Prologue
Twilight sighed to herself as the sun began to slowly set below the horizon. 32 different candidates for a research assistant and they all were either trying to get in between her legs or trying to get a favor out of the princess. Another groan left her mouth as she slowly put her head on the table, giving up all hope. A sudden knock at the door roused her from her despair and she sighed and trotted over to the door, expecting yet another horny stallion.
“I’m not taking anymore applications for assistants.” She said as she opened the large crystal door.
“Oh, terribly sorry. I’ll just be on my way then.” The stranger’s voice said as he began to walk away, a manilla folder in the crook of his arm.
Twilight’s eyes went wide as she realized who had just been at her door. A human, a real human that now looked crushed as he walked away with his papers in his arm.
“WAIT!” Twilight called out.
The human turned around and looked at the lavender alicorn.
Twilight rushed over to him and held a hoof out to him.
“Twilight Sparkle. I didn’t realize that you actually wanted the job.” She sputtered.
The human cocked his eyebrow.
“It’s a long story, why don’t you come inside and we can talk?” Twilight looked at him hopefully.
The human could only smile as he followed Twilight back to the castle.
“So you’re the infamous Twilight Sparkle huh?” the human said as the pair entered the castle library.
“The one and only.” She beamed. She could hardly contain her joy that a human could be her research assistant.
“Name’s Richard, but everyone calls me Ricky.” He said.
“Very pleased to meet you Ricky. So what made you interested in this job?” Twilight asked, summoning a teapot and two teacups out of thin air.
“Well, when I got here a couple months ago, I could only find manual labor rather than a job like this due to the fact that these types of jobs are so rare. When I saw your ad in the newspaper, I jumped up at the opportunity.” Ricky explained as Twilight mixed the tea.
“It’s green tea, want some?” Twilight asked, offering him a cup full of the hot liquid.
“Oh sweet! I love green tea!” Ricky said excitedly, taking the cup from her magical grip.
“So what exactly are your qualifications?” Twilight asked, getting to the real part of the interview. Part of her wanted to hire him on the spot yet she knew that he needed to have the guts and smarts to do it first.
“Well, I was a biology major back on Earth and I took a 1 year course at the University of Canterlot on Magical arts and elements. I also have a potion making certificate.” Ricky stated, sipping at his tea.
“You’re hired.” Twilight said.
Ricky spit out his tea.
“WHAT?!” He shouted.
Noticing Twilight being covered with the sweet liquid, he blushed bright red and avoided making eye contact with her.
She giggled as her horn lit up and dried herself off.
“Everypony that has come in has either wanted a favor or to get in between my legs.” Twilight sighed.
“I wouldn’t blame them, you are quite pretty.” Ricky said with a smile.
Twilight’s own cheeks turned rose red at the compliment.
“Thanks. Nopony has really complimented me like that before.” Twilight said bashfully.
“So they’ve been lying to you?” Ricky asked, his smile now turning sly.
“Did you also take a course on being a mere magnet Ricky?” Twilight giggled.
“Maybe I did. Though I was no prize back home. Then again, I was a stick with legs. Now I’ve got some muscle to me.” He said, flexing his arms.
Twilight couldn’t help but feel a slight tingle in her loins as she stared at his defined torso through his tight shirt.
“So when do I start then Princess?” Ricky asked.
“Please, just call me Twilight. You’re gonna live with me now anyway. There is a guest suite up the stairs to the right. Bedroom, bathroom with a full shower and a small workspace area with desk and chair.” Twilight pointed up the stairs.
“Wow and a place to live? I think I could get used to this real fast.” Ricky chuckled.
“I’ll have my assistant Spike bring your things over alright? I’ll give you a tour of the lab right now.” Twilight said, getting to her hooves and trotting to a smaller door and pressing a button. The door opened and an eerie purple glow emanated from the inside. Ricky and Twilight stepped through and Ricky gawked at the sight. Beakers, vials, machines of all different sorts and best of all, a set of lab coats and safety gear made for humans.
“What’s with the human gear?” Ricky asked.
“Taylor helped me with a project in the past. I decided to keep it just in case.” Twilight said.
“Oh! Bon Bon’s husband?” Ricky asked.
“Yep. Everyone here in town loves him. Save Lyra of course, since he’s the reason she is facing 25 years in prison.” Twilight shuddered.
“What did she do?” Ricky asked.
“You don’t want to know. Right now why don’t we show you your suite?” Twilight offered.
“I’d like that.” Ricky replied.
They closed the lab and climbed the flight of stairs to the guest suite. Twilight wasn’t kidding, it was big. Twilight flopped down on the bed to demonstrate its softness. She landed in a quite suggestive pose which made the both of them blush in embarrassment.
“So I guess I’ll leave you to it. Spike brought all your things and they're all organized. See you tomorrow morning!” Twilight said cheerily.
Ricky suddenly gave Twilight a scratch behind her ear before she left. She shuddered at the feeling.
“Sorry, You ok?” Ricky asked.
“Yeah, that just feels good.” Twilight winked at him.
“Duly noted.” Ricky said, shutting the door behind her.
Ricky came downstairs after he freshened himself up and ate some breakfast.
“What’s on the agenda Twilight?” He asked.
“Today is my day off actually but I’d be grateful if you could run out and get some things for me.” Twilight said.
“Well, it is my job after all.” He chuckled as Twilight handed him the list.
It was the usual chemist materials and some extra vials and...eggs?
Ricky laughed to himself as he shut the door behind him.
Ricky thought back to that day and laughed, the awkwardness was rampant.
