Chapter 1

“Filled with Regret”

It had been a few days since Lord Tirek nearly became the supreme God of Equestria.  Thanks to the efforts of Princess Twilight Sparkle and her friends, the demonic centaur was stripped of all the magic he had stolen from unicorns, Pegasus, earth and alicorn ponies and returned to the dark and damning prison known as Tatarus, which was guard by Princess Celestia’s loyal three headed dog, Cerberus.

But, the rampage that Tirek had caused could have been easily avoided had not a certain creature of chaos disobeyed the highest ranking leaders of Equestria and betrayed them to the side of Tirek.  Discord was personally chosen by Princess Celestia to go after Tirek and recapture him without any problems at all.  Instead, he did the unthinkable and turned to Tirek’s side, when the demonic centaur promised him to cause chaos of his own accord if he would help him steal the magic from the ponies who inhabited Equestria.

It was a mistake of his that proved extremely costly and led to the period of Equestria's darkest hour.

Now, as he sat on a hill overlooking one of the valleys near Fluttershy’s cottage, Discord deeply regretted all of his actions and knew deep down that he would have to face his superiors and explain his actions to them.  However, Discord feared of the consequences he would have to face if the princesses would not believe what he would say.

“Discord,” called a timid voice and the Draconequs turned around to see a yellow Pegasus with long pink hair flying towards him.  “You’ve been up here for a long time, now.  Is everything all right?”

Discord turned away from looking out at the valley and looked down upon his closest friend, trying to smile, but he couldn’t bring himself to do so.

“Um, yes, my dear Fluttershy,” he replied sheepishly, producing a pair of binoculars.  “I was just taking advantage of watching Celestia lower the sun and Luna raising the moon.  It sure is nice when you think about it.”

“Are you sure?” asked Fluttershy, seeing that Discord was hiding something from her.  “Tell me the truth. It’s about the mistake you made, isn’t it?”

Knowing that his cover was slightly blown, Discord took in a heavy sigh and produced a screen of the moment that he betrayed Fluttershy and the rest of Twilight’s friends to Tirek.  Seeing her cry in that cage made Fluttershy cringe slightly.

“That’s what has been on my mind, Fluttershy,” said Discord, sadly.  “I’ve been thinking about what I have done to everypony in Equestria and what I should have done.  Princess Celestia trusted me to find Tirek and return him to Tartarus without any problems.  Instead, I could not only be risking my friendship with you, Fluttershy, but also all the princesses and Twilight.”

“Why would Twilight be upset at you?” wondered Fluttershy, placed a hoof on Discord’s lion paw.  “She was grateful that you gave her the last key to open that chest that got her the castle.”

“I know,” replied Discord, knowing that this all did come with a very heavy price.  “But, don’t you see, Fluttershy?  I also caused Twilight to lose her library and everything she ever had inside it.  There’s no question in my mind that I could end on trial in Canterlot.”

To prove his point, Discord snapped his fingers and stood before Fluttershy dressed in an orange prison uniform.

“Don’t you see?” continued Discord, snapping the uniform away.  “I could be tried for treason, Fluttershy.  Princess Celestia would like nothing more than to see me turned to stone again or worse, end up in Tartarus.”

Fluttershy could see that something was indeed amiss with this situation that Discord was putting himself in.  In her mind, she could see that Discord was nothing more than being overreactive to the situation.

“Don’t you think you are maybe just overreacting, Discord?” suggested Fluttershy, trying to calm him down.  “If you’d just tell the princesses that you are sorry…”

“They won’t accept that!” cried Discord, who was starting to turn white with nerves.  “If I told them that I was sorry, then they won’t believe me and it’s ‘Bye, Bye, Discord.’”

Discord then turned away from Fluttershy and looked back out towards the valley, where he saw Princess Luna, who was already on her night watch for any signs of her subjects having nightmares.

“Princess Luna’s probably thinking that I caused all those ponies nightmares because of my mistake,” remarked Discord, who then produced a casket and he laid down in it, almost as if he was going to die.  “I’m a monster, Fluttershy!  A monster that needs to be put back into a prison of stone!"

“Now, that’s enough!” cried Fluttershy, firmly pulling Discord out of the casket and talking to him like a stern mother, using her stare technique to make Discord pay attention to what she had to say.  “Now, you listen to me, Discord! I know that you betrayed Equestria by joining forces with Tirek.  But, you also learned the true meaning of friendship and how it is valuable more than anything in Equestria.  All you have to do is explain to the princesses why you did what you did and they will probably go easy on you.”

Discord was trying to look away, thinking that he wanted nothing to do with this.  But, Fluttershy opened her eyes and stared right into Discord’s eyes, submitting him to her will.

“If you say so, Fluttershy,” replied Discord.

“I know I say so,” replied Fluttershy, back.  “You are just being very hard on yourself and thinking that you just going to be punished severely.  I know you, Discord and I am sure everypony, including the princesses, will forgive you eventually.”

Discord wanted deep down to find a way to atone for his actions, but he wasn't sure how.
