Oh yeah...that ending so sudden and that was intentional so I want all of you to know that it was supposed to be sudden sort of when you get a bacon burger and they make the bacon right in front of you to get you more hungry. And his name is Carthage Robert Schrodinger but he will be referred to as Schrodinger or Cat.
And if you please give me advice and I will do my best to be the writer I can be, and don't forget to fave and LIKE.
Warding Bastion out for now.
Exploding beginnings
As he walked on the sidewalk with his head hung low, putting in his headset he listened to an upbeat song by his favorite band, his day was surprisingly good for summer school. His smile played at his cheeks as he walked with a skip in his step, “Hey!” said a small voice behind him. He turned to see a classmate sprinting toward him, “You want to hang out? Ya know no one should spend their birthday alone dude.” The classmate was about his height (which was a miracle) and looked as though he had to run quite a bit to reach him.
“Um, I may have to check with my parents first but where can I meet if I can go?” he said with a false tone in his voice.
“We could go out and just terrorize the town for all I care,” he said with a smile spreading across his face.
“Well how about I call you and then we can see where to go because my parents like to surprise me with things so I may already have plans,” he said with a half truth statement.
“Yeah here,” the boy handed him a piece of paper with a cell phone number written in pink ink.
“Um dude,” he gave a questioning look to the classmate.
“Its not mine its the girl from the back of the room she asked me to give you it,” the classmate leaned in close to the boy. “I think she likes you Cat, I mean, Schrodinger,” the classmate knew his nickname but then corrected it.
He received it because when he was about thirteen he was the only student that read Alice in Wonderland and started to smile similar to the Cheshire Cat. This caused everyone to stop and stare at him for he rarely smiled; phones were pulled out by the students and teachers alike to take a picture of this. That and whenever there is an activity dealing with reflexes he would demonstrate his catlike reflexes to both catch whatever it was and launch it back with the exact force it was thrown with. Thus the name was given to him for that reason, “Um well you can tell her that I have received it and I may call her when I have some free time.”
“All right,” the classmate started to jog backward, “see ya tomorrow Schro.” He turned and left, the piece of paper flapped in the wind and then was discarded into his pocket.
A swift walk later and he reached home; he checked for mail, unlocked the door and stepped in. No one greeted him, no one was there, he sighed. “Happy Birthday to me then,” he walked to the kitchen and sat at the table and sat down. He looked out the window and then to the clock, “five, four, three, two, one.” The temperature suddenly decreased from its high of ninety to the low of thirty degrees, like clockwork the snow began to descend and covered the area in a thin sheet of white.
He turned on the television and was surprised none of the weather stations played the whole, unexplainable weather phenomenon, snow in summer and then sun is still out. “I give it about five minutes,” he said under his breath then suddenly the screen changed from the public broadcasting to the weather channel. “Just like clockwork,” he said as he licked one of his fangs, “I’m hungry now.” He got up and went to the kitchen and saw a note on the oven.
“Dear son, your dad and I have gone out to pick a few things up for your birthday and will not be back until sundown, that and I need to pick a few things up from the lab to bring home, love you MOM.”
He flipped the back of the note of which said, “Preheat oven for pizza if you will please, and we will have company.” He smiled today seventeen years ago he was born, and nothing could take that away. He went to the oven and set it to 400 degrees and waited, he looked at his long fingers and arms as he licked at his fangs. People had always thought him of a monster of even a ‘vampire’ whatever that was. He liked the way he looked, his long brown and red hair, his slight tan skin, his dark eyes.
Now that he thought about it, it did make sense if people find his appearance frightening. He did look like a vampire of what he thought was a vampire not that Twilight bullshit. His fangs were part of him, he had to wear braces for a few years and still they didn't work on him. He went into the bathroom to take a shower but when he turned on the faucet he heard the door open and close and the tell tale sign of his mom.
“It’s snowing, I guess its your birthday today buddy,” he heard his mother’s voice and rushed to the door to help.
“Need any help?” he tried to relieve of her groceries but she quickly pulled away.
“Yeah and tell your dad that he needs to retake driver’s ed. he drifted on the snow seven times and we were going twenty,” she smiled. “Happy birthday son,” she went to the kitchen and set the groceries on the table.
He went to the car outside in the new snow covered front yard, “Dad need help?”
“No thanks I got it,” said two voices at once. He knew those voices, “So how's our little brother on his big one seven?”
“Cody, Samuel when did you get back from training?” he quickly hugged his brothers.
“Just this morning, wanted to see my little bro on his birthday,” said Samuel as he lifted Schrodinger off the ground and hugged him. “Man you are getting big for a teenager.”