Now 2 years later, Ricky had become quite friendly with Twilight’s six friends and for some reason was no longer a research assistant but Twilight’s closest friend. How he a human had become the first to do so was out of his mind, he just enjoyed time with her too much. Though he hid his true feelings for the lavender mare most of the time, he had been dropping hints for the past two years. She’d picked up on it to say the least, flirting and cuddling with him on a daily basis, but it was all in good fun. The culture clash of the ponies being a lot more touchy feely took some getting used to from the human but he gladly adapted, enjoying the friendly nature of Twilight’s presence with every fiber of his being.
Today was the beginning of the week off of work that Princess Celestia had given them and Ricky planned on finally confessing to Twilight, all he needed was the perfect moment.
“Ricky!” Twilight’s voice echoed through the hall.
“Coming Twilight!” Ricky said, setting down the newspaper he was reading in his suite and heading over to Twilight’s chambers. Knocking, he entered the spacious room. It was nothing too grand, purple crystal along with a large four poster bed with a library and a sofa.
He spotted her on a ladder trying to reach a book on the top of one of the bookshelves. Ricky also noticed she was about to lose her balance.
“GAH!” Twilight yelped as she fell.
Ricky made a dive that would impress any NFL cornerback and caught the falling princess in his arms, saving her from injury.
She blushed madly as she looked up at Ricky.
“Don’t you realize you have wings princess?” Ricky said, cocking his eyebrow.
“Well I um, ya know, it was just that..” She sputtered.
“You know, I think that’s at least seven different favors that I’ve accumulated and I think I might cash in soon.” Ricky chuckled, setting Twilight down after he stood up.
He reached and got the book she was looking for.
“WAIT!” Twilight shouted.
“What?” Ricky asked as he looked at the cover of the book and her apprehension became apparent.

“Twilight?” Ricky asked, but Twilight had booked it out of the room and Ricky heard her head for the front door.
“TWILIGHT WAIT!” Ricky yelled as he sprinted after her.
He caught up to her rather quickly and snatched her up just as she was about to open the door.
“LET ME GO!” She hollered.
“Nope, not until you tell me what this little outburst is over.” Ricky ordered her.
Twilight let out a sigh as she stopped flailing.
“Can we go back to my chambers. I’d just like to cuddle at this point because it’s a long story.” Twilight relented.
Ricky nodded and did as she requested. When he sat down on the couch, Twilight hopped up onto his lap and nuzzled into his warm abdomen.
“So what was that book all about?” Ricky asked.
“Ricky, I’ve had a crush on you for about a year now and you’ll think I’m crazy due to how interspecies relationships are taboo in your world, but I want to be your marefriend.” Twilight confessed.
“I thought you said it was a long story?” Ricky chuckled. This earned him a light punch in the arm from Twilight.
“Look Ricky, I just want to be with you, I like you a lot, you bring a smile to my face everyday and console me when I’m down and you’re just always there for me.” Twilight released her feelings like a burning gas line.
“Twilight, I think this will make you feel better.” Ricky said.
“What?” Twilight asked, looking up at him.
He descended and met her with a deep kiss. She met his lips in a willing embrace. They were soft and his breath smelled of fresh mint. Twilight let out a happy sigh as she embraced the feeling of finally getting what she wanted after all this time. She let out a little whimper when he broke the kiss.
“How was that for an answer?” Ricky asked.
“Wait, so you want me to be your marefriend?” Twilight asked hopefully.
“That would be correct Einstein.” Ricky smiled.
“Who’s Einstein?” Twilight cocked her head in question.
“Never mind that. How about I make us some dinner tonight and we can call it a date?” Ricky offered.
“That would be amazing!” Twilight beamed.
“Glad you thought so.” Ricky chuckled.
Ricky whipped up a fresh batch of baked ziti, his personal favorite dish to both eat and cook. He set it in the oven and began to clean up the dishes he had used to prepare the meal. Twilight wandered into the kitchen as the smell of the baking cheese and pasta made its way to her nose.
“Sweet Celestia that smells good! How come you never told me you could cook?” Twilight asked.
“I thought you were talking about in the lab.” Ricky mocked surprise.
The ding of the timer interrupted their conversation as Ricky pulled the ziti out of the oven and set it on the table for two.
They ate in silence, which was quite odd seeing as they always had something to talk about over dinner, yet it had been quite a day and they both felt that they wanted to save the conversation for after the meal.
Twilight went upstairs to her chambers while Ricky cleaned up everything else. For the purple alicorn, it seemed like he took eons to get up there. When he finally showed up, she scrambled over to the bed and sat on her flanks.
“Hey Ricky.” She purred.
“Why hello there Princess. The kitchen has been cleaned and polished to your satisfaction.” Ricky bowed.
“I am in need of some entertainment for the night. Can you supply some?” Twilight giggled.
“Do you enjoy classical music princess?” Ricky asked.
“I do quite enjoy it actually.” She admitted.
Ricky disappeared for a moment and returned with a cello in his hands.
“I didn’t know you played the cello!” Twilight looked at the instrument in shock.
“You don’t know all my secrets Twilight.” He smiled as he put the bow to the strings and began to play.

As the tune ended, Twilight opened her eyes.
“That was breathtaking.” She said in a sigh.
“Glad you enjoyed.” Ricky grinned.
“Now come over here and give your princess a good cuddle. I’ve been in need of one all week.” Twilight begged.
“As you wish.” Ricky compiled and got onto the bed with Twilight.
They fell asleep to the sound of their own breathing and the light scratching of Ricky working behind Twilight’s ear.
