Growing Up

By now it has been six more years. This facade, in total, has gone on for twelve, but I was enjoying it. I loved Egas and Sage, they were my little family, and the love they gave off was like drugs to me. Even if I didn't love them both I couldn't leave this family.

Sage was still a foal, and therefore he was going to school. He even made a friend on his first day. She was a little foal named Cheerilee.

I see the look in your eyes. You know this pony. She is the current Ponyville schoolteacher, all grown up. You seem to forget that with the power of love, I live forever.

So it was halfway through the school year when the first ever problem with Sage arrived. A bully.

Sage walked up to me, shoulders drooping, eyes on the verge of tears. I asked him who had brought on such a huge sadness, and he pointed at a colt across the yard.

He was the first one in class to get his cutie mark, and he was bullying my son. I walked over to him.

"Are you bullying my son?"

"Whasit to you?" He replied.

"You need to stop." Glaring at me, he spoke.

"Why don't you make me, grandma." He said, a snide look on his face.

I used my horn. He was enveloped in green energy as I threw him across the yard and into the ground. Walking up calmly, I whispered in his ear: "Stay the fuck away from my son."

We never had problems with the bully again.

Nothing really happened after that for a while. The bully kept his distance, and Sage and Cheerilee always played together, in my home and at her's, and in school they sat next to each other and did projects together. She was good to my son. They were an amazing pair.

When he was a teenager we had a new problem. He wasn't rebellious or getting into cider and drugs and sex or anything like that, it was with the bully.

I didn't know at the time, but the bully had a gang of friends, and one night they cornered my son. I just... felt like something was wrong. I left the house and followed my instincts.

Bursting through some bushes, I saw a hoof hit Sage in the face. That was all the provocation I needed to do what I did.

I stepped forward, my horn glowing angrily.

"Oh look." The bully said. "It's Sage's mommy. Guess we better leave guys." He said jokingly.

"I already warned you once." I boomed. "It's too late now."

I picked up the bully and sent him flying. He slammed into a tree, which broke and fell on him. Blood sprayed from under the tree across the grass. His friends went to run.

"NO YOU DON'T!" I screamed, taking hold of a tree with my powers and sending it to the ground. The only way out now was behind me, and they knew I would kill them.

I shot a beam of green energy out of the tip of my horn, and it burned through one of their chests. He fell to the ground, blood leaking out of the open hole. I fired the beam again, and decapitated the final opponent.

My son looked at me. He was safe, but he just... didn't trust me.

"Son." I said to him.

"W - what mom..."

"You cannot tell a soul what happened here." I told him. "Not even Dad."
