It was like any other day at Canterlot College. I was going on to my second year here and I was doing well to say the least. I was a straight A student and had a best friend by the name of Scootaloo. Now I know that is a strange name for a girl, but you can’t make fun of them just because of a name right? So, we’ve been friends since 5th grade! Long time, huh? Well anyways I am 23, 6ft. caucasian, brown hair, green eyes, and light built. I was wearing normal clothes, black t-shirt jean shorts. My best friend Scootaloo or “Scoots” for short was 5 ft 3 in. with purple-ish hair, red eyes, caucasian. She was wearing her normal clothes: orange t-shirt and jeans.
I was walking down the long hallway to my first class as crowds of other people walked past me. The corridor was full of sounds of talking all murmurs unless they were talking just to you. I had the books and binders I would need for all the classes. But when I finally got to my class I saw someone standing there waiting for me. It was Scoots and the funny thing is she hates that name.
“Hey Scoots.” I said waving at her. She immediately looked at me with the death stare she always gave me when I called her that. I just chuckled at this as I was now in front of her. Her stare turned to a happy smile as she quickly gave me a hug with one arm her other occupied with a few books and a binder. I just smiled as I hugged her back with my free arm. She pulled away blushing a little bit. I just chuckled at this.
“Nice to see you again, Scootaloo.” I said.
“Same to you, Kevin.” She replied.
“So, what did you do this past summer?” I asked.
“Oh, I just rode around on my scooter that you got me for Christmas. I’m still surprised that it still works after all these years.”
“Hows Rainbow Dash doing?”
“Good. I was glad that she decided to take me in a few years ago considering what happened.”
“Yeah.”
“So, what happened to you this summer?” She asked me. I just chuckled as I remembered all the things I did. Mostly dumb stuff. From pranking my friends to trying parkour outside my house and ended up almost breaking my neck.
“Well, a lot of things, Scootaloo. But something interesting happened during the summer didn’t it?”
“Yeah....we went to war against North Korea. July 8th 2024. Second time isn’t it?”
“Yep.....sometimes things don’t change. Anyways on a lighter note my dad joined up with the marines. He just got shipped out this morning, too.” I replied with a small smile. Scootaloo smiled back.
“Well that’s good to hear, Kevin. Well, we better get to class it starts soon.”
“We are already here we just have to go sit down.” I said with a smirk. She just giggle quietly as we walked in. There was row after row of chairs all connected it seemed in one big table. We walked inside as the other students started piling in along with us. We managed to get in the middle row closest to the right of the room. Scootaloo sat beside me as we set our stuff down and opened up our books.
“Well looks like it’s time for math again.” Scootaloo groaned.
“What? I like math don’t you?” I asked.
“No and you know I suck at it, Kevin.” I just chuckled.
“Don’t worry, Scoots I will help you tonight if we get work ok?”
“Don’t call me that!....... Fine I guess that will work.” She said looking away from me crossing her arms. I laughed a little at this seeing her act this way. It was always funny.
“Alright, class calm down. It is time to begin.....” The professor dragged on into some random speech I didn’t bother to listen to. First day and i’m already bored of this professer
“This gonna be a long year.” I groaned.

It was the end of the day now and the only homework it seemed we had was in the Math class I was in this morning. Scoots was walking down with me to where the dorms were. Turns out I lived in room B14 while she lived in A14. A coincidence I guess you can say, huh? Anyways as we made our way down we started talking.
“So, Kevin you ever thought of joining up like your dad did?” She asked. I was surprised by this.
“Umm...... I don’t know yet really. I mean I always wanted to Join up since I was like six....but things change I guess. Right now i’m trying to work my way up to become an Electrician. Not much of a future, I guess, but it’s better than nothing, huh?” I replied. Scoots chuckled as we neared my dorm. We already decided that we were gonna hit there first for the work.
“Well i’m working to become a professional pilot so that I can make tricks just like Rainbow Dash did. Before she was in that accident.” Scoots hated to talk about that part. Mainly because she never thought that it would destroy Rainbow Dash the way it did. Turns out when Rainbow was getting ready for a landing in her plane, the gears broke and the plane slid across the ground. Only thing is the plane turned on its side and rolled at least three times. I never thought that she would still be alive let alone the plane didn’t blow up. She did survive but suffered very bad back problems and damage to her left eye do to a pice of glass hitting her. She was blind in that eye making her unable to fly anymore.
“Well i’m sure she’s proud of you for what you are doing, Scootaloo. Trying to take up what she had to leave behind.” I said trying to encourage her. It seemed to work as a small smile crept onto her face.
