Wubs on Hearts and Hooves
Well this sucks.
Every couple was out on the dance floor, enjoying each other's company on Hearts and Hooves Day. And here i am, sitting alone at an empty bar. I sighed wistfully, then a grey unicorn stallion wearing shades took the seat next to me.
"Sup," he greeted, barely audible over through the loud music that literally shook the building.
"Oh, hey," i muttered. He remained silent for a moment.
"Why aren't you with your mare friend?" he asked.
"I...don't exactly have one." i said, glancing up at the DJ stand, where DJ Pon-3 was rocking the club. The way the lights reflected off her shades, the bobbing of her head to the beat as her mane glittered, plus her toned body, made my heart rate quicken.
"Ooh, i see." The stallion's voice snapped me out of my trance. I looked back at the mile-wide smile he had on his face. "Got your eye on Vinyl, eh?" My cheeks warmed up and i looked away.
"Erm...no, i don't." I lied. He chuckled.
"Well, your wings say otherwise," he gestured to my wings, which were as stiff as a board.
"Oh! Well, um.." I forced my wings to fold down, then sighed in defeat. "Ok, So...i may have had a huge crush on her for as long as I've known her." The stallion nodded.
"Thought so, what's your name?" he asked.
"Blue Beatz."
"Name's Neon Lights," he tipped his shades, "I want to help you out," he offered. I frowned.
"Why?"
"I don't like to see ponies alone, especially on Hearts and Hooves." I sighed, glancing up at Vinyl again.
"Alright, how can you help me?" I asked, he brought a hoof to his chin and studied me.
"Hmm...first, we should make you look more...presentable, just follow me to the bathroom." i raised an eyebrow.
"What?"

I was absolutely speechless. Black streaks were painted across my hot pink mane and tail, black tattoos were plastered everywhere on my blue coat. Along with a black streak across my blue eyes to look like i was a rock star, i was wearing some sort of spiked metallic shoulder pads and my wings were covered in armor. The only thing that didn't change was my cutie mark, which was a single bass note. Neon Lights beamed.
"Perfect!" He exclaimed excitedly.
"This, is stupid." I said, turning my body to get a better view on the star tattoos.
"What? Come on, dude, you look awesome!" I turned my gaze from the mirror and glared at him.
"No, i don't, why do you even have this?"
"One of my band members used to wear that, he looked like a beast in that thing." I tugged at my shoulder spikes.
"You honestly think she'll like this?" I asked, he nodded.
"Trust me, she'll totally dig it," his horn glowed and i was being pushed out by his magic. "Now, come on! Go out and show her your outfit." He pushed me all the way next to the bar. I looked back at him, he was smiling excitedly and making a motion with his hoof that said, 'Go on.' I sighed and slowly shuffled towards the private staircase that led up to the DJ's stand, trying not to get any pony's attention . My face is already hot with embarrassment, if Vinyl ends up laughing i might just faint.
I slowly made my way up stairs, my shoulder spikes kept clanking and bumping against the wall, making this more excruciatingly painful to go through with. By the time i got to the top of the stairs, i was almost ready to call quits. I hid behind the speakers as i watched Vinyl rocking out, sweat trickled down my face and i felt more and more nervous as time passed. I waited for the next mix to start, then i tapped her shoulder. She lifted one side of her headphones off her ear.
"Yeah?" She asked.
"Um...Vinyl, it's me, Blue." I said. Here it goes.
"Oh! Hey, Blue," she set the mixer to 'shuffle,' then set her headphones around her neck. "So, what do you..." She turned around to face me and froze mid-sentence. Her jaw dropped as she looked at my getup, i tried to pull off a casual smile, but i was sweating like crazy. Instantaneously, she roared in laughter and fell to the floor laughing, holding her gut; all i could do was wait for her to finish, hoping that somepony doesn't see me like this.
"Dude, did you lose a bet?" She asked through her laugh.
"Er...yeah, worst bet I've ever made," i lied, going along with it. Eventually she collected herself and got up, still faintly chuckling.
"Heh, whew, so what's up?" She asked. I realized what i was going to ask, and the thought caused my face to heat up, which didn't go unnoticed by her. She smirked, like she always does when she catches me staring whenever we hang out.
