Lullay, Darling Aurora
Hidden For Half A Decade
Previous ChapterNext ChapterLullay, Dear Aurora,
My shining little star, You will brighten our tomorrow, just remember that. You may not possess a crown, nor the wings of an angelic alicorn, but you are most certainly the princess of my heart. Now rest now, Lullay. Lullay, Darling Aurora.
That was the same lullaby Princess Luna had sung to me five years before and every day since then. She had adopted me after discovering eye the darkness of her old and ruined castle. I still believe all this to be a dream, and I would wake up to being a homeless unicorn again. But now I had family, and love. No source of magic was anywhere near as powerful. Mother- Princess Luna- Oh forget it, Mother has explained to me I must stay in my chamber for most of my life. For if not, the ponies will identify me as her daughter, and due to some still disliking her due to her past experiences as Nightmare Moon... They would make me perish. Aunt Celestia has been thought to be too merciful to her sister. Ponies want Mother banished once again, but Aunt Celestia shan't ever let it happen. I haven't actually met Auntie Celestia, but Mother tells me she's the most perfect pony Anypony would ever meet. She's kind, forgiving, and protective. Mother cannot spend all day with me, so it does get slightly lonely here, but there Is one pony that knows of me.
Or should I say, one bird.
Philomena has taken a large liking to mother, she follows her everywhere. Apparently, Auntie is slightly jealous. Philomena learnt about me after she followed mother into the hidden chamber inside her own chambers.
Today was different than all the other days. I usually just read a book with Philomena hunching over me, but no. Today, I awoke within the stroke of Dawn. As I pushed the sheets off of my body, my eyes darted around frantically. For mother was not there to greet me. "Caught up in one of her royal duties, I suppose." I mumbled as I got up and levitated a toothbrush. Philomena flew and fell onto my back and stared at a parchment stuck to the wall. I walked closer, tears swelling up in my eyes as I learnt what it said.
EVICTION NOTICE
Dearest Aurora,
It is time for you to go and spread your wings. I am certain you know of the war spreading throughout Equestria, and we are vulnerable for attack at all times. For this reason I must sacrifice my little star for the sole reason of protecting her. Pack your bags, a Royal Night Guard named Vespere will assist you and care for you in my absence.
I love you and always will, my most precious constellation.
Luna
My heart sank, mother was leaving me. She didn't even end it with the words 'Mother'. She didn't love me anymore... I didn't know what I did. Maybe she felt bad, thrusting me underground with nopony noticing and making me hide for half a decade. I fell to the floor, my eyes closed. I couldn't believe my own mother had abandoned me. But she wasn't my mother, I knew it. So I was abandoned twice. I sighed, if only I had a better connection with Mo- Princess Luna. She wouldn't leave me then. There was three knocks, and a magical outburst through a small hole. Soon, a stallion dressed in Obsidian Armor and bat-like wings stared at me cheerily.
"Ready to go?"
"Not really." A blue aura enveloped my horn, and soon the objects I needed were packed inside.
"Where are we going?"
"Ponyville."
"Wait... We are leaving the chamber?"
"Well... Yes." I gave a gasp. I wasn't sure to be anxious or excited, for I has always dreamed of leaving the chamber and discovering the Equestria Princess Luna talked so much about. Even so, she had always told me stories of how they would capture and torture me if they knew and had the chance. Wearily, I trotted to the door. Vespere smiled encouragingly, nodding too. His grey coat was magnificent and elegant, his bright yellow eyes which were slit, like a dagger, and his black mane that tumbled through his helmet. Even though his looks were slightly intimidating, I felt kindness and warmth in himself, so I stepped forwards once more. Once he was close enough, he threw a leathery wing upon me, pushing me closer to the chamber exit.
Then I saw her.
The hero I had loved and admired for my whole lifetime, the tyrant who blinded all with her Sun and lies. The one who was separating my mother and I just because... The one I called my aunt. Princess Celestia's wings firmly stuck to her body, she looked down at me like I was a speck of dust compared to her. Celestia turned away from me, her slender and tall figure towering above all. She looked down at Vespere. Her horn ignited with a golden aura, and Vespere's eyes turned to a normal Pegasus', and his wings transformed to feathers. She placed her horn on his shoulders and smiled, "Thank you for your assistance with the guards. Your service will always be remembered, take care of little Aurora," My eye twitched at the mention of little, "and never show your true identity to anyone. The war against the bat ponies might cause them to go inhumane... They might destroy you. Understood?" He nodded. "Then go." I clenched my teeth as I spoke the words I had kept in my heart.
"You tyrant." I hissed.
"Did you say anything?" Vespere looked at me quietly.
"No..."
