Sinister Equestria
Chapter 2: A Normal Day
Previous ChapterNext ChapterIt was a normal day for Inferno, he woke up early, ate breakfast, got Lye up knowing that Twilight Jr. was already up since she slept in his bed due to nightmares. Twi, as all of Twilight Sparkles friends called her, was already at her daily studies of magic and friendship. As Inferno walked to Twi to give her a morning kiss, a randomly loud thud echoes through the tree of which they live.
“I better go see if Rainbow had another mishap with her tricks”, Inferno spoke as if still half asleep. With a quick kiss to his wife and kids, he left the house to check up on Rainbow and to go to work as a protector of Canterlot. He normally welds for the Ponyville Big Business Construction Company, but today was special. As he walked around the house to see if any damage was done, he finds an oddly shaped stone with an engraving on it. Inferno quickly used his magic to disperse any fire that was still surrounding it.
“Twilight, you need to come see this!” he exclaimed loudly.
“What is it?” she answered.
“A stone…but with a symbol that I don’t recognize,” Inferno said in a quick but clear voice.
“Hmm, well, I have a good place to put it and will read up on the symbol while you are at work.” As she went on, “Which in fact you may want to hurry up too.”
“Your right, just be careful around that thing, and don’t forget I won’t be back until tomorrow as I’m helping your brother with guarding Canterlot from whatever it needs guarding from.” He had said in an informal but hasty voice.
“Alright, Love you and be careful with this adventure!” Twi said, followed by another kiss, and Inferno yelling as he ran to get to the train station, “Love you too!”
After arriving in Canterlot and exchanging hellos with Shining Armor, Inferno meets with Princes Celestia to be shown his room. As mentioned before he is a welder for the ‘B.B.C.C.’, but was invited by Shining to be part of the protection of Canterlot as it prepares for what is said to be a “war between the unknowns”. Inferno is always up for a good challenge in order to practice his extensive spells and abilities.
Later that night, while lying in the bed he was assigned to, Inferno couldn’t help but worry for his wife, daughters, and friends. He had the feeling that something bad was coming and wanted to be there to keep them safe as he promised to always do. The room was filled with the bright and beautiful moon of which was brought on by Luna. Even as he slept his mind was still in motion of what could be happening now.
Across the many hills and plains in Ponyville, Twilight still read and tried to focus on what the stone was and meant, as well with the feelings that Inferno was feeling. As she read, she deciphered as much info as possible, only to find the markings says ‘Fire to be Sparked’. Not sure of what it means she head off to bed, this being long after Lye and T. J. being put to bed.
The world seemed to be just fine, with no yelling or explosion that might trigger a bigger threat then what is known… in fact, too quiet. Inferno woke with a jump to realize that there is something wrong. He thought to himself, “I must reach Ponyville by sunrise to make sure things are as they should be, even if it means Celestia getting mad.” He wanted his family safe.
Inferno did as he wanted, and made it home. It was still dark and the riders of the train kept the blinds closed so he couldn’t look out. With some light from a lantern lit nearby, Inferno quickly noticed one of his friends, part of the Drivers, sitting alone. Inferno leaped from his seat to see what Nero was doing on the train. “Nero, what are you doing here?” he asked.
With a short pause Nero answered, “Oh, I was told to run some letters up to Princes Celestia to inform her of the current state of the next Equestria Wide Parade.”
“Why didn’t you just ask Spike to send them for you?” Inferno saying this referring to Twilights long assistant dragon.
“He lives in your house and you forgot he went to a fashion show with Rarity?” Nero said, in a tired voice followed by a yawn.
“Oh, I have too much on my mind with the feeling that something bad has happened in Ponyville.” Inferno answered, also with a yawn.
“You too,” Nero said in more of an acknowledging way to show he feels the same.
“Well, let’s hope it is something small.” Inferno uttered, almost under his breath.
As the two ponies sat and chatted, the train began to grind to a whining halt, followed by a loud screech. As they got off the train, the only thing they could think was that it was a short trip but are glad to be home already. At first they thought this, until they saw all of the flames, screaming ponies, and dead bodies littered all over the street.
The only thing that Inferno could say was, “No, TWILIGHT!!”
He ran, leaving his friend behind to tend to other hurt ponies, and to have his daughter appear almost out of nowhere. Finally reaching the tree he sees Lye outside of the house with Twilight, who is passed out on the grass. “Lye, what happened here?” Inferno exclaimed in haste.
She answered with, “I don’t know dad, all I know was there was a loud explosion ending with mom and I out here. We will be fine, I can use the healing spell she taught me, but I couldn’t get inside where T. J. is.”
“It is alright, I will get her, and we will meet up with Nero and find a safe place to hide.” Inferno reassured his daughter, gave her a quick hug, and using his ability to shape his body into fire, flew into an open window of the library, and looked for T. J. In fact it wasn’t long until he found her, trapped, but awake and stunned from what had happened. “Come on T. J., let’s get somewhere safe.” Inferno helped her up and took her to Twilight outside. Twilight was awake, but in no shape to walk, so Inferno picked her up on his back and walked towered where he last seen Nero.
A Fire to be Sparked
Chapter 2: Part 4
Soon after meeting up with Nero, and walking alongside other homeless ponies, they found where they should go. Without a single word, tears from others and the only actual sound being Twilight’s sleeping voice muttering, “A Fire to be Sparked” as they walked. These words echoed within Inferno’s head. He heard them somewhere but had no idea of where. With enough time to think as he walked, it finally snapped in him. This rock he found, it was a Rune, with a power he could learn. Knowing this, he had Twilight carried by Big Mac., and had Apple Jack watch over his daughters. He quickly left the line of homeless ponies, to return to the house he had moved into with Twilight. As simple as it was, he retrieved the stone and was able to return to the survivors, who made a name for themselves: The 35th Line. The 35th Line in Pony geography was the area of which Ponyville was placed.
Again with Twilight on his back, he carried on, learning the emblem of the stone as he walked. That night, many ponies set up camps within a small opening of trees, and made small homes out of tree bark and bamboo they found planted there. As a first watch, Big Mac and Rainbow Dash guarded the sleeping 35th. After Twilight fully regained strength, she set up a small spot for T. J. and Lye. She wasn’t ready for speaking due to being tired after a long day of recovery. Inferno stayed up a short while learning what the rune really meant. After a short sleep, he traded guard duty with Mac and Rainbow, but was also helped by Nero. For some time they sat and talked, and watched the sun rise.
He didn’t know how it happened, but everypony was gone. They had been taken during one of the nights as he prowled the woods for wood to keep fires going. He was followed though, not by what took everypony else, but by Lye and Nero’s Daughter Snowflake. They were all he had now, and the only ones he had to help him find the place where the others were taken.
As he prowled along he came to the sight of a small fire, only to get caught by the creatures that took his family and friends. Lye and Snowflake hid behind a tree as he was taken, by what was now recognized, Sinister. A weird name for a group of bandits, but this was only a squad; there is still an army out there somewhere. (Snowflake was more introduced to Inferno the night before everypony went missing.)
Inferno did in fact try to fight back, but for some unknown reason, was unable to use his magic. Instead of trying, he gave up. The reason for this is because he knew the girls that followed him would stop at nothing to save him and all of the others. Without saying a single word, the two fillies followed the bandits only to come to a jail, with the name of Los Equestrian Jail.
