“Miss Yearling, please be reasonable!”
“I am being reasonable, why can’t we just add this to the next book?!”
It was another day in the life of an editor. Two mares were sitting in a private room, owned by the publishing house that printed many different novels, their bestselling being that of that of the Daring Do series. Currently, the editor of the book was having a little bit of a tiff with the author, A. K. Yearling. She was an older mare. Her coat was light gray, with a purple mane and white streaks going through it, and had a cutie mark of three purple stars. Many knew her as Twilight Velvet, but she mostly preferred Velvet.
Currently, the older mare was locking her sky-blue eyes with that of A. K. Yearling. “Because, Miss Yearling, it’s a bit too graphic for my tastes! Why would Daring Do just…do a love scene with a random mare?! And why a mare?!”
The mare in the shawl just groaned in annoyance. “Because, this was a mare that’s helped her throughout the story, the love scenes are there to convey how much passion they have between each other, and how sad it will be when she has to say goodbye to her when she learns she’s the holder of an ancient light that protects another realm and has to leave her!”
Velvet read over the manuscript again, she had to admit, A. K. Yearling was very detailed in how the two made love. Now it wasn’t that Velvet was a prude or anything. It was just so vivid, so detailed, that you’d think Miss Yearling was actually there watching it happen, or at the very least experiencing it first hoof. Velvet felt an old stirring in her loins just scanning over the script, she quickly shook her head and placed the pages back on the table.
“I’m sorry Miss Yearling, but you know the age range of the ponies who read your books, children, young adults, even some adults read your stories. I’m not saying that the older readers wouldn’t mind it much…Celestia knows I’ve seen many a fanfiction on the matter, but just because they write it, doesn’t mean you yourself have to as well to reach out to them.”
A. K. Yearling rubbed the bridge of her nose, she was very adamant about getting this in the book. “Couldn’t you just slap a label on it that says, I don’t know, ‘Ages 18+’ or something? I just…I really want this to be part of the book…it’s…sentimental.”
Velvet noticed the sad tone in A. K.’s voice, now she was wondering if this mare that Daring Do has an affair with wasn’t just a random insert, maybe A. K. modeled her after a mare she herself fell in love with and had to say goodbye to and this was kind of an homage to her memory or something.
Velvet felt a pang in her heart, she didn’t want to deny this of the author if it held such value to her emotionally, but at the same time she couldn’t let young foals read this. She was a mother herself after all.
“Miss Yearling…Let me be clear with you on something.”
“Alright…”
“I’m not opposed to these…sex scenes – let’s just call it what it is. I know you’re not just writing it just to write smut, even I could sense the level of emotion you put forth while writing it, it was as if I was holding this mare and speaking those words to her myself. But I’m also a mother, and I know that these parts aren’t something that I want my children to read.”
The bespectacled mare hung her head low. “I understand…just…just give it back to me and I’ll just shelve it in my home. I’ll come up with something soon.”
“Now hold on, I never said that.”
A. K. Yearling raised her head.
“I can talk to my boss, if you want, we can get it published…but it would be through a third party publisher that we do business with. They’re not some sleazy porn book company, they just publish works that are more romantic and detailed than we can allow. We can run it as a joint project, that way we avoid any uproar that a child will read it.”
A. K. Yearling’s smile broadened upon hearing this, and if Velvet was so bold, she may’ve seen tears form in her eyes.
“Thank you Mrs. Velvet.”
It was late when Twilight Velvet left her office and headed back home. She didn’t want to admit it, but she was feeling a little hot and bothered by the scenes A. K. Yearling wrote, which surprised her since she never saw herself as being aroused by that sort of thing, a mare with another mare.
She decided to get the rest of the chapter done at home, Night Light, her husband, had already told her that he wouldn’t be back home tonight. Apparently somepony was trying out a new cataloging system for the books in the Royal Archive, the result of which lead to practically every book in the library being misplaced or missing in different sections of the humongous place.
So, with that knowledge, Velvet knew it would probably be just her, her son Shining Armor, and her daughter Twilight for the rest of the night. Velvet knew she’d be asking a lot of her son, but seeing as she needed to get this work done, she didn’t see Shining Armor protesting too much about watching Twilight. Those two were as thick as thieves.