“Yeah I guess it is, huh? I just hope to make her proud of me is all. Well looks like we’re here, Kevin. Room B14.” We stopped right in front of my door book bags slung over our backs. I took out the keys from my right pocket and opened my door. I walked in allowing Scoots to come in as well. I pointed to the couch as she nodded and walked over. I closed the door behind me as I walked in and sat beside her. I opened my bag as she did the same. We then took out two math books and plopped them on the table in front of us.
“Well ready to get started?” I asked. Scoots just groaned as she nodded.
“Yeah....god why do we have homework on the first day?” She asked. I just chuckled as I said
“This isn’t Middle School or High School. This is the real deal!” Scoots just let out a sigh as she opened the book to the assigned page. I did the same as I looked at all the equations and other math material in the book. I let out a groan of my own.
“Man, now I wish I was back in High School. At least I could understand things there.” I said. Scoots giggled.
“Hey, this isn’t Middle School or High School this is the real thing. Isn’t that what you said?” She asked playfully.
“Yeah, yeah, whatever. Lets just get started and go to bed alright?”
“Alright.” Then with that we worked on the problems.
After a few hours we finally got done what we needed done. It was torture but what can you do? Well, when we got done we decided that we were gonna just lay around till it was time for lights out or something. I flipped on the TV as I flipped through the various channels. I didn’t find anything worthy of watching till Scoots suggested something.
“Why not Twilight?” She asked. I rolled my eyes.
“Oh god you, too?” I groaned playfully.
“What it isn’t that bad is it?”
“No....it’s just my dad likes that movie, too and he got me into it....so yeah.....I guess we can watch it.”
“You have the whole set with you don’t you?”
“Yeah....in my duffle bag. ight zipper.” I said letting out a sigh. Scoots just giggle as she got up and got the whole set of the saga. She then went to the TV and popped in the first movie and sat back down. We began to watch the Movie when sunndely I looked at the clock.
“Holy crap it’s 10:30.” I said surprised.
“So that means I have to go back to my dorm?” Scoots asked.
“Yeah sorry. Come back tommorow or saturday then we can finish the saga then.”
“Ohh....so your asking me on a date?” She asked with a grin. I could feel my face go a little red at this.
“What...well um I wasn’t meaning it like that...but uhh....” She then just busted out laughing.
“BWAHAHAHA I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU FELL FOR THAT!” She wailed in laughter. I just let out a sigh.
“Yeah, yeah, you got me. Now I think you should go.” I said. She slowly stopped laughing and nodded.
“Alright alright that works. But I will be back Saturday to finish this saga with you you know that, right?”
“Yes I do, Scoots.” I got up helping her pack her things and with that she walked out of my dorm and said goodbye. She gave me a quick friendly hug and was off. I just grinned as I closed the door and went to my room. I got out of my old clothes and into some night ones. I just jumped onto the bed and was fast asleep. It was some first day back.

So, i’m walking down the hallway headed to my next class. Then I hear something...”Kevin! Kevin, wait up!” I turned around and saw that it was Scoots running to me. She was wearing an orange t-shirt that had a dragon on it with jean shorts. I was wearing normal clothes, blue t-shirt and jeans. I stopped as she caught up having the same books and binder that she always did. So far Math was the only class that we had homework in. I liked the subject a little bit it’s just that if there wasn’t so much damn homework then I would be fine with it.
“Hey, Scootaloo what’s up?” I asked. We began to walk at the same pace was we talked.
“Oh, nothing much really. These past few days were torture thanks to all the work. Don’t say what you did the first day.” She warned me. I closed my mouth because I was gonna say that.
“Well, it will only get harder, Scoots. I mean this is our second year here.” I said.
“Yeah, you're right.” I was surprised there because she didn’t give me the usual death glare she always did when I called her Scoots. We finally reached class and sat down then the professor droned on about Calculus and all that stuff. Then I heard a knock on the door. The professor walked over and listened to the man then called me over.
“What did you do this time, Kev?”
“I don’t know Scoots. I better go check it out.” I said as I got up and walked over. The professor walked over to the front of the class and resumed teaching.
“Kevin am I correct?” I nodded to him. “I hate to be the bearer of bad news but...” I looked the man up and down he had on a military suit. I immediately knew it was something about my dad.
“What happened to my dad? Did he get shot?” The man looked down sadly and said:
“Your father was a great man, but he died in battle.” I was in utter shock. To tell the truth I didn’t know how to react to this. It felt like I was hit hard in the chest hearing this from someone I didn’t know at all. Now if it was a friend of my dad that would’ve been different. I would’ve broke down right there. I looked behind me doing my best to hold back tears. Scoots was looking at me and had a concern look on her face. I just turned back at the Military soldier in front of me. I wanted answers.
