Chapter 1: In The Beginning…
My name is Jubilee Slash, nicknamed “Relic” by my friends and band members. I’m an outcast to the society of Equestria. I’m the the type of pony that all the stuck up ponies would label as “emo” or “goth” although, due to my hatred for labels, am none of the two. I just happen to like the color black and have long hair with fringe and listened to, as well as perform, metalcore music. I’m an orange pegasus stallion with a red King V guitar with three music notes on my flank. I have black hair, wear cuffs around my ankles, and have piercings: snake bites, size 00 gauges on my ears, and sets of three cartilage studs on both ears, as well as a tongue piercing.
Being age 19, on some days I will smoke like a freaking chimney, and on other days only smoke a cigarette or two. I’ve been known to shoplift once or twice and have had a couple drinks at the occasional party, but other than that, I’m not that big a troublemaker.
Every Saturday, I practice with my band, Happiness Poisoning, as the lead singer and guitarist. Though the name sounds morbid, don’t be fooled: our music consists of the joys and despairs of love, as well as consequences that come with it.
This Saturday, though, the band had to cancel our practice. The drummer had a family emergency in Manehattan, the bassist was sick, and the clean vocalist as well as the rhythm guitarist, brothers, were on vacation for another two weeks. So I decided to actually see what this town, Ponyville, had to offer, since I never leave my house often.
I made my way out the door and looked around outside. A nice, warm day like this is something I look forward to. I decided to head to Sugarcube Corner with the small purse of bits I put in my satchel. As I turned the corner from my yard, I bumped into somepony.
“Hey, watch where you-” I cut myself off as the awesome beauty of the pony before me caught my attention. She was a white unicorn mare, and was wearing purple sunglasses and headphones with the name “Vinyl Scratch” carved into them, and she had a music note as her cutie mark, looking very similar to the ones on my own.
“Oh, sorry. My bad,” She said, a little loud, probably due to her music. As she walked off, I couldn’t help but watch, making the stupidest gawk face in my life. I realized I was staring and quickly shook it off, proceeding to Sugarcube Corner.
As soon as I arrived, I was practically whacked in the face with the smell of pies and cakes, and not because the party-famous Pinkie Pie tripped with a handful of them, all going straight into my snout and mane.
“Oh, my gosh, I’m so sorry sir! Are you all-AH!” She had been cleaning off my face while she was talking and stopped when she could see my eyes, surrounded by eyeliner, which seemed to scare her a bit. I let off a small glare that she seemed to notice, as she gave a small embarrassed, and slightly frightened, smile.
“I really am sorry, Jubilee,” She said, and walked away. I huffed and reached for a few napkins, but before I could grab any, a different hoof started wiping the mess away.
“Here, let me help you with that,” A female voice said. As the mare wiped the filling away from my eyes, I saw a light blue pegasus with a rainbow mane, and I could tell it was none other than my old flight school mate, Rainbow Dash. I remember she was the fastest pegasus I knew. We were good friends all the while she was there, but after she dropped out, I only saw her a few times, and was never in a position to strike up a conversation.
She had developed into a much more mature looking mare, as my eyes DEFINITELY couldn’t ignore. She had a large smile on her face as she was cleaning mine, and I would’ve helped, only I was too surprised to see her to even insist.
“R-Rainbow Dash,” I asked. “Is that you?” She let out a giggle at that.
“Of course it’s me, Jubilee. I saw Pinkie spill those desserts on somepony, and when I realized it was you, I just HAD to help.” She sounded very sincere with those words. “I mean, I haven’t seen you in years! We need to catch up.”
Once I was clean, we sat down at a table and looked at our menus. This was only my second time there, so I didn’t know what to choose. But knowing Rainbow’s sweet tooth, I figured she came here almost any chance she got.
“So, do you recommend anything,” I asked. I could immediately see her eyes light up.
“Oh, my God, yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes! Definitely try the Chimicherrychanga. It’s one of Pinkie Pie’s own creations.”
“Well what is it?” I was enjoying her enthusiasm for desserts.
“It’s a bunch of sweet Marino cherries wrapped in a tortilla and deep fried, covered in any combination of powdered sugar, chocolate or caramel syrup, or French Vanilla ice cream, and you can also have it dipped in chocolate if you want.” Instantly I had decided what I would like to eat.
“I think I’ll have that, then,” I said. She nodded her head in agreement and placed the order. A few minutes passed and Pinkie Pie came to our table and gave us our food, mine with an apology note written in cream on the top. It said
“Dear Jubilee,
I’m sorry for spilling pies on you and yelling in your face. As an apology, there’s something special added to yours.
~Pinkie Pie”
Slightly scared, I took off a piece of the food and ate it. Immediately, my face lit up, as it was filled with lemon filling, like the kind you would find in donuts. I wolfed down the entire thing in less than a minute, all under the gaze of a shocked Rainbow Dash. She seemed even more surprised when I was done and my face was entirely clean. We sat there and caught up on each other’s lives while she finished her chimicherrychanga. Unlike me, she finished with a huge mess all over her snout, and it was my turn to clean her. I made a big joke of it by pushing my hand into her face.
“That hurts, stop it,” she laughed, trying to snatch the napkins away from me. “I can do it myself, stop!” She smacked my hand away and finished cleaning herself. We made plans to hang out sometime and left, her heading one way, me heading the other. The strange thing was, when it seemed like we were only there for about 30 minutes, it had actually been about 4 hours, which meant it was 5:00 and getting dark. I decided to head home.
On the way to my house, a pegasus flew into me, knocking me about 5 feet one way, and themselves 5 feet the other way. I got up and looked over at who it was. It was a gray female with blonde hair and a bubble cutie mark. I knew her as Ditzy Doo, but most called her Derpy, and she was perfectly fine with that. I helped her up right away, knowing it wasn’t at all her fault: she was naturally extremely clumsy.
“Oh, God, Derpy! Are you alright?” I helped her up quickly, but carefully.
“Yeah, I’m fine…” She looked at me right in the eye, then looked away blushing. “Sorry for running into you like that,” she said, obviously in slight pain. I looked at her wing and noticed that it was bent unnaturally, probably broken.
“Derpy, your wing is broken! Come on, we need to get you to the emergency room.” I tried not to put any pressure on her wing as I helped her there. She winced in pain a couple times, but seemed okay.
As we got to the hospital, since it was almost completely empty, we checked her in and got sent to a room immediately. The doctor walked in and took some notes as I explained what happened. After maybe 20 minutes of us just sitting there, the doctor finally came back in and got Derpy patched up.
We walked out of the hospital and I flagged down a carriage to take her home. I gave her 15 Bits for the fare and said goodbye, then I made my way home.
I walked into the house, threw my satchel onto my couch, and went straight to bed, playing the events of the day back in my head. I decided that this was a fun thing to do. “I really need to get out more,” I said to myself as I dozed off.
