//-------------------------------------------------------// Twilight Attempts To Write A Musical -by TheSorcerersApprentice- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Pre-Writing Stage //-------------------------------------------------------// Pre-Writing Stage It was a beautiful day in Ponyvile. The birds were singing, the flowers were blooming and everypony stepped out to great each other. Among those ponies, was Twilight Sparkle, the resident allicorn princess and bookworm. Seeing this, all the ponies made way for the princess and scrambled into a line. To Twilight's surprise, they began to sing. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iG7jEmZu1Wo) "Twilight Sparkle walked down the lane. Twilight Sparkle walked." The ponies sang as Twilight stared in bewilderment. Twilight walked over to the local hay burger stand. Out popped a light green mare, who ran the stand. "Twilight Sparkle ain't very fat. Twilight Sparkle ain't!" The mare said as she avoided Twilight's glare. "Twilight Sparkle is very pretty. Twilight Sparkle is..." Sang a light blue mare in a black cloak softly. "Twilight Sparkle is our princess!" The citizens sang in unison as Twilight slowly backed away into her castle. "And whatever is good, she does!" Twilight then proceeded to slam the door, nervously. She sighed with relief as she lay on the door. The next thing she knew, Pinkie Pie, her eccentric friend, was standing above her. Twilight yelped as the pink pony opened up her mouth to sing. "Twilight Sparkle has a best friend! Twilight Sparkle does!" Pinkie sang. "Pinkie did you...WAH!" Twilight screamed as Pinkie picked her up and swang her around like a rag doll. "Twilight Sparkle has fun with Pinkie! Twilight Sparkle does!" "Pinkie! You're beginning to sound like Tri-" "Twilight Sparkle was very smart!" Pinkie sang as she patted Twilight's horn twice, much to Twilight's displeasure.. "Twilight Sparkle was!" "Pinkie, what's going..." "Twilight Sparkle is a princess! And whatever is good, she does!" "Pinkie, you know how I don't like to be called a pr-" "We are all the elements! We do heroic things! That's what it's all about! We have some fun adventures and some action, for sure! And when there's a problem we go out!" "Yeah sure, but what does th-" "Now we all are happy! And everyone in Equestria is too! 'Cause Twilight Sparkle is a princess! And whatever is good, we do!" Pinkie sang as she ended her song. She bowed with her only applause being a blank stare from Twilight. "Nice song, huh!? I thought of it today and shared it with everypony! I wanted to show it to you and I got everypony to sing along!" Pinkie said proudly. "It certainly is catchy." Twilight admitted. "Yuh-huh! Well, I better get back to Sugarcube Corner! We're opening pretty soon and I don't wanna be late. See ya later, Twi!" Pinkie said as she raced out the door. "Bye, Pinkie!" Twilight said as Pinkie closed the door. "Well that was weird, but then again, it is Pinkie Pie." Twilight chuckled. "Still, Ponyvile has been singing a lot more than usual. And that's coming from me!" "Twilight, are you talking to yourself again?" Spike said as he sleepily walked downstairs. "Spike!?" Twilight said as she turned her head to the baby dragon. "I didn't know you were awake." "I'm not." Spike groaned. "So, what's been bugging you, Twi?" "Remember that time on the day we went to the Crystal Empire when you and I just randomly burst into song?" Twilight said, waving her hooves. "Yeah. That was...weird." Spike said, scratching his head. "I've been wondering, is there some kind of sickness that causes this? Is there some kind of poison joke we've all been exposed to? Are we all just characters in...some kind of movie or play?" "I guess everypony just likes to sing." Spike said, shrugging. "But Spike, we can't just shrug this off!" Twilight scoffed. "Look, if you're so interested in music, why don't you make a musical yourself?" Spike joked. Twilight thought about it for a moment and then got a brilliant idea. "You're absolutely right, Spike! I should make my own musical!" Twilight exclaimed. "But I was only being sarcastic..." Spike murmured. But it was too late. Twilight had already gotten out a quill and ink. She leaned over her candlelit desk and thought of what exactly to write. "Now...where to begin." Twilight thought aloud. "I dunno. At the beginning, that's a very good place to start." Spike suggested. "Yes, but what should my musical be about?" Twilight asked. "You got me." Spike said. "Why don't you ask your friends?" "Great idea, Spike." Twilight said as she rubbed Spike's head. "But I think I'll write a little bit before I show it to them." Twilight picked up her quill and started writing. Twilight wrote of little red-haired filly. She walked over to a lamppost and leaned against it. The filly let out a heavy sigh and looked up to the sky. "Can't do