"Um...well, uh...i wanted to ask you if...you...made sure that your headphones are on right." i sputtered, she raised her shades, showing her shining red eyes, and raised an eyebrow.
"Really?" I just weakly nodded in response, "Well, if that's all you have to ask me, i need to get back to mixing, if you need to ask a certain something else, you know where to find me," she winked, putting her headphones back on and went back on the stand. I sighed, i couldn't do it, i turned around and slowly made my way back to the bathroom.

"You mean it didn't work?" Neon Lights was absolutely baffled after i told him what happened.
"No." I murmured, washing the paint out of my mane in the sink.
"I thought for it work," he said, rubbing his chin.
"Well it didn't," i said, washing off my tail and taking of the shoulder spikes and the wing armor. I grabbed a wet wipe and started wiping the tattoos off my coat.
"Well, don't you worry, i have more ideas that'll help you out," he offered. Annoyance spread through my body as i applied more force to clean my coat.
"No, i don't think your help is helping, that was so embarrassing," i snapped, he seemed taken aback.
"Wow, i'm sorry...Wait! I've got the perfect thing," his face brightened up like the sun. I scowled.
"This isn't any costumes or tattoos or anything like that, right?" i asked, he shook his head.
"Nothing like that, promise," his horn glowed and a small metal case appeared. It clattered to the floor, the two latches clicked, then the lid flipped open. "I've been saving this baby for a rainy day, i think she' definitely going to love this." He levitated a black, green, and red pair of headphones out of the case, and i gasped upon recognizing it.
"Dude! That's a X-99 Pone extreme with complete sound blockage! There's only a few in Equestria! How'd you get this?!" I exclaimed, he grinned.
"I know a guy, here," the headphones floated into my excited hooves.
"Wow, this is amazing, thanks," i said, smiling gratefully. He nodded, smiling back warmly.
"Sure, you can't go wrong with the Pone brand."
"I'd totally hug you right now, but that'll be awkward," he shrugged in agreement. "i'm just gonna go." I galloped out the door, taking care not to drop the headphones.
"Good luck!" Neon Lights called just before i was out of earshot.
I was out of breath by the time i got up the stairs. I saw Vinyl finishing up her final song. I hid the headphones behind my head as i panted to catch my breath.
"Um, hi, Vinyl," i said, Vinyl turned her head towards and lowered her headphones to hear me better.
"Hey Blue, my headphones are on right by the way," she said playfully, smiling brightly. I smiled back nervously.
"Well, i have something for you," i said, her ears perked up and she turned around completely and tilted her head curiously.
"What do you have?" She asked, i took a deep breath and showed her the headphones. Her jaw went slack as her eyes met the pair and she took off her shades.
"Is that...the X-99 Pone extreme?" She whispered, i nodded.
"Yeah, i want to give it to you..." The next second i found myself being hugged tightly by her, causing the headphones to clatter to the floor.
"This is amazing! Thank you, thank you," she said excitedly, physical contact by her caused my face to feel like it's boiling and my wings deployed and stiffened.
'Darn it, wing-boner!' I thought as i stumbled to find a response. She pulled away, but her hooves were still wrapped around my neck. I blushed when i noticed our muzzles were inches part. "Vinyl? I've...wanted to ask this for a while," i said shyly, looking into her eyes. A tinge of pink spread across her cheeks as she looked back into my eyes.
"What is it?" She asked expectantly, as if knowing what i wanted ask. Here goes nothing.
"Will you...um, will you be my special somepony?" I asked. The response i received was her lips pressing against mine. My eyes widened to the size of Equestria, a warm feeling tingled from my mouth to the rest of my body and my heart knocked against my chest. After recovering from the shock, i kissed back, my eyes closing and my hooves wrapping around her neck and holding her close. As amazing as this felt, i had to pull away for oxygen. I opened my eyes and smiled happily. "So i guess that's a yes?" i asked. She smiled back.
"I guess it is," she responded, looking back at the DJ stand. "I'm almost done here, you can pick me up once the song's over, then we can go over to my house." She winked, turning around and flicked my chin with her tail. My heart kicked and my smile grew wider, i still i can't believe i did it. I couldn't have done it without Neon Lights though, i really need to thank him more when i see him again.
Not hugging him though, that still would be awkward.