Velvet finally arrived at her humble abode. Unlike most of the Canterlot nobility, Velvet and Night Light didn’t feel the need to boast about their family’s wealth with an obscenely big mansion. A modest, rather lovely home, was more than enough for them.
As she entered, Velvet heard hoofsteps behind her. “Hi Shiny, listen I don’t know if Royal Guard training was tough today, and I’m sure you’re tired nonetheless, but could you do me a favor and watch your little sister for the time being?”
“I have no problem with that. Only, I’m not Shiny.”
Velvet’s ears perked up as she paused in her actions. She turned around and saw who the familiar voice belonged to. She was a lithe, fuchsia colored alicorn mare. Her three-toned mane was tied back into a ponytail as her amethyst eyes sparkled gleefully at the older mare’s confusion.
“Cadance?”
“Yep, that’s me.”
Velvet shook her head. “Oh sorry dear, I didn’t know you were still here. Um, isn’t Shining Armor home yet?”
Cadance giggled. “Unfortunately no, his cadet unit is undergoing some intense training and they’re required to bunk in the barracks. It’s a way to cut down on the excuses of not being able to make it on time. Twilight’s up in her room right now, reading some books that Aunty Tia gave her.”
Velvet hoped her son would be alright, she knew those Royal Guard training sessions could be a little intense. But now what was she going to do? The material she brought over wasn’t something she wanted her daughter to barge in on and accidentally see. And Velvet knew she was going to have enough of a problem getting through it to edit it properly.
“Um, Mrs. Velvet, are you alright?” Cadance asked.
Velvet snapped herself out of her reverie. “Oh, just fine Cadance. Well, I’m sorry you had to stay later than you usually do.”
“Oh it’s no problem at all, I love spending time with Twilight.” Cadance then noted something odd. “Is Mr. Night Light coming? You two usually get in right around the same time.”
Twilight Velvet trotted into the room, she used her magic to lift the saddlebags with the manuscript and place it on the coffee table in the living room. She sat herself down and allowed herself a moment to relax before explaining why her husband would not be joining them. Cadance sat in the loveseat across from Velvet and listened closely. After she finished, Cadance thought for a moment and came to a decision.
“Well, if you want, I could stay the night and help you out,” said Cadance.
“Oh Cadance, you don’t have to do that, I’ll get to my work somehow, I just…”
“Just what?”
Velvet bit her lower lip as she contemplated telling the young mare why she needed Twilight occupied. “Well…the manuscript I brought with me contains…some rather inappropriate material that I don’t want Twilight reading at all! I don’t want to go into too many details, but I promised the author I’d work with it. It’s going to be difficult since I don’t really edit these sorts of things, and I’d like to give this my total concentration.”
Cadance noticed a slight blush forming on the older mare’s face, which was a surprise since she didn’t often see Twilight Velvet get flustered like that nor did she ever know her to bring home work related stuff that was “inappropriate” for her own daughter to read.
“Mrs. Velvet, is this material something of the raunchy variety?” Cadance asked.
Velvet’s eyes went wide as her blush deepened. That was all Cadance needed to know.
“Alright, I understand. I’ll keep Twilight out of your mane for the night.”
“Are you sure Cadance? I don’t want to get you in trouble with the Princess.”
Cadance waved it off. “No trouble at all. I’ll just send her a letter saying why I won’t be back at the palace. She’ll understand.”
Velvet released a sigh of relief. “Thank you Cadance. If you want, I’ll pay you extra for staying over.”
The alicorn mare shook her head. “Nope, I won’t have that. This is on the house, or in your house really.”
Velvet and Cadance giggled at the bad joke. Just then the two mares heard the beat of tiny hoofsteps coming down from the stairwell. Velvet smiled as she saw her young Twilight stop at the middle of the stairs and look upon her with wide, happy eyes.
“Mommy you’re home!” Twilight exclaimed.
The young filly bounded down the steps and quickly made her way around the couch. Twilight then jumped onto it and nestled into her mother’s chest, nuzzling against her.
“Hi Twily, I missed you. Did you and Cadance have fun today?”
“Yeah! She helped me learn a couple of spells! Can I show you?!”
Velvet patted her daughter’s head. “In a minute, but first I need to tell you that Daddy and Shiny aren’t coming home tonight.”
Twilight’s ears drooped. “Oh…why aren’t they coming home?”
