"Button, put that away."

Elania had just seen her youngest son trying to smear her makeup all over his face, and was not happy.

"Mom, but I just wanted to...."

"Button, zip it or I'll take away your joyboy for the rest of the day."

Button Mash sighed in defeat and put the makeup down, scowling at his mom as he walked out of her bedroom. Elania hated shouting at her son, but he had become incredibly spoiled and out of line, and she didn't think there was a colt in the entire world who behaved worse than him. Every time she tried to take him round town, he either screamed his head off for a new game, some food related item, or permission to go home and play on his game console. He was so addicted to that machine that it was unhealthy, and one time she had to ground him for staying up all night playing it.

She turned to close her bedroom door, turned the light on, and sat on her bed. Reaching for the radio, she pressed the on switch, and heard the monotone sound of the newscaster.

15 years ago, Queen Chrysalis of the changlings declared war on the state of Equestria for dominance over Tamberlon island, (a ruined city wasteland filled with magical goods). Only a year and a half ago, Chrysalis imposed as Princess Cadance to try and claim Equestria all for herself, causing mass panic in the public. Ever since then, Princess Celestia and the recently appointed Princess Luna have demanded that the royal guard make a move to attack the changling hive...

She snapped the radio off. Slowly but surely, she got up from her bed and walked to the other side of the room, picking up a framed photo on a small table. The photo showed a picture of an exceptionally beautiful mare with long brown plats and a deep brown stallion wearing a smart black suit. They were both putting their hooves around one another and smiling at the camera. Elania stared at the picture for a while, and though she tried to fight it, her eyes began to become wet, and soon she found tears strolling down her cheeks.

"Why Masher, just why, why did you have to go and leave me all alone to bring up the kids whilst you tried your absolute hardest to get yourself killed out there. I've waited for years for you to come back to Ponyville, and you've never once considered it." She turned to face the wall on the other side of the room, the light from the ceiling shining off the wet patches of the tears on her pretty face.

Elania woke up in her double bed to a crash. She raced out of bed and right down the stairs to see what had happened, and whilst she was shocked at the answer, she wasn't surprised, this happened nearly every other day in this house.

"BUTTON."

Button Mash had tried to reach the box of chocolate hay crunch from one of the higher cupboards. Elania had put it high up because Button had constantly eaten it dry in the day whilst playing video games and therefore was never hungry for proper meals. She knew the stuff had no nutritional value, but she bought it anyway just to shut her son up. It was now however, split over the floor due to Button jumping up and down to get it, and in the process knocking the box and about 3 other objects out of the cuboard.

"Button, THIS HAPPENS NEARLY EVERY SINGLE MORNING," she screamed, walking across the kitchen and grabbing the box from his hooves.

"Sweep it all up NOW, why can't you just WAIT for me to get it down for you, and hell, I wouldn't have to if you wouldn't have eaten it exclusively during the day."

Button Mash rolled onto the floor, and started crying. Elania facehooved.

"Button, you can scream and cry as much as you want. But your still picking up that mess."

Button finally obeyed his mother, and got up to find the dustpan and brush. Elania watched her son sweep up all the bits of cereal that had fallen on the floor, and pick up the cardboard box to avoid anymore spilling out. She sighed, and started making herself some toast. Button was chomping away on his chocolate hay flakes whilst playing on his joyboy, but Elania let this pass. Even though he played on it far too much, she saw no harm in doing it at this exact moment. As long as he didn't take it into school, which he would undoubtedly try to do, good thing she always checked his schoolbag when they were about to head out the door.

Elania trotted upstairs to the bathroom to have a quick shower. She rinsed the sweat and dirt off her body and dried off, starting to brushing her teeth. After that, she trotted downstairs to see Button already ready to go out the door with his woolly hat on. He undoubtedly had his joyboy in his bag.

"Button, give me your joyboy."

Button could have thrown a tantrum at that moment, but he knew his mom always knew he tried to bring his joyboy in, so there was no point. Sighing, he took it out his bag, and handed it to his mother.

"Mom, can we get a cab," said Button as he saw a stallion driven taxi.

"NO, we're walking," replied Elaina.

"BUT I WAN'T TO GO IN A CAB."

"NO."

Elania dragged her son by the hooves and made her way to Ponyville Elementary School. It was a relatively short walk, and as always she kissed her son goodbye in the playground and gave him a hug.  She then left the school, and started on her usual walk towards work. When she finally got there she saw  the large sign on the building of the bar where she worked: Stroke's Lounge. Walking inside and putting on her apron, she got ready to start her job with the first orders. The morning wave was flooding in, and she started to work her way round each of the tables.

Another day, she thought. At my fuck all job.