“Hey don't let me out of a group hug,” said Cody as he rushed at the two but fell on the wet snow landing on his backside. “ahhhh,” he grunted as he lifted himself off of the ground.
Samuel dropped Schrodinger on the ground, “dude you okay?”
“Yeah how is two tone doing?”
Schrodinger deadpanned, “you know I hate that name Sammy.” He quickly looked up at the curtain of brown and red hair. His hair of brown and red that was separated from each other on either side of his head now began to bristle into ‘ears’ as many say. And that is what set every story of him being strange in school started with him being mad and two giant ‘ears’ appearing, his entire being was from some kind of fictional story of strange anime.
“Just a joke dude,” Samuel said in a slight chuckle.
“Cat, phone for you!” said their mother from the front door.
“Be right there, you guys okay with the groceries?” he said turning to his brothers.
“Dude we are fine, we didn’t go to military training for shits and giggles,” said Cody in a manner as though he was offended.
“And no one should have to work on their birthday, even go to school,” Samuel nodded at Cody’s statement. “Go someone wants to talk to you on the phone,” he moved his head at the house and smiled.
“Okay if you say so Private Samuel,” Schrodinger made a mock salute and ran to the door where his mother was standing. “Who is it?”
“They say they want the cat, I don’t know who they are trying to get a hold of but I have an idea, did you start a street gang while at school?” she smiled as she handed him the phone and moved to let him inside, “SHE SOUNDS NICE.” His mom yelled from the door as he went to the kitchen.
“Who is this?” he asked as he shooed his father away from the oven. He just lifted his hands and slowly walked away while staring at him in mock fear.
“Hey this is Janice from fifth hour physics, and well if you don't mind….I would like to invite you to a party at my house.” He was shocked; he had no idea who this was.
“Um I may have to check with my parents about it because they have plans,” ‘slowly crush her dreams, but not too slowly could be a trap,’ he thought as he smiled.
“Oh okay well if you are going then my address is,” his brothers shouts diverted him from her address and sent him flying to the front door. “What was that?”
“Im sorry but I have to go, I will call you later I swear,” he said in a rush of words.
“But you don't even know my,” he hung up, girls can wait.
He appeared in the front yard and saw something that never happens with snow, a snowball fight. Cody had snow in his hair and was slouched over pretending to be dying, “I will be avenged.” He sank to his knees and fell onto his face, Schrodinger rushed over and slid to his fallen brother.
“Brother, Brother are you okay,” he said in his best medieval voice every. “HAST THOU BEEN ASSAULTED BY THE FROZEN WRATH OF PRINCE SAMUEL OF THE HOUSE SCHRODINGER,” he said using their last name for the house.
“Carthage Schrodinger, your own blood has defiled the trust of each other,” he paused and then gave an evil grin. “Do you think I would not betray that trust as well,” he rolled out of Schrodinger’s arms and a pile of snow landed onto him from above.
“ahhhhhh, you will pay for that,” he said as he jumped out of the snow and crouched on his hands and feet and assumed a stance they all knew too well. No one moved as it was a sure sign of doom; Cody blinked an eye and it began. Schrodinger surged at him with snow trailing in his wake and tackled him scooping up two giant snow balls and slowly bringing them down onto his brother’s crossed arms.
“Avast I hath been stricken from like’s book of innocents,” said Cody as he ‘fainted.’
“Okay little hellions time to get inside you will freeze to death,” said their mother as she watched them from the front door with a giant grin on her face.
“Okay,” the brothers all said in unison.
They went inside and sat on the couch Samuel, “that was fun.” Samuel wandered into the kitchen, “Hey bro why is the oven on?”
“You guys didn't ask me to preheat,” Schrodinger said with a question look on his face as he got up to see if Samuel was joking with him.
“Better turn it off before something explodes,” said Samuel as he plopped onto the couch.
“What was that about not doing anything on your birthday?” said Schrodinger as he headed toward the oven. The phone rang twice and was picked up by his mother, he could heard her greet the person and then stop and drop the phone.
“CARTHAGE GET AWAY FROM THE OVEN NOW!” He paused and then turned to see it held a fiery ball of white and red flames, his eyes were wide when he felt the heat incinerate him and the entire kitchen in one fell blast.
He shot up gasping for air, “MOM, DAD, CODY, SAMUEL!” He blinked a few times and finally getting back to reality, but where was he. He looked around to see he was in an old stone room that could have belonged to an ancient castle. Its ceiling was high, the tapestries once beautiful now in ruin, overgrowth covered the walls, and silence was everywhere.
But a strong voice drove the stillness away, “MONSTER!” said a voice from the overgrowth, it sounded feminine and angry. “YOU HELPED MY SISTER DO THIS DIDN'T YOU....CREATURE, SHOW YOURSELF!” There was a rustle from the overgrown trees and a gasp.