“It’s nothing serious honey, your Daddy’s working hard over at his job and they needed him to stay late. And Shining Armor’s going to have a big test tomorrow with the Royal Guard so they’re having him stay the night.”
At the mentioning of the word “test” Twilight’s ears perked up again. “A test?! Does he need help studying?! I can go make some flashcards!”
Twilight was about to take off, but Cadance quickly grabbed the young filly by the tail, using her telekinetic aura to keep her settled. “No Twilight, it’s more of a physical type of test. Lots of running, jumping, and icky sweaty work like that.”
“Ugh, I guess Shiny doesn’t need flashcards then. Maybe a towel would be better.”
Velvet and Cadance had to stifle a laughing fit at the innocent joke that Twilight had made. After gaining back their composure Velvet spoke next.
“I’m sorry to say honey that mommy’s going to be working tonight, so I won’t be able to play with you as much.” Velvet saw the disappointment set in, but quickly added, “But, Cadance said she would be happy to stay with us tonight.”
And there was that adorkable smile again. The lilac filly turned to her foalsitter, looking for conformation. Cadance nodded and Twilight hopped out off the couch and hopped around in circles saying “yes” over and over again. She finally stopped before the alicorn mare.
“Cadance is sleeping over! You’re sleeping over!”
“I know!” Cadance exclaimed in an equally happy tone.
“Well, now that we have that established. I’m going to start dinner and then we’ll sit down, eat, and then I’ll go to my bedroom to work.”
Daring Do and the unicorn mare, Lumière, had finally got a moment to rest. The adventurous pegasus didn’t know what she had gotten herself into when she went on this expedition, which was basically the story of her life, and now she had stumbled upon the biggest secret, a secret that could threaten the very world she lived in. And the key to saving this world was this mare at her side.
Daring took a moment to glance over to her. She was white as snow, her mane was silver, like starlight. And her eyes shimmered like a pair of amethysts under the moonlit night. Daring felt her heart thump in her chest, and face grow hot. This mare, Lumière, throughout this whole mess she watched as these Remnants of the Shadows ruthlessly pursued her, all because of a power Lumière had no idea she had.
Daring ushered Lumière along, taking them to an abandoned home. They were on the outskirts of Prance, near the countryside, but the lights of the city could still be seen in the distance, like fireflies settling onto the ground.
“We should be safe here, at least for now,” said Daring.
“Thank you Daring…”
Daring Do’s ears lowered, hearing such sadness within Lumière’s voice made her heart grow heavy.
The house was mostly empty, a table and some chairs were all that were inside the living room. The cabinets were filled with cobwebs and dust, and from the looks of it, she could tell that nopony had been back to this home in a long while. Meaning they’d be less likely to be found.
“Stay here Lumière.” Daring ordered.
Lumière nodded.
The pegasus mare checked every room in the house. The backdoor, the cellar door, and finally the bedroom, which thankfully still had a bed inside. Although, given how long this place had been abandoned, she wasn’t a hundred percent certain about how comfortable it would be.
“All clear Lumière. You should get some sleep, I’ll keep watch.”
Lumière trotted past Daring and entered the room. She then stopped and glanced to the mare from over her left shoulder, her face tinted red.
“Daring…could you…never mind.”
“What’s wrong? I won’t know ‘til you tell me Lumière.”
She looked pensive, but steeled herself. “Can you…would you mind terribly accompanying me?”
Daring’s wings flared with an audible “pomf”. “Ah…Um… Lumière I…”
“I…I just don’t want to be alone right now.”
Daring shook her head and got her wings back under control. “S-Sure.”
Lumière entered the bed first, and Daring followed suit, lying on the right side. The snow-white unicorn nestled herself against Daring’s chest, causing her heart to race. This was the first time any pony had evoked such a response from her. It probably wouldn’t have been that embarrassing if she wasn’t feeling a certain itch developing between her hind legs.
“Daring…?”
“Y-Yeah?”
“Your heart, it’s beating rather quickly. Are you alright?”
Daring glanced down and stared directly into those amethyst eyes and gulped. “Lumière…I…I feel…I don’t know what I feel, but…I don’t think I should stay here with you, not in the same bed anyway.”
“And why is that?”
“Because.”
“Because why?”
“Because I’m afraid of what I might do!” Daring proclaimed loudly, shutting her eyes and gritting her teeth at admitting that she had such impure thoughts amidst the mess they were in.
