Chapter one: finding my destiny
Dear diary,
It has been 12 years since Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle, and I formed the Cutie Mark Crusaders. 8 years since Sweetie got hers in singing, 7 years and 9 months since Apple Bloom got hers in construction, and a month after that Babs got hers in police work or acting (It's a brown droplet with two split cream ones on each side, I have no idea what it means.)
And I still haven't gotten mine.
12 years since Rainbow Dash took me under her wing to teach me to fly... and I can barely get off the ground.
All of my friends have made something of themselves, yet I'm still a blank flank.
Scootaloo looks up from her journal and to the night sky, the moon's glow like a spotlight on her diminutive wings and barren flanks.
Is this what my life has become? Comparing myself to all my friends?
I guess it's the only thing I can do properly.
What point is there in my life? I haven't accomplished anything, I still ride around on a scooter to get around, and I'm writing all my thoughts in a diary like some schoolfilly (No offense).
I guess I'm just a failure.
Scootaloo sighs and once again looks out into the night "Maybe I'll stumble upon something in a dream" She closes her eyes and inhales, clapping her hooves three times before exhaling, an old ritual she read about when she went to the Canterlot archives to try and get a rare book cutie mark "Princess Luna, I don't know if you ever hear me when I ask for assistance, but I will ask for your guidance either in waking life or sleeping. Please guide me to my one true purpose."
Opening her eyes, she looks around, hoping that the midnight alicorn had appeared in her room, but there was nopony there but her.
"I guess it'll be sleeping then" once again she closed her eyes, drifting off to sleep.
On a darkened balcony, Luna looks up from a book full of ancient spells, the same book that Scootaloo had read years ago "Once again she calls for my guidance, and once again I must ignore her. Scrying into the future of another or even oneself is taboo... but it hurts my heart and soul to deny her assistance..." the princess of the night sighs, her deep azure eyes welling with sadness and empathy "She is so despondent and forlorn... I cannot help but see myself in her..." Luna turns another page in her book when a symbol catches her eye
A solid blue star.
"I don't remember seeing this mark in here..." glancing at the entry next to it, Luna gasps "'Premonitionary Dream Manipulation?' What is this?"
Premonitionary Dream Manipulation.
A somewhat complex spell to allow a sleeping subject to view their future in a dream. Whether or not the subject remembers the premonition is an uncontrollable variable. First cast a dream walking spell on yourself and enter the subject's dream. Then cast a basic ether manipulation charm and focus your dream self's form into the ether's center, becoming a bridge to link the dream and ether. The future that they desire to see will convert all their thoughts into creating a representation of the future event or condition. Do not use on a catatonic subject or they may die as a result of psychic overload.
Luna blinks "I... this is what I needed but... I've read this book before and this has never been in it."
She lifts the book from the stand she had it on and gallops to her sister's chambers.
"Mmmnn... you're a tasty fruit... everyone mmmph... love you blurburry Twi..." Celestia mutters in her sleep, before a hoof prods her cheek "Mmmph? Luna? Is it time to raise the sun already?"
Luna shakes her head and drops the book on her sister's chest "I was reading The Noctomancer's Instruction manual for proper night magic and found this mark on a page I've never seen before."
Celestia pushes the heavy tome off her chest, blinking away sleep "Okay... what symb- oh... are you sure you didn't put that in there? I never touvched it and it was kept in the lunar archives while you were gone."
Luna levitates the book off her sister's bed " I am sure. This book keeps a record of whoever reads it and besides my own, there is only one and I watched her read it myself... one other question before I go sister, is scrying still taboo?"
Celestia nods "Yes, and for the foreseeable future, it will stay that way."
Sighing, Luna returns to her room as her sister falls back into the cushiony depths of her bed, muttering about fruits
Opening the book and clearing her mind, Luna repeats the instructions in her head until everything fades away, leaving nothing but her and an endless, black expanse.
"Show me your splendor" she whispers, the blackness starts to glitter like the night sky, each star a sleeping mind.
A dim globe floats towards her, an orange tinge radiating from it "Hello Scootaloo... I shall grant you your wish" and with those words, she is enveloped by the light of the globe.
