The Day That Equus Stood Still
"Chaos. That's how you would describe that day. No warning whatsoever, no signs, all of the sudden the temperature plumetted. Ice sheets formed around the poles, it was snowing in LAS PEGASUS for Celestia's sake. I remember that day. But let's let our very own Princess Twilight Sparkle, soviergn of the Ponyville Commune, tell us about that day."
*Applause is heard as the Princess takes the stage*
"Thank you, everypony for attending this event. It has been five years since The Day. However, let me tell you how I remember it. I was in my new castle, I presume you all remember how surprised you were when a castle sprouted out of the ground. Anyways, my faithful assistant Spike runs in urgent news..."
"Twilight! Come outside now!" Twilight rolled her eyes as Spike tried once again to get her to go outside. "Spike, I appreciate your concern, but there is no possible way it's snowing in May." Spine groaned and walked out, convinced that Twilght would have to go outside eventually. As if on que, Rainbow Dash came hurtling through a window, crashing into Twilight. Twilight gasped and stood up, preparing to yell at Dash. "Rainbow Dash, please use the door! You're letting in... the... snow?" Spike yelled from across the castle that no one ever listened to him. Shocked, Twilight went out on the balcony of the castle, and watched as a large chunk of Ponyville's populace had gathered outside the castle, demanding a reason for why it was snowing in May. "Please, calm down! Can anypony tell me what happened!" One pony spoke up, yelling out "It's snowing, and we wanna know why, what do ya' think!" Twilight called out for Spike, and instructed him to write a letter to the Princess about what was happening. She then stepped back onto the balcony to address the crowd. "I have sent a letter to Princess Celestia asking her what has happened. We will get to the bottom of this." When Twilight received a letter back from the Princess, the news was devastating. The Crystal Empire had been swallowed up by Ice and snow, and riots were breakin out all over Equestria. Princess Celestua had ordered all troops back to Canterlot, and she had dissolved Equestria. Twilght turned back to face the crowd. "It has appeared that an Ice Age has descended upon Planet Equus. Equestria has collapsed, and Princess Celestia has ordered all Gaurds not protecting the princesses to retreat to Canterlot. I am truly sorry to say this, but it appears Ponyville is by itself." As the crowd erupted into chaos, Twilight was back in the castle, writing a document, one that would decide Ponyville's fate for years. It went a little like this:

On this day, May The 2nd, Year Of Celestia 2014, I, Princess Twilight Sparkle, being of age, sound mind, and of royal blood, officially declare the town of Ponyville an independent community, seperating itself from the political entity formerly known as Equestria, with the knowledge and blessing of Her Majesty, Princess Celestia.