Suddenly, she felt a hoof gently caress her cheek. Daring opened her eyes and saw Lumière staring at her, smiling happily the whole time.
“If it is with you, Daring, I do not mind.”
“Lumière…I’ve never…not even with another stallion, let alone a mare…”
“Shh,” she whispered gently, “let us explore these feelings together.”
Lumière leaned up and kissed Daring on the lips. It was a soft kiss, and after getting over the initial shock of it, Daring leaned into the kiss a little more. Gentle pecks turned into passionate kisses, their mouths opening as their tongues danced in each other’s mouths. Daring held onto Lumière, bringing her closer, and Lumière wrapped her forelegs around Daring’s neck.
Without really realizing it, Lumière had intertwined their hind legs. Lustful moaning filled the otherwise empty house, but soon Daring stopped, releasing a very filly-ish squeak. Lumière parted and looked to Daring in confusion.
“What’s wrong?” She asked.
“I…I felt something touching my…” Daring looked down and her face turned red.
Lumière looked down as well, and saw what it was that caused the brave and bold mare to squeak. Their teats were brushing against each other, Daring’s erect nipples sunk slightly into Lumière’s soft mounds.
“I’m sorry Daring…I didn’t…”
“No, I-I liked it…so,” Daring kissed Lumière again, hungrily and passionately. “Keep going…”
She moved her hips forward and pressed their teats into each other, feeling her firm mounds sink into Lumière’s marshmallow soft ones.
Lumière moaned blissfully as Daring became more aggressive, pushing her back with their kissing until she found the pegasus mare straddling her. Daring stopped and leaned back, looking down at the beautiful mare that was panting and red faced. Lumière’s horn glowed and suddenly her explorer’s jacket was unbuttoned. Daring shrugged off the jacket, throwing it off across the room –
Twilight Velvet had to stop right there, she couldn’t keep going. Her face was hot and her heart thumped inside her chest. For the past few hours she had read the over the manuscript, finding little to revise, but when she started reading that first sex scenes, it aroused her.
It aroused her and it was interfering with her job as an editor. She had to step away from the story, had to clear her mind so that she would not be distracted by the growing heat between her legs. When she got up from her sitting position she looked down and blushed in embarrassment.
Beneath her was a small wet spot where she was sitting. Velvet reluctantly maneuvered her right hoof between her legs and gently brushed against her marehood. The contact released a sensual moan that made her quickly clamp her mouth shut. When she brought her hoof back Velvet looked upon it in dismay, seeing a bit of fluid around it. Velvet had no idea it was getting her that worked up, or that she could even get worked up by reading about two mares making love to each other.
“I…I need some wine.”
The unicorn gently cracked open the door, the only light illuminating the hall was that of her bedroom’s light. It was already well into Twilight’s bedtime, and the young filly was nothing if not adherent to a schedule, so it wasn’t likely that she’d be up right now. Cadance was another matter, but she figured that the young mare was either asleep in one of the guest rooms or sleeping in Twilight’s room, with Twilight cuddled up against her she’d wager.
Velvet stealthily made her way downstairs and entered the kitchen. She used her magic to levitate a wine bottle out from a high rack and poured herself a glass. Velvet swished the red liquid around for bit and inhaled its aroma before taking a light sip, and savoring the taste. She tried, Celestia she tried, but Velvet was having a hard time trying to get through those scenes. The romance she could feel, the action was heart pounding, but those scenes…she may be an editor but this was the first time she had ever edited work like this.
Plus it didn’t really help that she had no experience in this sort of thing. If it were a stallion then she could better relate. But how was she supposed to know what another mare’s teats felt like when pressed together or how Daring melted into the sensual kiss that was as soft as silk! Velvet downed the glass in one gulp, resisting her old college days urge to slam it on the kitchen counter like a drinking game.
Velvet poured herself another glass and proceeded upstairs. College, now that took her back. She wasn’t always the graceful mare she was now, no, even she had a bit of a rebellious streak, going out to parties during her college years, and flirting with the occasional stallion. Although, now that she recalled, Velvet did remember one mare that seemed to show special interest in her. She was pretty much drunk off her ass so she didn’t care or mind. Thinking about it more now, the mare in question was rather attractive.
