was supposed to have shown up a half an hour ago. Sighing, she turned back to her book and began reading again.
A few minutes passed, the clock struck 2:00 and still no sign. Using her dark blue hoof, she swipped away a bit of sweat. It was getting really hot. If she didn't get any shade, she would have to move to another spot before she was fried!
She had barely wished for shade when she noticed a shadow had encase her. For a split second she wondered what it could be, before it dawnd on her.
" Hello Shadow Storm" She said in calm but friendly voice.
"Wh... wh... what? How did you did you know it was me. I was very, very quiet Star. Plus, you were reading that old book. Why don't you read the Daring Do series. They are a whole lot better than the Magic Spells Vollume 3. You read it like a thousand times!!" He yelled, flabbergasted.
Grabbing the book, he took off with it, but didn't get far. Not more than three feet, and he was stopped dead in flight. Looking behind him, he saw his tail being magically held back.
"Hey let me go! What do you think your doing?!!" He yelled.
"Give me back my book and I'll set you free." She said firmly.
Seeing as struggleing was unfruitful, he relucntelty handed her it back. Suddnely, he landed flat on his face as her magic disperssed.
Walking back to her bench, she said, " Not cool shadow."
"You kidding me, it was it least 20% cool!" He argued.
"Really? Again with the Rainbow Dash catch phrases. Don't you think that's a little old school?" She said with one eyebrow raised.
"Rainbow is anything but old school. She's the coolest thing there is. They even have a fan club after her! A FAN CLUB. No one has a fan club for your mentor, Twilight sparkle," he teased
Her expression didn't budge as she said, " I don't need or want a fan club for Twilight. Having a fan club doesn't make one "cool". She's already "cool" without one."
"Yeah..well. She's still the best, just like me." He stopped in mid flight and struck what he called the "Awesome pose".
"You?" she huffed, " You think you're the best?"
"Of course. Rainbow's the best and I'm like her, so I'm the best there is!" he said with pride in his tone.
"Prove it."
"What!" He gasped.
"Prove you're the best there is. If you are just like Rainbow Dash, then you are "the best"." She said.
"How am I supposed to do that?" he asked.
"I can arrange a serious of tests that will prove of you are like Rainbow Dash or not."
He thought a moment or two before replying, " Hmm...okay. Deal. But...I have another idea. Why don't we raise the stakes? I propose a bet. If I win you have to call your self " Moonlight the Egg head"."
"And if I win, you have to sit through 3 hours of Twilights lecture on my book,"she said with a sly grin.
He winced. It was a hard punishment, but he was sure he would win and shook hooves with her.
"Let the games begin." She said.
The Rainbow Dash Challenge
"You are sooo going to lose Star," Shadow said in a devious tone as if he could foretell the future. He knew that star was so going to lose. She had her Twilight EGG HEAD sparkle, but she could never be as awesome as Rainbow Dash.
"So what's the first challenge you have that I can prove my AWSOMENESS!" Shadow says as he puts on some really cool looking sunglasses.
*Ten minutes later*
Shadow chuckled to himself saying, "are you serious? This is the first challenge?" He pointed his hoof to the checklist she was holding. It had a list of various activities. The first one was Cloud busting.
"You could at least come up with some better challenges than this. Even a young Pegasus colt could do this,"he chuckled
"Oh you will find it more difficult than you think it is Shadow. Not only do you have to bust clouds, but you have to do it in 10...seconds....flat. Just like RD can. When you finish you have to clear that apple tree." She pointed to a large apple tree across the clearing.
"Okay. Now that is more like it!"he said, grinning evilly as if he knew he was going to win.
Looking up, he saw the sky was mostly clear, save for a section about a mile long. It looked as if Star had some clouds just thrown out there in the open for him to bust. They were white and about the size of two apple carts. The ones he usually busted were about the size of one cart, but he was sure they would still be sinch. Flying up, he landed on a long, thin cloud. Two specially made poles with a banner that said "START" were placed in the cloud.
In a burst of bright light, Star teleported herself there using the familiar cloud spell. She held the checkard flag that would be used along with a sports watch. Shadow preformed a few warm up stretches before bending his knees in the position he needed for a good take off.
"Ready....."
"Set....."
"Gooooo.....!"
Her blue and purple stripped mane were blown across her face as he sped by on wings of lighnting speed.
"Pomf."
"Pomf."
"Pomf."
"Pomf.""Pomf.""Pomf.""Pomf."
"Pomf."
Each cloud was destroyed as fast as his hooves could fly. He thought he wouldn't break a sweat doing it, but the clouds proved tougher than they looked. He was almost exhausted by the tenth cloud. 5 Seconds had passed and only have of the clouds had dissapppeared. He was not only sweating from exhaustion, but...though he would never admit it....he was nervous he couldn't do it. That didn't stop him from trying to go faster. He kicked as fast as his hooves would go, he even flew through the clouds at times. Though that techunique was faster, it also blurried his vision, causing a minor setback in direction.

He didn't have time to take it carefully. Putting in full throtel, he made a bee line for the clouds. He couldn't see, but it didn't matter. He need to bust before time was up. As the second 9 approached he flew with all his might. If he had been a bit higher and were flying straight down, he could of possibly caused a Sonic Rainboom!
"Pomf."....8.8 secs....."Pomf."....8.9......"Pomf.".....9.0....."Pomf."....9.1....."Pomf.""Pomf.""Pomf.""Pomf.""Pomf."!
One by one he went through until...he saw it. Clear blue sky! He had done it. All the clouds were gone. He was about to stop and spend his few fleets seconds on the apple tree, but it wasn't neccasry. He was already heading straight for it! He tried to stop, but was unable. As he got closer, he braced himself for the impact.
