All Those Wubs In My Life
The DJ stole my heart
Previous ChapterNext ChapterChapter Two: The DJ stole my heart.
My dreams were haunted by the white unicorn the whole night long. The content was nearly the same every time the dream repeated. Vinyl was standing on the dance floor, a small smirk on her muzzle as I approached her. The swing of her hips as she danced to the hard wubs in the club made me join in, a deep need to just be near her.
Every time that a song came to an end, the unicorn closed the distance between us by a few steps, each dance resulting in us getting gradually closer to one another. Eventually, our fur touched and every moved would wind up making us rub up against each other in a sensual manner, until the beautiful unicorn took off her glasses and brought her muzzle up against mine. I lost myself in her beautiful eyes as we locked lips. They were never the same color, they would be blue in one and then grey in the next. But the one that reached my heart the most was the one where her eyes were red. A beautiful, ruby red that caught my breath and my heart.
As the red-eyed Vinyl kissed me, I awoke breathing heavily and sweating. My heart pumped loud enough that I was afraid my parents would hear it. Somehow I knew that Vinyl's eyes were red, and that she hid them with her shades because of that. I didn’t have a clue why, because in my opinion they were the most beautiful eyes I'd ever seen, even if it was just in my dreams.
I got up quickly and made my way to the bathroom. It was too early to get up and prepare, but I could at least wash the sweat away and take a shower to cool myself down. I turned the valve, enjoying the water dripping over my coat.
What do I feel for her? It’s so weird…
My mind got to musing and I shook my head, trying to push it away.
I don’t even really know her, no matter what Cloudy told me. She surely doesn’t even like me.
This thought shook my heart and I felt sad. Love at first sight is a myth, and I wasn’t sure if I could make my peace with it. Besides, there were zero chances for me after what Beauty Brass did to Vinyl.
Why do I even care?
I turned the shower off, dried my coat and threw myself back into my bed, growling into my pillow. The club wasn't open before sunset, and it was just after sunrise now. It would be a really boring day until it was time to go. Maybe talking to another friend would help, and since I knew Cloud Kicker wouldn't be awake before the evening, I decided to visit Roseluck.
I rose from my bed slowly and left my room, just to be met with a stare from my mother downstairs, “You are going to a party tonight? Why haven't you told us?” she asked.
“Ah, great. Thanks for searching through my saddlebags again, mom. It's a celebration for the end of the semester, everypony is going,” I replied with a sour expression.
“Don't do anything you will regret, my dear. And don't drink too much,” she said simply before turning and walking into the kitchen.
Sighing, I turned towards the door, “I'm going to visit Roseluck!” I called before leaving the house.
It was early in the morning, and the chill hadn’t left the air yet. Despite the hour, I knew that Roseluck’s flower shop would already be open, and maybe she could help me gather my mind.
My walk took me to the outskirts of Canterlot. I easily could have flown there, but I enjoyed the walk, and flying would have just been too fast for such a nice day. I had plenty of time left until the evening, so there was no need to rush. Soon enough, I stood in front of a small and familiar shop and I walked in, a small bell announcing my arrival.
“Good Morning! What can I do for-” the earth pony behind the desk stopped and smiled, “Sassa! Good to see you! How are you, my friend?” she approached me and pulled me into a soft hug.
“I'm fine, Roseluck, and how are you? Business is fine, I guess?” I replied and returned the smile.
“Everything is fine, Sassa. So, what brings you here?” she asked, causing me to sigh as I prepared for what I had to tell her.
“Do you believe in love at first sight?”
She just looked confused, “How did you come up with that now?”
“Please answer my question first,” I shifted nervously from one hoof to another.
“I think such things exist, but they are a great risk,” she tapped her hoof slowly at her chin while talking, “Are you in love, Sassa?” came the question, but it wasn't surprising, since Roseluck knew me like her flowers; very well.
“I guess so, Rose. Look, I met a pony yesterday and I just can't get her out of my mind! I even dream of her, and my heart flutters when I think of her, but that doesn't make any sense! How can I love somepony I just met and don't even know that much about?” my mind just couldn't bring the pieces together and I didn't know what to do.
“Oh, Sassa,” she laughed, “You are definitely in love, or at least you got a crush on that pony. Mind if I ask who she is?”
“Well, she is a white unicorn with a two-toned blue mane. Her name is Vinyl Scratch,” I said and Rose gasped.
“Wait... you met DJ-Pon3?” Roseluck’s eyes were as wide as possible, “She's truly 'the' mare in the business! I can't even find the words to describe her or her music!”
“I don't even know what music she plays,” I commented, a blush on my cheeks.
“She's not playing music, she's creating it! And she's absolutely awesome while doing so,” Rose had a dreamy state in her eyes.
“Well then, I guess that I don't even have a chance,” My voice was nearly a whisper, filled with sadness.
Roseluck snapped out of her thoughts and looked at me, “Don't think like that. Everypony deserves to be happy, and there is always a chance for love.”
