Alive. Somehow someway, she was alive. And what's more she was alive and walking around in Canterlot, dawning a new chapter into a reformed life. Nightmare Moon could hardly believe it as she walked through the halls of Canterlot, thinking of how she had earned this new chance at life.
"I still can't even believe it. Even after what I have done they're willing to help me better myself" the dark being said in disbelief as she remembered Celestia and Luna accepting her.
"Oh come now Moony! If they could accept someone like me reforming they could accept the big bad Nightmare Moony!" Nightmare stopped and growled out turning her head to see none other than discord, in his ridiculous mix matched outfit.
"Discord, why does a fool like you still have to exist in the first place?" the dark blue almost black skinned woman looked to the man who almost seemed to be stitched together.
"Oh come now Moony you don't mean that! After all I used to make you laugh and smile with my tricks and chocolate milk!" he said snapping his fingers as a glass of said substance appeared in his hand. He offered her the glass which Nightmare glared daggers, but accepted. "There see? There's nothing wrong with accepting a drink from a friend!" Nightmare just ignored him as she sipped at the cold chocolatey beverage.
"So other then trying to befriend me with sweet drinks, is there something I can help you with?" she asked raising an eyebrow.
"Oh yes there is actually! I was actually wondering how you came back or even got your own body in the first place!" Discord proceeded to float in the air above her resting his hands against his chin leaning forwards.
"Why not ask Celestia or Luna? They could tell you better than I could" Nightmare rose an eyebrow as she looked to the strange being.
"Oh but it's not as fun bothering them as it is you! You have better reactions!" Nightmare growled out gritting her teeth at the god of chaos. "There see?! Just like that one!"
"Fine if it'll get you to shut up!" she sighed in frustration. "Apparently the Elements of Harmony not only purged me from Princess Luna, but pushed me out of her completely, creating a body for me and everything" she began and Discord just listened nodding his head.
"Though it wasn't until months later I was even found, in a sort of suspended animated state in Everfree Castle. Luna had come as well to see if it was true, and she even went to touch me. When she did, it awoke me, and gave me my portion of powers back. The power over nightmares...and dreams" Nightmare continued looking again to discord, who now had a bag of popcorn in his hands.
"And now you know the rest. I wish to reform and eventually earn a new name other than Nightmare Moon, after all people don't need know the monster under the bed still exists" nightmare finished, though Discord just sat there continuing to just stare at her and eat his popcorn. She growled out in frustration from his annoyance
"That's all there is so stop that annoying crunching!" She growled out as her green eyes glowed in anger.
"Oh calm down it's just a snack! And That's honestly kind of a boring story, hoping for more action, adventure, maybe even romance!" he chuckled out causing the woman to role her eyes.
"I will never understand you Discord" she said turning to walk away from him.
"It's easier than you think it is!" Discord called out as she walked away frustrated. "Hmmm...maybe she needs to get laid" he chuckled before disappearing.
Nightmare however continued her walk through the gardens, enjoying the peace and quiet now that a certain chaotic god was gone. Nightmare then sat down and looked around at her peaceful surrounding. she took in the birds chirping and the animals chattering around her. As she sat there, a squirrel had even hopped up next to her and looked up to her. She looked down curiously, and even reached out to touch it, but the creature ran from her, scampering off.
"RUN! It's Nightmare Moon! She's come for us!" she shivered suddenly hearing those voices in her head.
"You have nowhere to run! Suffer in eternal Nightmare!"
Nightmare hugged herself as she tried to push those memories away, remembering the pain and suffering she caused so man others.
"No...never again will I be that monster" Nightmare swore to herself, standing up as she prepared to leave the garden. When she turned to leave though, she froze hearing a voice call out.
"LOOK OUT!" as Nightmare turned she gasped as suddenly a yellow and grey blur crashed right into her, gasping as she fell backwards from the impact. Not only was Nightmare in shock, but another emotion began to fill her and her face began to become a shade of red as she realized this attackers face was right in between her exposed large cleavage. The person who had attacked her however quickly got up off of her back peddling a few steps.
"I-I'm so sorry I didn't mean to crash into you like that it was an accident!" the voice came but Nightmare's embarrassment was soon being replaced by anger as she flew up off of the ground.
"YOU! HOW DARE YOU CRASH INTO ME YOU...! You..." Nightmare began, though she froze suddenly as she looked at who had crashed into her. First off, it was a she, one Nightmare had to actually stop and look at for a few seconds to take all of her in. Secondly, she was caught off by her eyes. How they were pointed two different directions, but just made her look...Adorable! Nightmare thought she'd never say that but they did!