“Is anyone there?” he asked the strange voice.
“I AM A PRINCESS OF THE SUN I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO ANSWER THAT QUESTION,” there was a blast of light and the trees were gone. There stood a seven foot tall equine, it had two wings and a horn; but the most striking thing about it was its color. It was a pure and unadulterated white, so soft looking and brilliant as the sun. He looked at its face and was stricken with fear, it was contorted into a snare, it was mad or rather she was mad. The room became very dark and the overgrowth suddenly started to move and entrap the white winged unicorn. “MONSTER WHAT HAVE YOU DONE NOW!”
“I didn't do anything I just got here for Christ’s sake,” he snapped back at the princess. “And stop calling me a monster; I am a human being just like…” He stopped, she wasn't human but she talked like one. “Uh, sorry to ask but what are you?”
She was quiet for a moment after the overgrowth took her into its hold, “I AM A PRINCESS OF THE SUN AND ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW IS THAT YOU WILL BE PUNISHED FOR AIDING MY SISTER IN HER RETURN.”
“What sister I have no idea who you are talking about,” he said while pinching the bridge of his nose. He smiled, revealing his fangs, “and if I were a monster.” He widened his eyes and tried to make himself more frightening, which was easy for she stared back at him with widening eyes. “Wouldn't I have done something to you by now, so stop it now.”
She was silent for a moment; those teeth could tear her to shreds, but could also make her…, “You have a valid point.” She looked at him again but this time with hysteria out of her mind, he did look like a beast but the way he held himself was all wrong for one. He held himself with intelligence and noble, “I may have had a bad day but I am still not convinced with the clothing you have.”
He stopped and looked about himself, he still had his white dress shirt and red tie, his black slacks, and his leather work boots; but something was off. His hair was longer and he had more weight in his pockets, the coat he wore was something new. It was long as its coat tails touched the backs of his knees, and was evenly divided into black and red. Its hood was similar that it was split the same but the colors were reversed.
The coat screamed his family; he searched through its pockets and found a burned photo of him and his family in an amusement park. He was so excited to go on the Ferris wheel and his brothers were smiling. His smile was great and his fangs were noted to stick out by now, “you have fangs why is that?” she asked.
“I have a disorder, they won’t go away.” He was in a state of nostalgia, “I have proof I am not a monster.” He walked toward her and showed her the photo, “See now what kind of monster would want to go on a Ferris wheel.” He started to tear away at the overgrowth after he placed the picture in his pocket.
“Wanting? Oh I know a lot about that creature,” said a voice behind him. He slowly turned to see that another winged unicorn was in fact behind him by a few inches. She was in fact the exact opposite instead of white she was black with a mane that held countless stars and gases. “You have such a wonderful mane and a pair of eyes to match. But your presence is just...,” ‘she’ leaned in and inhaled. “Intoxicating,” she turned to the white one, “Remember what we used to do together sister, in secret.” She paused, “the way that we ‘bonded’ so long ago, I have truly missed that.” She turned toward Schrodinger and licked her lips slowly revealing her maw of razor sharp teeth, “I have fangs too and I know exactly what I want to tear into right now.”
“Ha ha lets not get any ideas here,” he said as he started to walk backwards but found the wall after a few steps.
“I have been alone for a thousand years, and my mouth waters for all the things I can eat again,” she gave him a sultry grin, “And I may just include dear sister into it as well.” She chuckled as she pressed her barrel against him, and started to lean in to his face. “I hope you are ready for it, because I will make you wish for more than just me…” She stopped and slowly licked and nipped at his neck. “Hmm, pure, it is so satisfying to corrupt something so pure and watch it beg for more.”
“Luna, I beg of you, stop this we were so close once,” begged the white one.
“All I remember is your bright sun blocking out my beautiful moon while all the subjects adored you,” she paused, “And I am no longer Luna, I am NIGHTMARE MOON!” She dropped Schrodinger and bolted toward her sister only to stop a few inches short of her target, “And when I destroy the elements I will come back for you Celestia, and I will make you pay for what you did to me.”
After she said that she turned into a ball of blue and silver gases and left the room, “Sister, why would we do this again?” Celestia wept, tears dripped and echoed off the cold stone walls. The overgrowth shock and broke as Schrodinger ripped it away with a piece of metal he had found. “What are you doing, I am just going to be in your way.”
“I am really sorry about your sister,” he grunted as a tree branch was being difficult. “But your subjects need you and I think you are saner than your sister at this point.” He grunted as he finally got the last branch to break and stepped back, “Now come on we need to get you out of here.”
