Set between the end of Season 3 and the start of Season 4, this is a story I conceived while talking with a good friend of mine about the show. I wanted to create a story that had a message of self-worth, one which asked the question, "What makes us who we are? What defines our place and our person in the world?" This question is answered through the experiences of the main character, Aquaferno. A young pegasus mare living in Cloudsdale, she receives an ancient amulet which had been passed down through her family for centuries. It bonds with her, establishing her as "the chosen pony" and giving her mastery over blazing heat and flowing water, being able to create and manipulate them at will. As she further questions the deeper meaning behind this gift, a threat which has remained hidden for centuries arises from the shadows. Princesses Celestia and Luna are the only individuals who know of this evil, and if it is not stopped in time, the whole of Equestria will be enveloped in a hellish plague of apocalyptic proportions...
