This is Not The End
Someday I'll see you...again...
Load Full StoryRainbow Dash paced around the empty waiting room in the hospital while her friends, Twilight, Applejack, Fluttershy, and Rarity sitting in the chairs. The room was fairly empty with only a nurse's desk, some waiting chairs, and some decorations keeping the big room from being completely empty. The walls were snow white and the floors polished white. The floor was polished enough to see ones reflection in it, much to Rarity's liking. Still they were all here for more pressing matters. The chairs were a dark navy blue with a large dark brown coffee table in the center of the room, stacked with magazines. Applejack shot Rainbow Dash a worried look. She had been pacing since they got here and Applejack was sure Dash was wearing out the floor where she was pacing.
"Dash give it a rest. Pacin' ain't gonna hurry the doc up." Applejack stated as Dash continued pacing. Dash stopped for a second as she passed the hallway her friend was down. Many doors decorated the long hallway and her friend was in one of the rooms. She sighed and wondered if everything was gonna be alright. She took a seat in one of the navy blue chairs and rubbed her hooves together in anticipation. They had been in the waiting room for hours on end. They head been there since before the sun had set and now the time was around midnight. Fluttershy had been crying since they got there, with Rarity comforting the yellow mare. Twilight was reading articles, Applejack was just sitting in one of the chairs, and Rainbow had been pacing the whole time. Dash looked over at Applejack and sighed.
"D-...do you think Pinkie will...be alright?" Dash asked cautiously. Applejack sighed and rubbed her face with her hooves. She looked forward and sighed again.
"Ah don't rightly know Dash..." the mare answered, bowing her head. Time seemed to slow, or rather, freeze as they sat in silence, waiting for news. Dash's ears perked up as the sound of hoofsteps clicking against the tile floor grew closer. All the mares looked down the hallway just in time to see the doctor and two nurses walk into the waiting room wearing sad expressions on their faces. Dash's ears slapped to her head as she rushed to the doctor. The other mares quickly got up and followed Dash. Soon they were all surrounding the doctor.
"So Doc? How is it..." Applejack asked first.
"Yeah is she gonna be fine?" Rainbow rushed her sentence, her voice noticeably showing that she was holding onto that small speck of hope. The doctor levitated his clipboard over to the desk in his light blue aura and removed his glasses from his eyes, placing them on the desk as well.
"I'm afraid I have no good news. Your friend has a virus the nurses nor I have ever heard of. It is slowly eating away at her life, leaving her only...about 30 minutes left to live." The doctor said a tone of sympathy in his voice. "You can however visit her. She is fully conscious and waiting for you." The doctor said before walking towards the desk. He turned around and nodded to each of them. "My sincerest apologies to you all. And the room number is 239." Dash's face almost instantly filled with rage.
"Are you bucking kidding me?!" Dash shouted at the doctor. "Your not even gonna try to save her?" Dash yelled as she flew over to the doctor. The doctor sighed.
"We did try Rainbow Dash. What do you think we were doing that whole time? We searched, but found no cure. I'm sorry." The doctor explained. Dash wasn't satisfied though.
"W-well keep looking! There has to be something!" Dash cried on the verge of tears.
"I'm sorry Rainbow Dash...there is no know cure for what she has...we don't even know what she has. I'm sorry..." The doctor said before turning to the nurse.
"C'mon now sugarcube, ya heard the doc...let's go ya'll." Applejack said, placing a steady hoof onto Dash's shoulder. The 5 mares turned to the hallway and begun there walk down it to Pinkie's room. They stopped at there destination. The light brown door that wore the numbers '239' on the front of it in gold print had a calming effect. They entered into the room, where Pinkie Pie was laying on a bed in the center of the room, with her eyes closed. The walls were a teal color and on the floor was a thin brown carpet. There were two chairs that sat next to the right side of the bed, and a small side table on the left side. The bed had purple sheets and Pinkie wore a light pale green robe. Pinkie also had an IV hooked up to her arm. The girls approached the bed and Rarity nudged Pinkie, causing her eyes to shoot open in shock before she saw her friends and relaxed. She gave a small smile and looked at all her friends standing to her right.
"Hey girls..." Pinkie said sadly, still lightly smiling.
"Hey..." Dash responded, her head hung low as she cursed to herself under her breath.
"Howdy sugarcube..."Applejack offered a weak smile as she spoke.
"Hello Darling..."Rarity said placing a hoof on Pinkies.
"Hey Pinkie..." Twilight spoke last. Fluttershy stood next to Rarity as she leaned her head on Rarity's shoulder. Fluttershy didn't say anything, but instead just stood there and cried quietly.