I laughed bitterly and her expression fell, “No, Rose. Somepony hurt her some time ago, and since then, at least after what I've heard, she doesn’t want it anymore.”
As my gaze turned down, a hoof slid under my chin to bring it upwards again. I looked into Roseluck’s eyes and she smiled slightly.
“This could be a chance for you to be her friend, Sassa. Comfort her, make her feel better and maybe forget about the past. If you succeed, there could be more than just friendship. But the question is if you would take the risk and try.”
“I don't know, Rose,” was the only thing I could reply before hugging her tightly, “Thanks, Rose. You're a true friend.”
With a smile, we broke the hug and I left the shop so she could concentrate on her business. Outside, I unfolded my wings and took off, trying to get my mind clear with a bit of flying. It always helped, and so it did now.
Am I willing to take the risk? Can I be her friend? I have to admit that I do like her, more than normal. Maybe it's really a good friend she needs. And Rose is right, there could be more following that.
Grinning, I aimed for my house. I would wait till the evening and just see what would come from it. Maybe everything wasn't as difficult as it looked like at the moment.
***
The evening was slightly more chilly than the morning was, and the sun was about to go down as I left to pick up Cloud Kicker. Thinking about seeing Vinyl again made me nervous, really nervous. No matter how hard I tried to calm myself down, my hooves shook and my mind refused to settle from its panicked state.
After a few minutes of travel, I stood in front of Cloud Kicker’s house, knocking on the door. Nothing happened for several seconds, and I was about to just go home and forget about everything. As I was preparing to accept the possibility of just leaving, the door opened and Cloud Kicker appeared, grinning wildly.
“You ready for the best party of your life?” she asked me and I nodded, “Well we better keep going, then!”
She trotted out, and together we made our way towards the club. We saw the line of ponies waiting in front of the club before we saw the actual building, but we didn't waste any time waiting in line and swiftly passed them, pulling out our VIP tickets to show them to the bouncer who blocked our way. He checked the tickets, then a small list.
“You're not on the list, and these tickets are unregistered. Now get back into the line, ladies!” he grunted.
“But a friend gave them to us! Our names have to be there!” Cloud Kicker said, trying to give the bouncer her best puppy face.
“Don't even try it,” came the snorted answer, but he turned and went into the club, taking the tickets with him, “You wait here, I'll ask my boss about those tickets.”
We weren't really happy, but waited in the line for a few minutes. Finally, the bouncer came back and waved to us, wearing an apologetic grin.
“I’m sorry, why didn’t you try to tell me that you’re friends with our DJ? Come in quickly, she wants to see you before the party really starts,” he said, pulling us inside the club.
It was absolutely huge, and it was my first time being in such a giant club. A large stage and dance floor were in the center of the main room, and I was sure that hundreds of ponies could easily fit in there. The bouncer guided us through a small hallway, which led into a VIP-section, passing small couches and comfortable chairs. We soon stood in front of a small door and Cloud Kicker tried to get in, but he reached out his hoof to stop her.
“Whoa, hold on there. The DJ said that only the turquoise one is allowed to enter her room. You'll have to stay out here,” he said before he nodded me towards the door.
What is going on here? She remembered the colour of my coat?
Cloud Kicker gave me a confused look, one that mirrored my own expression. It was unusual for a pony to remember the exact colour of my coat. I wondered why she would want me specifically to go inside, but I shrugged it off and walked inside.
The room was dark, it seemed to be some kind of resting room for the DJ with a bed, a small set of drawers, and a door which I guessed led to the bathroom. A small couch on the edge completed the look of a single pony apartment. Vinyl was sitting on her bed, wearing her shades even though the room was dark. As I walked towards her, she snapped her head towards me.
“Glad you made it. Sassaflash was your name, right?” she asked and I nodded, “I'm not good with long names, so I’ll just call ya Sassa. But hey, I'm impressed with myself that I remembered the colour of your coat,” Vinyl grinned at me.
“I have to admit that I was surprised you remembered it, and even more surprised you let me in here, but not Cloudy,” I tried to look behind her shades to meet her gaze, but to no use.
She stood up and walked towards me, the grin still around her muzzle, but now more of an evil one. I tried to back away, but the door at my behind stopped my retreat. She walked closer and leaned in, bringing her muzzle close to my right ear.
“I really like you. Too bad I'm not into such things anymore,” she whispered, her breath causing my ear to twitch.
“B-But you only m-met me yesterday... How can you already think about such things?” I stuttered like a little filly, but my heart jumped and told me that I was a bad liar. Deep inside me, I knew that I had already developed similar feelings for this mare.
“Hey, I'm not a mare that sits on her flank and waits for the things to come. If I want something or somepony, I get up and catch it. Also, I can tell that ya feel similar. I'm not a dumb filly, ya know,” she snickered and leaned back, looking at me.