"Um...are you ok?" Nightmare however was thrown from her thoughts however as she heard her talk. The grey skinned, yellow eyed, winged girl was also looking at her concerned. Concerned for her well being! Not to mention she could see this girl wasn't stricken with fear! Of all the people she had run into they all immediately recognized her, and feared her. This wall-eyed beauty however didn't! Wait...Beauty?
"O-Oh, yes I'm fine I'm fine" NIghtmare assured her as she composed herself. "Please forgive my outburst, you caught me off guard" she said apologetically. Maybe it's because I don't wear the armor anymore?
"Ah, it's ok I'm kinda used to it" the mystery girl responded with a smile. "These screwed up things get me into trouble all the time" she said pointing to her eyes.
"They are not screwed up! They're gorgeous!" Nightmare blurted out, causing Derpy to almost go straight eyed in shock at what she said, Nightmare however quickly composed herself trying to hide her blush. "Sorry I shouldn't have said that, you must be self conscious about them."
"No it's...fine. No one's really said that about them before" she admitted with a chuckle. "Oh! Look at me just chatting with a royal like you without even properly introducing myself! I'm Derpy!" she smiled extending her hand for Nightmare to take.
"It's very nice to meet you Derpy I'm...Dreamweaver" Nightmare lied, not wanting her to know who was quite yet. Maybe...this could be a fresh start? A friend?
"That's a lovely name for a lovely lady" Derpy grinned causing Nightmare to blush and smile. "Oh! Before I forget I'm here to deliver a package to the princesses!" Derpy held out a package. "I'm so sorry to run like this but I'm running late delivering to the next stop!" before Derpy could go however Nightmare snatched the package from her and smiled.
"If you are running late then let me assist you. I personally know the Princesses and will gladly drop off your package for you" Nightmare smiled bowing to her.
"R-really you will?! Thanks Dreamweaver! You have no idea how much this helps me!" Derpy smiled hugging Nightmare, who once again was caught completely off guard and blushing.
"It's no problem really. Just promise me the next time you come to Canterlot come visit me" Nightmare smiled as Derpy let her go.
"Oh! Better yet here!" Derpy quickly pulled out a paper and pencil from her mail pouch. Then she quickly scribbled down some numbers, handing it to Nightmare who looked to the paper confused. "It's my phone number! Call me later and we can talk more!" Derpy smiled before lifting into the air. "But for now I gotta go deliver the package and thanks again for saving me!" Derpy called out before taking off into the air. Nightmare just waved and watched her go, before looking to the paper in her hand.
"What's...a phone number?" she asked herself not quite sure how this number would help her.
Celestia and Luna had been sitting in the dining room together, enjoying another meal together and chatting about none other then their newest resident.
"Can you believe Luna? First Discord reforms then Nightmare Moon! Maybe we could even turn Chrysalis!" Celestia giggled as she ate her meal looking to the blue skinned monarch.
"Honestly with how things have been I wouldn't doubt it. Anything seems possible if Discord and Nightmare Moon can change for the better" Luna smiled shaking her head. "Though Tia I'm concerned. Nightmare is like myself, she is missing out on the last thousand years and not up to date with everything current! It might be too much for her, especially the technology" Luna said pulling out her own smartphone to check a message she got from Princess Twilight.
"I know, I was thinking the same thing" Celestia sighed. "Though not many people would be willing to help the once feared Nightmare Moon. After all she still has a negative image over the land and many fear just her name" Celestia sighed out as she thought of the repercussions if they asked just anybody to help her.
"It's almost as if we would need to find someone who had no idea who she was seeing her in order for someone to help her" Luna suggested and Celestia nodded.
"Even the Elements of Harmony would struggle..." Celestia furrowed her eyebrows as she brought her fingers to her chin. Just as she did though Nightmare Moon herself walked in head held high in pride and elegance as she strode to the table.
"Celestia I believe this package is for you" she said placing it before the solar monarch. Celestia however was shocked seeing her bring the package and present it to her.
"Oh ho? The great Nightmare Moon lowering her standards and bringing me mail? I'm shocked!" Celestia teased in fake astonishment.
"I only did this to help a new friend I made" both Celestia and Luna froze at those words looking at Nightmare dumbfounded.
"YOU MADE A FRIEND?!" both of them exclaimed causing Nightmare to jump but glare at the two of them.
"What?! Yes I made a friend! The mail mare who brought the package! Well, we only talked for a few minutes and said we'd like to see each other again, but I consider that the beginning of friendship" Nightmare admitted as she held out the note with the numbers on it. "Also...what's a phone number? Apparently Derpy said I could use it to contact her" Celestia and Luna jaw-dropped as they heard all this, and began to take in everything Nightmare had said. It was as if their answer had fallen from heaven and presented itself like Nightmare had presented that package for Celestia.
