The Painful Truth

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Twilight quietly made her way down the stairs to the bottom floor before heading into the kitchen. Grabbing a knife from one of the drawers, she headed over to the basement door. Shoving the knife in between the door and the door frame. Using the blade, she managed to push the bolt in and the door swung open lightly. Pushing it open the rest of the way, she stepped through. There were stairs leading down on the right. Turning, she closed the door and headed down to the basement.

Getting to the bottom of the stairs, Twilight looked around, knife still in hand. Her eyes fell on the desk at the back-right corner. Walking over to it, her heart rate increased out of fear of what she would find. Sitting down in the chair, she opened one of the drawers to find file folders.

Pulling them out, she set them on top of the desk. Opening the top one, she saw a picture of the stallion at the bar. Moving it aside, she saw a list the pink mare had made, keeping track of the stallion's likes and dislikes. Moving it atop the picture, she saw another list. This one made her gasp. It listed various methods of ways to kill him. One was circled. The method used to kill him, with remove fingers underlined.

Closing the folder, she moved it aside and opened the next one. This one had a picture of the mare who had her throat stabbed. Tears filling her eyes, Twilight quickly got up from the chair. Turning around, she saw the fridge. Taking a deep breath, she walked over to it and opened the freezer section on top. Putting a hand over her mouth, she saw a jar with severed frozen fingers.

She then realized all her fears were true. All the evidence led to Pinkie for a reason. She was the killer. Taking a few wobbly steps back, Twilight felt like her legs were about to give out. Tears streaming over her cheeks, she dropped to her knees. Not sure what to do or say, she simply collapsed. Laying on her side, she stared straight ahead, on the verge of hyperventilating.

As she lay there, she thought back to when she first met the pink mare. The long hair and her forwardness had stayed in her mind ever since. Whenever they were close, the unicorn's heart would beat faster with excitement. After being a shut-in for years, finally meeting someone that gave her reason to get out there filled her with a happiness she never felt before.

Earlier, when they showered together, and before when they felt each other's body, Twilight knew this mare was the one for her. This was only made clearer when the pink mare had asked her if she wanted to be a family with her and Scootaloo. Twilight's dreams were coming true; an amazing partner and a wonderful daughter.

But, now all of that was over. The pink mare was a psychotic killer and the one Twilight was sent to discover. Now, she had to do her job and report to the princess. But, she knew if she did, she'd never be able to be with her. She might even be executed for her crimes.

With all these thoughts running through her head, Twilight's eyes were now a flood of tears. Her breathing increased in volume and intensity before she let out a whimper. Lip trembling, she sniffled and hugged her knees to her chest. After a couple minutes of sobbing, she let out a gasp. If Pinkie woke up and found her here, she'd be in deep trouble.

Struggling to stand up, she crawled over to the desk and used it to get to her feet. Wiping her eyes, she kept holding the desk until her legs became less wobbly. She was about to let go when she heard something that made her heart skip a beat.

"Hey, Twilight..." Pinkamena said as she stood at the bottom of the stairs.

"P-Pinkie?" Twilight whimpered, turning around to face her. Her eyes fell on the knife in the pink mare's hand.

"How'd you do it?" Pinkie asked, tapping the flat part of the knife's blade against her leg repeatedly. "The tea..."

"I-I figured you'd... put something in it..." Twilight explained. "If you were the killer, that is... I also know how smart you are, and... figured you'd be listening when you left... so I simply turned the cups... without switching them..."

Pinkie smirked deviously, letting out an impressed scoff. "And, I drugged myself... Not bad..." She then held out the knife, pointing it at the unicorn with the flat side up. "What about the sleeping pill you asked for? I seem to remember sticking my tongue in your mouth..."

"I kept it under my tongue as far back as possible... and then I spit it into my hand when we pulled the covers up."

Pinkamena smiled widely and lowered the knife. "Your cleverness rivals that of my own, Twilight."

"How could you?!" Twilight suddenly blurted out.

The pink mare tilted her head as her smile faded. "Do... what?"

"Kill!" Twilight yelled, tears streaming down her face again. "I wanted to be with you, Pinkie! You and Scootaloo! Like a family! But, you ruined it! Now, I have to..." She then let out a gasp as she stumbled backwards and dropped into the chair. "You... You used me, didn't you?"