nothing about...my sorrow. All I do is holler 'bout my sorrow. Till I'm done. I whine all about...my sorrow. I'll do it till I get what I want, fast not slow. And I have fun." The filly sang. The filly overdramatically put her hoof over her head. She then turned and revealed her true nature. She started kicking rocks violently. "I don't want to wait! I'm great! And lovely! Soon I will win! And then I'll say...." The filly cackled. "Everypony but me, will have sorrow! Could care less for the ponies who have sorrow! To this day! No sorrow! No sorrow! I will have no sorrow! Everything will go my way! Oh! No sorrow! No sorrow! I will have...no sorrow! Everything will go...my....waaaaaaaaayyy!" The filly sang as she flung herself around the lamppost. When stopped spinning, a puppy came her way. The filly went over to pet it. Unfortunately it had rabies and the filly was taken to the hospital for evil orphans. The End "What the hay was that?" Applejack questioned. //-------------------------------------------------------// Do'h Re Mi //-------------------------------------------------------// Do'h Re Mi "No seriously, what the hay was that?" Applejack asked once more as Twilight held her scroll with the musical on it to her. "Well...it's my musical!" Twilight said sheepishly. "Not to be rude or anything, sugarcube, but maybe you should leave musicals to the professionals." Applejack suggested. "Applejack, have you noticed how much ponies have been singing? With this, I might be able to figure out the psychology of the ponies!" Twilight explained. "Twi, you're acting like singing is some kind of disease! I reckon everypony loves a good tune every once and a while." Applejack said as a band of protesters passed by Twilight and Applejack's path. They held large signs with red letters. "There are no griffons in Equestria! And the roads are paved with hay! Yes there are no griffons in Equestria! So throw your distress away!" The protesters sang to anypony who came their way. "Some more than others..." Applejack murmured with a annoyed expression. "Look Twi, you and I both know this town ain't normal compared to others. And that's okay. But if you really want to do this, I'll help." "You will!?" Twilight said with glee. "Ain't that what friends are for?" Applejack said with a grin. Applejack then looked more carefully at the scroll. She then put it down on a nearby bench. "Twilight, no offense but this looks more like the idea for a comic strip than a musical. Let's try somethin' else." Applejack said as she threw away the scroll away in a nearby garbage can. Twilight put her front hoof up in protest but it was too late. She slowly put her hoof down sadly. "Now, how about...a story where a spell goes haywire and devastates Equestria. But see, there's these shelters called 'stables' and everypony is safe there! But later on, somepony gets curious and goes outside! A-" Applejack brainstormed. "Applejack, that doesn't sound much like a musical to me." Twilight said, raising an eyebrow. "Yeah, I guess you're right, Twilight. Who'd want to read a story like that anyways!" Applejack said, blushing. "Now, how bout a story about fillies who learn how to sing!" "That's a great idea, Applejack! I'll write it up in a jiffy!" Twilight said, trotting away to her castle. "But Twi, you can't just write a musical in a day!" Applejack yelled to her friend. "Now! Let's see...oh I know!" Twilight said as she got an idea. A white unicorn mare with a blonde mane stood over a couple of fillies. The mare then proceeded to sing. The children were eager to listen. "Let's begin with the very first basics. That's the most important part." The mare sang. "With mathematic equations you begin with 123! With music you go do re mi and in some cases you have a flat or a sharp and that could basically screw you all over big time so be careful!" The mare sang as she prolonged the verse. The fillies all had confused looks on their faces. "Do. You must do what I tell you. Re! You must do what I said again. Mi! Electron bending energies! Fa! Factor analysis!" The mare sang while the fillies looked to each other in confusion. "So! Second-order logic in descriptive complexity. La! Landscape architecture! Ti! Thermal instability! Which brings us back to Do!" The mare sang cheerfully. "So! What do you think, Rarity?" Twilight said as she showed her musical to her friend. "Well darling, I...just don't think I understood anything in that song." Rarity said, trying her best to be nice. "What!? But it was such a beautiful and touching song!" Twilight said, exasperated. "Yes, yes. I'm sure you would think it would be, what about all the other ponies who don't have a clue?" Rarity said. "So what would you do to make it better?" Twilight retaliated. "Well for starters, I'd ditch the whole, 'teach fillies how to sing', thing and pick a more...interesting idea..."
