Heart to Heart
Load Full Story“Thanks again Pinkie” Twilight called over her shoulder as she walked up the stairs balancing two boxes that were probably filled with books.
“No problem Twily” Pinkie said as she balanced the two boxes she had “I wasn’t planning on doing anything today anyway.”
“Unlike everyone else I know” Twilight grumbled.
“It’s not their fault they had things to do this weekend.”
“All of them?”
“Ok so maybe it’s a bit coincidental, but don’t blame them.”
“Oh, I will blame them” Twilight grumbled.
“Twilight, stop it” Pinkie exclaimed, this outburst causing one of the boxes she was carrying to fall. The crash that came after it caused the two to fall quiet. Quickly setting down her boxes Twilight ran over the box and opened it.
“Is anything broken?” Pinkie asked worriedly. “No” Twilight said with a sigh “Only a picture frame, nothing that can’t be fixed” Twilight said.
“I'm sorry Twily” Pinkie said apologetically.
“It’s not your fault” Twilight assured her.
“Yes it is I dropped the box.”
“I’m not blaming you for this, besides it was an accident. I’ll just have to buy a new frame, no biggie.”
“No it’s a big biggie.”
“Pinkie, drop it, its fine. I think I can handle buying a picture frame!”
“But I feel guilty” Pinkie said stomping her foot.
“Fine if it bothers you so much you can buy me a new picture frame!” Twilight exclaimed picking her boxes back up “Grab your boxes, we only have two more flights of stairs left. Today would be the day that their goddamn elevator wouldn’t work.”
Picking up her boxes Pinkie continued following Twilight up the stairs making sure to avoid any obstacles that would make her drop any boxes, she didn’t want to break anything else. By looking at Twilights back she could tell that she was definitely angry, it was tense and looked all defensive. When they finally reached Twilight’s new apartment after a silent ascent, Pinkie let out the breath she hadn’t know she had been holding.
Putting down her boxes and unlocking the door she turned around to Pinkie and said “Come on in, we’ll go grab the rest in a few minutes after I throw away all the broken glass.”
Walking inside, she gently placed the boxes down before she turned her attention to Twilight. Her friend placed the picture on the counter before carefully beginning to pick up the glass and throw it away. Pinkie, curious to see what the picture was slid up to the table the picture was placed on and looked at it.
She had expected it to be a picture of them or their friends, maybe even a picture of that one kid at the school she worked at that seemed to decide that she was his mom or something. But she was surprised to see it was a picture of what looked like Twilight’s family.
Twilight had never really talked about her family. Just that she had a mom and dad that were together and an older brother, but never anything else, likes names or anything on them.
“Hey Twily” Pinkie called, looking over to her friend who seemed to be finishing cleaning up the remnants of the picture frame.
“Yeah Pinkie” Twilight answered, looking up.
“Is this a picture of your family?” she asked pointing down at the picture.
“Huh, oh yeah. That’s my family” Twilight answered simply as though she didn’t want to continue the conversation.
“Why don’t you talk about them?”
“It’s kinda personal.”
“Can you tell me anything about them?”
“Uh…yeah, sure I guess” Twilight said walking over and picking up the picture, smoothing her thumb over it gently “My dad’s name is Night Light and he’s an astrologist, when I was younger I wanted to be just like him, I wanted to be an astrologist. But as you know I didn’t follow that path, sometimes though I wish I had, I always have loved the stars” Twilight said fondly with a nogalistic smile “My mom was a book keeper for a while until her book was published. You might have heard of her, Twilight Velvet. After that she quit that job and took on writing full time, I always blamed her for my obsessive love of reading” Twilight said pausing.
“What about your brother?” Pinkie asked, curios to who he was.
Taking a deep breath Twilight continued “My brother, Shining Armor, and I were best friends when we were younger. I called him my big brother best friend forever or BBBFF for short. He’s a police officer, I don’t know what his rank is, I haven’t talked to him in a while.”
“How come, you two sound pretty tight?”
“We used to be tight, but now…” Twilight trailed off.
“Yeah? Come on Twily you can trust me.”
“He started to date this one girl, it was actually my babysitter. I loved her like a sister, her name was Cadence. I was really happy for them but Cadence seemed to have changed since I last saw her. She was rude, demanding, petty and was horribly mean to me. I tried to talk with her first about but this caused her to go batshit crazy on me. So after that I went and talked to my brother but then he got angry at me. Asking why I wasn’t happy for them, why couldn’t I accept that I couldn’t be the only girl in his life. He kept going on about how what an angel she was and how he loved her. Then he said if I couldn’t accept their love then to leave them alone” Twilight said taking a deep breath.
“So what did you do?” Pinkie asked.
With a weak smile she responded “Why do you think I moved here? I packed up everything I owned that night and left town. I haven’t seen any of them since” Twilight said before letting out a sob as tears began to stream down her face.
“Oh Twily, why didn’t you tell us?” Pinkie said wrapping her arms around her friend and pulling her into a hug.
“You all didn’t need to be burdened by my problems” Twilight sobbed.
“But that’s what friends are for; we help you through your problems. Understand?” Pinkie asked looking at her friend.
Twilight slowly nodded her head before saying “But it doesn’t end there.”
“It doesn’t?”
“No, I got an invitation in the mail a few days ago. It was for my brother and Cadence’s wedding.”
“Oh Twily” Pinkie said hugging her tightly “Everything will be fine.”
“What should I do Pinkie? Should I go or just not go and pretend that I never got it?”
“You should go.”
“Why?”
“So you can make peace with your brother and this Cadence lady, she is gonna be you’re sister-in-law.”
“Your right, I just don’t want to go alone.”
“Then I’ll go with you!”
“Really?’ Twilight asked hopefully.
“Yeah, that’s what friends are for. Plus you need support if that Cadence chick tries anything.”
Giggling Twilight said “Thanks Pinkie, I can always trust on you.”
“So are we going to start carrying the rest of the boxes up?”
“Yeah, yeah, just give me a minute.”
