Chapter 13: The Ghoul

  *Somewhere Underground*

An NCR Ranger comes trotting down a long, dark corridor. The sound of his hoofs hitting the mettle ground echoed. The Ranger stopped in front of a huge mettle door. The Ranger takes out an ID card and swipes it on a scanner next to the door. He mutters something under his radio and proceeded into the dark room. The only light he had was his helmets visor glow. Even that didn't reveal much. He did however have a motion tracker which was reading at a flat line. The Ranger speaks into the radio.

"Command come in."

Silence for a few seconds before a female voice answers back to him.

"Yes Ranger? What have you found?"

"Nothing so much command, its pitch black in here."

"Roger that. Keep searching for those documents."

The radio signal dies and the Ranger continues his search. He searches around the next few rooms but finds nothing of interest. Nothing but empty soda cans, beakers, and other surgical equipment.

"This Vault's dead." He thought.

*Beep* *Beep* Beep*

The Ranger quickly looks and sees two dots on his motion tracker. He then pulls out a Lazer Rifle quickly from his back and aims it in the direction of the signals. He calls out.

"Identify yourselves!"

No answer. He then proceeds to the two dots. He can hear what it sounded like moaning. The moans sounded painful, sad, and angry. The Ranger moves further but is not prepared what he sees. Two children, not even six, were sitting in front of him. Their bodies look as if they were decaying. The flesh was far gone from one of the children's face. Their tiny bodies were nothing but skin and bone. The Ranger couldn't help but start crying about what he was seeing. Ghouls. Then, one of the fillies looked at him. Her groan was hard to listen to as she tried to get up but noticed her leg was bended and twisted beyond medical help. The Ranger put down his gun, and picked up the filly. Her body was cold and roughed textured. Her breathing was hot. He also felt little, to no heart-beat. The Ranger hugged the filly and whispered.

"S..sorry...we couldn't save you in time."

He could feel his helmet fill up with his tears. The Ranger then let out a blood curdling scream at the sight of the Ghoul biting in his neck. Blood was leaking from the wound fast. The Ranger pulled the filly away and shot her dead in the head. Her body collapsed to the ground. The other Ghoul filly jumped and tried to mimic the same thing the other filly did. The Ranger however wasn't going to make the same mistake twice. He shot the filly with the Lazer Rifle hitting her in the chest. The filly then turned to dust. The Ranger leapt to his feet and began sprinting out the Vault. He turned on his radio.

"Command! We have a situation!" he yelled, panting.

The female voice from before came back.

"Ranger what's wrong!?"

"This Vault's got Ghouls! We need an extermination team out here now!"

The Ranger was then tackled by another Ghoul, must larger than the fillies. The screams of bloody murder cried over the radio as the Ranger was torn to pieces. The female had no choice but to shut the radio off.

*Back at New Appaloosa*

Sharpshooter was in the mist of cleaning his shotgun after yet another attempted bandit raid of the town. One of the bandits got his shotgun all bloody after Sharpshooter stuck it in her mouth. Sharpshooter had to admit these raids were starting to get tedious. Every week or so they would happen. Sharpshooter heard the door open to see Colony and Dutton coming home. He could see the wear and tear this week's taken out of the both of them. Colony collapsed on the couch with Dutton collapsing in her back. Sharpshooter grinned.

"Hard day?" he asked.

Colony with her baggy eyes looked at Sharpshooter. She groaned shoved her face into the couch.

"Yes." she said.

Sharpshooter took some time away from his shotgun(which was done any way, he just liked looking at it) and got some water in a couple cups. Dutton came over and grabbed his. Sharpshooter handed Colony hers. She took it and drank it in one gulp. Sharpshooter's grin was now above his head. Colony saw this and slugged him on the arm. Both laughed.

"I want to take the weekend off." Colony groaned.

"Diddo." Sharpshooter laughed.

Colony looks over to the dining table and sees Sharpshooter's gun. She then gets an idea. Colony goes over to his shotgun. Sharpshooter gives her a confused looks.

"Up for a little competition?" she asked.

Sharpshooter raised an eyebrow.

"Depends...what did you have in mind?"

Colony walks over to Sharpshooter with a strange look in her eye.

"Who has the best aim." she said with a smile.

Sharpshooter gave an evil smile. Colony did the same.

"What are prizes?" Sharpshooter asked.

Colony giggled and handed Sharpshooter his shotgun. She put a hoof to her chin and started thinking. A light bulb went off in her head.

"The winner gets what ever they want from the other."

Sharpshooter thought about it for a minute before he gave a nod of agreement. A knock was heard at the front door. Sharpshooter opened the door and saw something he wished he didn't. Sharpshooter was looking at something dead. The rotting corpse in front of him tackled him and tried biting Sharpshooter. Sharpshooter punched the Ghoul in the jaw. The jaw went flying out the door and Sharpshooter kicked the Ghoul off him. Sharpshooter grabbed his shotgun and pulled the handle trigger. Nothing. He forgot to load the gun. The Ghoul came full force. Sharpshooter braced himself. The Ghoul's head exploded in mass cloud of blood. Sharpshooter looked back to see Colony with a Cowboy Repeater. She lowered the gun from her face and gave Sharpshooter a wide smile.

"Your screwed." she said.

Sharpshooter gave a slightly annoyed face.

"Fuck you."

Colony shot back with loud laugh.

"You wish."