"So...did the doc tell you that I only have like...30 minutes left to live?" Pinkie asked her friends. They all nodded in response.
"Now it's only like 25..." Twilight stated. "So we each should get about five minuets." She added.
"So who's gonna go first?" Applejack asked looking at all her friends. After several moments, Fluttershy raised her hoof slowly.
"Um...that is if it's...not to much trouble..." Fluttershy quickly squeaked after she raised her hoof.
"Of course Fluttershy." Rarity said. "Come on girls, let us give them their space." Rarity said, turning to leave the room. The rest of the mares followed suit and left the room, leaving Fluttershy and Pinkie alone. Fluttershy looked over at Pinkie and almost instantly began crying. Fluttershy rushed over to Pinkie's side and rested her head on Pinkie's chest, sobbing heavily.
"Aww Flutters, don't be so sad...we all knew this day would come..." Pinkie tried her best to comfort the crying mare as she ran her hoof along her mane. Fluttershy continued to cry while Pinkie whispered things like, 'Shh it'll be alright...' or 'it's okay...' as she continued to pet her mane softly. Fluttershy finally looked up at Pinkie, tears streaming down her face. She only had about two or three minuets left.
"O-oh P-Pinkie..." Fluttershy began as she wiped her eyes with her hooves. "W-why did you h-have to g-g-go...I-I need...y-you..." Fluttershy rested her head on Pinkie once again as she continued to sob.
"I know Fluttershy...I'm sorry...but listen." Pinkie placed one of her hooves under Fluttershy's chin and lifted her head up to look at her. "I could think of no one I would want to take care of gummy, but you..." Pinkie weakly smiled and hugged Fluttershy in a tight embrace for several moments before Twilight opened the door, signaling their time was up. They broke their embrace and Fluttershy began to walk towards the door before she turned around and looked at Pinkie once more.
"I-I love you P-Pinkie...and I-I'll a-always m-miss you..." She said before walking out the door. Rarity walked in as Fluttershy walked out.
"Hey Rarebear..."Pinkie chuckled as Rarity made her way to Pinkie's bed. When Rarity arrived at the bed she sighed and hugged Pinkie.
"Oh Pinkie..."Rarity began as she broke the hug. "I don't rightly know what to say...you've been my friend for as long as I can remember." Rarity said.
"Hey do you remember when we rode that weird thingie all the way back from Appleoosa?" Pinkie asked as she smiled lightly. Rarity chuckled as she began to feel tears fall down her face. Rarity nodded.
"Yes dear, y-yes I do..." Rarity barely choked out trying to keep her tears in.
"Ohh or when we made it to the top of the moutian with big old meany dragon, and while we were waiting for Fluttershy we played all those tic-tac-toe games?" Pinkie asked again.
"Y-yes...I-I do..." Rarity began to cry as she rest her head on Pinkie just as Fluttershy had done. Pinkie hugged Rarity and they held their embrace for a little while.
"Well dear...I-I don't have much time so...I just want t-to thank you...f-for being such a-a good friend...you have been my friend...f-for as long as I can r-remember...and I-I am so sorry...t-to see you...g-go like this...
Twilight knocked on the door, indicating their time together coming to an end. Rarity hugged her friend once more and held her hoof for a while. Rarity looked down and closed her eyes tightly, a few more tears falling onto the bed sheets. After taking a shaky deep breath, she looked back up at her dying friend, who wore a sad smile.
"Thank you Rarity...I love you...and know we'll be together someday..." Pinkie whispered to Rarity before letting go of her hoof.
"I love you too Pinkie...Goodbye..." Rarity said before trotting out of the room tears falling out of her eyes. The room was quiet for a while before Applejack opened the door slowly, her brown stetson and blond mane showing ever so slightly. Soon her whole body came into view as she trotted in and closed the door behind her. She turned and faced Pinkie Pie with her soft emerald green eyes. She slowly trotted over to Pinkie's side and took a seat in one of the chairs. Bringing a hoof to the top of her head, she removed her stetson and placed it on her lap. She looked up at Pinkie and tried to smile softly, but it looked more like she was trying very hard not to cry. Which she was. Pinkie smiled back and placed a hoof on Applejack's hoof.
"Hey AJ..." Pinkie whispered sadly.
"Hey Pinkie...cuz..." Applejack wiped her eyes with a hoof, as a few tears started to form in them.
"Well Pinkie...Ah only have a few minuets to talk to ya so...here goes..." Applejack took a deep breath and sighed. "Do ya have any idea...how excited Ah was when Ah found out...ya'll were my family?" Applejack asked Pinkie a tear slipping down her cheek.
