Night of the Infinite Rounds
"I'M DOWN! DON'T LET HER GET ME!"
Callum shouted as he collapsed, dropping his Ray Gun. The horrifying monstrosity was not far behind as her charge was what caused Callum to stumble. Seeing opportunity, the monstrosity began ripping off large chunks of flesh with its teeth. His screams were heard throughout the entire castle as it dug itself deeper inside his chest cavity, ripping him apart with its teeth and sharp horn.
Those potions that Twilight concocted from the safety of the castle library were keeping him alive, but only just. He was close to bleeding out. Callum desperately tried to reach his Ray Gun, but it was just out of reach. And if he got close, the monstrosity would drag and flail him like a ragdoll.
He needed serious help.
"You distract the bitch, I'll get him up!" Damon shouted, wielding his Ice Staff firmly as he laid waste to many more hordes that were storming the now-destroyed, castle doors. There were a few pegasi trying to break in the barricaded windows, but with the door breached, every single pony stormed through the entrance.
Following Damon's instinct, Sean ran towards the monstrosity, charging up his last DG-2 shot. He jumped and planted it firmly around it's horn, before pulling the trigger. But the attack also backfired. The overwhelming current of the Element rendered Sean numb, making him collapse to the ground.
The monstrosity stumbled back, wincing in pain as the Element coursed through its strong, but ghastly body.
"Shit! Sean!" Ryan shouted as he emptied his entire Thundergun clip into the general direction of the monstrosity as Damon ran around him to revive Callum or Sean.
Damon used the ability he gained earlier to figure out that Sean's injuries were much less severe than Callum's. He decided to revive Sean, and he was up in a near instant. Callum was going to need some time, and they didn't have any time. As Ryan reloaded his Thunder Gun, he was blind-sided by a unicorn, causing him to stumble and lose concentration.
Combined with a circling Pegasus above him, Ryan knew that his time was coming. He reloaded his Thundergun and fired two shots into the air, trying to catch the circling pegasus, but he didn't notice the three unicorns approaching him from behind.
With the monstrosity in pursuit of the two, Sean and Damon took off for the Starswirl the Bearded Wing after opening a few doors and clearing one stairway of debris. Damon took one last look behind him to see Ryan fatally impaled by a unicorn horn. He fell to the ground, kicking and screaming.
As the monstrosity grew closer, he glimpsed at Callum's lifeless body. He bled out and has been dead for a while.
Damon looked away and realised that the monstrosity was almost at the stairwell.
"Come on Damon! We need to go!" Sean shouted down the stairwell, clearing debris with a thundering echo as he did.
"Go for the Starswirl Wing!" Damon shouted back, as he began running up the stairs as fast as his legs would carry him.
But the daunting sound of multiple hooves clopping across the marble and stone floor terrified Damon. He needed to steel himself. Once he reached the top of the stairs, he regained his composure.
"Hey man, open the last door! I haven't got enough Energy!" Sean shouted, tapping his elbow on the steel door that led into the Starswirl Wing.
Damon touched the door with his right hand and with a burst of light, the door slid open. As they ran inside, a large gold and platinum hourglass stood proud in the middle of the room. There was only one door way and one window.
Sean took a defensive position in front of the only door as Damon interacted with the hourglass. He pushed the bottom with considerable force, but it never moved.
"Wha!? Twilight said this would work!" Damon exclaimed, frustrated and scared beyond his wits.
"Here they come!" Sean shouted back as the sound of groans, flapping of wings and the thunderous clopping sounds got dreadfully louder.
Damon ran over to the window and put it through with the butt end of his Ice Staff. Pegasus ponies were flying and Earth ponies were scaling the walls, heading for the only window in the tower.
The sound of augmented guns, bullet shells hitting the floor, magical casts and the everlasting scream of the undead filled the room quickly. Before they knew it, Sean was overrun. He retreated to reload his weapon, but was pinned to a corner by the monstrosity.
"FUCKING CHOKE ON IT!" Sean shouted as he rammed his DG-2 into the monstrosity's chest and fired all six rounds. Sean fell limp against the wall that he was pinned to, and slid down it slowly as his life faded from his eyes.
Hearing the scream, Damon wheeled around to see Sean's final act of valour. As he looked away from his body, he saw a huge horde heading towards him. Damon knew this was it. He decided that there was no other way out. He froze the last of the undead blocking the way to the window, took a large run up.
And jumped.
As he free fell from the highest tower in Canterlot Castle, he let go of the Ice Staff and let gravity do the rest.
As the ground grew closer and closer, he was grateful that he spent his final moments with his closest friends, despite the circumstances.
And just before he hit the floor-
Smoking Barrel wakes up in his soft bed, covered in cold sweats and enduring shakes. He rubbed his moist forehead with a shaken hoof. He glanced outside to see that it was sunrise. It was only a nightmare.
"Phew, what a dream."
With the certainty of reality kicking back into place, he fell back into his pillow, letting the worry of death fade away.