Or at least, I thought she was. Her shades were still covering her eyes well. I felt the need to take her shades away, and had already unfolded my wings to reach for them, but Vinyl quickly drew back, shaking her head furiously.
“No! Nopony does that! Nopony should see me without them, I'm a freak!” she shrieked, “They all get scared away or glare at me because of them.”
To my surprise, Vinyl was clearly sobbing now in front of me. I tried to advance on her again, but she was quite faster in moving back, “I don't want you to be scared and run away. Or that you think I'm a freak and leave me alone,” she whispered and my eyes widened.
“I won't be scared away, and I definitely won't glare at you because of them either. If you're different, that makes you something special, Vinyl. Something that everypony should recognize, and you to be proud of,” I said, trying to take away her fear while comforting her with the truth.
The white mare stopped backing away, her sobbing clearing up slightly. She looked up, a small smile showing on her muzzle, “You really think so?”
“Of course I do!” I said, and while I had no idea what I was doing, I stepped forward, passing the last void between us and closed my wings around her body, pulling her into a tight embrace.
At first she tried to fight it, but after a few seconds she leaned in and whispered into my ear, “I hate this mushy stuff. I'm Vinyl Scratch, the best and loudest DJ in all of Equestria, for Luna's sake...”
“That doesn't mean that you don't have any feelings,” I managed to reply, then took the chance and pulled her shades off with my hooves. She resisted, but then closed her eyes once they were uncovered and made it so that I couldn’t get a look at them.
“Vinyl, open your eyes, please,” I said, trying to make the words sounding soft and warm.
She hesitated, but slowly her eyes opened, making my mind stutter and my heart jump. They were like in my dream, just that they looked even more stunning in real life. Her eyes were a mix between a beautiful ruby and dark crimson, giving her a beautiful, exotic look. My breath hitched in my throat, my mind barely able to think about anything but the beautiful orbs in front of me.
They are so beautiful... I don't know what to say...
Vinyl looked at my for a few moments before fear snuck its way onto her face as she began to back away from my embrace, “You’re just like the others! Staring at me like I’m a damn freak! Go buck yourself and leave me alone!” she screamed, tears beginning to run down her muzzle.
She is really overreacting about that...
“Vinyl, stop it! I'm not staring at you because I think you're a freak! I'm staring at you because I think you have the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen!” I shouted back, a blush making its way up to my cheeks.
Oh Celestia, where did that come from?
What happened next surprised me. Vinyl rushed forwards and pressed her lips on mine. I never expected that to happen, so I just froze. It ended as quickly as it began and she turned her eyes down to the ground, the blush quite recognizable on her white coat.
“I'm sorry,” she muttered, barely audible.
“You don't have to be, I like you a lot,” I managed to say once the shock passed.
She stomped her rear legs onto the carpet nervously and looked up, tears still shimmering in her beautiful eyes.
“Look, I really like you… but,” she stopped tears beginning to flow again.
“But because of what happened with Beauty Brass, you don't want to risk it happening again?” I finished her sentence.
Vinyl looked shocked, but nodded after a few moments and tried to speak, “I've watched you for quite a while now. We didn't just met yesterday, sorry I didn't tell ya.”
Now it was my turn to look shocked, “Ah, okay. So you... wait, what?! Where?”
“School. We were sharing a physics class, although we were in a different semester,” she said, a sad smile appearing on her muzzle.
That can't be. There's nopony in my class like her...
“I never saw you in one of those,” I started, trying to remember everypony in the class that looked even the slightest bit like her and I got the clue, “Wait!” my eyes widened, “You're the white mare with the glossy, blue mane? No, that can't be. You have a different cutie mark and a two-toned mane...”
“I try to hide my cutie mark in class, as well as doing my hair differently when I’m in school,” she replied with a sly wink.
My jaw hung open wide, trying to imagine the bold and sexy mare in front of me as the shy mare with glasses in my class. The one in my class that never talked with anypony or did much more than her work. Now that I thought about it, she had never spoken at all during school. But there was still something that separated them too much for me to believe it.
“Her eyes are blue and your eyes are like rubies,” I said before I could even think to stop myself.
Vinyl smiled wickedly, and I felt heat rising to my cheeks as I realized what I had just said.
“Magic,” Vinyl said, and with a flick of her horn, her eye colour changed to blue and then back to the usual colour, “And do you really think my eyes look like rubies?”
I tried to answer her, but nothing but some mumbling and babbling left my muzzle. It also wasn't really helping that she was coming closer, gazing deep into my eyes, and I was completely lost in hers.
It seems wrong... Is there really such a thing like love at first sight?
As much as my head said that it would be wrong and that I would just like her, my heart pumped louder with every second and called my head a liar while I felt myself moving towards Vinyl.
She kissed me, and this time I leaned in, jumping with all my heart into the kiss. The kiss lasted for several minutes, and as we broke apart her, eyes softened, a smile around her muzzle.
I never want to let go of her..