Pinkamena seemed taken aback as she let out a silent gasp. "What?"

"You used me!" Twilight cried out. "You knew I was tracking the killer so you made me like you! In case I found out!"

"Don't you think if I wanted you dead... you'd be dead?" Pinkie asked, holding up her knife. "Not sure if you've noticed, but killing's what I do..."

"No..." Twi said, shaking her head as she slowly got to her feet. "You... You're maintaining your cover. The others know about us... If I disappeared, they'd come asking you... And, you don't want that... Let alone having Celestia show up here..."

Pinkamena let out a soft chuckle and leaned against the railing on the stairs. "Look at you... figuring things out... Cute..."

"Oh, stop that, already!" Twilight snapped back. "Cut that cutesy I like you and I think you're adorable crap! It's all bullshit!"

Pinkie's smile faded again as she eyed the floor. "Bullshit... Is that what you think it was?"

"No, I know it..." the unicorn said, wiping tears from her eyes. "Besides, what kind of messed up pony murders someone, checks in on their kid, and then climbs back into bed with the one they supposedly love? How could you do that?!"

"Its easy for me..." Pinkie replied, tapping the knife against her leg again.

"Easy for you..." Twilight scoffed. "Like that makes it okay..." Her eyes went to the knife again. "I bet, right now, you're trying to figure out how to get rid of me, right? Because, I'm not making it out of this basement, am I?"

Pinkamena hesitated for a moment, before sitting down on the bottom step of the ladder. "There are many ways I could kill you... Most of which, I don't even need my knife..."

"By the way, why do you kill?" Asked Twilight, her eyes red from crying and her face wet with tears.

A wide smile spread across the earth pony's face. "It makes me feel powerful... And, I like feeling in charge. Because, I'm the one that gets to decide who lives and who dies. And, when I cut that life out of them... and their blood washes over me... I get a rush that can't be described with pre-existing words..." She then eyed Twilight. "And, their screaming... It tells me that they know who's in charge."

Twilight couldn't believe what she was hearing. The mare she loved really was insane. "Is that why you put up with me? Not just because I'm the one tracking you down, but also because you find me weak?"

The pink mare shook her head slowly. "Mmm... I don't find you weak... but, I love dominating you... And, I did get a kick out of seeing you try and act in charge..."

"So, that was all bullshit, too?!" Twilight yelled. "The whole you want a mare who can handle herself crap?!"

"Oh, I like a mare who can handle herself... but, not too much..." Pinkie explained. "And, I don't wanna date a pussy..."

"So, that's how a crazy pony thinks..." Twilight snapped, before taking a step towards her. "Tomorrow, I'm telling the others..." she said, before making her way towards the stairs.

Pinkamena stood up and blocked her path, the hand that held the knife resting on the railing. When Twilight stepped up to her, the two locked eyes.

"Either let me go... or kill me..." Twilight said, lips trembling as she kept staring into the pink mare's blue eyes.

Pinkie hesitated in thought, seemingly admiring Twilight's bravery. Soon, she raised her knife and held the tip against Twilight's neck. The unicorn didn't move away or try and fight back. She just stood there, staring into the pink mare's eyes. It was like she had nothing left to lose anymore.

Letting out a sigh, the pink mare took her knife away and stepped aside. After taking a moment to realize she was still alive, Twilight pushed past her and headed up the stairs. As she left, Pinkamena dropped to her knees, the knife falling from her hand. A few tears fell from her eyes before she covered them with her hands and hung her head.

Twilight burst into her bedroom and slammed the door shut. Leaning back against the door, she slid to the floor and started crying. Unbeknownst to her, Pinkamena entered the library and began heading up the stairs, holding her knife firmly in her hand. When she got to Twilight's room, she could hear the crying. After standing outside her door for a few minutes listening, she sat down and leaned against the wall next to the door.

Soon, Twilight got off the floor and made her way over to her bed. Stripping naked, she threw her clothes in a pile and climbed in. Due to her current mental state, she only pulled the covers up partially before resting her head on the pillow. She then sobbed even more, clutching the pillow tightly and burying her face in it.

