An Evening In

Night had fallen, and most in the city of Canterlot had gone home to rest after a long and prosperous day. The streets were calm and every building on every street was beginning to light up. On the edge of the city was a rather fancy apartment block, the kind of place you knew only the wealthy and influential could afford to stay in. At the front were a pair of young men wearing the traditional red uniform of bell hops, looking out for any of the building's residents coming home after work. However, it was not long before they caught sight of something. A trio of girls, whose appearance gave the impression of teenagers, though if they truly knew them, they'd know they were far older. The girls were all clad in similarly-looking hoodies, with the hoods in question pulled up over their heads. As they approached, they began letting out a quiet but hypnotic melody, one that immediately caught the attention of the two men. They listened to the soothing voices for a moment or two before their eyes began to glow green slightly, a clear sign of enchantment.

They stood aside as the girls entered the building, singing their tune all the way. The bell hops followed them, escorting them up to the main elevator in the centre of the entrance hall. With every moment, other officials of the building began to fall under the influence of the song, feeling compelled to offer greeting to the girls or simply bow in their presence, much to the girls' amusement. It was not long before the girls reached the elevator, entering it and taking it up a few floors, with the two young men in tow to operate it for them. After a few minutes, they reached their desired floor, and the men gave them all a tip of their hats before seeing the girls out, after which they operated the elevator to return to the ground floor. Now alone, the girls pulled down their hoods, giving each other a smirk and a giggle at having pulled this little stunt off. They walked down the corridor for a while before eventually picking out a room for themselves, opening it with ease and entering. It was a lavish and fancy place, with every luxury one could want of an apartment.

Smiling at their surroundings, the girls moved further in, closing the door behind them. Aria immediately leapt onto a nearby soft sofa, stretching out on it and kicking off her sneakers.

"Ah! After today, this is more like it!"

She got comfortable on the sofa, resting her head against one of it's pillows. But this moment was short-lived as Adagio walked up to her and folded her arms with a frown on her face.

"Don't get too comfy, Aria. We're just stopping for a little bit. An hour or two at most. The night is still young and there are plenty of people out there who are probably filled to the brim with negative energy for us."

Aria opened her eyes after her brief moment of relaxation, scowling at her leader before replying to her.

"Oh come on, Adagio! We've been doing that all day, can't we just stay here and absorb it?"

Adagio shook her head at that.

"This is a high-end place. Best case scenario, we'll have maybe a few dozen people here to cast our spell on, but no more. That's nowhere near enough, and you know it."

Aria let out a groan and repositioned herself on the sofa, so that she was now facing away from Adagio. The later then glowered angrily at her companion, and it looked as though the two might come to blows on this matter. Sonata, who had been quietly standing there during all this, suddenly gained a look that gave the distinct impression that she'd just thought of an idea. She skipped over to the other two before speaking up in an enthusiastic manner.

"Hey! How about we don't do our usual thing at all?"

This caught the attention of both of the other girls, who stared at her with looks that made it clear that they didn't quite understand where she was coming from. Sonata, seeing this, began to explain herself.

"Well...it's just...we spend every day and night going out and doing the same thing. So, I was thinking...why not just...you know...stay in for once?"

The blank looks Adagio and Aria were giving her made Sonata feel as if one or both of them was going to snap at her for that suggestion However, much to her surprise, the two gave each other a glance before turning back to her, Aria speaking up first.

"You know what, Sonata? That could well be the first smart thing you've said in months."

Sonata beamed at that, apparently having completely glossed over the fact that Aria's words had been a back-handed compliment. But she nevertheless squealed with joy after both Aria and Adagio gave small smiles, indicating they were willing to go along with this. The other girls watched as Sonata rushed over to the built-in phone the apartment had near the front door, picking it up and starting to talk down to room service downstairs. They began to busy themselves with preparing themselves for a night in, all while occasionally listening in to what Sonata was talking about over the phone. Something about ordering food for them. Regardless, it wasn't long before the blue Siren was joining the other two, going to their respective rooms and getting changed out of their regular clothes and into something more appropriate for the evening. Soon enough, they all re-emerged into the main living room, all clad in simple dressing gowns and slippers, all their preferred colour, with Sonata's being pink, green for Aria and purple for Adagio.

Now sitting upon that same comfy sofa, the girls relax a little and all let out a relaxed sigh in unison. A few moments afterwards however, Aria reached forward and grabbed the remote to the nearby television before turning to the other girls.

"So, wanna watch something?"

Adagio nodded at that, but then gained a look that showed that she was deep in thought over something.

"Tell me...who gets to choose the TV channel this time?"

The moment Adagio had asked the question, Sonata flung her arm up, like a schoolchild eagerly waiting for the teacher to pick them.

"Ooh! It's my turn tonight!"

Aria let out a groan at that.

"Let me guess, you wanna watch that kiddie horse show again?"

Sonata gave her friend an indignant look.

"Hey! Just because it's made for kids doesn't mean we can't enjoy it too."

