*Rune City*

A great battle raged on in the confines of Rune City.

Team Magma and Aqua were locked in battle for the city while their leaders battled it out with two small children who had been interfering with their plans all the way through. The city was in ruins and all around them as pokemon and trainers from both sides destroying more of it every second.

Among them was one trainer a young woman on Team Magma's side who stood out from them all. She stood tall and proud over three Aqua grunts and an elite mook. She wore the traditional Team Magma sweater but instead of a skirt she wore long black cargo pants with tall black combat boots. Her eyes were covered by a green visor and on her left arm was a gauntelt with a small screen and at the end was a orb of pink, yellow, and black.

The orb shined as the sunlight reflected off it. The Magma grunt grinned at the Aqua trio she faced. The each summoned their pokemon consisting of two crawdaunts and a walrein. The Magma grunt gave them a evil wicked grin that promised untold amounts of pain. She then picked out a pokeball and threw it out towards the Aqua team of pokemon.

"Mawile! Get em!" she yelled out.

The ball split open and from it came a bright flash of light which ran out like a serpent to the ground. Taking form the light formed into a small yellow pokemon with a large black ponytail that had a mouth. It was as cute as it was deadly. A mawile. Fairy and steel at it's best.

The mawile grinned like her trainer it's black maw opening ready to chomp down on its victims before it.

"Alright Mawile. Time to get down to business. Use crunch on the walrein!" the Magma grunt ordered.

With a short grunt the steel fairy pokemon lunged forward faster than lightning and then it turned leading with its second mouth which whipped open and bit down on the walrien. The walreins trainer gasped as my mawile spun around throwing the massive white pokemon into the crawdaunts. The first to recover was the larger crawdaunt who stood ready to fight.

Crawdaunt use bubblebeam!" the Aqua trainer screamed.

The orange pokemon complied firing a stream  of bubbles at my mawile. The crawdaunt was strong but my little mawile was stronger still. My little yellow friend used his larger black mouth to block the attack shrugging it off like it was nothing. All that training in the VR was finally paying off. The Aqua grunts grunted as the other two pokemon got up having recovered from the initial impact.

Quickly the crawdaunts surrounded my mawile leaving the walrein in the front. Mawile looked around between them as the first crawdaunt fired a water gun stream at him, he blocked it just like we did in the simulators. Then a second one, but the third came from the walrien from behind smashing against his back. The Aqua trio applauded their pokemon for excellent team work.

My poor mawile fell to the ground struggling to get back up. His determination never left him. I could sense it. I was never much for words and mawile was never one to show weakness. Yet we could always  tell the the other was thinking. We had a connection. From the time I was a small child mawile was there for me and we never separated. When I became old enough to become a trainer I took mawile as my partner. We've been fighting together since.

"Come on mawile! Get up! I know you can! Come on!" I yelled nearly running over to help him.

He grinned. That same stupid smug grin he always did when he knew he was in over his head and didn't want to ask for help. I knew what it meant. It was close to the end. I nodded to him as he clumsily stood up and turned to face down the trio of pokemon who now bunched together ready to finish him.

"Walrien!"

"Crawdaunt!"

"Crawdaunt!"

"USE ICE BEAM!" the trio of Aqua trainers cried out.

Quickly I pulled up my arm and smacked the small orb on my gauntlet as my mawile began to glow surrounded by a large energy cocoon. This gauntlet was given to me by Maxie for my years of loyal service. He said I was going to be a great admin one day. With this key stone me and my partner will carve our destinies together leading to a bright future. The energy absorbed the ice beams condensing down until it exploded outwards revealing my now all powerful mega mawile.

"You guys are so screwed." I warned before snapping my fingers at the shocked Aqua members. "Mawile destroy them until there's nothing but dust."

"What does that mean?" one asked the other two who shrugged.

"Allow me to demonstrate. Mawile! Hyperbeam!" I yelled pointing at them.

Mawiles two black heads bent forwards like a blastoise would it water canons. Two yellow energy orbs began to build up in them expending as time went on. They grew and grew until they reached the size of mawile himself and fired two large beams of pure energy at his opponents.

"Walrein use protect!"

The white pokemon waddled forward summoning a green shield tat deflected the beams. They trainer of the walrien was cheering but was cut short when my mawiles hyper beam overpowered them. The pokemon flew back into their trainers knocking them out cold. I was happy to have won and so was mawile. I ran over hugging him laughing as he grinned gnawing on my mead with his giant maws.

"Stop that! You silly fool!" I said playfully as the Aqua grunts recovered with their pokemon.

