"Smoky?" Bloom Belle, Smoky's mother asked as she put her hoof on the door knob. "Smoky are you in here?"
Bloom Belle received a loud grunt, then an angry whinny. She let out a soft sigh and twisted the door knob. Just as she thought, it was locked.
"Smoky, open up," No reply. Magic engulfed her horn, and after pondering a bit whether she should disturb her daughter or not, the door clicked open.
Bloom Belle trotted over to her daughter who was breathing heavily on her bed, crying and spreading her wings across her back, ears flat on her head.
"Smoky, are you ok?"
All Bloom got in response her daughter's green eyes drooped and blood-shot from a loss of sleep and crying. She was starting to eat less and less and was getting a lot more aggravated a lot quicker than usual.
"Hey Smoky, tell ya what," the unicorn said patting her daughter's back. "Let's go play hoofball, like you use to when you were 4 years old."
Bloom Belle held a weak, sad smile on her face, still that little bit of hope that her daughter would go with her. When Smoky shook her head a "no", Bloom's heart sank, her weak smile turning into a soft frown.
"Why not dear?" her Mom asked. "It'll be fun!"
Smoky wiped her tears clean with her magic before answering her mom. "Mom, ever since I was given the title of a princess, I've been losing interest in activities, a loss of energy, and I find that tasks that I thought were simple before are extremely hard now. I feel hopeless and helpless, and I feel like the world would be a better place if I didn't even exist! I can't control my negative thoughts, no matter how hard I try, and every day I find myself crying or agitated!"
She flopped back on her bed and covered her damp eyes with her wings, which she got from her father Flame Flare. Bloom let out a sigh and exited the room, on the verge of tears, thinking about Smoky's 5th birthday party.
"Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday dear Smoky, happy birthday to you!" sang Smoky's friends as the cake was being presented.
"Alright Smoky," Smoky's father Flame Flare entered the party room balancing the cake on his back with his wings. "Make a wish and blow out the candles!"
Smoky squeezed her eyes shut, inhaled one big breath, blew out all 5 candles, and made her wish. All her friends stomped their hooves in excitement.
"What did you wish for, Smoky?" asked her friend, Daisy Blossoms.
"If I told ya, it wouldn't come true!" Smoky playfully yelled to Daisy while shifting uncomfortably under her dress.
For the rest of the party, all of Smoky's friends were dancing, laughing, and playing. On the dance floor, one of Smoky's friend's back hooves stepped on her dress, and when Smoky took a step forward, the dress tore off.
All of Smoky's friends gasped at the pair of black wings on her back. Smoky's eyes started filling up with tears, she had reason to cry.
She hated being a princess. That's why she tried to hide it. Being a princess sucked for her. She was terrible at flying, even worse at magic, and didn't have any authority. Back in magic kindergarden, she was the worst student.
She ran past her parents, tears streaming down her face, and outside the building in Fillydelphia. She quickly trotted towards her house, inside, up to her bedroom and shut the door with a THUD!
Bloom Belle, who was following her daughter, knocked on Smoky's door, hoping she was alright, her eyes damp. "Smoky, you in there?" Bloom asked putting her ear up to the door.
"Go away!" Smoky yelled.
Bloom Belle used her magic to unlock the door and walked in. She sat beside her crying daughter, and she knew this was the right time. To spill the secret she was keeping from her. She sighed and took a big breath.
"We're moving to Vanhoover."
Now Bloom Belle was here, and she just realized something; The symptoms her daughter was having, the crying, not wanting to be a princess, it all made sense now. She felt so clueless as to why she didn't realize it before, and she felt silly for not helping her daughter at all.
Smoky had depression.