Crash!
The tree shook at the wait of the unwelcome intuder. After some tumbling, he manged to fall out of the tree....along with all the apples!
"And....Time!" Star yelled. Using her maigic, she teleported to her ingured friends side. He had a few brusis and his sweat poured down his panting face.
"He....pant*....how.....pant*...did.....I....pant*...do?" he gasped.
Giving an irritated sigh, she should him the watch.

"Yes!" he yelled victouresly as he tried to stand.
"I did it!"
"Yeah, well that was round one. Now you only have to complete 19 more rounds." she said.
"nine....nineteen more rounds?" He said before dropping to the ground in a faint.
The Rainbow Dash Challenge
As Shadow is laying in the grass, Star brought him some water to drink for after all of his hard work. She let him rest for about ten minutes as caught his breath. They rested for a bit they began to talk about high school.
Both had went to ponyville elementary as foals, but when Shadow's parents moved to fillydelphia they both had different school's to go to. It was a hard move for shadow because, though he would never EVER admit it, he had a crush on Star. He never said or hinted anything about it, because he never knew how Star felt about him.
She was always nice, sometimes sarcastic. He was never mean and had a very deep compassion for everyone. If he thought he embodied the element of loyalty, he was sure she was ( besides magic) the element of Generosity.
She always put up with his antics, no matter how hard he pressed. He always admired her patience with him. They were in most ways opposites. He was loud and she was calm, and while he liked to spend his time moving and flying, a book and a cushion was what she loved. On occasion, she would get a bit mischievous and play some pranks with him, often on classmates. His dream, like many others, was to join the wonderbolts, while hers was to conquer some of the hard spells star swirl left behind.
She already had a great start as she was the student of Twilight. Instead of this offending him, it only made him prouder. Though he often teased her, it was a cover up for his affection.
When Shadow moved, he met many more mares, but he never really liked any of them as much as he did Star. When summer break arrived, he jumped at the chance to see her. He arranged to stay with some relatives in ponyville. That week, when he was in town, he passed her by in the market place. They exchanged a few words and arranged to meet at the park the next day. He intended on a nice chat and perhaps go out for Ice cream, but the contest they were doing was a lot more interesting. It also gave him a chance to see her more!
Once he had gain his strength back he said to Star,"Okay Star, so what's the next challenge for me to beat with my coolness " He stroke his pose while wearing red sunglasses to represent the redness of his fur which luckily hid the small blush.
"the next challenge is for you to sing a duet with fluttershy and rarity on things that you three do not have in common" She said grinning. She knew that at the mention of this he would complain. He never did like to sing.
To her surprise he doesn't and he just accepts it. Without another words he heads down to the open theater where fluttershy and Rarity are supposed to meet him.
They were both walking first to find Rarity, they started talking about what had changed since he had moved. The first was the return of Nightmare Moon, the second was
the defeat of Discord. Although he had heard about them he never knew that they were beaten right here in ponyville.
"Wow, so they actually did exist. I just thought they were stories. Though...it would explain those two times when it was night instead of day and the sky had cotton candy clouds," he said.
"Just cotton candy clouds?" she asked.
"Yep."
"Well, I guess Discord didn't care much for fillydelphia much. He sure did make it chaotic here."
"That make sense. So....how did twilight pick you as her student?" he asked, changing the subject.
"Well, after I couldn't afford to be trained at Celestia's school for gifted unicorns, I went to the library. There,I asked Twilight to teach me. She found my magic to be rather powerful. Perhaps not as good as hers, but she said she saw a lot of potential. So, she picked me and the rest as they say is history," She finished with a smile
When shadow saw the smile his heart fluttered a bit.
With that they arrived at Rarity's boutique. They headed in and heard an elegant voice say, "Welcome to the Carousel Boutique where everything is sheik and magnetic.”
“Hey Rarity! this is Shadow and we are having a contest,”Star said.
“What is it pray tell?”
“Shadow here is proving if he has what it takes to be like Rainbow Dash. One of the rounds is where you come in. If you please, would you make a old fashioned outfit for my friend here?”
“Of course, I always had a style I wanted to try out! Come dear, we will get you suited up in a jiffy!”
She grabbed him suddenly and placed him on a sort of runway. Gathering fabric with her magic, she found the patterned she wanted and measured him. A snip here and there. A needle and thread sewed the pieces. The sewing machine would have been faster, but it looked better hoof sewn.
Of course that meant Shadow has to sit there longer while his suit was being made. It was fine the first few minute. “This is easy!” He thought.
He changed his mind as soon as ten minutes had slowly crawled by. His back started to ache and he wanted to scratch under his left wing. But he had to stay still...perfectly still.
He could do it, if Rainbow could he could.
Just...sit….STILL.
-One hour later-
“Shadow!!!”
“HUh!!!! Wat- what is it!” he started. During his makeover, the stillness had caused him to doze off.
“Morning sleepy head. Would you like to see your new look?”
She levitated a mirror over.
His jaw fell as he saw his reflection. He had on a powdered wig, the top hat stood straight. I stiff collar coat and a neat pair of horse shoes were on him. He was ready to rip it off, but changed his mind. Instead, he held his head high and pranced around the room.
He struck a proud pose and said “What do you think star? I win again?”
“Yes, I suppose you do.”
“This isn’t so bad on me. I think it brings out my eyes. What do you think star?”
“um- oh yes, very nice” She stammered, blushing.
“Alright then! onward to the next challenge,” he yelled. After thanking Rarity they headed out the door to see what was next on the Rainbow Dash Challenge.