I glared at them as they struggle to get up helping their pokemon up from the ground. I had to admit, even though I didn't agree with their views of the world they did care for their pokemon like I did. That spoke greater than any words could to me about their character. They looked at me standing ready for the fight to continue.

"You ready mawile?" I asked my partner and he nodded silently. "Great let's show them what we can do! Crush these weaklings with another hyper beam!"

"Crawdaunt Ice beam!"

"Walrien use body slam!"

As the attacks came the earth shook followed by a loud set of roars that threw everything of balance.

*BOOOOM!*

"What the- GAH!!!" I screamed in pain as my foot became encased in ice by the stray ice beam attack.

I struggled against the icy hold but wasn't able to move. My mawile retreated to me trying to help me break free when a second explosion shook the world again. Everyone in the city stopped and looked around until on member of Team magma pointed to the sky. "LOOK!" he screamed.

Everyone looked to see Primal Groudon fighting Primal Kygore. It was truly a humbling experience for me. I never realized just how powerful these two were apart but when they were together it shook the very foundation of the earths core. It was terrifying to see such power before my eyes. My awe didn't last long as the earth began to slit releasing magma to the surface. Everyone in the city soon forgot their fighting and banned together to try and escape.

An overhead announcement soon followed from Leader Maxie and the Leader of Team Aqua, Archie.

"To all members of Magma! This is your leader Maxie! I stand before you with my long time arch nemesis Archie leader of team Aqua. We both realized the terrible mistakes we've made today and now ask you to lay down arms and help each other to get out of the city as quickly as possible."

A second voice belonging to Arhcie followed after Maxies. "That's right! Our foolish battle has lead to the destruction of the world. We now must stand together if we're to pull out of this and survive! Team Aqua I'm ordering you to stand down and assist in evacuating Rune City!"

"The same goes for all members of Team Magma! Load the choppers and evacuate all civilians from the city as quickly as possible!"

I couldn't believe what I just heard and apparently neither did the Aqua members across from me. Our to organizations had been at each others throats for so long it was hard to imagine us working together so suddenly. But help each other we did. Both team helped evacuate the citizens of Rune city. Our helicopters assisted the Aqua Subs taking on people by the loads. I myself was now frantically trying to escape the ice hold on my foot Mawile tried to help but was too weak from the long day of fighting to help me.

The Aqua trainers tried to get to me but were stopped when the earth split again leading to a fiery death to any who would attempt to cross. My poor mawile grunted trying to free me  and the Aqua Trainers called to me.

"Hang on! We'll get to you!"

I waved them off. "NO! Stay away! Take my mawiles pokeball! Save him!"

I then reached for my belt and threw the red and white ball at them. The walreins trainer caught it and used it to recall my mawile. She then put it on her belt and spun her hand around in a circle. saying something to her teammates. The quickly recalled their pokemon and ran off leaving the trainer and her walrien behind.

"Walrein ice beam! Make a bridge!"

Sceconds later the white pokemon shot a icy beam that created a light blue bridge of ice allowing it's trainer to get part way across. Once more the earth shook and the trainer jumped back instinctively to avoid her doom but the pokeball fell fro her belt. She cried out trying to reach it but the ball split open releasing my mawille beside me. The pokeball fell into the lava below slowly melting away into the hot liquid surface.

Mawile looked at me with an angry scowl the likes of which never graced his face before. He glared at me clearly hurt by what I had done in giving him up so easily. I pet his head trying to put on a brave face despite being terrified out of my mind.

"Hey buddy." I cooed pulling him into a hug< but he pushed me away glaring at me. It broke my heart to see him look at me like that. "Aww come on buddy. You know I only did it to save you!"

He wasn't having any of it though. He turned his nose up to me not bothering to look in my direction. My heart shattered as an aching deep in my chest overwhelmed me. I felt guilty trying to send him away but I knew it would have been th right thing to do. He shouldn't have to go down with me. Even though I knew that's what he'd want.

I pulled him into a hug and he wrapped his maws around me along with his tiny arms. Comforting me in our final moment. "I love you buddy. Thanks for staying by my side."

"Mawile." he cooed back.

Just then the ground beneath us collapsed and we fell down into the fiery abyss below. I looked to see the lava coming closer to us. Everything became bright as a golden light surrounded us. Engulfing us in a blanket of warmth that wasn't overwhelming but cool at the same time. As this happened I felt my fears wash away and I felt tired. Sleepy.

I closed my eyes holding onto mawile as we became light as a feather and floated. Suspended in a golden void.

"This is not your grave but your salvation heroine. Claim you destiny and write history for us all."
