ponies were, as a rule, very easily frightened. so when a rather large red and black swirling hole into the ether opened in town square, they wasted no time running back into whatever domicile they deemed to be safe. and waited.

"twilight!" the sudden yell of the pinkie variety shocked the lavender unicorn out of her book induced stupor.

"what pinkie?" true to her name, pinkie pie was covered in pink paint. not that it was noticeable.

"something weird is happening in the town square!"

"what-" she was cut off by the pink earth pony grabbing her and rushing out the now busted door. twilight casually wondered how she didn't hear that happen. but this was pinkie, and she shouldn't try to figure it out.

admittedly, this was odd. a portal to somewhere opening in the middle of town was unusual, even for ponyville. her friends, rainbow dash, rarity, fluttershy, and applejack were already there.

"this is weird. okay girls, we have to seal this before anything comes out or anypony goes in!"

"HAH! and if anything does come out, we'll crush it!" rainbow dash's usual cockiness brought a small smile to the newly appointed princesses face. but only just. this was bad. a portal to somewhere was dangerous. like the name said, it opened another door to a completely random place, and the only real way to control it was to have opened it in the first place. but that in itself had risks. she was knocked out of her thinking by the portal growing in size and length.