"As excited as you are about making apple pie?" Pinkie answered as enthusiastically as possible, smiling weakly. Applejack chuckled lightly as she shook her head slowly.
"Ah was so excited...Ah can't even try to explain...Ah love you Pinkie..." Applejack hung her head as many tears fell out of her green eyes. She sobbed quietly and squeezed Pinkie's hoof a little harder.
"Oh I love you too AJ..." Applejack sat up and hugged Pinkie tightly, not wanting to let go.
"We're Apples forever..." Pinkie began to sing quietly. Applejack broke the embrace and looked at Pinkie for a while.
"Apples together..." Applejack sang as she smiled softly.
"We're family and so much more..." They sang together. "No matter what comes we will face the weather...we're Apples to the...core..." A knock interrupted their song. Applejack looked over to the source of the knocking, before looking back at Pinkie.
"Goodbye Pinkie...Ah will always miss ya, and Ah love ya..." Applejack gave Pinkie one last hug before grabbing her stetson and placing it atop her head again.
"I love you too Applejack..." Pinkie smiled before Applejack turned away and walked out the door, silently crying the whole way. Pinkie only had about ten minuets left and she could feel herself slowly fading away. Twilight soon walked in and shut the door behind her with her magic. She trotted over to Pinkie and offered a weak smile. Pinkie smiled back as best as she could.
"Hi Pinkie..."Twilight began.
"Hey Twi...How are ya?" Pinkie tried to lighten up the mood a bit. Twilight chuckled as she tried to think of what to say to her friend in their last moments. It's not like she had prepared a speech or anything.
"Well Pinkie...first I wanna say how sorry I am to see you go like this...I mean...you were the first pony I met when I came to Ponyville..." Pinkie actually chuckled at the memory.
"Yeah, you were like, "Hi?" and I was all like, "Gasp!" and then I ran away to throw you a party." Pinkie smiled at Twilight as they recounted the memory.
"Twilight?" Pinkie asked breaking the silence between the two friends.
"Yes?" Twilight answered.
"I can feel it...I'm coming closer...to the end..." Pinkie whispered. Twilight felt a tear roll down her cheek, and more form in her eyes.
"I-I know..." Twilight said.
"But the funny thing is...I'm not scared...at all..." Pinkie said staring into Twilight's purple eyes. Twilight shut her eyes tight and grabbed one of Pinkie's hooves.
"You s-shouldn't be...y-you're going t-to a b-better place..." Twilight barely choked her words out through her sobs. Twilight leaned in and hugged Pinkie, crying the whole time. "I-I love y-you...P-Pinkie...and I-I will n-never forget...y-you..." Twilight sobbed into Pinkie's coat as Pinkie rubbed Twilight's back. "It's okay...I'll never forget you...I love you too..." Pinkie whispered to Twilight as she continued to sob. The knocking of the door indicated their time was up. Twilight broke their embrace and wiped her eyes, sniffling.
"Goodbye..." Twilight mouthed before trotting out of the room quickly. Twilight exited the room as Rainbow Dash came in, already in tears. Dash rushed over to Pinkie's side, gripping her hoof tightly as soon the door was closed. Dash sobbed heavily onto the bed sheets while Pinkie slowly stroked Dash's mane. The life was fading from her fast. She only had a few minuets left to live.
"I-I'm s-sorry P-Pinkie...I'm s-so so...sorry..." Dash choked out through her heavy sobs.
"It's okay Dashie...It's not your fault..." Pinkie cooed.
"J-just remember that t-this is not t-the e-end...it's the b-begining of o-our story...tales o-of wonder and of g-glory...h-how we would s-save t-the world a-again...d-do you r-remember w-when...we f-fought the m-monsters all the w-way...now here w-we are t-today...and I-I won't let our s-story end..." Dash sobbed as she hugged Pinkie tightly as her life began to fade away. Pinkie broke the embrace with Dash, a small smile on her face. She wiped away Dash's tears and placed a hoof under Dash's chin, pushing up so that Dash would look at her.
"I-I love you...D-Dashie..." Pinkie stammered as she slowly lost her life. She closed her eyes and laid her head down on her pillow, still grasping Dash's hoof. Dash sighed and silently cried.
"S-so...I guess t-this is the e-end...but I'll r-remember you f-forever...in my h-heart we'll b-be together...you w-will always be m-my friend...I-I'll still t-think of y-you when...I need a-a hoof u-upon my s-shoulder...cause I-I know it isn't...o-over...someday I-I'll s-see you...
Beep The heart monitor went still.
"Again..."