“How did he die?” I asked a small crack in my voice. He let out a sigh as he told me what happened to him.
“Your dad was going to save a marine. He had him over his back and right when he got to where the medic was one of the enemies shot him in his leg....then they nailed him in the back of the head..” I just lowered my head. He asked me if he wanted me to go back to my dorm. I just nodded as I walked down the corridor. All the classes were still in session when I was walking to my dorm. The closer I got to my dorm the closer I came to losing it in public. My eyes began to get watery from the tears that I started to loose control over. I looked up and saw that my dorm was only a few yards away. That’s when I lost control over my tears I tried so hard to hold back. I rushed inside as tears streamed down my face flinging my unlocked door open. I didn’t even bother to close it as I flung myself onto my couch and burst into tears. Then I heard the bell go off. I rushed to the door and closed it then I layed down on my bed and sobbed into my pillow. Then I heard a creak, then a familiar voice said
“What happened?” said Scoots.
“NO! GET OUT!” I yelled not thinking. Scootaloo just calmly walked over to me and sat down.
“What happened? Tell me what that man said!” She demanded. I slowly stopped my crying as there were still tears in my eyes.
“My father is...is...DEAD!” I yelled. She put her hand on my shoulder and said
“I’m sure your dad died in a heroic manner. Did they tell you how it happened?” She asked. I sat up and explained the what happened to him. I wipped my eyes clean of the tears I had. I was trying again to hold them back.
“Well.....the guy said that there was a firefight going on.....he saw that another marine was shot so he went out......and he managed to save him carrying him back to the medic.....but was shot dead just as he got back.......why did this have to happen......why me? What did I do to deserve this?” I began to break down again and in front of Scoots. I don’t know why but that just made me want to cry more. It’s strange how life works I guess. But what happened next surprised me a lot. I felt a pair of arms wrap around me and pull me into an embrace. I knew it was Scoots. She just wrapped her arms around me.
I then began to sob loudly into her shoulder as she held me tightly trying her best to calm me down. She would give an occasional.
“Shhhhh it’s ok....everything will be ok, Kevin.....shhhhh.” I don’t know why but I guess it was just instinct for a girl to do that. Anyways I felt comforted by what Scoots was doing for me. I never felt this way nor did I think she would do this. Just seemed out of character for what she would normally do. After several minutes of her comforting me I finally was calm enough to stop my crying. She pulled me away from the hug and looked into my eyes. She wiped away my tears from my face and had a warm smile. I smiled back as I just pulled her into another hug. She didn’t seem to mind as the hug lasted quiet a long time now. This time I pulled away from the embrace we held and put my arms to my side. She did the same as we began to talk.
“You ok now, Kevin?” She asked. I nodded.
“Yeah i’m doing better now, but I know that it is going to be a long time before I will be able to cope with what happened. I mean I just lost my dad and......we did everything together.” Scootaloo just scooted closer to me and her arm around me. I just put mine around her holding her close. It was hard for me to take this all in still. But if Scoots was beside me and helped me through this then I would be ok with what would happen to me. But there was something else weird about this.....am I just starting to grow feelings for my best friends since 5th grade?

It was now the next day since I learned of my fathers death. I stood outside the recruitment office the afternoon sun high in the sky casting a large shadow from where I stood. I was trying to make the final decision. I was wondering if I should join up or not. I heard on the news that the Korean army was getting past the border and trying to take South Korea back to have all of Korea in their hands. Somehow that was enough for me to walk in and as soon as I did I saw sign up after sign up stations. One for each branch. Air Force, Marines, Rangers, etc. I then made my way to the recruitment for the Marines . When I got there the guy looked up and seemed to look me over.
“You seem like you will do just fine. You here to join up with the Marines?” He asked. I nodded.
“Yeah I am.”
“How old are you?” He asked.
“23.” I replied.
“Alright you are legal to join.” The recruitment officer then gave me the papers I would need to fill out. Some of the papers I recognized, like a birth date form. Most of them had no clue what they were. I grabbed the papers and gave him a nod. I decided to go to the nearest table and started to fill them out.
After about a few hours of filling out the papers I was finally finished. I got up from the table with the huge stack in my hands. I then made my way to the officer and gave him the forms. He nodded and grabbed the stack in my hands.