Pinkamena simply sat outside the bedroom, listening to the crying. A couple hours passed when the crying had completely stopped. After waiting a little longer, Pinkie got up and opened the door. The purple mare was asleep in her bed. Slowly approaching it, Pinkie kept a firm grip of her knife. When she got to the bed, she looked down at the sleeping unicorn. The covers were now a mess and only covered half her body.

Holding her knife up, Pinkie looked it over before setting it down on the bedside table. Leaning in, she slowly pulled the covers back up and gave the mare a kiss on the forehead. "It wasn't all bullshit..." she said quietly. "I really do care about you..."

Gently placing her hand on mare's cheek, she gave her forehead one last kiss before standing back up. After sticking around for a few seconds longer to watch the mare sleep, Pinkie picked up her knife and left.

Later...

Pinkamena finished tying the rope to the bedposts. "Stop... killing... Can you believe that?" She asked, the mare on the bed whimpering.

The ropes attached to the bedposts were tied to her wrists, keeping her arms out. Her ankles were attached to the posts at the end of the bed. She also had a rag in her mouth to keep her from her making noise.

"It's like she's asking me to be someone I'm not." Pinkie then placed her hands on the edge of the bed, looking down at the mare's body. "And, then she claims that I don't love her..." Reaching towards the bedside table, she picked up her knife. "That I've been using her..."

When the bound mare saw the knife, she began struggling to try and free herself.

"It's like all our time together meant nothing to her," Pinkie continued, placing the knife on the mare's belly. "All that time..." she growled, making the bound mare squeal and whine, eyes filling with tears. "And she still doesn't trust me!" She yelled, shoving the knife into the mare, making her eyes go wide. Pulling the knife out, Pinkamena let out a chuckle. "I mean, sure, I lied to her by not telling her I was a killer, but everything I felt when we were together was real!" She then stabbed the mare again. "I may have lied, but everything... I told her... was... the... truth!" She yelled, emphasizing each word by stabbing the mare.

Her breathing began to pick up before she just began to stab the mare's body repeatedly, over and over again. The mare was long dead by the time Pinkie was done. With the dead mare's belly now pretty much bloody mush, Pinkie fell backwards onto her butt, covered in blood.

Panting heavily, she wiped a tear away. "Fuck..." she sighed, leaning against the wall as she stared at the dead body.

Twilight awoke the next day with red eyes. Sitting up, she saw the sheets neatly pulled up all the way. Picking them out to throw them off, she noticed her bedroom door was open a crack. Having a feeling of who paid her a visit during the night, she let out a sigh and got out of bed. Sitting on the edge of her bed, she kept her head hung as she though back to last night. Closing her eyes, she slowly got up, trying to accept the fact that she was alone now.

After getting dressed, she left the library and headed back out into town, trying to find the others so she could tell them about Pinkie. Her path took her past Sugarcube Corner, which made her stop and look at the building. When she saw Scootaloo putting her helmet on, the two met eyes. Smiling, the filly waved to her. Twilight gave a light smile and waved weakly, before quickly turning and walking away. As she did, she sniffled and wiped her eyes.

When she was close to the market place, a stallion ran up to her. "Uh, Twilight?" He asked.

Twilight let out a soft gasp before nodding. "Mmm... What is it?"

"It's another murder," the stallion said, a sad expression on his face. "O-Over there..." he said, pointing.

Twilight shuddered and bit her lip, nodding. Hesitantly heading in the direction he pointed, she eventually found the house with a guard posted at the door. When he saw her approaching, he stepped aside.

Stepping up to the door, Twilight hesitated before looking at the guard. "Has Night Breeze been able to sleep yet?"

The guard eyed her and nodded. "Last I saw her, she was still asleep."

The unicorn smiled lightly before opening the door. "Good..."

She then entered the house and closed the door. The area looked clean. She knew she should probably start with the bedroom. Heading up the nearby staircase, she found herself in a hall. Slowly moving forward, she eyed the doors until she found one partially open. Stepping up to it, she pushed it open and covered her mouth. On the bed was the body of a mare, her stomach a bloody pile of mush, like it had been stabbed many times over.

Twilight backed against the wall and slid to the floor, eyes filling with tears. "Oh, Pinkie..." she whimpered, pulling her knees up to her chest and hugging them, sobbing loudly.
