In The Morning I'll Call You
Noteworthy was tired. Very, very tired. Tired, in fact, that he found himself rubbing the sleep out of his eyes as he sat up in his bed, one hoof rushing to his gaping mouth to stifle the expected yawn. Nipping loudly, his head scanned the room he was in, the familiar feeling of the winter air creeping in through the open windows. Shivering slightly, he shook his head vigorously, as if to dispel the uncomfortable bite of the cold draft.
Peering back over to the windows, he made a promise to fix them as soon as possible.
Throwing the covers off himself, he rolled over completely, his hooves making contact with the wooden floor below. Yawning once again, he scratched his neck idly, taking a moment to stretch his body and pop any bones necessary for today's endeavors. This whole process taking less than five minutes, Noteworthy quickly found himself turning his head to gaze over to his bed once more.
Noteworthy was tired. Very, very tired, but today was not the day to laze around and do nothing. There was food to be made. There were things to be collected. And, as he watched the large lump underneath the blankets move slightly, he remembered he also had somepony to take care of. Chuckling, he gave a soft smile, returning to the side of his bed. The large lump moved once again, groaning at nothing in particular and seeming to roll over in the bed. Noteworthy grinned deeply as he brought a hoof up. Inching it toward the lump, he held the hoof barely a hair's width away, before promptly booping the lump.
It seemed to growl, almost like a dog, but succeeding in the manner of a sick puppy. The lump noticed this, and suddenly brought out a weapon: a gray hoof that swatted at Noteworthy to no avail, only reaching the area of space nearest him. The weapon remained in midair for two of Noteworthy's heartbeats, before giving up and collapsing on the bed-sheets, accompanied by a prolonged sigh.
Noteworthy sucked in his cheeks, glancing about the room almost nervously. Golden irises darted from left to right, before peering back down at the bed. Biting his lower lip ever so slightly, he brought his hoof up once again and patted its grey cousin on the mattress, a smile returning to Noteworthy's lips. Remaining like this for awhile, he drew his hoof and placed it on the wooden floor by the rest of his forelegs, and, turning tail, began to leave the room. He about crossed the threshold when his thoughts crossed the path of the bed lump, and so he placed a hoof against the light switch, turned his head, and whispered a quick farewell.
He walked out, not needing a reply.
Trotting through the house, he realized what all needed to be done today: food, drink, accommodations. He had to do it all. Oh, and the windows. He couldn't forget the windows. He made the check list in his mind and made sure to actually check it this time. He had forgotten to do so many times before, and had many times come back Home with many things left out, finding himself subjected to many a sassy jabbing at. Giving a low snort, he told himself that he wouldn't let it happen this time.
This time was different, and this time was important.
He stepped past the kitchen; he didn't need to eat.
He stepped past the living room; he didn't need to relax.
What he needed was to get out and retrieve what was on his check list, one at a time so as to not mess anything up. This had to be perfect.