“Ugh, I wonder, if I looked her up and asked her ‘Hey, you probably don’t remember me, but my name is Twilight Velvet, and we used to attend the same college! And I was just wondering, if you’re still into mares, do you mind helping me out with some research by – oh I don’t know – sleeping with me?!’ HA! Like that’d go over well, probably call the Guard on me, and I wouldn’t blame her.”
The unicorn mare continued down the hallway, not noticing that her bedroom door was ajar a little more than when she left.
“I want to do right by Miss Yearling, but how am I supposed to when I don’t have any real life experi – Cadnace!”
Velvet nearly dropped her glass of wine when she saw Cadance peering over the manuscript, and the exact same page where she had stopped just a moment ago. The older mare’s sudden utterance made Cadance turn around quickly with a start, but she calmed down when she saw that it was Velvet.
“Oh Mrs. Velvet, I was wondering where you went.”
“Cadance…are you…did you…?”
“I have to say, I didn’t know you were branching out into erotica.”
Velvet blinked. “‘Erotica’?”
“Yes, this one with Daring Do and this mysterious mare Lumière. I’ve seen a few of these kind where somepony pairs her with a random stallion or mare, and while there are a few gems among them, this one…just, wow. I can actually feel the love radiating from this page. I didn’t know you had such a vivid imagination.”
Velvet quickly shook her head. “No Cadance you have it all wrong it’s…Cadance it’s not my work, it’s somepony else’s.”
Cadance was slightly disappointed that it wasn’t Mrs. Velvet’s work, but now was curious. “Okay, so who’s the author? Is it a somepony new to the scene?”
“No…she’s actually…If I tell you, will you promise to keep it a secret? And I mean it when I say that nopony is to know about this!” Velvet saw the surprise in Cadance’s eyes, but the alicorn nodded her affirmative. The unicorn mare let out a heavy sigh as she prepared to divulge the author’s name. “It’s…the author’s name is A. K. Yearling. The A. K. Yearling, of the “Daring Do” series.”
Cadance almost laughed at the notion that this was A. K. Yearling’s work, having read many of the Daring Do books to Twilight multiple times, so she was familiar with her work. But the fuschia alicorn didn’t see any hint that she was lying or joking, no, from that blush on her face and the seriousness of her not divulging the name of the manuscript’s writer, she couldn’t have been joking.
Cadance looked back at the work, her horn glowing as she used her special love aligned magic to verify the truth. Her mind was opened to the feelings of the writer, these were not fabricated fantasies, but the honest and true feelings of one who loved and lost that love.
“I see…I’m sorry for intruding Mrs. Velvet.”
“It’s alright…um…did you read it all by chance?”
“Just the love scene you had on your desk here. I didn’t want to mess up your editing work.”
With one worry out of the way, Velvet was able to concentrate on the original one. “Well, I’m my own worst enemy with that.”
“How do you mean?” Cadance asked.
Velvet pondered telling Cadance, wondering if it was a good idea to talk about these kinds of things with a young mare, and a Princess at that. But then again, Cadance’s special talent was love, and even if she was a young mare, no maybe because she was young that Velvet thought Cadance would provide her with some better input. She had nothing else to lose. Velvet got onto her bed and laid on her stomach as she swished the glass of wine around in her glass.
“This may sound prudish of me or rather silly, but I’m having a hard time connecting to this. Sometimes when I’m editing Miss Yearling’s work I can sort of enter her mind and understand what she’s doing, and how she wants it shown. That way I can more easily spot mistakes and simple errors, but with this, I’m at a bit of a road block.”
Cadance got up from her sitting spot and joined Velvet on the bed, lying across from the older mare so that she was looking at her directly. “And why’s that? You’re a great editor Mrs. Velvet, I wouldn’t think something like a graphic love scene would be too big of a challenge. Although, I can understand since it’s not the usual thing you probably work with.”
“There’s that, and the other obstacle is that I have no experience in that area.” Velvet then took a sip of her wine.
“‘No experience’? Um, Mrs. Velvet, judging by Shiny and Twily, I think you have more than your fair share of ‘experience’,” said Cadance as she wiggled her eyebrows.
