The Importance of Memories
Chapter 1
Load Full StoryI awake. I can neither feel or see anything, it is all just a black void. The only thing I can do is think, even that is proving to be quite difficult. Slowly my senses start to return, I can smell the scent of fresh rain, it trickles past my body as I begin to retain my breathing. Soon I can feel myself being prodded by what feels like a stick, it's quite jagged and every time it touches me I shiver. Next I feel the mud underneath my belly and legs, I must be lying down. In a flash I my eyes snap open and I take a huge gasp for air. I am surrounded by a ring of ponies.
"Excuse me, mister? Are you all right?"Comes a voice
"You been here a while" Comes another
"What's yer name?"and another
"Do you know how you got here?" also another. Voices started piling up along with the questions, it was like the ring was closing in on me. It probably was but I didn't have enough time to find out.
"QUIET!" Screamed someone from behind the crowd, she pushed her way forwards until she could clearly see me, "Excuse me sir, would you like a hoof?" She spoke in a sincere voice that soothed my body. I nodded and took her hoof in mine, she slowly pulled me upwards. "What in the world did you guys think you were doing? This stallion appeared her bruised and scared and the first thing that comes to your mind is to bombard him with questions! Did none of you even have the decency to offer him a hoof?" She was fuelled with rage that no one wanted to aid me, it was quite scary. "Come on sir, were going to get you a nice place to bath and rest for the time being, you don't have to answer any questions right now." Her sincerity was back and her magenta eyes calmed me down again, "Now move it!" She screamed, back into her dominant mode as we parted through the crowd of ponies, I didn't even look back.
I sat on a hardwood chair while the water was running for my bath was being tended to by the lady. Her house was quite delightful. The wallpaper had vertical stripes of orange and yellow, her furniture had a theme of hardwood, the fireplace fit snugly into the indent on the wall and partially hung out, it fit right in with the furniture, but still managed to make it the centre of attention; even more so because it was raining and gloomy outside. There were two pictures, above the fireplace was a picture of her family (I assume), 90° of it was a picture of a field surrounded by an orchard, opposite it was a window looking into a field and opposite the fireplace was the door. To the right of the door (when you enter the house) was some stairs which lead to an indoor balcony which wrapped up around the room over the picture of the orchard and gave access to two other rooms. Underneath the balcony, between the fireplace and the picture were two doors. To the left of the door at the front of the house was small tree or a really large plant with lots of leaves. The house was very comforting.
Before I had time to admire the rest of the room, she came out of the bathroom and walked down the stairs towards me. She stopped when she got to me and just stared, after a moment of two she just smiled."Come on sir, lets go give you that bath." she told me
"Orion" I replied
"What?"
"M-my name is Orion." I managed to say
"That's a nice name. My names Rose Bed. Now enough talking, we need to get you cleaned," she said as I got dragged out of the chair and pulled upstairs, with my will mind you but it felt like I was being oppressed.
We got to the top and opened the first door, which as you guessed, lead into the bathroom. There was a strong lavender smell, not too strong, but it was definitely noticeable. It was a very generic bathroom if I'm honest, a sink, a toilet, at bath/shower. "Now I'll leave you to it, towels here, soaps here, toilet tissues here and the rest you can find yourself. If you need anything, just shout okay?" It was nice to meet someone so, well, nice.
"Yeah, okay," I relied to Rose
"See ya'," she said with a cheerful smile on her face walking towards the door.
"Wai-" I start to speak but cut myself off.
"Did you say something dear?" She questions.
"No it's nothing never mind"
"All right then, see ya'." She closed the door and I was by myself again.
I think its best to leave out my bath...
After my quite steamy bath, I decided it be best to go and talk to Rose Bed and try to clear things up maybe also apologise for the mess I made in the bath. In the living room was beautiful white mare, with bright red mane. I start to swoon at the very image of her. Snap out of it Orion, you met her not more than half an hour ago, just go talk to her, say your feeling better. I walk down the stairs and take a deep breath. It must of been quite load because she turned around. "Ah Orion your back, feeling much better I hope."
"I am, thank you for asking."
"Oh its no problem, I'll always do something for somepony in need." There was that smile again, if only I felt like this all the time. "Now tell me, Orion, what were you doing in the middle of the street?"
"I... Well, I can't remember."
"All right then, what were you doing yesterday?
"I, I can't remember"
"Were not going to get anywhere like this, come on Orion. Do you at least remember where you come from?"
"No..." That's when it hit me like a pile of bricks, I couldn't remember anything. What happened to me? All I could remember was my name and how to speak. "I don't know what's going on, I can't remember anything, its like someone found a backpack and decided to take everything except my name tag and a dictionary"
"Uhh, Orion, what's a name tag and what's a dictionairy?"
"How am I supposed to know! I don't know nothin'!"
"Wait here, my mum told me that if you can't remember drink some cider mixed with some special medicine."
"Medicine? Like what, tablets?
"Come again, tablets?"
"They're a type of medicine that's all I know" I may not know what they are, but I sure did know a lot of words. She smiled and left for what I assume was the kitchen, I went to go and sit on her sofa.
I heard the clangging of pots and pans as I was assuming Rose was demolishing her kitchen, it got me thinking; Do I like Rose? Yeah, I know what you're all thinking, but I think I know quite a bit about her. She appears to be a loving mare who puts the safety of others first, however she is quite dominant and seems to be able to get what she wants by force. Don't get me wrong I love a dominant mare, but there is a point where it crosses the line. She is very pretty indeed, and lets not forget about Dat Ass. Well I don't seem a problem with her, well mayb-
"Orion? Orion? Are you okay?" Rose said snapping me out of my trance.
"Wha, what? Of course I am apart from the memory problem. Why wouldn't I be?"
"Well it just the fact that you were to the point of drooling whilst looking at me." She said with a giggle at the end, which caused my stomach to be filled with butterflies. "Well it doesn't matter, I'm quite flattered, but you need to drink this cider," she said shoving the drink in my face. I took it out of her hoof and started to drink it slowly, it was quite dizzying if I'm honest.
"Uh, Rose?"
"Yes?"
"What's in this cider? It's making me feel quite dizzy."
"That's my mothers little secret. All I'll tell you is that you fall asleep within half an hour." She saw the terrified look on my face and started laughing, "Don't worry Orion, I've taken it three times before, trust me it works. Would've been two times had it not been for that damn former princess!" She spoke calmly but with rage in her eyes, "But lets not dwell on that, its in the past now and besides I have much more things to worry about than something that happened nine years ago."
"If you don't mind me asking, uh, what happened nine years ago?"
"Well I do mind, and if I didn't you wouldn't want to know. Besides I don't trust you yet."
"I trusted you enough to drink your drugged cider, why can't you trust me?" I asked with confusion
"For all I know you could be a snitch! You don't want to know what happened to the last snitch that came to this town." While she said this she was staring me down, looking into my soul.
"Point taken. I think I'm gonna rest until the drug affects me." Maybe I didn't like dominant mares.
"It's for the best, nighty night." Her smile returned and it calmed me all the way until I was asleep.
There is nothing but blackness, a void within the mind that sucks in everything. Somewhere in the distance is a shadowy thing, I feel its presence before it disappears and I left with nothing but my own thoughts, but even they are restricted by the void.
