On the same night Twilight Sparkle was crowned the Princess of Friendship, she was captured by bandits. Now trapped thousands of miles away from Equestria, she has to find a way back home, all while under the "protection" of a shady human.

Wanted for countless crimes, and threatened with the gallows, the mysterious, manipulative, and downright clever "Shade" must find a way to free Princess Celestia's former student from her captors... all in exchange for his life and a chance of freedom from the laws he was naturally born to break. With their vast amounts of differences, however, perhaps this little rescue could be more than a simple walk in the park for them.

Lucky for him, though, Princess Celestia never mentioned any specific ways that he had to return her, other than "alive" and "unharmed".