“Alright well we will get you when we are in a state of emergency. After that you will be sent to bootcamp and sent off to the frontlines.” He said with a small smile. For some reason it freaked me out. I just smiled and nodded as I turned to leave. I left the recruitment center in a hurry wanting to get back to the college. I know it sounds weird but I was mainly going back so that I can watch the Twilight saga with Scoots. Hell I think I was starting to gain feelings for her.
I got into my car and drove to the college. Scoots didn’t know that I was doing this neither did any of the other kids. It took thirty minutes to get back to the college from the center. When I got back I saw that no one was there waiting for me. It was a good sign since it was saturday and there usually isn’t that many kids around outside the college.
I pulled into a parking space and turned off my car. I got out of my car and made my way inside. I then went to my dorm and who other would be waiting there but Scoots herself. She was wearing purple earrings, an orange dress, and orange/purple high heels. I was surprised to see her in this. Where I was wearing my usual shorts and military fatigues T-shirt that my dad got me. Along with the hat that he got me with the marine symbol on it. She saw me and smiled warmly. I just swallowed hard as I made my way to her.
“Hey Kevin how you doing?” She asked the smile not leaving her face.
“I’m doing well.....why are you wearing that?” I asked pointing to the dress she had. It surprised me to see her like this.
“Well, I thought that this was a date!” She laughed. I was surprised by this.
“Well....I didn’t.” I said blushing a little. She just laughed at how my face turned red.
“Oh so you didn’t know that this was a date even though you're the one that invited me to your dorm?” She said with a grin. I was just surprised at what she said. She thought that it was a date where I thought I was just being friendly. Well, I honestly wouldn’t mind if it WAS a date. I just chuckled.
“Well then. Wanna go and watch the saga we had planned or just stand out here?” I asked with a grin. She just giggled as she turned and walked into the open dorm room. I walked in behind her as I closed the door behind us. I quickly then popped in the “Twilight” disc and made my way to Scoots. I sat down beside her as the movie started. Now I don’t know the details (nor did I want to anyway). But while we were watching the movie Scoots scooted closer to me to the point of us almost touching.
I didn’t seem to mind and while we were watching the movie I did the oldest trick in the book. I let out a yawn and stretch as I put my right arm around her on the couch. I could see her blush a little but she didn’t try to shy away. She just leaned against me which again surprised me a little. After awhile she placed one of her hands on my thigh and the other on my chest. I could feel my face get a little red as she did this. Then without warning she suddenly moved so that her face was right in front of mine our faces only a few inches from each other. I could see that her face was bright red as I could feel mine be as red as ever.
“Um...... What now?” I asked. She just kept looking into my eyes as we stared at each other. Then she made the first move. She placed her arms around my neck and closed the small gap between our faces placing her lips against mine. I jumped at first my eyes wide with surprise that she did this. But then I just closed my eyes wrapping my arms around her sides as I kissed back. She then melted into the kiss and slowly pushed me onto the couch so she was ontop of me. The kiss deepened as I felt her push her tongue against my lips. I opened slightly to grant her entrance as she slid her tongue into my mouth. I met her tongue with mine as she let out a quiet moun. She tasted a little like one of those Fire Bombs you get at a candy store. Our tongues wrestled around in each others mouths. I then without knowing began to move my right arm down her body and right before I got to the rim of her dress she broke the kiss. She was panting a little her face still deep red. That’s when I realized what I was doing.
“Not yet Kevin...I wanna wait.” She said moving her face down closer to mine her face an inch away. Every time any of us would talk our lips would brush across each other.
“I’m sorry Scoots. I didn’t know what I was doing. I just got in the mood I guess.” I said. We didn’t even say another word as she dove back in for more. Our lips connected and immediately our tongues met and moved around each other. We only felt not wrestle at all as our tongues explored one another's mouths. She let out another quiet moan while we made out. Several minutes passed until she broke away again catching her breath as was I.
“It’s getting late I think.” I said. Scoots then looked at the clock and nodded.
“Yeah it’s 10:00 PM.” She said then looking down at me.
“Wanna go to bed?” I said. She nodded with a blush getting off of me. I got up as we walked to my bedroom. She opened the door and I walked in closing it behind me. When I turned it back around I saw that Scoots was already on the bed laying down under the covers. I just walked over and crawled into bed with her. I got under the covers and she just quickly wrapped her arms around me holding me close in an embrace. I just wrapped my arms around her holding her close.
“So, you know this doesn’t mean for any funny business got it?” She said. I just smiled.
“Yeah I get it.” I replied. That’s when she suddenly pulled me into a deep kiss. Her tongue wasted no time entering my mouth. I did the same my tongue moving around in her mouth. The taste was the same as before. But without warning she pulled away just as things seemed to be getting good.