"It seems we have the answer to our solution dear sister!" Luna grinned as she suddenly pulled out her smart phone and her fingers immediately began to dial in her phone. "Jasper! We need you up here with a new phone line asap!" Nightmare looked to her confused and Luna just had a big grin on her face. "Don't worry we'll explain everything!" Luna said before giving the man on the phone all the details. Nightmare was just lost and wondering why Luna was talking into the small device but knew she would get her answers soon enough.
After a few minutes someone had walked in with another of those devices Luna had and began to talk with her. He had brown skin and green hair, and occasionally would throw a fearful look to Nightmare Moon, who just glared at the man. Soon though Luna cheered in excitement as the man said the new phone was ready to use.
"You're the best Jasper! Come here Nightmare!" Luna grabbed and dragged Nightmare over to the device.
"Don't just grab me like that!" Nightmare growled out as she wrestled her arm out of Luna's grip when they got to the device on the table.
"Ok so Nightmare, this is a phone" Luna presented. "This is how you can contact your friend Derpy! First off though you're going to use it to contact Celestia and myself to start you off" Nightmare nodded trying to understand. Luna luckily only taught her of phone calls, not overwhelming her with text messages and the great and powerful internet yet.
"I...think I understand. So it's a device used to contact anyone if you have their phone number? So I have yours, Celestia's, and Derpy's so I can contact you?" she asked raising an eyebrow.
"Yes! and so that we can contact you!" Luna explained and smiled. "Ok, no go on ahead and try to give one of us a call" Nightmare nodded as she grabbed the device, remembering what Luna had taught her. she went and dialed in the number for Celestia and pressed call. When she did Celestia's phone soon went off and she pulled it out talking into it.
"Hello there proud new owner of a cell phone" she said causing nightmare to gasp.
"Amazing! What's it's range? Will it reach my friend?" she asked and Luna nodded.
"Yup! Give it a try!" Nightmare nodded as she pulled out Derpy's number. She actually felt nervous as she was about to type it in and call, though pushed her fears aside moving her fingers across the screen. She then put the device up to her ear and it rang twice before the other end picked up.
"Hello?" Nightmare smiled hearing Derpy's voice on the other end.
"Derpy! Hi it's Dreamweaver! I just got this new phone device and wanted to talk to you!" Nightmare exclaimed happily, both Luna and Celestia raising their eyebrows hearing the name.
"Dreamweaver! I didn't expect you to call so soon! Luckily I'm on lunch though, you said it's a new phone? cool! What kind?" she asked.
"U-Um...I'm not sure. Princess Luna got it for me."
"Seriously?! Oh I'm so jealous! I bet it's like the coolest thing ever! Probably a Galaxy Note 5 or something!" Derpy said excitedly over the line. "You gotta let me take a look at it when we hang out sometime!" Derpy said causing Nightmare to tilt her head.
"Hang out?"
"Yeah! You know spend time together! Get know one another! You'd like to hang out and be friends wouldn't you?" NIghtmare smiled as heard Derpy through the small device next to her ear.
I-It truly is a second chance! A friend!
"I'd love to" Nightmare smiled as the thought permeated her. "Maybe I can bring you to the castle for the first time we 'hang out'?" Nightmare said smiling as she used the phrase.
"That sounds awesome! Oh hey I gotta go now but call me later and we'll arrange when I should get there and stuff ok?" Derpy responded causing Nightmare to smile once more.
"Oh all right. I will speak to you later then Derpy."
"Bye Dreamweaver!" the other end of the line clicked off and Nightmare Moon cut off her end, smiling at the thoughts in her friend.
"Well well well! Someone really is opening up to the world!" She stopped and turned to Celestia who had a wicked grin on her face.
"See? I told you I made a friend!" Nightmare huffed as she lifted her head. "Now if you excuse me I have to go and find out more and prepare for when my friend will come over and 'hang out'" Nightmare said once more, smiling to herself as she said the phrase then walked out of the dining room.
"We are so going to talk to this Derpy girl" Celestia smiled looking to Luna.
"Don't bombard her with some huge responsibility! It seems like she legitimately wants to be her friend!" Luna warned her sister.
"Oh I won't! After all Nightmare would hate me if I ruined her little friendship" she chuckled as she grabbed the almost forgotten package. She then opened it reveal a cake inside just for her. "Nothing beats the Sugarcube Corner" she grinned as she licked her lips.
Meanwhile walking down the hallway, Nightmare smiled to herself, thinking in her head over and over again.
A friend...A friend!...I have a friend!
She hadn't been this happy in a long time, in fact she couldn't remember ever being this happy!
She won't be your friend long...not when she learns who you truly are.
Nightmare froze hearing that voice, shivering as memories of who she used to be flashed through her head.
Not since you still are a Nightmare!