Velvet almost spluttered her wine on the bed and on Cadance. “Cadance I…! Okay, we’ll be adults here. Yes, I know my way around the bedroom, and of course have had sex with Mr. Night Light enough times to give birth to two children. But that’s the thing, I know what entails when it comes to stallions and mares. The feelings, and the sensations, in that area I’m knowledgeable. But two mares? I have nothing against it, but I can’t say I ever…dabbled in such things when I was younger.”
Cadance was starting to understand the problem now. “So you have no ‘real world experience’ is what you’re saying?”
“Correct,” said Velvet with a bit of dismay.
“If you want I could help you?”
Velvet blushed at the offer. “Oh nonononono, Cadance. I couldn’t possibly ask you to help me in the editing work. Ms. Yearling has entrusted me with this and I want to make sure I give her my best.”
“I understand, and honestly I don’t know the first thing about editing work. But I do know something about love, and lust in the bedroom.” Cadance’s eyes took on a dangerous half lidded look to them. “I am the Princess of Love after all, so I’m very knowledgeable when it comes to stallions and mares rutting, and even how two mares can have fun too.”
Velvet’s wine glass was shaking in her aura, she wasn’t sure if she was drunk from the wine and imagining this or if Cadance had really just offered to do that with her. “Um…Cadance, dear, I don’t think that’s really appropriate.”
“Why not?” Cadance scooted closer, using her magic to undo her blue ribbon that held her mane together.
“I…Well for one I’m married!” Velvet scooted back.
“I know that, it’s not as if I’m asking you to leave your husband.” Cadance scooted a little closer, and used her magic to quickly take the wine glass and put it on the dresser.
“A-And what about Shining Armor?! I know he cares about you very much, I don’t think he’d take it well, hearing that his fillyfriend slept with his mother!” Velvet scooted further back.
Cadance giggled as she kept slowly advancing. “Mrs. Velvet, I love Shining Armor. I always will, and someday I’m hoping he’ll work up the courage to propose. But that’s not what this is about, it’s about helping you.”
Velvet kept retreating but stopped when her rump hit the headboard of the bed, leaving her with nowhere else to go as the alicorn mare before her stalked closer like a hungry predator. “W-What about Twilight?! If she hears us or sees us…how will we explain something like that to a ten-year-old filly?!”
Cadance stopped for a moment. “You’re right, that would be bad if Twilight heard us or walked in on us.”
Oh thank Celestia I reached her common sense, thought Velvet.
“So let’s take care of that.” Cadance’s horn glowed with light-blue mana. A layer of magical light fell over the whole room and bled into the walls, door, and floor. Cadance’s horn flashed and another light appeared over the door. “There we go, now Twilight or anypony else for that matter, won’t be able to hear us. We can be as loud as we want, and with that seal on the door, nopony will be able to come in unless we say so.”
Velvet wasn’t sure if she was glad of the precautions Cadance had taken or scared. “Cadance I…I…I’ve never done anything like this before…and you’re…”
Before Velvet could get out the next word Cadance lunged forward and locked lips with the older mare. The light gray unicorn’s eyes went wide as her pupils became the size of pinpricks. She made the mistake of gasping when Cadance lunged for her, because that was all the teenage alicorn needed to slip her tongue into Velvet’s mouth. Sensual moaning emanated from Cadance as she closed her eyes and used her tongue to trace Velvet’s oral cavity, and caressing the older mare’s tongue with her own.
Cadance slowly broke the kiss and stared directly into this blue, starlight eyes. “How was that?”
Velvet finally snapped out of her shock and took a moment to recall what she felt. Compared to her husband, Cadance’s kiss was softer, like…
“Could you…do it again?” Velvet asked sheepishly.
Cadance grinned. “Of course.”
The teenage alicorn slowly leaned forward, but this time Velvet met her halfway. Cadance used her tongue to coax Velvet’s out, inviting the older mare into her mouth. Velvet couldn’t believe what she was doing, passionately kissing another mare, a young mare, her son’s fillyfriend at that!
But somehow all that faded into the background, there was only this moment and this kiss. It was vastly different than when she kissed her husband, passionate yes, but Night Light was a little rougher. Compared to Cadance it was no less loving, but it was softer, gentler.
Like silk…!
Velvet slowly broke the kiss for the second time and stared into those amethyst eyes. “I think…I’m getting it.”
“That’s great, now then. I think we should move onto something else, if you don’t mind me taking the lead for now.”
“Not all,” said Velvet breathily.