Rather than debate with her on this, Aria simply handed the remote over to her. Eagerly, Sonata took it and began flipping through the television channels until she finally reached the one she wanted. So, the three girls watched Sonata's chosen show, with the latter easily being the most enthusiastic about it. Aria and Adagio enjoyed it, though they'd never openly admit that, lest Sonata actually take the initiative and act smug for once. After about half an hour of watching it, they listened as the show's old-timey narrator closed out the episode, sounding far more into it than any narrator should be.

"Will Dusk Shine be able to get his friends back to normal? Will he manage to thwart the machinations of the chaotic Eris? Find out the answers next week on My Little Horsey! Same horse time, same horse channel!"

With the show now over, Sonata let out a happy squeal, clearly having been excited by it. Aria rolled her eyes at that, but both she and Adagio turned their attention to the front door of the apartment after they began to hear a knocking sound. It was Adagio who walked over to it, opening the door and seeing that it was room service. A young bell hop was there, holding a tray covered in a number of cooked dinner items. Adagio smiled and allowed him entry, wherein he promptly placed the tray carefully in the dining room area of the apartment. Tipping his hat to the girls, he made his way outside, but not before offering his hand, a traditional sign that he wanted to be tipped. Adagio gave a smirk at this before promptly letting out a low tune. As expected, the man was soon entranced, withdrawing his hand and walking off in a daze, much to Adagio's amusement. Returning to her friends, she sat down at the table with them.

"Well then, dig in girls."

They didn't need to be told twice, as Aria and Sonata promptly took their own meals from the selection available to them. Within moments, all three were eating as much as they could, with Sonata especially letting out satisfied munching sounds, as well as the occasional lack on table etiquette, given how much was stuffed in her face. It was a sight that caused no end of amusement for Adagio and Aria, that much was certain. After the girls had finished about half of their respective meals, Adagio let out a sigh before turning to her cohorts.

"Well, I have to admit, this was pretty nice."

Sonata beamed at that.

"Yeah! I mean, we have this power, so why not enjoy it for once?"

Aria let out a sounds that seemed like a mix between a chuckle and a scoff.

"Gotta admit, she has a point. Beats roaming around the city in the middle of the night, that's for sure."

Adagio nodded in agreement over that.

"Quite. And since we've got the place to ourselves tonight, I think I'll get to sleep early. Don't know about you, but today took more out of me than I thought."

Sonata finished her mouthful and watched as Adagio began to make her way up from the table and towards her room. However, it was here that Sonata got an idea, and leapt up from her chair and ran over to Adagio's door, barring her path. Adagio, who naturally was taken aback by this, watched as Sonata smiled widely at her.

"Ooh! You know what'd be really fun?"

Adagio raised an eyebrow at that, turning to see if Aria had any idea what Sonata was talking about. Sadly, the purple-haired girl had no inkling at all, and so shrugged her shoulders. Turning back to Sonata, Adagio let out a sigh before slumping her shoulders.

"Okay, Sonata...what is it?"

Sonata let out a giggle before answering.

"You know! That thing from when we were young?"

Adagio wracked her brain, trying to think what she was talking about. However, realisation soon dawned on her, and she let out a groan before speaking to Sonata again.

"Really? In the same bed? We're not children anymore, Sonata."

However, in retaliation for this, Sonata put on her best "pouty" face, complete with puppy-dog eyes, and began to whimper a bit.

"But...pwetty pwease?"

Adagio had, over the course of many centuries, gained a hardened heart and could very well have stared down abominations and horrors the likes of which humankind could only have nightmares about. And yet, in spite of that, she wavered almost he second Sonata gave her that face. She opened her mouth several times, trying to get her words out and convince Sonata not to do this. But she failed, and quite badly at that. Instead of saying "no", Adagio merely slumped even more, giving a grim and unhappy nod, much to Sonata's delight. The Siren leader was then taken aback as her friend leapt forward, embracing her in a tight hug. So tight, in fact, that Adagio swore that she was about to lose consciousness, only to then be relieved as Sonata let go of her. Aria laughed at this, but that soon faded as Sonata turned her attention towards her. Grinning, Sonata rushed over to Aria, grabbing her arm and yanking her upwards, making her way towards Adagio's room, and making sure to grab Adagio herself on the way.

With her companions now in her grip, Sonata kicked the door of the bedroom down with a strength that surprised even Adagio and Aria. Having now entered the room, Sonata moved with a speed hitherto unknown, and soon all three of them were in bed, with the sheets tucked in tight to prevent any kind of escape, much to the worry of Sonata's two friends. Sonata, in the meantime, was still smiling, getting comfortable and letting out a contented sigh.

"Well, goodnight, Adagio."

Adagio let out a groan before answering.

"Yeah, goodnight, Sonata."

Smiling at that, Sonata then turned to Aria.

"Goodnight to you too, Aria."

Aria snorted at that.

"Sure, whatever."

Silence fell between the three girls as both Adagio and Aria tried their best to get to sleep, not helped by the awkward situation their blue friend had put them in. That silence was then promptly interrupted, once again, by Sonata.

"Goodnight, room!"

And that, naturally, earned her the scorn of the others.

"GO TO SLEEP!!!"
